>> and both pennsylvania and new jersey have declared states of emergency. dozens of schools are closed up and down the east coast. thousands of flights have been cancelled or delayed. our team is spread out across the region. rob is starting off. he's right here in times square. good morning, rob. >> good morning here we go >> good morning, here we go again, robin, nor'easter will track closer to the coastline, already brought blizzard conditions to the midwest, and now the coastal low is kicking up. the mix is going to expand through the afternoon. bullet points, the big cities, philadelphia, rain will mix in there for 3 to 6-inch total. new york city, mix of rain and snow and sleet, 5 to 10 inches. we already had this storm come through last week with damage and linsey davis is live for us this morning in new rochelle.

>> reporter: good morning to you, rob. what a mangled mess from the storm last friday. tangled and twisted power lines here. but the homeowners here, they will tell you they're lucky. take a look at why. this massive tree, while it did hit their car it narrowly avoided hitting their house. still they're without power. they're worried about this second nor'easter in less than a week. this morning, with temperatures falling fast, snow is piling up in the northeast. the powder mixing with sleet, creating a dangerous morning commute for millions. the storm is strengthening as it heads up the i-95 corridor. coastal areas like this seawall in marshfield, massachusetts,m are already seeing giant waves, now the area is preparing to get slammed with 40 to 60 mile-per-hour winds as well as 10 to 15-foot waves. reminiscent of last weekend's deadly nor'easter. nearly one week after that storm, thousands are still struggling to live without basic resources.

workers scramble to clear street littlered with debris and downed power lines. more than 100,000 still remain in the dark. >> it's freezing in my house. it's 45 in there. >> reporter: viewers gave us a glimpse of what life has been like without power and hot water. >> as you can see, we have no lights and no running hot water. we haven't been able to shower since friday. >> this is now our home and our office, which is the holiday inn. >> just to show you i had to throw out all my food. it's very disheartening. >> reporter: residents are praying that scenes like these will not be repeated today. utility crews are busy at work on surrounding streets. they say they won't stop working until the wind hits 30 miles an hour. at that point they say it's just far too dangerous for them to remain up in the buckets. at this point, the temperature is still above freezing, so the snow is not sticking to the ground. robin. >> linsey, thank you. but it is a messy commute

for millions this morning. let's take a live look at the roads in pennsylvania right now. abc's gio benitez is there in allentown. they're preparing to battle the snow. good morning. >> reporter: that's right, george, good morning. listen, that heavy snow just beginning to fall here. we're getting those thick snowflakes right now. take a look at this, because this is all about that salt. the trucks will come in here, grab the salt and start putting it on those roads. even if pennsylvania they have turned garbage trucks into snowplows so they're really trying to get ready for that morning commute, get ready and make it a lot easier for people. you know, a lot of these interstates and highways have already started limiting traffic later today and we'll have a commercial travel ban in place for parts of pennsylvania, george. >> okay, i know my kids were excited when they got the word last night no school here, up and down the east coast. >> that's right, new jersey, delaware, pennsylvania, we're talking about 550 schools that have already cancelled classes. philly is the largest school district. that school district alone has

130,000 students that won't be going to school today, george. >> thank you, gio. michael. >> thank you, george. let's move up to massachusetts, where they're still recovering from last week's damaging floods. abc's eva pilgrim is in duxbury. eva, you're bracing for high winds and even more coastal flooding. >> reporter: that's right, michael. it's round three for this area, which has been hit hard by these nor'easters. and you can see -- look at this, this flooding is still here from the last storm. we are in duxbury this morning where they are now facing a crisis as this new nor'easter is set to slam these already-battered seawalls. take a look at this drone video that we have here. you can see those angry waves crashing in, that's the major problem here, where the seawall has actually been breached. teams working through the night to shore it up, a temporary fix but necessary with this incoming storm. contractors, town workers, and even regular private citizens all pitching in, working through

the night to get this done. they did their best but now they will have to wait and see. guys, this water you see right here will be sitting here for a while. the earliest it will be pumped out is friday, michael. >> eva, unfortunately, for some of these homeowners, this is the third time this winter that they've been flooded. >> reporter: that's right, michael. i've spoken to some of those homeowners. i was here for that first nor'easter. they say they still have water in their basements, on their streets. there's no power for some of their neighbors. they're really hoping that with this storm, mother nature cuts them a little bit of a break. michael. >> all right, thank you. help thy neighbor, eva. ro rockin. >> neighbor helping neighbor. as you can imagine, thousands of flights have been cancelled or delayed because of the storms. the ripple effects are being felt all across the country. abc's kayna whitworth is at lga here in new york with more. good morning. >> reporter: it's slow going out here at laguardia as they brace

for their second nor'easter here in a week. now, we don't want a repeat of what happened last week when the winds blew off the roof of that american airlines hangar. that day they were seeing wind gusts of about 60 miles per hour. today, they're expecting gusts of about 40 miles an hour, still a little bit less. but, it has just now started snowing out here in queens. they have already cancelled more than 400 flights here at laguardia and other airports around new york are being hard hit as well. 540 flights cancelled in newark. when we look at our big board here, the departure board behind us, you can see just a whole lot of red. nearly 2,000 flights have been cancelled nationwide. that is nearly ten times more cancellations than we saw yesterday. that's likely to have a ripple effect so we will probably see a lot more cancellations and delays throughout the day today. but i guess, robin, a little bit

of good news here is that most major airlines say they'll waive all of those change fees. that's something that people can go home with today. >> that's true. all right, kayna, thank you. and let's go back to rob, where is this storm going to be heading next? >> here in new york, nothing accumulating yet. it's pretty wet, rain mixing in with that snow. let's time it out. the coastal low is developing and we'll be intensifying and riding up the delmarva throughout the morning and afterhours with that snow intensifying. the worst weather from philly to new haven will be about from noontime to dinnertime. coastal flooding there, some land flooding in places like rhode island and cape cod, mostly a rain event there. 6 to 12 along i-95. the rain/snow line all day long.

with that wet heavy snow on tree limbs and wind gusting over 40 miles an hour, you're looking at the potential for power outages. we'll be monitoring that throughout the day. >> a good day to go home and take a nap, if you can. to the white house right now and another major departure from president trump's team. trump's chief economic adviser gary cohn is resigning, the sixth top official this year. we've never seen turnover like this so early in a presidency. triple president obama, double president reagan's. our senior white house correspondent cecilia vega has the latest. this announcement is already rattling financial markets. >> reporter: it certainly is. as you say, more turnover in this white house than any other administration in recent history. president trump says he likes the conflict. he likes to watch two sides fight it out. that's how he makes his decisions. in this case, gary cohn fought it out, he lost and now he's out. this morning, another top aide in the trump administration out, chief economic adviser gary cohn resigning.

the circle of west wing loyalists shrinking by the day. the news came just hours after president trump declared his white house chaos-free. >> i read, oh, gee, maybe people don't want to work for trump. believe me, everybody wants to work in the white house. they all want a piece of that oval office. they all want a piece of that west wing. >> reporter: the president insists there is no turmoil. >> i like conflict. i like having two people with two different point of views. i certainly have that. then i make a decision. >> reporter: in a statement, president trump called cohn a rare talent. saying, he did a superb job in driving the agenda and unleashing the american economy once again. cohn returning the niceties, saying it has been an honor to serve my country and enact pro-growth economic policies to benefit the american people, in particular the passage of historic tax reform. but behind the scenes, the two men clashed. cohn strongly opposed the

president's plan to slap tariffs on steel and aluminum imports. the president saying trade wars are a good thing. cohn adamantly disagreed. he nearly resigned last summer. jut raged by the president's response to the violent clashes involving white nationalists in charlottesville. >> i think there's blame on both sides. you had some very bad people in that group. but you also had people that were very fine people on both sides. >> reporter: cohn is now the sixth high-profile white house aide to resign this year and the president hinted there are more departures to come. >> there will be people -- i'm not going to be specific -- but there will be people that change, they always change. >> reporter: now the president refused to answer when directly asked if his attorney general jeff sessions might be the next to go. the white house is saying gary cohn will stay on the job for another few weeks, president saying, this is a job that many people want. >> he says he'll make a wise

choice and the markets watching that as well, cecilia. >> they are, especially all eyes here at home to see how wall street plays out today with cohn gone. cohn was viewed as a stabilizing force here in the west wing. let's talk about replacements. names that are being kicked around to replace cohn, peter navarro, a democrat, and larry kudlow, a conservative commentator and trump campaign adviser. they both have competing views on trade, george. >> very different from cohn as well. meantime, cecilia, the primary elections in texas saw a surge in democratic turnout, any response from the white house? >> so far, no. we might hear something that president trump, given all the candidates in republican primaries he picked won their primaries to avoid a runoff. >> cecilia vega, thank you very much. >> we have heard from the president about this, the possible breakthrough in the standoff with north korea. the president spontding to south korea's claim that the north is prepared to negotiate with the u.s. and our chief global affairs correspondent, martha raddatz, is right here in the studio with

us and has the latest. >> reporter: this is breakthrough. the north koreans say they'll suspend those nuclear tests, they'll suspend those missile tests if they begin talks. and what the u.s. had said, what donald trump had said, is you have to talk about denuclearization. north korea has agreed to this. there is guarded optimism but this is what president trump said. >> i think that their statement and the statements coming out of south korea and north korea have been very positive. that would be a great thing for the world. we'll see how it all comes about. >> and we have no idea when that will happen. but it looks like it might happen. they'll start talking about it. >> does the president deserve some credit here? >> i think he deserves some credit here. some people might call it the madman theory that kim jong-un didn't know what donald trump would do. there have been sanctions, there have been threats. we'll see what happens. >> again, promising. >> he seems to be itching for that meeting. thank you, martha.

we move on now to some new legal trouble for president trump. stormy daniels is now filing a lawsuit against the president, arguing that the nondisclosure agreement she signed right before the 2016 election is not valid. our chief national correspondent tom llamas has the story. >> reporter: with this lawsuit, the nondisclosure agreement has now been made public, using aliases it lays out the agreement between stormy daniels and president trump. that according to the complaint. now daniels said it's null and void which could mean she's free to tell her story. this morning, president trump and his personal legal team have a new problem with an old foe. stormy daniels. the adult entertainment star filed this civil lawsuit in los angeles superior court, arguing a nondisclosure agreement she signed was not binding because it was missing something essential, president trump's signature. daniels claims in their agreement they used aliases,

saying president trump was referred to as david dennison and she was peggy peterson. in her lawsuit, a copy of the agreement shows a blank space where she says mr. trump would have signed. this lawsuit is also the first time that daniels has admitted publicly to signing a nondisclosure agreement. >> do you have a nondisclosure agreement? >> do i? >> you can't say whether or not you have one. if you didn't have a nondisclosure agreement you most certainly could say i don't have a nondisclosure agreement, yes? >> you're so smart, jimmy. >> reporter: before the agreement daniels told her story to "in touch" magazine back in 2011. she said she met the president in 2006 at a golf tournament, snapping this photo she later posted on her myspace page. she told the magazine that trump, then a reality star, invited her to his hotel suite where they had sex. afterwards she said trump told her i'm going to call you, i'm going to call you, i have to see you again.

you're amazing. we have to get you on the apprentice. in the magazine interview, daniels also claiming her affair with trump lasted about a year. when trump was a newlywed. >> he had been married to melania a little over a year. his son barron had been born three or four months prior to that. >> reporter: according to her lawsuit, the so-called agreement was finalized 11 days before the election and just three weeks ago the president's longtime personal attorney, michael cohn, admitted to paying $130,000 of his own money to daniels whose real name is stephanie clifford. but cohen said in a statement, neither the trump organization nor the trump campaign was a party to the transaction with ms. clifford and neither reimbursed me for the payment either directly or indirectly. legal experts are mixed on whether daniels has a case. cohn nor the white house has commented yet on this new

ex-russian spy and his daughter who collapsed moments later in the english town of salsbury. >> on the floor, her eyes were wide open and the man went stiff, his arms stopped moving. >> reporter: the man is sergei skripal, convicted in 2004 in moscow of spying for britain. he and his daughter yulia are both now fighting for their lives. british authorities suspect some kind of poisoning. >> our focus is on trying to establish what has caused these people to become critically ill. >> reporter: another ominous development, police officers and others at the scene were hospitalized after suffering rashes, wheezing and vomiting, the incident similar to a killing of a russian dissident in 2006. russian president vladimir putin probably approved the murder. this chilling video clip from 2010 has emerged when skripal and others were released in a

♪ next chapter ♪ . welcome back. we continue our coverage of the big nor'easter in the northeast. i want to show you a live shot of what's happening right now in asbury park in new jersey there. cameras shaking. the waves are building. that's just one aspects of this storm. another aspect, the precip, as this low develops off the jersey shore, pretty much the i-95 corridor is kind of your rain/snow line where the mix, the snow is going to be heaviest. and where the forecast is trickiest. go farther inland the snow will be piling up in a hurry, in some cases over a foot.

for the road conditions and what they're doing to prep, we go live now to gio benitez who is in allentown, pennsylvania. gio. >> reporter: hey rob, more than a foot of snow expected here in allentown, pennsylvania. you can see that snow here is starting to fall heavy. you can see the salt trucks loading up with salt because they're just trying to keep these roads clear. they're trying to keep people off these roads, rob. >> if you don't have to go out, don't do it. these are shots from yesterday and the day before. all week really the waves have been pounding the massachusetts coastline which sustained damage to seawalls. they're a little exposed. there are flood warnings from maryland to maine and flash flood warnings posted for parts of rhode island and parts of eastern massachusetts where the rain is going to be heaviest. the waves, 15, 20 feet here. coastal flooding this morning. obviously the waves will be pounding that area and then the snows will be winding down really not until after tonight

this patch of dirt i'm standing on was actually under water just a short time ago. this fire hydrant almost covered by this water that's here and further down the street you can see that mark that's on the basement of that home there, that shows kind of how high this water was at some point. and this is all here as they get ready for this new nor'easter that's heading their way. take a look at this drone video. you can see the waves crashing on the coast. this shoreline has been batted by storms this season and now they're getting ready and seawalls in this area have been battered. the seawall in duxbury was breached. they can keep as much of this water out. out of the neighborhoods. to minimize the damage, so people have a chance to get in and begin the cleanup, george. >> okay, eva, thanks very much. and schools all over the

northeast are closed and thousands are still without power from the last nor'easter that moved through less than a week ago. our linsey davis is in westchester, new york, where they're still cleaning up as the new snow moves in. good morning, linsey. >> good morning, michael. still cleaning up and what a mess it is to clean up. your heart goes out to these homeowners, this particular family for example, just look at the mess that remains. you have these downed power lines, tree limbs and this massive tree that fell, crashed the front of their car, but did narrowly avoid hitting their house. these houses right here still without power. they have a generator going to keep the sump pump on. because water is still filling the basement. they haven't had a chance to get the insurance company to come out and look from the last storm. they're worried about that storm's damage and what's coming ahead potentially. however, the good news, you still have these utility crews tirelessly working 16-hour shifts, some crews from as far

as michigan say they will continue to work through this storm unless the winds get above 30 miles per hour. at that point they have to come down from the buckets because it's simply too dangerous. >> thank you, linsey. back-to-back storms. >> thank goodness for those power crews, they work around the clock. the storm is also leading to whiteout conditions, possible flooding. let's check back in rob. >> thankfully we won't see 2 feet of snow in new york city here. light rain mixing with snow right now. the coastal low will be intensifying as we go through the day. the snows will intensify as well from philadelphia to new york. heaviest it will be from 10 to 6:00 at night. boston, you'll see a mix of rain and snow and windy conditions, 60-plus miles an hour along the coastline. here you go, as far as the snowfall, tricky along i-95, anywhere from 3 to 12 inches depending on where you are. 12 to 24 inches, 2 feet of snow, mostly inland and mostly in the

please welcome tomi. how did this happen? 24 years old, i love the reaction you posted when you got your first book and even stephen king reached out to you. >> he actually made me -- when i saw that i was so excited. my body started overreacting. by an hour later i was feeling sick. i need to sit down or i'm going to go into a coma. i was so excited. this isn't real. i can't get sick right now. i had to, okay, okay, stephen king knows your name. stephen king watched you cry. okay. >> all of that. >> yeah. >> tell people about this, this really celebrates your heritage and it's taking place in a fictional world. >> the book is called "children of blood and bone." it's basically black panther with magic. yeah. >> wakanda forever. >> it follows a girl named zelie, she's in a fight to bring magic back to her people. the world is an an lose west africa society. the cities are named after

nigerian cities. you know, they're riding giant lions through the jungle. it's this epic adventure. we have, like lord of the rings and harry potter and stories we love, usually in the same setting. this time we'll get to see, like the same adventures that we love but in completely different settings and new magic and new characters. i'm excited. it's fun having something in your head for so long and having the world view it. the first time someone said my character's name out loud, i was like, who do you told about that? where did you find out? with my first book, rightfully shouldn't have come out. it didn't get to publishers. i couldn't get an agent with that one. even with this book, some people still told me no.

but a lot of really great people said yes to this one and now we're on "good morning america," which is crazy. >> you got a lot of good people around you. your mother, your father, your brother's here. she signed a seven-figure deal for the book and also already -- it's going to be made into a franchise of movies. your brother believed in you. >> he did. >> tobi, what was about your sister that you knew? >> i think that she never lost that magic that i think that we're all born with but, as we get older we tend to lose that imagination, that things we can think, anything's possible. anything can happen. but the world is so real and it gets to us that we start to lose it. but she never lost it, she always had it. it thrives within her. i'm so proud of her for bringing it to the world. >> and mom and dad, you're just beaming with pride. dad, i heard you read the book a dozen times?

>> 16 times. >> 16, but who's countering. >> i confess, 16 times. >> mom, what are your emotions? >> just so excited for my baby. it's been a long journey. went through some struggles with everything going on in the world. she said i'm going to do something about it. i'm going to write a book that's going to change the world and i'm so excited for what she's about to embark on. >> so, is it everything that you thought this moment would be? >> all of it has been beyond my wildest imagination -- times where i was like, okay, if you work really hard like in ten years something like this could happen. after five years, maybe a movie. i knew it was a little bit possible. i never thought it would be like this. the book came out yesterday, on twitter this morning, people are like, how could you? i was like, you read 545 pages on a school day. people have the work. how did you get through it that fast? so it's been this really wild
