party and was just like horror surrounded the room. >> reporter: did he say anything? >> no, besides just letting us go, saying our names and saying you can go. >> reporter: she ran from the building and called 911. she said three other mental health staffers were not allowed to leave. >> i just hoped that he would also allow them to go. which didn't happen. >> reporter: she recognized the gunman as army vet albert wong who had been discharged from the program two weeks ago. haley can't comment why but knew him well. >> he was just really struggling. he was dealt a really raw deal in life. and had a lot of trauma. >> reporter: the pathway home is a locked facility. she doesn't know how wong got in. she doesn't know why her bosses were targeted. she said they worked closely with albert wong on his rehab.

>> one thing they had in common was they were all so caring and just incredible. >> reporter: in yountville, cornell bernard, abc 7 news. we are also learning more about the three women killed at the pathway home on friday and their deep connections to the surrounding community including napa valley clemg where students and staff are in mourning after losing one of their own, a young psychologist. >> we continue the team coverage from the college. >> reporter: staff and students here are in mourning today as a counselor and psychologist, primarily for veterans, jennifer gonzalez spent three days a week working here at napa valley college. the other two, including friday's, last friday she worked at the home in yountville. >> she had just announced last week that she was pregnant. >> reporter:ly n lynn net cortez

worked side by side. >> she really wanted the best for veterans for for everyone that she worked with. she made me better at my job. really, she just was a great person that just wanted the best for everyone. >> reporter: gonzalez's co-workers have set up a memorial in her honor in the campus veterans center where students and staff can write their own tribute to the vibrant young psychologist. >> what's his name? >> aaron. >> reporter: beyond that, the larger healing effort has begun, including a comfort dog, aaron, a golden retriever, trained to bring peace where there is pain. >> people liked her. she was a very agreeable and enjoyable person. >> reporter: kenneth arnold knew her and christine lobar. >> when we're hearing this happen and the names, it was very impactful. we realized that we were, you know, that there was a tie to the college, and these were people that we new personally.

>> reporter: here's lobar making a presentation to the college board of trustees. at one point she talks passionately about trying to help veterans with ptsd. >> as a program, we don't want to minimize symptoms, we don't want to say oh, you have ptsd and look at the symptoms and minimize them and then you're on your own. >> if we didn't need to work we would still be doing it. just a matter of heart for us. >> reporter: in napa, laura anthony, abc 7 news. >> for the first time today we heard from the family of dr. jennifer goleg. she was married and has a 7-year-old daughter her husband and mother shared their thoughts. >> three was a very beloved mother, sister, daughter, colleague and friend. we appreciate the outpouring of love and support from our saint helena community and outlying communities as well.

and women involved in house raids. >> reporter: in normally placid marin county, the rare sight of a manhunt that was also aftermath. armed officers blocking intersections, looking in tunnels, using dogs, going house to house, all in search of five armed suspects who began the day with attacks on eugenia drive in petaluma. warren purcell lives right next door. >> this location where we're at, just never happens. the worst thing you might see is a turkey get hit as he crosses the road. >> reporter: not this morning. the sonoma county sheriff's office says as many asiniinin suspects went on a rampage. >> it sounds like a group of armed men went door to door to three different residences. at least one man has been tied up and pistol whipped and a

group of men were in search of marijuana. >> reporter: the mos similar to those in santa rosa. one died. the suspects came from out of state before being arrested in vallejo. in this case, the four suspects arrested so far appear to have come from north carolina and again looking for marijuana. >> it's bizarre and frightening that they're going door to door, randomly, trying to rob people for marriage. >> reporte -- marijuana. >> reporter: it makes sonoma county a soft target. how unsettling is that? >> i think it's an overall crime scene that we're going to see, and it's not going to be restricted to nice places or bad places. >> reporter: the suspects remain at large. in marin coty w freedman, abc 7 news. a developing story from the white house. just a short time ago, the president blocked a big tech merger between two chip-making giants.

it allows those from designated countries to live and work here legally for extended periods. if their homeland is facing a crisis like an earthquake or civil war. president trump is doing away with the policy for haiti, el salvador, nicaragua and sudan. they allege that violates the constitutional rights of due process and equal protection. >> the decisions to terminate tps were not based on analysis of country conditions in these countries as the law requires and as all prior administrations have done. instead, they are motivated by racial animus. >> reporter: they point to negotiations over tps earlier this year. where president trump allegedly used a slur to refer to some of the nations he's targeting. the move to terminate tps status would send christina morales, a mother of two who lives in san

video captured the end of the road for the tallest building in the city. construction will start that will house 1500 state employees. aldon smith appeared in court to answer charges on an alleged attack on his fiance. he plead not guilty. san francisco police say the 28-year-old attacked his fiance inside her apartment on march 3rd. he turned himself in to authorities later. the raiders released smith following reports of this alleged incident. i hasn't play he hasn't played for the team since 2015. espn reports smith will plead guilty tomorrow to a felony assault charge and be sentenced to one year in prison. the 30 year old was arrested in pasadena on suspension of assaulting his sister's boyfriend.

a new study looks at the connection between sleep and dementia. researchers say people who are excessively sleepy during the day have a buildup of a pro dean in the brain. and that protein can increase, and it may be an early indicator of alzheimer's, the mayo clinic study is the first that directly addresses the relationship over time of poor sleep and biomarkers for developing alzheimer's. doctors couldn't believe when they found in an mri. a man with part of his brain missing. >> he'd been complaining about falling over a lot but was fine otherwise. so doctors were surprised when scans revealed an air pocket. look at that. behind the man's forehead. a benign sinus tumor was to blame. surgery was risky, so the patient opted tor drufor drugs reduce the risk of a stroke. the symptoms have disappeared and he is totally okay. stay with us. a quick check on a cable and a small bit of history is made. and thanks to abc 7 news
