>> abc 7 news reporter alyssa harrington is live at pfc in san francisco. alyssa? >> good morning. a doctor here at the clinic, alerting him to a very unfortunate incident. this happened last sunday about a week ago at the pacific fertility center here in san francisco. in a letter, dr. carl herbert told patients that a piece of equipment lost nitrogen for a brief period of time. hundreds of patients storing tissue may have been impacted. one of the patients spoke with abc 7 news undergoing fertility treatments at pfc. >> losing those possibilities is something that it's really difficult to put any kind of number on. for some people, this is perhaps their only chance at having biological children. >> we're not saying the tissue is lost.

yes, it may be affected. and we have to acknowledge that. but our hopes are that it will be of minimal impact. >> dr. herbert said they ordered a third alarm system for those tanks to prevent anything like this from happening again. pfc has launched and in-depth investigation. >> reporting live in san francisco, alyssa harrington, abc 7 news. alyssa, thank you. a similar mishap on the same day in cleveland, ohio. the problem with the liquid nitrogen system might have -- heartbroken patients plan to sue. >> it's beyond devastating. it's like a spiritual emotional, physical, loss. >> what i have is gone. >> there's no way to recreate it. >> we do not know the viability of all of the stored eggs and embryos. although we do know some have been impacted.

airport in nepal. happened about three hours ago. sadly, the death toll continues to go up. at least 39 people are dead. that's the official number. it's gone up since i last told you about this. but an army spokesperson said moments ago that there could be up to 50 people dead. there are injuries and also people still unaccounted for. a total of 71 people were on board when the plane went down. the flight was flying to nepal from bangladesh. when the plane crashed, it also caught on fire. it has made this rescue effort much more difficult and i'll keep watching for updates. back to you. >> thank you for the update, jessica. a man is facing two felony counts including dui after santa rosa police say he hit four people. police tell us they were called to 4th street and p burke wood avenue. all have significant injuries. they are expected to survive. officers sent us pictures of the suspect's car and the restaurant. he was found by a canine dog

now. this area of low pressure is going to sit there and spin towards us and sit on top of us the next search days. chunks of energy will rotate through. it will tap moisture and going to bring us a very soggy, breezy week. here's a look at walnut creek. one of the areas not dealing with the fog this morning. as we look southbound 680, it's very dry right now. morning fog is the biggest issue so far for today. but then this evening, the showers and the breezes come in. the rain becomes steady overnight. the breezes become faster and the heavier rain and thunderstorms is still deeper into the forecast. here we are at 9:00 in the morning. a lot of gray out there. there's pockets of sunshine. you can see in the east bay an the south bay. the clouds will increase once we get past the lunch-hour. yellow. the green and the moderate to light showers developing. getting more numerous during the evening commute. if you get on a dry road, you're one of the lucky ones. looks like the south bay and the east bay are the most likely to see the least amount of rain during the evening commute. overnight, there's a wall of

water coming in just in time for tomorrow's morning commute. all the way through 9:00. then it turns over to showers with some scattered thunderstorms possible tomorrow. snow level way too high. lightning, thunder, small hail and very small possibility out of the first storm. look at this, about 7:00 this evening, streets are wet. by 4:00, we're looking at a tenth, quarter of an inch. by tomorrow evening, a quarter to possibly 3/4 of an inch and it gets heavier heading into the evening hours. a half inch to an inch. remember, this is just a 1 on the storm impact scale. can you imagine what wednesday and thursday are going to do with the heavier rain and the thunderstorms and the snow levels dropping down to 3,000 feet. it's going to be a fun week. so far, it hasn't been fun on the roads. you have good news, i hear, alexis. >> i do. finally, mike. we've been tracking a full closure of interstate 880 in oakland at 23rd avenue. you're still seeing red on the sensors. but everything cleared and opened back up a couple minutes ago.

this is due to downed power lines that were spread across the roadway. pg&e had to be called out to the scene and they just got those cleared. both sides of traffic are moving. we confirmed that with chp. residual delays. in the meantime, as long as you're not in a big rig, hop on 580 for an alternate, that may be a good idea. i think it's clearing early enough that we should be able to bounce back this morning. a check of the bay bridge toll plaza. things slowly p easing -- it's happening any minute now for the metering lights. tim mcgraw's representatives say the singer will be fine after he collapsed in ireland. his wife, singer faith hill, said her husband was quote, super dehydrated and made the decision he was not going to go back on stage in dublin. mcgraw was perform as part of the country to country mp concert had already performed on friday and saturday night.

village yesterday for a rally in honor of international working women's day. the large crowd marched through the streets many holding signs supporting various movements. they are focused on a lot more than just women's rights. >> we know that it is -- it's a really scary time on all levels of government. we want to make sure that oakland continues to be a sanctuary city and continues to protect your immigrant communities. >> women's day dates back to 1909 when the first celebration took place in new york city. it ne technically falls on march 8th, but they held the rally over the weekend instead. this is a bald eagle taking care of two chicks at san bernardino national forest. they hatched near big bear lake and are a sign of something much bigger. recent canvassing found a total of 15 bald eagles. once on president brink of extinction in the united states, it's enjoyed a resurgence over the past several decades.

up. let's see if alexis has more good news. >> things continue to improve in oakland. if you weren't with us early this morning, we had a full closure of 880 at 23rd due to downed power lines. everything opened back up about 20 minutes ago. a little stop-and-go traffic remains northbound. we had a crash northbound 880 at 66 in the two right lanes. that's pushed off to the shoulder there. things looking better there. everything else is filling in. we'll check the slow spots coming up in less than ten. a heartbreaking loss this morning. a tribute is growing for the three people shot and killed inside a veterans facility in yountville. a memorial will take place march 19th. jennifer golick tells us she was an amazing smart woman. she leaves behind a husband and 7-year-old daughter. jennifer gonzalez was nearly 7 months pregnant. her husband said that she will,

quote, always be remembered for her unconditional love and incredibly giving heart. jennifer and her two colleagues died doing the work they were passionate about. >> chris tone loeber. reporter amy hollyfield is live with more. amy? >> reporter: good morning, matt. it is moving to see all of the tributes left here at the entrance of the veterans home here in yountville. you can see where people are sharing their love for the victims and their grief through notes, candles and flowers. one of the shooting victims, christine loeber, was planning to host a friend from half moon bay for the weekend. .friend waited for hours on christine's doorstep wondering where she was. she eventually learned of the hostage situation and christine's death. instead, she spent the weekend deal with ting with the loss. >> surreal.

it happened at 40th street near market. they arrived on the skeep last night because of a report of a man down in the street. they requested backup. police say that the officers who arrived on scene were not wearing uniforms. but saw the man was armed. they gave him, quote, verbal commands, but police say the man did not comply and they shot him. he died at the scene. the trump administration will unveil a plan this morning to increase school safety. it includes addressing the mental health system, improving security at the nation's schools but does not mention raising the minimum age to buy a gun. president trump made day statement that it's common sense to raise the age to 21. the nra and many members of gop oppose that proposal and the plan doesn't have it. one official tried to say otherwise. >> for certain firearms, again, there's going to be recommendations to states, a task force, that will be a kpoen ept of it, raising the age.

>> that component calls for a commission to examine the issue of raising the age. one senator called it an insult to the victims of gun violence. president trump is set to visit california tomorrow. it is his first trip here since taking office. his main stop will be in san diego. the president will get an up close look at the -- los angeles here will be a fundraiser that will cost $250,000. students and faculty rallying for a freeze on tuition. the systems are considering tuition hikes. they need to make up for the lack of funds in governor brown's budget. state coffers are flush and there's no need to raise the price of an education they say. check out if you're driving through emeryville. check out the fog heading

towards the maze. the headlights are there. it's also thick across the north bay. novato. look at that. down to 3/4 of a mile. same thing in petaluma. sebastopol, guerneville, it hasn't made it to santa rosa. it is start to go go across 37. over towards american canyon where it's 44 iet now and napa about 50. we have fog along the coast also. watch out at half moon bay. it's 49 in san carlos and also in san francisco. 48 in lafayette. 53 in tracy. we've got 51 in newark and 54 in san jose. in fact, here it is. 280 at 17, it's pretty clear there right now. fog for the roads this morning and then showers for the evening commute. the showers will touch more of us than the fog is impacting this morning. the evening commute could be a little tougher. i'll have more in less than seven minutes. mass transit, cool to mild for the most part. a foggy ferry ride this morning. here we are in the afternoon

it's 5:43 on this monday. let's look around the state. mid to upper 70s in sacramento and fresno. it's going to be dry in the s r sierra today but it changes. the winter storm starts tomorrow. 3 feet possible in some localized areas. the best time to head up there is before 1:00 tomorrow afternoon because look at this. by 8:00 wednesday morning, we're already looking at a foot to 2 feet of snow in some areas. we'll add a couple of more

inches heading to 5:00. but as we look at i very quiet lake tahoe this morning, we have more moderate snow for thursday and friday tapering to snow showers saturday and finally sunday it's going to be quiet. really trying to get this miracle march squeezed in. the pilot of a helicopter that crashed into new york city's east river now thinks he had engine failure. all five passengers on board died. let me show you these images. the flight was chartered for a photo shoot where they took photos with the doors open. these are pictures taken of the helicopter shortly before it went down. >> the cell phone video shows the final seconds, the helicopter crashing into the water. >> heard something and we -- we looked back at the water and there was something floating on the water. >> we were all calling 911.

bee didn't see or hear anything. we saw the yellow raft and then someone on top of it. >> crash happened yesterday. this morning ntsb is sending a team to determine what caused that helicopter to go down. very active investigation this morning under way. the pilot was treated and released from the hospital. the only survivor. matt. >> thank you, jessica. pilot is expected to survivor after a small plane crashed in western sonoma county. video shot from highway camera. >> the chp helicopter crew rushed them to santa rosa mo memorial hospital. joseph receiver turned 101 years old this past thursday. yesterday, he received a surprise gift as a present. the key to the city. his granddaughter felt he deserved recognition.

4:00 tomorrow morning, steadier light to moderate rain moves in and takes over the bay area during the morning commute and transfers to showers and possible thunderstorms as we head towards tomorrow afternoon. snow level way too high for us to worry about it. let take a look at the rainfall totals during the evening hours. you can see wet weather everywhere by 7:00. you can see it really picks up overnight and tomorrow. look at the green starting to encroach. that's an inch of rain. we'll have a half inch to an inch tuesday evening in most neighborhoods. a 2, moderate on the storm. then another rainy day. but only lighter for friday. that was a lot to talk about. so does alexis. >> no kidding. i'm headed back to 880 in oakland where we had downed power wires. those are clear. but we've got a couple other problems in the same area. northbound 880 at 66th avenue. we have reports of yet another crash. our third issue of the morning by the coliseum.
