a 1. you step outside, you're like wait a minute, it's not raining yet. that's right. it's going to rain later on during the afternoon and evening commute. this morning, we're dealing with some fog. i'll show you that in a second. it's going to get breezy with gusts at 45 miles per hour. we'll have rain turning to showers. low along the coast. high of 37 across the north bay. that's supposed to be the golden gate bridge. that looks like walnut creek. my accuweather 12-hour planner, low 60s at the coast. we're hitting the mid to upper 60s. showers hit at 4:00. here's alexis. >> good morning, mike. taking a look at the roads here. we're a lot better off than two hours ago. we have power lines down on 880 that resulted in a full closure in both directions for over an hour. everything is back open now. we're looking at mostly green traveling conditions. we have a crash at 880 and 66. not much of a delay. it must be off on the right

shoulder by now. debris reported past state route 238. that's stop and go as well. the bay bridge toll plaza and the metering lights on at 5:20 this morning. we'll look at drive times coming up next. heartbreaking news for fertility patients. a freezer malfunction may have affected their eggs and embryos. >> they're still waiting to hear if they're okay. alyssa harrington is live at pfc in san francisco. alyssa? >> reporter: that's pfc behind me where thousands of women freeze their eggs in hopes of having a baby. for many, that dream could be over. it suffered a liquid nitrogen failure back on march 4th. this compromised a tank storing thousands of embryos. the lab director noticed the problem during a routine check. dr. herbert, the president of pfc, sent a letter to patients

letting them know about a very unfortunate incident. >> the nitrogen level in the tank was very low. that meant an emergency filling which began immediately. >> it came as a shock. you put so much faith in the process. >> reporter: katie miller is one of about 400 patients who received that letter. she's undergoing fertility treatments at pfc now hoping for her third child. now, on pfc's website, i found a section that describes how they monitor these tanks that hold the embryos. there are sensors that monitor every piece of equipment with an alert system that will call doctors over and over again p on their phones even in the middle hf the night if they detect a problem. it's unclear what happened in this case. reporting live in san francisco, alyssa harrington, abc 7 news. that is the question. thank you, alyssa. a similar mishap happened on the same day at a clinic in cleveland, ohio.

the problem with the liquid nitrogen cooling system might have compromised 2,000 eggs and embryos there and heartbroken patients plan to sue. >> it's beyond devastating. it's like a spiritual emotional physical loss. >> what i had is gone. there's no way to recreate it. >> at this point we do not know the viability of all of the stored eggs and embryos, although we do know some have been impacted. >> university hospital braus in outside experts to see what went wrong. they'll determine if the eggs and embryos are viable. they must be fully thawed. they cannot be refrozen. if you are a patient and are worried you may be affected, you're asked to go we have the number and more at abc7news.com. one. women killed friday in yountville, maura turner was

college friends with christine loeber, the executive director the pathway home. the program is aimed to help veterans with ptsd. turner said loeber felt that was her calling in the world. she remembers her friend as caring and selfless. a public memorial is set for next monday. the future of the pathway home remains unclear. the home is closed indefinitely. the six pathway residents are staying at hotels in napa county while officials discuss how to move forward. it's unclear how the shooter got around personnel on the property. the facilities board member are criticizing. emergency protocols and screenings in place for incoming patients. we're learning more details about what happened. >> albert wong told them he was ache angry at staff members and wanted to get back at them. he was asked to leave after being found with knives two weeks ago. wong's brother told the press democrat, quote, whatever happened out there, he didn't say he was going to shoot

emeryville. look at that. the maze, the bay bridge toll plaza starting to get really thick with fog. that's going to hang around through at least 9:00. here's a look at emeryville. you can see it's still very thick there. you're going to be doing yard work, this is the best day. it's the driest day. when the showers and the storm doors opens. exercising, wet this evening, best chance to do it this evening. morning fog and showers this afternoon. maybe you can get some time in there in between. temperatures run from 63 at half moon bay, antioch and san jose at 70. even more showers heavier with the yellows and the orange. moderate showers coming in tonight and another mild night with low to upper 50s. we'll take an hour by hour look at this storm coming up. >> it's been pretty busy. incidents to talk about this morning. here's a new one. westbound 80 past highway 4 in the hercules area. we have a two-car crash. one is off on the shoulder. the other vehicle sitting in the slow lane, the far right lane.

one enterprising person found a way to beat.housing crisis by camping on the roof of the antioch amtrak station. police were alerted about the tent last week and after investigating, called in an unsafe rooftop camp. the camper is a transient who has taken his yellow tent elsewhere. >> the san francisco fire department is remind egg dog owners to keep an eye on their pets. another dog got stuck. they tweeted out a picture of hobey, the dog surrounded by rescuers yesterday. firefighters say dog owners need to be aware of the cliffs. keep your dogs on a leash if you are not sure. >> san mateo officials are warning about an aggressive mountain lion in pesce der owe. >> they heard their small pet yelp and the animal not seen since. although there's -- >> they've recently seen reports of an aggressive lion.

to spend a saturday. >> very cool. we're talking about a bad week for camping. >> unless you have a cabin. if you have a tent, not so much. yeah, the wind will be a little brisk. and the storms will be a little heavy at times. here's a look at the golden gate bridge. want to start off with good news. the winds have blown away the fog away from the golden gate bridge. it's moving to other areas. we'll show you that in a second. >> area of low pressure is going to sit there and spin and slowly work its way towards us and sit on top of us for about six or seven days and bring us constant chances of rain. here's a look at some of that fog blowing into the east bay right now and up towards novato and along highway 37. fog to showers. morning to afternoon. mild highs today thanks to a light breeze until those showers start to develop this afternoon. then the breezes pick up. we'll have steady rain for tomorrow's morning commute and even faster breezes and then a

stronger storm for wednesday and to thursday. let's go through the hour by hour. clouds, you can see the gray out there and you can see holes in it. there will be a little bit of sunshine, especially in the east bay and south bay in the morning hours. then the clouds will thicken during the afternoon hours and you can see the scattered showers developing. mainly light. there's a few pockets of yellow out there. those get more numerous heading through the evening commute and so does the widespread nature of the rain. heading to tomorrow at 4:00, you can see all of that. that's going to be around the entire morning commute. then it will transition over to showers and even some thunderstorms are possible during the afternoon and evening hours. lightning and hail possible. snow, no. not yet. so during the evening commute, by 7:00, everybody wet. tomorrow morning, you'll be driving in the rain most likely everywhere. then you can see some of the green showing up by tomorrow evening. that's the one-inch rains. that's just the beginning. look at this. we've got a 2 for wednesday and

thursday. snow levels dropping down to around 3,000 feet. then another day of wet weather friday. but at least a little bit lighter. here's alexis. good morning, mike. we have had quite a few issues this morning and a new one popped up in the fremont area. let take you to southbound 680. just before you get to mission boulevard. we've got a new crash blocking one lane right now. they are calling dpfor a tow trk to the scene. we are seeing slight delays. not a terrible backup but one i will keep my oon i. a backup at the bay bridge toll plaza. foggy here as well. the metering lights on for about an hour now. typical delays through the maze and visibility issues as well. drive times, we've got a couple slow spots. we'll talk about those in less than ten. thank you, alexis. the smart train ridership revenues are right on track, so to speak. the agency has collected over $1.7 million in fares.

hi everyone. brand new this morning. governor jerry brown has a message for president trump ahead of his visit to san diego tomorrow. he says take another look at california and the contributions of immigrants to our state. he released a new letter this morning. he put it out on twitter. i want to show you here and go ahead and zoom in on my computer so you can see some of it, the governor says prosperity is not built on isolation. quite the opposite. california thrives because we're welcoming immigrants and innovators from across the globe. he then goes on to remind president trump that california is the sixth largest economy in the world. governor brown then urges president trump to visit the central valley mentioning fresno and madeira and says that in california, we're building bridges, metaphorically and literally. back to you, matt. >> thanks, jessica. check this out. this is a bald eagle taking care of two chicks in the san bernardino national forest.

jennifer golick has a therapist. her brother told us she was an amazing, smart woman and her family is devastated. she leaves behind a husband and 7-year-old daughter. jennifgenerajennifer gonzala was 7 months pregnant and she will be remembered for unconditional love and incredibly giving heart. he says they died doing the work they were passionate about. >> jennifer loeber dedicated hir life to helping vaeterans heal. amy hollyfield is live with more. >> reporter: it's not going to be a typical monday morning here at the veterans home. just look at the entrance. it's turned into a memorial for the victims where people have been leaving flowers and candles in honor of their memory. christine loeber is one of the three women who was killed. we caught up with a friend of hers yesterday planning to spend the weekend with christine. she came to town from half moon

bay. instead, she spent the weekend talking about christine's life and mourning her loss. >> she wouldn't each know how many people adored her, friends of friends of friends who are pouring out grief on social media because they remember her and loved her just from knowing her and seeing her maybe once a year. she had that effect. she was remarkably generous in every way. a rare person. >> reporter: three women who worked at pathway home at the veterans home were killed frida% by a man who had been treated here at the centerment pathway home will remain closed indefinitely. counselors will be here today to help anyone who needs to talk. employees are also working on planning a memorial service for their co-workers set for next monday here at the veterans home. reporting live in yountville, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. thank you, amy. if you'd like to pay tribute to the women, head to our facebook

page where you can share this badge. we've posted how you can help families of the victims and the pathway home on our website. abc7news.com. 6:34. we have new details involving a deadly officer involved shooting near the macarthur b.a.r.t. station. firefighters arrived on scene shortly after 6:15 last night because there was a report of a man down in the street. the man had a gun and requested backup. the officers who arrived on scene were not wearing uniforms but saw the man was armed. they gave him verbal commands but police say the man did not comply and they shot him. he died at the scene. the trump administration will unveil a plan to increase school safety. it includes improving security at the nation's schools but doesn't mention raising the minimum age to buy a gun. president trump made a statement on camera saying that it's common sense to raise the age to 21. the nra vigorously opposed that.

one white house official tried to talk about it otherwise. >> there are certain firearms, there's going to be recommendations to states, a task force. that will be a component of it, raising the age. >> that calls for the creation of a new federal commission on school safety to raise the purchase age. one called the plan an insult to victims much gun violence. i want to jump in here. because president trump is responding this morning trying to clarify what is happening with his gun bill. he was tweeting a few moments ago. saying strong improvement and strengthening of background checks will be fully backed by white house legislation moving forward. going on to say bump stocks will soon be out and then only minutes later also sending out this tweet saying on age limit. 18 to 2 is age limits, watching court cases and ruling before acting. things are moving rapidly on this, but not much political

support. we'll keep monitoring the situation and let you know if anything else develops from the white house. the ntsb will be in new york city to find out what caused this helicopter crash in the east river. five people died there. the pilot was the only one who survived. that pilot thinks that he had engine failure. >> he heard something and -- we heard something. >> horrific crash. >> we looked back at the water and something was floating on the water. >> we were all calling 911. we didn't see or hear anything. then we saw the yellow raft and someone on top of it. >> the flight was chartered by liberty helicopters. this is their third crash in the past 11 years. a pilot is expected to survive after a small plane crash in western sonoma county. you're looking at video shot from a highway patrol helicopter. firefighters freed the 73-year-old man from a small plane yesterday. chp helicopter crew then rushed him to santa rosa memorial hospital. you're never more than seven

minutes away from your accuweather forecast. wanted to look at the bay bridge toll plaza. look at the fog just flowing from north to south across there. so be careful. it's going to be around during the entire morning commute. now that the sun comes up an hour later, it's going to take an hour longer for it to work on the fog and dissipate. if you're waking up in the south bay, mostly cloudy conditions. you're seeing stars, no doubt. temperatures in the upper 40s to mid-50s like around santa teresa. san jose 54. our cool spot, saratoga and campbell, 47 degrees. 49 in san francisco. san carlos, 48. half moon bay. novato and livermore at 47 right now. lafayette, danville at 51. here's a look at the san mateo bidge. a lot of the fog hasn't made it over there yet. fog and showers. that's what you have to deal with. morning and afternoon commute. i put caution on there. mass transit, cool to mild. this afternoon, you'll have showers. maybe you could put caution there.

dead uly plane crash in the country of nepal overnight. i've been following this story throughout the morning. a death toll continues to grow. unfortunately now, 49 people confirmed dead. there are also injuries and people being treated right now. there's a rescue effort under way. total of 71 people on board when it went down. the plane crashed. it also caught on fire. it made the rescue efforts difficult this morning. the u.s. bengal i flight was flying to nepal. i have seen reports that the other 22 people have survived and are hospitalized. i have no word on the extent of injuries and whether they're expected to survive. still a fluid situation, back to you. the city of san jose removed the christopher columbus statue from inside of city hall over the weekend. the controversial statue will be
