them. armed officers blocking intersections. and in the hills above, looking in and under everywhere and everything. using dogs, going house to house, in search of five armed suspects. >> they'll probably get out of here, you know, honestly. there's no point to really stay. >> reporter: the trouble started after 3:00 this morning. as many asinine suspects went on a rampage in three homes at least, on eugenia drive. they then headed south. >> it sounds like a group of armed men went door to door to three different residences, at least one man has been tied up and pistol whipped. and a group of men were in search of marijuana. >> reporter: the mos eerily similar to home invasions in santa rosa last month. one resident died. the suspects in that case came from out of state before being arrested in vallejo. in this characteristic the four suspects arrested so far appear to have come from north carolina, and, again, looking

for marijuana. >> with the legalization of marijuana, the price has gone down, availability has gone up. and i think everybody in the bay area's kind of a soft target. >> reporter: this morning, that appeared to be a private road that netted nothing for the suspect th suspects. warren lives right outside the entrance. >> i think they made a wrong turn. these are straight people here. they're just working people. >> reporter: according to the sonoma county sheriff's department, the five suspects are all african-american, four men, one woman. as for now, the search continues, but the s.w.a.t. teams and the massive search behind us have been discontinued, but you can imagine they're still on the search for them. turning now to the weather, it is shaping up to be a rainy week. >> we saw it in wayne's live shot. and as we take a look outside at

the emeryville cam you can see the dark, thick, gray clouds hanging over the sky there. >> the first storm is just beginning to push into the bay area, producing light rain in some areas. in the north bay, light showers up near novato right now. north of san rafael into vallejo. down on the peninsula and the south bay, and the east bay, we've got showers from redwood city and stanford over eastern to milpitas and fremont toward hayward. and here is our storm impact scale, indicating that this storm for tonight and tomorrow ranks one on the impact scale. a storm of light intensity. it will be breezy and gusty at times. by then we'll see more widespread rainfall and showers, and it will start to get wetter in the middle of the evening commute.

we' we'll see rain covering the area and another wave by late tonight and into tomorrow. for rush hour, look fire breezy conditions. light to moderate rainfall, slick spots and occasional downpours will be greeting commuters tomorrow morning. more i just a few minutes. new developments today with the storage tank malfunctions at two fertility clinics. people who had eggs and embryos in storage in san francisco are wondering if they're affected. we begin with carlos saucedo. carlos? >> reporter: well, patients have been going in and out of the pacific fertility center for much of the day in san francisco. many upset over the malfunction and what it could mean for their chances of starting their own family. hundreds of people hoping to grow their families through in-vitro fertilization received

word that a freezer malfunction may have affected patients' eggs and embryos. >> it affects ouren tire family structure. >> reporter: we were face timed from new zealand where her family has been turned upside down. >> our embryos may or may not have been impacted. they may no longer be viable. and i'm about to turn 41. so that was kind of my only, my only hope of having another pregnancy. >> she's been a patient at pfc since 2013 where her daughter was conceived. her hopes of having another child unclear. >> it's like you're losing a child. >> reporter: this woman did not want to be identified. she's just beginning to explore fertility treatment options but is now second guessing herself. >> i'm going to have to be fully assured that everything's being taken care of when it comes to the cryopreservation process. >> reporter: they reached out to

500 other patients with eggs and embryos in a storage tank that had been compromised earlier this month. this type of failure is highly unusual. the american society of reproduction said we will do everything we can to understand how these incidents kurd and ocd how we can work to preventother incidents from occurring. clinics across the country are double-checking, triple checking, making sure procedures and equipment are working properly. reporting live in san francisco, abc 7 news. >> emotional story, carlos, thank you. kristin sze has the latest on the lawsuit. >> not to mention the potential changes to the industry. >> a pennsylvania couple filed suit against university hospitals in cleveland. they follow an ohio couple who filed a class action lawsuit yesterday. elliott ash had his sperm frozen

before cancer treatment. they are hoping ivf will bring them a second child. but they got word that their two embryos are no longer viable during a malfunction that compromised nearly 2,000 eggs and embryos. >> you put so much faith into the physicians and medical team and to have this taken away and to be, your hopes and dreams destroyed. >> i face timed with chief medical correspondent dr. jennifer ashton today. she said although the process already comes with layers of safekeeping, both human and machine, there will certainly be changes half these incidents. i asked whether couples should store at multiple facilities. >> most of the time, all those specimens are stored together. >> dr. ashton says parents don't

need to worry about birth defects resulting from the eggs and embryos should they be viable and used. she explains the worry is compromised eggs are less likely to be fertilized. and compromised embryos are less likely to implant in the uterus. based on what police told him, the officer briefs telieve gunman and hostages may have been dead for hours. they eventually entered the room after wong never responded. state senator bill dodd says police had good reason for not storaging storming in right away. >> i think some of them probably knew what was going on. but the strategy was abundance of caution to make sure that law enforcement didn't create a situation and put them in harm's way if they still were alive. >> dodd also says that friday's

shooting should remind everyone of the need to provide veterans with as much support as possible when they return home from combat. a public memorial for these women will take place on march 19th. jennifer gonzales was nearly seven months pregnant. she will be remembered for her forgiving heart. she and her two colleagues died doing the work they were so passionate about. christine loberg was a yoga instructor, and jennifer was a therapist. she leaves behind a husband and 7-year-old daughter. today golug's family spoke for the first time. we have that and more from

developing news right now. authorities in austin, texas are investigating two package bomb motion explosions. a 17-year-old man is dead and his mother injured after an explosion on their front porch. he was hospitalized and later died. hours later, an elderly hispanic woman was taken to the hospital for another package bomb. police believe these are related to an incident on march 2nd. >> we're looking at these being related based on similarities we have seen and the initial evidence we have on hand today. >> scary stuff. investigators say the packages were not delivered by regular mail services. they are asking people to look

out for suspicion packages and not to open anything they're not expecting. police in mountain view are preparing for protests. ann coulter is expected to speak to a conservative group tomorrow evening. >> protests parked her to cancel an event last year in berkley. but this might be different. >> reporter: this is the stage, an auditorium, where ann coulter will speak. what's not known is if or how many might show up outside to support or oppose her often controversial remarks. the event organizer, the liberty forum only knows the title of her speech. >> the title is "in trump we trust." i believe she will be talking a lot about the trump administration and the actions they've taken over the course of their 14 months in office. >> reporter: it will be the first time the comment tater is doing a bay area speech since last year.

protests still happened. about two dozen mountain view officers will be handling the event. private security has been add. the information officer has been monitoring social media. >> it has been pretty quiet in terms of anybody who mentions either protesting or anything of that nature. so we're going to knock on wood and hope that it stays that way. >> reporter: as you can see, mountain view police have already posted no parking signs and there will be traffic restrictions. access will only be provided for residents of the immediate area and those holding tickets. the area is mostly residential. a child care center is next door. the venue is separated by a large parking lot and sidewalk. >> if people want to come and express disagreement with ann, they're welcome to do so but on public property outside. if they do so peaceably, we'll have no problem. >> reporter: david louie, abc7 news. president trump is set to

visit california tomorrow. his main stop will be san diego, where he'll get an up close look at eight designs for the border wall he has been pushing so hard to build. later he'll travel to laos angeles for a fundraiser where guests are paying up to $250,000 to attend. and he'll check out the high-speed rail project. the governor said that california is focussing on bridges, not walls. brown touted the diverse its of t -- diversity of the state and highlighted the fact that california is the sixth largest economy in the world. the statue of christopher columbus is no longer outside city hall. it's been relocated to the italian-american heritage foundation. the city council voted in january to give the italian-american community an opportunity to fine the statue a new home.

the brown berets of san jose started a petition saying columbus committed genocide against native-americans. the transbay center is scheduled for june 15th. the san francisco examiner reports that transit service is expected to start sometime between then and august. the multi-story facility which includes a rooftop park, restaurants and retailers will serve as a hub for ac transit, muni and amtrak. gloomy weather is here. >> looks like we have an active week. >> it's going to get gray irand gloomier. you can see where it's wet right now in the more colorful areas of orange and red indicate steadier rainfall. let's take a look, you can see

showers leaving the city right now. earlier, just a moment ago in fact it was all green here. the showers are traveling across the bay to emeryville and berkley and parts of oakland. a little further south you can see showers down in east in ean -- palo alto. the wet weather is here. this is a view, sort of, from sutro tower. diminished view with the low clouds. oakland, 63. 70 in mountain view, gilroy, 68. a 57 at half moon bay. there are a few raindrops on the lens there. 66 at napa. 72 at fairfield. upper 60s at concord and livermore, and at the golden gate, low clouds and the pavement looks wet. we'll see showers overnight with gu gusty wind from time to time. and this wet, unsettled pattern

will continue into the weekend. our current storm ranks one on the storm impact scale. a storm of light intensity producing light showers. we'll see occasional downpours. winds gusting over 20 miles per hour at times. it will be mild overnight. here's the forecast animation. as the morning commute starts, notice the orange and yellow indicating heavier downpours. it's going to be very wet in the early morning hours and right on through the midday hours before the system starts to fall apart and there will be trailing showers as the system moves eastward. it will produce copious amounts of snow in the see area. going into the rainfall estimates, by tomorrow night, 11:00, most locations can see a quarter of an inch of rain. and novato, nearly an inch.

up in the north bay, most locations will see close to anof rain or more. highs tomorrow will be generally in the upper 50s near the coast. low to mid-60s around the bay and low 60s inland. meanwhile, in the sierra, winter storm warnings until 5:00 wednesday afternoon. we expect generally 12-16 inches of snow above 4,000 feet. you can see that, by, oh, wednesday night, 11:00. look for 10-20 inches in most of the popular locations. here's accuweather seven-day forecast. we have a stronger storm developing on thursday, that one ranks two on the impact scale. it will be stormy still on friday. showers likely on saturday, lingering perhaps into sunday. as you can see, the entire week will feature wet weather. >> grab the umbrellas. find out who decided to make the roof of a bay area amtrak station their home. and hear from experts who

an update now on the deadly helicopter crash in new york city. the chopper went down last night killing five tourists who had chartered that flight to take pictures. >> maggie rulli is on the scene. >> reporter: the ntsb and a dive team are on the scene, vetting how a seemingly normal photo tour around new york city took a tragic turn. as crews pulled the mangled helicopter out of east river. >> mayday, mayday, mayday. engine failure. >> say again? >> engine failure. >> reporter: witnesses caught the horrifying moments on camera as the flipped upside down in

freezing water, killing all five passengers on board. >> one driver in the water. >> reporter: the pilot, 33-year-old rick vance managed to escape. he said a harness got caught around a fuel supply. causing a catastrophic failure. there are questions about how the tourists were strapped in. all four were harnessed so they could take pictures with the door open. but they were so tight rescues struggled to rescue them from the helicopter. >> they don't know how to get out of it. >> reporter: the helicopter was operated by liberty helicopters. its website says it's been flying safely for over 30 years, but faa records show at least two other incidents including one in 2009 that killed nine people. now lawmakers are calling for answer. >> i am calling on the faa to issue an emergency order and

suspend liberty helicopters 135 operating certificate. >> reporter: these types of tours are popular in new york city and helicopters are constantly buzzing up and down the city. police have broken up a homeless camp built by a transient on top of the amtrak station roof. there were reports of someone lowering a bake frike from the station's roof. photoses we photos were taken and the conditions were deemed unsafe. they did not say if the person was cited for trespassing. a warning was issued about an aggressive mountain lion on pescadero. a person said they heard a yelp and they haven't seen their pet since. although they can't confirm a mountain lion attack they have seen reports of recent deadly

live where you live. this is abc 7 news. all right, here is what is making headlines at 4:30. four robbers remain on the run after a series of armed home invasion robberies in petaluma. they were tracked to novato. four were taken into custody. a shelter in place was ordered and it has since been lifted. some mountain view streets are close t closed off ahead of a planned appearance by ann coulter. the conservative commentator is a magnet for catastrophe. a husband of a woman killed in yountville made a statement about his wife. he said the family misses her terribly and appreciates the outpouring of support. she was one of three women killed. many veterans, meantime, are reacting to the tragedy in yountville because the gunman

was a veteran and suffered from post traumatic stress disorder. they're asking people not to jump to conclusions. we spoke with a sipsychology expert. >> reporter: wherever he goes his trusty dog is by his side, she is a service dog helping him with ptsd. >> she helps me tremendously through life, gives me so many tool alleviate any issues before they even come up. >> reporter: wilson served in the army in iraq. his heart fell when he heard veteran albert wong who also suffered from the disorder lashed out shooting three women. he says ptsd should not be blamed for the shooting. >> they flare up and get mad. and then it's over. you know, you're fine. you move past it. you don't sit for two weeks and
