capital of california declaring federal law is the law of the land. protesters were here to let him know his message was not welcomed. u.s. attorney general jeff sessions said today he is ready to fight the state of california and bring an end to the state's pro-immigrant sanctuary laws. >> california absolutely appears to me is using every power it has, powers it doesn't have to frustrate federal law enforcement. you can be sure i'll use every power i have to stop that. >> reporter: saying politicians in california are putting law enforcement officers in danger, just to score political point ps, and specifically, called out oakland mayor who warned the community last weekend an i.c.e. raid was coming. >> here's my message to the mayor, how dare you, how dare you needlessly endanger the laws of our law enforcement officers to promote a radical open

borders agenda. >> reporter: announcing this at the peace officers association meeting in san diego announcing the federal government is suing the state. the officers here listened quietly, but the association did not take a stance on the issue. >> it's not our role to endorse what the attorney general says. i think the attorney general has has viewpoints that represent the interest of the federal government. >> reporter: strong opinions were heard outside the hotel. protesters were outraged that the state is being sued, and that the attorney general came here to announce it. >> well, i think it's just a bully tactic, you know, definitely not surprised, but we're not going to stand with the speaker and stand here and let it happen. >> reporter: the protest has moved on, they are no longer here at the hotel. it appeared peaceful. we did not see any problems. reporting live in sacramento, abc 7 news. >> thank you, amy, and the san

francisco mayor tweeted this statement immediately after the speech. attorney general jeff sessions, we have a simple message, your threats will not change who we are, our mission, or our values. our #sanctuarycities make everyone safer. >> the people of california will not be bowed by the trump administrati administration. we'll fight the sham lawsuit and attacks on the immigrant communities. california attorney general and governor brown are also responding this morning. abc news news reporter laura anthony continues team coverage at the capital. >> reporter: the press conference here at the capital kicked off 45 minutes after the attorney general spoke here in sacramento at another location. he said sessions has basically initiated, as he said, a reign

of terror on california. governor brown went on to point out what he said are three laws that sessions told one, that california has open borders, two, that the state protects criminals, and, three, the state wants to secede. brown called session's remarks unprecedented, extremely aggressive, and in the view of the governor and attorney general, totally unnecessary. >> this is a time to build bridges, not walls, to pull americans together, not set us apart, and like so many in the trump administration, this attorney general has no regard for the truth. what he said today is not true. it is a lie. >> the trump administration has just failed utterly to help us fix a very broken immigration system, and this is what it comes down to, these actions that take us nowhere. >> reporter: governor brown talked about the contributions

wherever you are or where you're going. abc 7 news obtained dramatic video the moments before, during, and after an officer-involved shooting in frsan francisco. the suspect died at the scene. matt keller is live in the news room with what led up to the deadly standoff, matt? >> reporter: after 10:30 last night, two people in the mission district in san francisco flagged down a patrol car saying they were the victims of an armed robbery. we want to warn you the video is disturbing to some. what happened next ended with the death of one of the suspects. a standoff with deadly stakes captured on cell phone video in san francisco. three armed robbery suspects pulled over in a black honda civic between 21st and 22nd streets at 10:45 tuesday night. two suspects in the car, one suspect in the open trunk.

>> they asked him to put his hands up. >> reporter: police on a loud speaker in spanish telling the suspect to show his hands. one shot fired. the officer tells the suspect to show us your other hand. we are going to shoot at you again, and then this. [ gunshots ] >> shots, fired, shots fired. shots fired. >> reporter: officers say the suspect died at the scene. >> after that, i just took cover because i didn't want to get shot by any bullets. >> reporter: driver and female suspect detained wanted for an armed robbery that took place a block away just minutes before the standoff. albert was shaken up, believing police gave the suspect a long time to get out of the trunk and turn himself in. >> they tried to deescalate the situation. i saw it. they tried to deescalate. i was hoping for a good ending, it just didn't. >> reporter: they will hold oo

me a meeting about the shooting within ten days. abc 7 news. san jose police are searching for the person or person who shot out business and auto windows with a bb gun. a dozen incidents reported between monday night and yesterday morning. they are spread out across town. they made a mess. this restaurant spent yesterday cleaning up. a new window needs to be installed, and business owners say it'll cost them thousands of dollars. >> this is bad. this is something that police should really take very serious because it is a lot of damage. makes you want to quit business and want to do something else. >> we'll try to pick ourselves up and keep continuing and taking care of business. that's what we're going to do, and hopefully everybody else will be able to do the same and take care of their businesses too. >> police don't know if the incidents are connected. they have not released any suspect information. education secretary devos visited stoneman douglas high

secretary visited the school. the studentins have returned to class. the secretary met with a small number of people and called it a sobering moment. >> i come committed on behalf of the administration to continue to work to find solutions so that no student and no parent ever has to go through what this community has had to endure. >> also defending the proposal to arm teachers, calling it a mischaracterization saying the concept is to have people who are experts in being able to defend and having a a lot of training to do so. this morning, senate minority leader schumer says president trump should back off the plan to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum saying the problem with the proposed 25% tariff on steel and 10% on aluminum is it could draw reciprocal sanctions on american-made goods. that, he fears, triggers a trade war. schumer said today that the

now your accuweather forecast with mike nicco. >> old man winter holding on. look at the nor'easter reaching back to eastern pennsylvania. this is nazereth, 77 miles north, north west of philadelphia. you see it's a wet snow. sticking to the trees there, how big the flakes are. sure like to see a storm like that hit the sierra. that's possible next week. this is live doppler 7. it's dialled in on new england and heading down to the mid-atlantic states.

there's snow in delaware headed to boston. there's going to be flight cancellations and delays. call ahead before heading that way. back at home, sun is breaking out, cloudy conditions waking up, and clouds thinned out a little bit, bring the sunglas s sunglasses, hopefully you'll have them for the afternoon hours. the highlight for the tonight, the rain comes in, and it becomes showers in nature tomorrow and friday, and there's a chance of rain over the weekend with a better storm coming in next week. as far as temperatures today, how about mid to upper 60s in most neighborhoods, 70s lingering down in the south bay again. here's how the daybreaks out. speaking of the south bay, this is is the new san jose tower cam on 87, just south of san jose international airport. nice, clean air in the south bay. so, temperatures are 57-63 with sunny spots out there. same thing at 4:00ings b, but temperatures are 50s at the coast, and upper 60s for the

rest of us. mild evening. mid to upper-50s, but in the north bay, the rain comes and slides south midnight to the low to mid-50s, and milder morning tomorrow than this morning. upper 40s, mid-50s, but with drizzle and showers from the cold front this low pressure center spins our way. now, when does it get here? glad you asked. i put a map together to show you. 5:00 in the evening, we are fine. by 7:00 to 9:00, you see the rain moving into the north by, and by 4:00, it's reaching all the neighborhoods other than the south bay and inland east bay where there's drizzle possible, but as we head from 4:00 to 9:00, you may get showers. now, from 9:00 on, you can see just a scattering of light showers out there, and even for the evening commute tomorrow, it looks fairly quiet, but overnight, another chunk of energy rolls through, pretty much south of the bay bridge up across the north bay, could be scattered showers, also for friday's morning commute with another chance of really

isolated showers friday afternoon to evening hours they are gone. here's how much rain we get and when it gets here. 7:00, you see only wet streets in the evening commute, and tomorrow morning, the rain, really not much out there, but by friday evening, we get that .15 to .50 .50 .50 .5 possible. during the day, it's dry, rain comes in the evening. set the clocks forward an hour, as we spring forward, daylight savings begins. sunday's nice and almost spring-like. monday, also, tuesday, the beginning of the next storm promising more rain rolling in, but for tuesday, it's also a 1 on the storm impact scale. >> rain around here, i'll take it any day over 10 feet of snow, right? >> it would be nice once, no? >> maybe one day. as long as i don't to do traffic that day. >> there you go. >> thanks, mike. more help for san jose

residents displaced by the flooding. the council accepted a grant from the state department of social services to help families who lost their homes more than a year after the flood, 42 people still live in temporary housing. the grant money pays for their housing assistance. what's left goes towards helping neighborhood prevent future disasters. happening today, teachers plan to rally for change. hundreds of educators from pittsburgh unified school district plan to march outside district offices at 3:30 this afternoon. the pittsburgh education association says it's fed up with negotiations with the school district. teachers want high pay, higher pay, smaller class sizes, and increased safety in the classrooms. turning to a higher power to boost wireless coverage in santa rosa according to the "press democrat" saying verizon wants to install antennas in a

62-footal steeple. there's a meeting at the community engagement office on 1st street. verizon successfully built a steeple for west view christian church this year, and the pastor said there's been no complaints from neighbors. the board of supervisorsments to charge uber and lyft for using city streets. the board unanimously approved the resolution. it urges state lawmakers to introduce legislation enabling the city to charge impact fees on ride sharing companies. the resolution says companies like uber and lyft reduce public ridership and revenue while causing congestion and collisions. coca-cola with a twist, it may have customers buz it's michelle's 40th birthday. >> welcome to your mid life
