state of california. >> u.s. attorney general is ex pecksed to speak in sacramento about the administration suing california over sanctuary state policies. amy hollyfield is live in sacramento this morning. amy? >> reporter: hi, natasha. state leaders do not seem worried about this lawsuit saying bring it on. they're ready to fight the trump administration. attorney general jeff sessions will be here in sacramento to announce this aggressive move as the federal government tries to force sanctuary cities to cooperate with immigration authorities. the lawsuit challenges three laws on the california books that the trump administration says interferes with immigration enforcement. the lawsuit asks that those laws be overturned. the senator who helped write the laws says the state will put up a fight. >> i think it's highly disturbing that the federal government is going to waste taxpayer dollars to sue a state, a golden state like ours, the state of california, because we

turning himself in to police on domestic violence charges. abc 7 news was at the san francisco county jail when smith left and quickly hopped into a waiting scar. he was booked on misdemeanor domestic violence and other charges. he was wanted since saturday when he allegedly assaulted his fiance. she called the police to report the incident after smith left. here's how the police radio dispatcher described what happened. >> threw her around the room. bit her on the wrist. climbed out the window. >> the latest in a series of run ins with the law for smith. the 49ers released him in 2015 after a string of arrests and serving a one-year suspension from the nfl for a substance abuse violation. the raiders released him on monday. happening today, a rally for a higher teacher salary, smaller class sizes and better classroom safety. hundreds much educators from pittsburg unified school district plan to march outside of district offices at 3:30 today. the education association says

21st and capp streets. matt keller is live in the mission district this morning. matt? >> reporter: good morning, reggie. stran police still have the crime scene tape up blocking it off on 21st street, you can see that the crime scene unit is. behind that, there's a spotlight on the scene of this officer involved shooting while they continue their investigation this morning. a neighbor told us what he heard and saw last night. >> i've heard gunshots before in the neighborhood. i can't imagine it was less than 20. it was like it lasted for i while and it was -- then i came out to see what was going on. >> this is what he saw at about 10:45 last night. a huge police presence. officers were flagged down in their patrol cars by two armed robbery victims. they told officers the suspects were driving a black honda civic. the officers spotted that car on capp street between 21st and 22nd streets and ordered the suspects out of the car.

verizon is turning to a higher power to boost wireless coverage in santa rosa. this according to the press democrat. verizon wants to install antennas inside a 62-foot steeple at a community baptist church on sonoma avenue. the public can chime in on that plan tonight at 6:00. there's going to be a meeting held at the community engagement office on first street across the street from city hall. verizon successfully built a steeple for another church earlier this year. the pastor said there were no complaints from neighbors. adult movie star stormy daniels is suing president trump. her real name is stephanie clifford. she says she was paid to keep quiet about an affair with trump. she said her p agreement is void because trump never signed it. president trump denied the affair. a bilk proposed in the state assembly could raise billions of dollars for public schools. it would at a 17% tax to carried interest.

the first chance of rain arrives this evening. until then, you can see the thickest clouds coming in. thinner clouds during the afternoon hours. grab the sunglasses. let's roll into it. here we are at 5:00 this evening. you can see the cloud cover out there in gray. the rain in the green still offshore. by 7:00, it's in the north bay. so if you're one of our later commuters, you may get a little bit of slickness there. 4:00 in the morning, just about all of us wet except for the south bay and parts of our inland east bay neighborhoods. you'll get that by the time we get to 9:00. most of the showers are scattered and around the south bay and down into the monterey bay. heading into the evening hours and through friday, the best chance is going to be down there. it's going to move up into the bay and the east bay. friday, we'll have a couple of chances in the north bay for scattered showers. nothing to change any plans over. but it's just possible you may get caught under one of those for a while. look at this. at 7:00, tonight, santa rosa northward.

dead. justice for kate steinle is in the hand of the u.s. court of appeals. attorneys for san francisco want the court to uphold a judge's decision to throw out a lawsuit against the city and the former sheriff. steinle's parents filed the suit saying he was negligent when he released zarate. zarate later shot steinle. he was acquitted of murder and manslaughter in november. his attorneys argued it was an accidental shooting. a registered sex offender under arrest accused of indecent exposure. a girl was walking down the street around 6:00 monday night when she saw this man. he was touching himself and ex potioning himself. responding p found him and he was detained. the city council accepted a $5.4 million grant from the state department of social services to help families who lost their homes.

more than a year after the flood, 42 people are still living in temporary housing. the grant money will pay for their housing assistance and what is left will go towards helping neighborhoods prevent future disasters. new details on this. do you remember the scary sight last month on a flight out of sfo? video shows the engine on the plane missing the front covering. the ntsb now says several fan blades in the engine broke and the engine p parts flew off. the pilots received warnings of an engine compressor stall and managed to shut down the engine. the plane made a safe emergency landing. none of the 373 people on board were hurt. the san francisco board of supervisors wants to charge uber and lyft to use city streets. the examiner reports the board unanimously approved the legislation proposed by aaron peskin. it urges state lawmakers to introduce legislation enabling the city to charge impact fees to ride sharing companies. the resolution says companies like uber and lyft reduce public

jose, 280 and 17, it is cloudy this morning. partly sunny and comfy today on my accuweather highlight. showers tomorrow and friday. there's a slight chance this weekend, a better chance of significant rain next week. here we are at 5:00 in the evening. let's jump into this. you can see showers, some moderate showers possible. yellows. starting to move up into lake county and the northwest corner of sonoma county. down to santa rosa. the rest of ugs dry in the commute. some of the green is starting to show up in other neighborhoods, except for the south bay and inland east bay neighborhoods. by 9:00, the drizzle and the showers start to lighten up a little bit. you can see during the day, there's isolated showers out there up until 4:00. and then that will continue through 7:00. once we get past 7:00, we'll look to the south bay and around lake county for possible rain during the overnight hours. into, look at that, friday morning, the commute may be a

little difficult south of the bay bridge. then as we head into friday afternoon, the north bay and again the south bay have the best chance of receiving some of these showers. rainfall amounts are only going to be a couple hundredths of an inch in the south bay. in the east bay to tenth of an inch around the bay to quarter to a third of an inch in the north bay. many chances of rain, it's just not a lot of rain. the day will be dry saturday. it's the evening through sunday morning that will be wet. set those clocks forward and enjoy that hour next evening of sunlight. that extra hour. alexis? >> thanks, mike. finally, good news. we did just confirm with chp that our crash we never could see on our traffic cameras, westbound 80 within the bay bridge toll plaza has cleared. all lanes back open there. however, we possibly have a new problem around maritime westbound 80. within that backup. but it did sound like that one would clear fairly quickly. 3d check at that backup of traffic coming in from 580, 80 and 880 and yes, it is congested, but overall, it's not

terrible. especially considering we had a crash there for 45 minutes. quick check here of the san mateo bridge westbound 92. you can seeshoulder. chp is helping a digs abled vehicle but not blocking any lanes. california could soon be drinking recycled water. state water officials proposing a new program to create what they're calling a drought-proof source of drinking water. treatment plants would be allowed to pump highly treated wastewater into our public reservoirs. that has never happened before. the water would then go through more treatment to make sure it's safe. the regulations have to be approved by two state agencies before water recycling can begin. the goal is to have it up and running by the end of the year. a judge ruled that county election officials must give voters a chance to verify signatures before rejecting signatures on mailed ballots. the judge says an existing law that allowed county election managers to do so if the
