a 1. you step outside, you're like wait a minute, it's not raining yet. that's right. it's going to rain later on during the afternoon and evening commute. this morning, we're dealing with some fog. i'll show you that in a second. it's going to get breezy with gusts at 45 miles per hour. we'll have rain turning to showers. low along the coast. high of 37 across the north bay. that's supposed to be the golden gate bridge. that looks like walnut creek. my accuweather 12-hour planner, low 60s at the coast. we're hitting the mid to upper 60s. showers hit at 4:00. here's alexis. >> good morning, mike. taking a look at the roads here. we're a lot better off than two hours ago. we have power lines down on 880 that resulted in a full closure in both directions for over an hour. everything is back open now. we're looking at mostly green traveling conditions. we have a crash at 880 and 66. not much of a delay. it must be off on the right

shoulder by now. debris reported past state route 238. that's stop and go as well. the bay bridge toll plaza and the metering lights on at 5:20 this morning. we'll look at drive times coming up next. heartbreaking news for fertility patients. a freezer malfunction may have affected their eggs and embryos. >> they're still waiting to hear if they're okay. alyssa harrington is live at pfc in san francisco. alyssa? >> reporter: that's pfc behind me where thousands of women freeze their eggs in hopes of having a baby. for many, that dream could be over. it suffered a liquid nitrogen failure back on march 4th. this compromised a tank storing thousands of embryos. the lab director noticed the problem during a routine check. dr. herbert, the president of pfc, sent a letter to patients

letting them know about a very unfortunate incident. >> the nitrogen level in the tank was very low. that meant an emergency filling which began immediately. >> it came as a shock. you put so much faith in the process. >> reporter: katie miller is one of about 400 patients who received that letter. she's undergoing fertility treatments at pfc now hoping for her third child. now, on pfc's website, i found a section that describes how they monitor these tanks that hold the embryos. there are sensors that monitor every piece of equipment with an alert system that will call doctors over and over again p on their phones even in the middle hf the night if they detect a problem. it's unclear what happened in this case. reporting live in san francisco, alyssa harrington, abc 7 news. that is the question. thank you, alyssa. a similar mishap happened on the same day at a clinic in cleveland, ohio.

college friends with christine loeber, the executive director the pathway home. the program is aimed to help veterans with ptsd. turner said loeber felt that was her calling in the world. she remembers her friend as caring and selfless. a public memorial is set for next monday. the future of the pathway home remains unclear. the home is closed indefinitely. the six pathway residents are staying at hotels in napa county while officials discuss how to move forward. it's unclear how the shooter got around personnel on the property. the facilities board member are criticizing. emergency protocols and screenings in place for incoming patients. we're learning more details about what happened. >> albert wong told them he was ache angry at staff members and wanted to get back at them. he was asked to leave after being found with knives two weeks ago. wong's brother told the press democrat, quote, whatever happened out there, he didn't say he was going to shoot

stronger storm for wednesday and to thursday. let's go through the hour by hour. clouds, you can see the gray out there and you can see holes in it. there will be a little bit of sunshine, especially in the east bay and south bay in the morning hours. then the clouds will thicken during the afternoon hours and you can see the scattered showers developing. mainly light. there's a few pockets of yellow out there. those get more numerous heading through the evening commute and so does the widespread nature of the rain. heading to tomorrow at 4:00, you can see all of that. that's going to be around the entire morning commute. then it will transition over to showers and even some thunderstorms are possible during the afternoon and evening hours. lightning and hail possible. snow, no. not yet. so during the evening commute, by 7:00, everybody wet. tomorrow morning, you'll be driving in the rain most likely everywhere. then you can see some of the green showing up by tomorrow evening. that's the one-inch rains. that's just the beginning. look at this. we've got a 2 for wednesday and

jennifer golick has a therapist. her brother told us she was an amazing, smart woman and her family is devastated. she leaves behind a husband and 7-year-old daughter. jennifgenerajennifer gonzala was 7 months pregnant and she will be remembered for unconditional love and incredibly giving heart. he says they died doing the work they were passionate about. >> jennifer loeber dedicated hir life to helping vaeterans heal. amy hollyfield is live with more. >> reporter: it's not going to be a typical monday morning here at the veterans home. just look at the entrance. it's turned into a memorial for the victims where people have been leaving flowers and candles in honor of their memory. christine loeber is one of the three women who was killed. we caught up with a friend of hers yesterday planning to spend the weekend with christine. she came to town from half moon

page where you can share this badge. we've posted how you can help families of the victims and the pathway home on our website. abc7news.com. 6:34. we have new details involving a deadly officer involved shooting near the macarthur b.a.r.t. station. firefighters arrived on scene shortly after 6:15 last night because there was a report of a man down in the street. the man had a gun and requested backup. the officers who arrived on scene were not wearing uniforms but saw the man was armed. they gave him verbal commands but police say the man did not comply and they shot him. he died at the scene. the trump administration will unveil a plan to increase school safety. it includes improving security at the nation's schools but doesn't mention raising the minimum age to buy a gun. president trump made a statement on camera saying that it's common sense to raise the age to 21. the nra vigorously opposed that.

one white house official tried to talk about it otherwise. >> there are certain firearms, there's going to be recommendations to states, a task force. that will be a component of it, raising the age. >> that calls for the creation of a new federal commission on school safety to raise the purchase age. one called the plan an insult to victims much gun violence. i want to jump in here. because president trump is responding this morning trying to clarify what is happening with his gun bill. he was tweeting a few moments ago. saying strong improvement and strengthening of background checks will be fully backed by white house legislation moving forward. going on to say bump stocks will soon be out and then only minutes later also sending out this tweet saying on age limit. 18 to 2 is age limits, watching court cases and ruling before acting. things are moving rapidly on this, but not much political

support. we'll keep monitoring the situation and let you know if anything else develops from the white house. the ntsb will be in new york city to find out what caused this helicopter crash in the east river. five people died there. the pilot was the only one who survived. that pilot thinks that he had engine failure. >> he heard something and -- we heard something. >> horrific crash. >> we looked back at the water and something was floating on the water. >> we were all calling 911. we didn't see or hear anything. then we saw the yellow raft and someone on top of it. >> the flight was chartered by liberty helicopters. this is their third crash in the past 11 years. a pilot is expected to survive after a small plane crash in western sonoma county. you're looking at video shot from a highway patrol helicopter. firefighters freed the 73-year-old man from a small plane yesterday. chp helicopter crew then rushed him to santa rosa memorial hospital. you're never more than seven

dead uly plane crash in the country of nepal overnight. i've been following this story throughout the morning. a death toll continues to grow. unfortunately now, 49 people confirmed dead. there are also injuries and people being treated right now. there's a rescue effort under way. total of 71 people on board when it went down. the plane crashed. it also caught on fire. it made the rescue efforts difficult this morning. the u.s. bengal i flight was flying to nepal. i have seen reports that the other 22 people have survived and are hospitalized. i have no word on the extent of injuries and whether they're expected to survive. still a fluid situation, back to you. the city of san jose removed the christopher columbus statue from inside of city hall over the weekend. the controversial statue will be

in san francisco. in a letter, dr. karl herbert told patients that a piece of equipment lost liquid nitrogen for a brief period of time. it was compromised and hundreds of patients storing tissue in that tank may have been impacted. >> we're not saying the tissue is lost. yes, it may be affected and we have to acknowledge that. our hopes are that it will be minimal impact. >> reporter: the problem was discovered during a routine inspection, at least 400 patients received that letter. dr. herbert said that they did order a third alarm system to prevent this type of thing from happening again. reporting live in san francisco, alyssa harrington, abc 7 news. alyssa, thank you. a similar problem happened on the same day at a fertility clinic in cleveland, ohio. the problem with the liquid nitrogen cooling system might have compromised 2,000 eggs and embryos there. university hospital brought in outside experts to see what went
