now, today, we learned one of the three victims, jennifer gonzales was nearly 7 months pregnant. jennifer golick leaves behind a husband and 7-year-old daughter and christine loeber dedicated her live to helping veterans heal. >> they all died yesterday after albert wong turned the-- at the veterans home. the victims' bodies were found nearly nine hours after wong entered the treatment center with a gun. we're told wong was kicked out of their program two weeks earlier. >> we do have live team coverage right now from napa county. we begin with abc7 news reporter cornell bernard live in napa for us with new information about the victims. cornell? >> reporter: dion and eric, we are on the street where christine loeber lived. she lost her life at the veterans home yesterday, of course. friends and relatives say all three victims dedicated their lives to helping vets. >> she was just a really

generous and kind person. >> reporter: kennedy o'brian hugged neighbors outside the home of her close friend christine loeber. loeber was killed friday at the veterans home of california. >> it's just so tragic that this actually happened at the hands of, you know, somebody that she was originally trying to help. >> reporter: loeber was the executive director of the pathway home. a nonprofit treating veterans suffering from post traumatic stress. the gunman, albert wong, an army vet, was a former client. police say wong took loeber and two other mental health workers hostage. jennifer gonzales and 42-year-old jennifer golick, i therapist. golick's brother told us off camera she was an amazing smart woman. her family is devastated. gary rose is a veteran who knew all three. >> we lost three beautiful, wonderful women. let's hope that the message goes out that we just need to help

these guys with ptsd more and more so this doesn't happen again. >> sandra woodford knew christine loeber. >> a beautiful, outgoing, congenial, intelligent woman. that really cared for the program. cared for the veterans. >> reporter: cindy o'brian is haunted by a conversation about ptsd she once had with loeber. >> i did ask her when we first became friends if he she ever worried about something like this happening. she was very brave and never really took that into consideration, i don't think. >> reporter: three women dedicated to helping war vets heal gone too soon. in napa county, cornell bernard, abc7 news. >> the three women were integral parts of the pathway home program and it's located in the heart of the 9,000-acre veterans campus. it helps veterans cope with the stresses of pursuing higher education and job training. meantime, the secretary of

california's department of veterans affairs arrived at the veterans home today and offered comfort and support to both the employers and the veterans there. abc7 reporter is there with this story. lisa? >> reporter: dion, still a lot of unanswered questions at this hour. the chp is leading this investigation and all day long a lot of officers have been going in and out of this building behind me. i did check in just a short time ago with theartment and was told there are no new updates in this tragic case. brightly colored flowers are placed outside pathway home this somber afternoon. outside madison hall, yellow tape continues to flow across the building's entrance and parking lot. there is silence here one day after yesterday's tragic events. >> many of us knew all of these people personally. in particular, those that worked at pathway, and so this is not easy for any of us. and we're just trying to figure it out one day at a time right

now. >> reporter: yountville's mayor, who is also a pathway home board member spoke today, along with the secretary of california's department of veterans affairs. counselors arrived on site this morning to offer support. >> the veterans were some of them traumatized. we're working with them. we also have employees that have now issues also, and going to wk wite' w trehem for as lons it takes. >> reporter: pathway home opened ten years ago and is currently treating six vets. board members are meeting today to discuss plans for their continued care without the help of these three dedicated women. >> and we're going to continue to rise up and give them the type of assistance and care that they all need nsa in yountville, abc7 news. >> now to the man behind the gun, albert wong lived for a time in napa and served his country, including a nearly year-long deployment in afghanistan with the u.s. army. abc7 reporter live in napa where she spoke to his neighbors. alyssa? >> reporter: wong was listed at

this address in napa not too long ago. neighbors recognized his face but say he never showed any warning signs. this quiet napa street is the last known residence of albert wong. he lived at this corner house on darling street until about a year ago. his next door neighbor, who did not want to be on camera, told me he lived there with an elderly woman. he sometimes saw wong smoking cigarettes in the driveway. other neighbors never spoke to him but remember seeing wong around. >> the times i think we saw him walking aimlessly, just kind of minding his own business. >> reporter: neighbors call this a close-knit community. they say the house is now awe rental. >> it just gives me chills. actually, i can't imagine somebody that sick being around here, especially, you know, having kids and being a very family-focused neighborhood. >> pretty scare. but, you know, it just goes to show that anything can happen on any day. >> reporter: wong was a

decorated veteran. a former army rifleman who served in afghanistan. yountville mayor john dunbar mourned the loss of the three women killed in the hostage situation. he also remembered the gunman. >> we also lost one of our heros, who clearly had demons that resulted in the terrible tragedy that we all experienced here. >> reporter: alissa harrington, abc7 news. >> we have just learned the pathway home is planning to hold a memorial service on monday, march 19th at 6:00 p.m. it will take place at the napa valley performing arts center in lincoln theater in yountville. the pathway home has established a fund to provide direct support to the families of the three victims. we have information on how to donate on abc7news.com. >> a man is being hailed a hero tonight after pulling his neighbor out of her san jose home seconds before it burst into flames.

she snapped these pictures just moments after the rescue. you can see there the raging fire and dark smoke engulfing the home on bel air avenue. the man, chad collins, walked us through what happened after he heard a loud explosion just before 11:00 a.m. >> part of the roof had fallen down and, you know, your first reaction is to see if anyone was in there. i was calling out. i heard someone call back. >> he says the neighbor is in her 70s or 80s and told him she was in the bathroom. >> wearing a sweater. it has sings and holes in it, you could smell burnt fabric. >> chad said he and his neighbor are doing okay. the cause of the fire and blast are still under investigation. developing news out of los angeles county. a man suspected of shooting two police officers, killing one of them, is in custody now after a 16-hour standoff. following a chase last night, the gunman shot an officer through a door then shot a second officer in the face, who was trying to pull his comrade to safety.

the suspect finally gave himself up within the last few hours. law enforcement saluted the officer as the coroner's van pulled into the police station. a car ended up stuck nearly midway into the wall of a home in san francisco. take a look at this. police, they are trying to figure out exactly how this happened. the car hit a parked car, smashed through the garage of the home and then plowed through the back wall. it happened at about 2:00 this morning at a house on grand view avenue near twin peaks. it is unclear if there are any injuries. are you still conserving water? >> coming up, a look at how the bay area is doing when it comes to watching our water usage and the area that's letting it flow. >> we've got a fan issue here. >> kevin durant has a response to a trash-talking fan at last night's game. what durant said about the incident off the court. >> i'm spencer christian, spotty sprinkles moving through the bay area right now. but nothing

nearly half of california remains in some form of drought. the californias are not helping conserve water like we did a few years ago. the state water resources control board reports in january this year, our water savings totalled less than 1% compared to january of 2013. that's when the state began tracking water savings because of severe drought. the south coast region from los angeles to san diego is the only region that increased, using 3.8% more water. much of the bay area continues to conserve, using 6.9% less water over all.
