so this surveillance video of a woman refusing to give up her purse to a robber inside a convenience store south of houston. police say the suspect did manage to grab $400 and bolt out of the store. but that doesn't end there. that woman followed him to his car, tries to open the passenger side door, then pounds her fist on his car as he drives away. police are now searching for that suspect. >> wow. >> the video outside. >> she did not want to let him go. >> i would not do that. >> i don't think that's what

police advise in a situation like this. >> it ends up working out in the end but no. and investigating refrigerator malfunction that may have damaged frozen eggs and embryos. >> university hospitals fertility clinic says, over the weekend, the temperature in one part of the liquid nitrogen storage tank was higher than limits. the incident could have damaged more than 2100 frozen eggs and embryos. up to 600 families may have been impacted by this. what started as a dream vacation for hundreds of fun seekers nearly ended in tragedy. >> the norwegian cruise ship was back to port canaveral, florida. that's when witnesses say a woman who may have been sitting on a railing and may have been taking a selfie lost her balance. >> so the ship's crew launched into action, lowering the rescue boats and calling others for help. one witness says the woman did her best to hang on to the balcony but she eventually fell some 15 stories into the ocean.

>> she was trapped on the other side of this very strong plexiglass. some big muscle guys were trying to kick the plexiglass in. the guys were super strong. they could not break the plastic, unfortunately. she said i can't hang on any longer and plunged about 100 feet to the ocean. >> so the whole thing took about an hour, but the crew was finally able to pull her from the water. the captain announced to the boat she was okay. of course the other passengers are relieved to hear that. and we'll have much more on her story coming up on "good morning america." i'm not sure if you have been on a cruise, when you are out in the middle of the water, especially in the middle of the night, you cannot see anything. i cannot think of anything more terrifying than falling in that water. >> in the day time hours in open ocean, it's absolutely frightening. former president obama is reportedly carving out a new career for himself. >> finally making something of himself. >> good for him. >> sources tell "the new york

in new york, i-287 south looked more like a parking lot. lawrence james sat out there for seven hours. >> about three hours there. traffic started moving and then it came to another standstill. >> reporter: in westchester county, residents and businesses still reeling from the last storm, still no power. >> what progress had been made has to the greatest extent been undone. >> reporter: north in port smith, new hampshire check out this transformer explosion. >> whoa. it's in front of us. >> reporter: in that same part of the country,i-95 was temporarily closed for two hours both directions after a power line came down across the highway. and in massachusetts, the town laid down 4500 tons to fortify where it was broken. >> the seawalls held. all that work paid off. >> reporter: the seawall remained intact, but several areas still flooded. there's a whole host of people

who have been without power since the last storm. now, reports coming out that a third nor'easter could roll through by early next week. forecasters saying it's too early to make that call. zachary quiche, nbc news. back to you. >> thank you. now to a different song in politics. president trump has agreed to do what no other american president has done before, meet with the north korean director. >> so the meeting is aimed at discussing him abandoning his nuclear program. the president trump says the sanctions will come until a deal is reached. the invitation came in the form of a message delivered at the white house by south korean officials. >> to meet president trump as soon as possible. president trump appreciated the meeting and said he would meet kim jong-un by may. >> this follows months of

escalating tension and name calling between the two. >> the president spoke to the japanese prime minister late last night. the white house says they agree to keep pressuring north korea until it takes what's called tangible and verifiable steps to get rid of its nuclear weapons. with we are in seoul, south korea where south koreans are weighing in. >> reporter: the mood here is cautiously optimistic and praising the two leaders, trump and kim for the courage and wisdom to make a hard decision. he noted president trump will be praised by all north and south koreans and the people of the world. the sudden turn of events is definitely a relief to many here who went through a roller coaster year, talking of war and p preemptive strikes. >> they traded some barbs there. word of the impending meeting took pentagon officials by surprise.

they're still working out where and when that meeting will take place. president trump says he's putting tariffs on steel and aluminum imports in response to what he calls an assault on our country. the president signed an order for the tariffs on steel and aluminum. 10% on aluminum won't take effect for two weeks. for now only canada and mexico are exempt. the president suggested that other countries might be spared before the tariffs are imposed. former trump campaign aide is set to appear before the grand jury in a russia investigation today. during a bizarre round of interviews this week, he said he would defy a subpoena by mueller. he's had a change of heart. he's not the only former trump campaign official now talking to investigators. pierre thomas has the details. >> reporter: donald trump's former campaign manager, cory lewandowski grilled by

congressional investigators. >> i answered every relevant question you could imagine. i spent 12 hours. there's no collusion, no cooperation, fact. >> reporter: the testimony comes amid new questions about whether the president has been asking witnesses interviewed by robert mueller what was asked. there's new scrutiny between the president and the former chief of staff, reince priebus after priebus was interviewed by mueller's team. sources say president trump asked if the special counsel's team was nice and whether they were -- whether they would try to set up a back channel with putin before the inauguration. at issue is the meeting. at the meeting, this man, eric prince, the former blackwater ceo and brother of betsy devos. he said their meeting was unplanned.

a chance encounter while he was on a business trip. met him down in the bar, prince said of his encounter. we talked for 30 minutes over a beer and that was it. he says the president-elect didn't know. >> was anybody on the trump team aware you were at this meeting? >> no one was aware i was even there. >> reporter: but the washington post is reporting that there was someone else there who now says it was not by chance and that it was specifically set up to discuss relations between the u.s. and russia. that person is george nader, a lebanese-american who the post says helped set up the meeting and who is now reportedly cooperating with robert mueller. >> we want to hear from nader. if the accounts about mr. nader are true, then eric prince lied to congress. that's a problem. >> reporter: we're expecting nunberg back in the news.

sales. meanwhile americans are slipping deeper into debt. a new study by wallet hub found u.s. consumers have surpassed $1 trillion in credit card debt. one analyst says the debt reflects american's confidence in the economy. a recent federal reserve survey showing nearly half americans don't have enough cash to cover a $400 emergency. just a month away from the tax deadline, the irs is trying to get rid of unclaimed tax refunds. that money belongs to about 1 million people who failed to file a tax return for 2014. the clock is ticking. the recipients have until april 17 to file and collect. there's no late penalty for receiving a refund. the irs estimated the median refund is about $847. >> i'll take that. and the uss carl vinson has docked in vietnam for the first time since the end of the vietnam war in 1975. >> so the ship and 5,000 sailers

>> we like the cantina music. >> cantina food and beverage. >> there is that, as well, both of which we don't have. >> okay, fine. >> good morning. >> i guess we'll get to the news instead. we do have breaking news. the high stakes meeting in the works between president trump and north korean leader, kim jong-un. after years of animosity, the president has accepted an invitation from kim to talk about denuclearization. but he's making it clear there are no plans to ease sanctions anytime soon. the president, himself, told reporters the announcement was coming. his first time ever in the briefing room, dropping in there. abc's jonathan karl is covering it all from the white house. >> reporter: the stunning announcement was made just outside the white house by a top official from south korea who came to washington with a message from the north. kim jong-un has pledged to stop nuclear and missile tests and wants to meet with president trump. >> his eagerness to meet president trump as soon as possible. >> reporter: a word from the white house.

president trump has accepted kim's invitation. two leaders have traded fierce threats and insults for months. >> they will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen. >> reporter: as kim ramped up his nuclear tests, president trump dialed up the rhetoric. >> little rocketman. >> reporter: with what looks like a breakthrough, a meeting to happen by may. and north korea set to understand u.s. troops will continue joint military exercises with the south. the announcement comes hours after president trump signed a big and controversial new tax on steel and aluminum. >> the american steel and aluminum industry has been ravaged by aggressive, foreign trade practices. >> reporter: tariffs, 25% on steel and 10% on aluminum will be imposed on all imported steel except from canada and mexico, which are exempt, but only for now. at a cabinet meeting earlier,

the president said he was flexible. >> i have a right to go up or down depending on the country and i'll have a right to drop out countries or add countries. >> reporter: the president calls the tariffs a matter of national security. sources familiar with the deliberations tell abc news that national security adviser mcmaster and defense secretary, james mattis are both opposed. in congress republicans overwhelmingly oppose the tariff. >> a lot of collateral damage. >> reporter: the analysis by the nonpartisan trade partnership projects the trump tariffs will result in a net loss of 146,000 american jobs in the first year alone. several u.s. trading partners have threatened to impose tariffs of their own on iconic american products such as bourbon, harley davidson motorcycles and levi's jeans. the president's tariffs will continue to be challenges. there are already republican efforts to block him through congressional action and you can be certain there will be a legal

challenge as well. jonathan carl, abc news, the white house. >> and quite a meeting. i have to say, the new york post for the win this morning, capturing it with the cover, the kim and i. >> et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. >> we move on in the meantime. and mexico says a popular resort city is safe despite the new travel warning from the united states. the state department warning focuses on playa delcarmen as many spring breakers plan to head there and nearby cancun. but it doesn't specify what kind of security threat caused the warning. officials say it is not related to this explosion on a ferryboat that injured at least two dozen people and several americans. the investigation of that incident has reportedly found evidence of a homemade explosive device. britain is promising a strong response after a nerve agent attack on a former russian spy. the 66-year-old and his daughter remain in critical condition. 21 people received medical

treatment after the attack. the first police officer on the scene is listed in serious condition. russians are denying any involvement. clean up is underway for millions of americans who were hit hard by the monster nor'easter this week. the radar is tracking that system, still, which is significantly weaker as it moves out. in its wake, piled up snow and debris from downed trees crippling traffic on many roadways and railways. and more than 800,000 customers still have no electricity. as abc's rob explains, a third nor'easter could be taking shape. >> reporter: first, let's get rid of this current nor'easter. i showed the impressive snow totals. four states showing between two and three feet of snow. hopefully the next round will show this. next storm brings heavier rain and thunderstorms to the south saturday, mostly rain to the mid-atlantic on sunday. then we're not sure. it could be a full-on nor'easter monday. another model shows it completely going out to sea.

we'll have much more confidence over the weekend but we're certainly hoping for option number two. >> rob, thank you. and the suspect in the florida school massacre is changing his not guilty plea to no plea at all. the public defender for the 19-year-old alleged shooter says the plea was entered prematurely. lawyers have also discussed guilty pleas of 17 murders, if prosecutors agree not to pursue the death penalty. meanwhile, the sheriff's office has released some of the desperate 911 calls and frantic police radio transmissions that came in as the shots were fired. abc's, victor oquendo has more. >> reporter: for the first time the 911 calls. parents dialing just as they learn there was a shooting at school. >> she says she is behind the desk right now but the shots were close, i mean hopefully -- >> the shots were close to her? >> yes. >> reporter: you can hear a mother talking to a child inside that school. >> i love you. play dead. if he shoots, play dead.

so this surveillance video so this surveillance video of a woman refusing to give up her purse to a robber inside a convenience store south of houston. police say the suspect did manage to grab $400 and bolt out of the store. but that doesn't end there. that woman followed him to his car, tries to open the passenger side door, then pounds her fist on his car as he drives away. police are now searching for that suspect. >> wow. >> the video outside. >> she did not want to let him go. >> i would not do that. >> i don't think that's what police advise in a situation like this. >> it ends up working out in the end but no. a fertility clinic in cleveland is investigating a refrigerator malfunction that

may have damaged frozen eggs and embryoees. >> university hospitals fertility clinic says, over the weekend, the temperature in one part of the liquid nitrogen storage tank was higher than limits. the incident could have damaged more than 2100 frozen eggs and embryos. up to 600 families may have been impacted by this. what started as a dream vacation for hundreds of fun seekers nearly ended in tragedy. >> the norwegian cruise ship was back to port canaveral, florida. that's when witnesses say a woman who may have been sitting on a railing and may have been taking a selfie lost her balance. >> so the ship's crew launched into action, lowering the rescue boats and calling others for help. one witness says the woman did her best to hang on to the balcony but she eventually fell some 15 stories into the ocean. >> she was trapped on the other side of this very strong plexiglass. some big muscle guys were trying to kick the plexiglass in. the guys were super strong. they could not break the plastic, unfortunately.
