little more sunshine. heading out this evening, no need for the umbrella. tomorrow evening, that's a different story. we'll talk about that when we come back. hey, alexis. >> good morning, mike. definitely a lot of fog. i mentioned that dense fog advisory for golden gate bridge. we don't have any fog advisories if you're crossing the bay bridge this morning. there is plenty of fog in the east bay. i have live doppler 7 layered on top of the traffic maps. look at all of that. in the heart of the area. the brighter the white, the denser the fog. we have thick areas. you want to slow down and increase the following distance on a morning like thisment so far so good. we're incident-free right now. we'll check on mass transit up next. thank you, alexis. the white house is working out details on what will be a historic meeting between president trump and north korean leader kim jong un. >> a surprise announcement after the tension between the

countries. arlette saenz is in washington for us. >> good morning to you. just a few months ago, the idea of president trump sitting down with north korean leader kim jong-un was unimaginable. it will be the first time a sitting u.s. president and north korean leader meet face to face. >> it's a stunning diplomatic overture in a decades-long nuclear standoff a the white house, a top official delivered a message from the north. kim jong-un decided to stop -- >> to meet mr. trump as soon as possible. >> the white house says the president accepted the invitation. mr. trump tweeted, great progress being made. but sanctioning will remain until an agreement is reached. meeting being planned. the surprise invitation caps off months of insults. >> they will be met with fire

and fury. p., like the world has never seen. >> while kim his missile test, the president responded with derision. >> little rocket man. >> now the two clashing leaders could be meeting by may. a short while ago, secretary of state rex tillerson gave a press conference where he talked about this meeting. saying it will take a few weeks to set up. the president feels that the time for those discussions with right, partly because they feel that kim jong un's changed in a fairly dramatic way. arlette saenz. some gop lawmakers are calling on the white house to hold public officials liable for crime committed by undocumented immigrant. the move comes as president trump says his administration should find ways to withhold federal grant money from areas like san francisco. the president made the remarks at the beginning of a cabinet

meeting on thursday. he called out oakland mayor libby s imminent i.c.e. raid. china called this a serious attack on trade. the french economy says there are no winners in a trade war. although canada and mexico are temporarily exempt from the tariffs, canada says it will press washington to drop them. steel businesses in the bay area are seeing prices go up 15% in the last month. >> any businesses like us will continue to profit and make a little more money from all of this. it's the same with the gas and oil industry, the same kinds of things happening. when they start raising their prices because of gas shortages, they end up making more money in the end. >> the president signed off on the tariffs yesterday. they take effect in two weeks. happening today, an east bay community will add its voice to the growing course of people

demanding gun control. they will hold a rally in support of common sense gun control laws. they stand as one with the parkland, florida, communities. the rally once from 4:00 until 7:00 at san ramon city hall. another student protest in the south bay. abc 7 news was in san jose when hundreds of alum rock district school students walked out with their parents. they're fed up with the way the board of trustees is mismanaging the system. they're currently being investigated. .san francisco planning commission voted to block a condo conversion that made headlines when a 100-year-old woman was evicted from the building. according to the examiner, they argued that peter owens misled the planning department by failing to disclose he evicted iris canada. she died a month later after suffering a stroke. canada refused to sign off on the conversion of her apartment into a condo.

canada hadn't actually lived in that unit for years. owens can appeal to the board of supervisors. high-speed rail authority is set to reveal a project need more time and money. the last estimate put the cost at $64 billion p the first segment of the track is being built in the central valley. it has faced construction delays and $3 billion over budget. the new chief is promising more transparency with the public about challenges in the future. also happening today, a special honor for the late mayor ed lee. a groundbreaking ceremony will be held for a new dormitory at the academy on treasure island. lee's widow will preside over it. the $3.5 million facility and the student garden will be named in honor of mayor lee. he supported the academy and facilitated a $1.5 million donation that made the

support to keep her from flipping. officials say the girl appears to be okay. she's been taken to a hospital as a precaution this morning. jessica, thank you. the so-called pharma bro, martin shkreli will be sentenced in a fraud case. i made national news when he increased the price of a life-saving aids drug by 5,000% overnight. he is facing up to 15 years in prison following his conviction last august on different charges that he deceived investors in a pair of failed hedge funds. he wrote a letter to the judge saying, quote, i was a fool. a berkeley bookstore is on alert after a right wing group threat yoened to burn the place down. this happened near the uc berkeley campus. they were seen insulting volunteers of the store. the store has been under attack since the pro-trump rally in berkeley. they say protesters have showed up at the store on ten other occasions. the stores sells an array of

police chief now after 31 years of service. he's retiring in july. he joined the police department in 1987 and worked his way up through the ranks. became police chief in 2013. fremont city leaders are in a search to find his successor. >> one of those running for san francisco mayor is getting support from snoop dogg. >> it's time an accomplished woman led the city. there's only been one woman mayor. dianne feinstein. mayor ed lee died unexpectedly in december. the election to choose his replacement is on june 5th. of the eight candidates, six are women. you're never more than 7 minutes away. let's talk about the drought monitor. came out yesterday about an hour after this time. i want to make sure you notice that nothing really happened, even with the great soaking we had, we stopped the dry weather
