embarcadero. >> alyssa harrington begins our team coverage. >> reporter: this is the moment that hundreds of student san francisco school of the arts. >> this could happen anywhere. this could happen to any student. how is it a learning environment when i'm afraid i'm going to get killed. >> reporter: protesters called for tighter gun control, including a bang on assault weapons. they spread their message through song, and through performance art. >> we're just asking to be alive. it takes only seconds to die. >> at the mercy of. >> one finger on a trigger. >> reporter: mayor mark ferrell showed his support at the walkout. he called it inspiring to stand in solidarity with students and communities impacted by gun violence. >> we're not getting it out of the nra and congress, we're going to have to do it at the local level. >> reporter: the protest continued on the steps of city hall.

high school and sacred heart school. >> sky 7 was over berkeley high school when students came out for a rainy remembrance of the victims of gun violence. >> college students also marched today at santa clara university. >> how they plan to get lawmakers to tackle gun control. >> protect kids, not guns! >> reporter: students who organized this march believe the outcry after parklands has had a profound impact on gun control advocates. >> this isn't the biggest shooting, but reaction is up. >> reporter: about 400 students participated in a half hour march which included a walk through benson center. what's clearly different about college activism is that these

administrators say their students are demanding action from their lawmakers to combat gun violence nationwide. >> here are some of the posts you've shared with us and there are many. post pictures of your experience on social media using the #walkoutbayarea. we could feature them on air and online. at san mateo high school, parents were really scared when a message threatening to shoot students was found on a bathroom wall. leslie brinkley is live at the school, leslie, the school is also closed tomorrow, right? >> reporter: that's right, classes are cancelled tomorrow, that after a three-hour lockdown today, three hours of students huddled under desks, urgently sendi ining text messages to th parents about the threat?

parents converged on san leandro high school and confronted the principal after getting urgent messages. >> my daughter texts me at 9:50 that the school was on lockdown because somebody threatened to shoot the school up at 1:00 p.m. today. >> i was under my desk. >> i was in compton and i got word that there was a violent picture going around. >> reporter: police say that the graffiti was sprawled on a bathroom wall, saying i'm shooting the school tomorrow, better not come. a lockdown ensued as the school was searched. >> there was kids that were hungry, we felt dehydrated and we just couldn't leave. >> i was crying. i was having anxiety earlier, but i calmed myself down. >> there was no violence, there were no guns found, there's no indication of any sort of threat that took place or that will take place. >> reporter: but as a precaution, san leandro high school will be closed tomorrow.

said she was leaving a swimming pool in hayward when officers opened fire on the car she was riding. police attempted to arrest the driver of the car, but when the driver tried to get away, the officers fired at the car killing mondragon. >> it's a struggle every single day, without seeing her little smirk of a smile. it's hard. >> the alameda county district attorney recently cleared the fremont officers and charged the driver with causing mondragon's death. home surveillance video helped police arrest a peeping tom. the victim had reported seeing the suspect peeping into her window two weeks ago. after the incident, she installed security cameras in the yard. he returned and was captured on

video. more legal trouble for palo alto based theranos. >> reporter: elizabeth holmes a stanford dropout who was once called the next steve job is now being accused by the freshman government of massive fraud. she was leading t testing theranos. she agreed to pay a $500,000 fine. holmes is seen here with vice president biden in 2015, she's now barred from serving as an officer of a company for 15 years. the sec says homes, theranos and the company's president misled the government for years about its blood letting technology. the veterans home makes a

a sad announcement today about the veterans treatment program where three mental health workers were killed on friday. officials from the pathway house say the home is closing down in the wake of the tragedy. cornel brown is live in yountville with the story. >> reporter: we can say that the town of yountville will hold a community gathering tonight here at the community hall behind me, a chance for the community to come together and talk about last week's tragedy and try and heal. and as you said, we have learned that the treatment center where the shooting happened will close it's doors. >> i think it's a mistake.

>> reporter: veterans are reacting to news that pathway home, the unique program treating vets with ptsd is closing in the wake of friday's tragedy. >> we're without a staff, we're without a building and our guys are in the care of other organizations. >> reporter: the spokesman said the board of pathway home had no choice, the treatment center remains offlimits, as it is still a crime scene as three women were killed by veteran albert wong who had been removed from the program recently. >> our commitment, especially in the prem memory of our friends and colleagues that were lost on friday, our mission is to continue serving the military veterans that need the kind of services that pathway had provided. >> reporter: pathway home still supervising care of the veterans. >> for right now, it's an excellent decision, because they want to focus on the six members

that are still part of the program. >> i'm aware it's a program and i'm aware of the need to have the program. >> reporter: directors can't say if the program will one day return to the veterans home campus. >> there are a lot of questions that are still unanswered about the future of the program but we know the need is there. >> reporter: the napa county coroner will release his report on thursday on how the three women lost their lives. crews who fought the wine country fires last summer will soon learn if they'll be fighting the toxic effects of those flames in their own bodies. the firefighters union is now examining blood samples for more than 180 responders, they're looking for dangerous metals and cancer causing chemicals that fire crews may have ingested for the motor vehicle, in part because of their equipment was geared for wildfires instead of burning buildings.
