we'll tell you who is switching off the web in favor of peace and quiet. and we do say good morning, everybody, on this thursday and we're going to start with a problem that's not going away for president trump. >> there's new evidence a second lawyer with ties to the president is now linked to the scandal involving adult film star stormy daniels. >> that new evidence stems from a lawsuit meant to keep daniels silent about that alleged affair with the president. abc's tara palmeri joins us from washington now with the new details we're getting overnight. good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning, kendis and diane. that's right. the white house has tried to distance the president from is efforts to silence the adult film star but new documents show a connection between a trump organization lawyer. overnight, documents provided to abc news marked highly confidential reveal new connections between the trump organization and legal efforts to silence an adult film star.

stormy daniels claims she had an affair with the president more than a decade ago. daniels has called the $130,000 nondisclosure agreement she signed for her money hush money. the white house and his personal attorney tried to distance the president from the pact signed days before the election. >> there was no knowledge of any payments from the president and he denied all of these allegations. >> reporter: cohen said he used his personal funds to pay many daniels, but a restrain order filed against daniels for breaking her agreement draws another line to the president because it's sign the by trump organization lawyer jill martin. martin said in a statement that she helped with the filing in, quote, her individual capacity and added, the company has had no involvement in the matter. earlier daniels said she would wire the $130,000 back to the president to break the nondisclosure agreement. the president had one day to accept the offer. she's called the agreement null and void because then candidate donald trump never signed it.

>> why is that so important? is she trying to sell her story? >> she's not trying to sell her story and she wants to set the record straight. this is about the truth and about a search for the truth. >> reporter: this could be a long battle. stormy daniels has launched an online fund-raiser to help cover her legal bills while she fights to tell her story. diane, kendis. >> and it is quite a story she does have. tara palmeri in d.c., thank you. president trump is taking credit for the special congressional results in pennsylvania even though it appears the democrat is the likely winner. conor lamb is maintaining a 627-vote lead. republicans are considering a recount and a possible legal battle. but president trump was quoted last night saying lamb only won because he agrees with the president on several key issues and sounded like a republican. "the washington post" reports president trump now admits to making up facts during a recent meeting with the canadian prime minister justin trudeau. "the post" reports the president made the admission during a fund-raising speech overnight saying he told true due that the

u.s. runs a trade deficit with canada but he actually didn't know whether it's true or not. on another headline out of the administration the president appointed cnbc commentator larry kudlow as his chief economic adviser. he replaces gary cohn who protested tariffs on steel and aluminum imports. former deputy director of the fbi is scheduled to retire on sunday but he may be fired first before he is eligible for his full pension. that's because of an internal report that found andrew mccabe misled investigators. justice officials are recommending he be fired. it's up to jeff sessions. sources say sessions typically follows such recommendations from his staff. the british government is getting support from the u.s. in its dispute with russia over the poisoning of a former spy. the prime minister theresa may has ordered 23 russian diplomats to leave the uk. that's the toughest

since the cold war era and she says she has no doubt russia is responsible for the attack on a former spy in england as well as his daughter and u.n. ambassador nikki haley at the u.n. agreed and warned if chemical weapons can be used in england, they can be used in new york calling this case a defining moment for the united nations. >> time and time again, member states say they oppose the use of chemical weapons under any circumstance. now one member stands accused of using chemical weapons on the sovereign soil of another member. the credibility of this council will not survive if we fail to hold russia accountable. >> hours after haley blasted russia, the white house issued a statement agreeing that russia is responsible for the nerve agent attack saying that incident follows a pattern of behavior by russia. surveillance video from the school shooting in parkland,

is florida, is expected to be released to the public today. >> it comes a day after students across the country staged a walkout demanding tougher gun laws. >> and now congress passed a school safety bill but many students say it's not enough. [ chanting ] students from more than 3,000 schools nationwide flooded out of their classrooms demanding action against guns summing up their message in one word, "enough." student leaders are calling for action from parkland, florida. >> even though it happened in our community, it affects the whole country. we all just want to feel safe in our schools. >> reporter: to newtown, connecticut. >> sitting in lockdown literally scared for me and my sibling's life, i don't think anyone should have to go through it and the fact we have gone through it so many times since that is just unacceptable. >> reporter: as the protesters gathered, the nra tweeted this picture of an assault rifle with the message i'll control my own guns, thank you. meanwhile, on capitol hill the house approved $500 million for school safety improvements including training teachers and students on how to prevent

violence, but the bill does not address changes to any gun laws. the senate is considering a similar measure. adding to the debate two incidents of shots mistakenly fired inside schools by adults who were supposed to protect students. a school resource officer in virginia misfired a gun on tuesday and in california, three students were injured when a teacher accidentally fired a shot into the ceiling during a lesson on gun safety. >> i looked at my shirt like that and there is like blood on my shirt and then i like wiped my neck kind of and a bullet fragment comes off my neck. >> reporter: the teacher is on leave. meanwhile, the student protesters are looking ahead to the march for our lives event in washington a week from saturday. organizers say star singers ariana grande, jennifer hudson, miley cyrus and demi lovato will join them demanding action on guns and oprah winfrey, george clooney and steven spielberg have also donated money for that march. >> time for a look at your weather for this thursday

morning. hard to believe it but the northeast is bracing for a possible fourth nor'easter in less than three weeks as a march chill stretches all the way down to the gulf coast states with freeze warnings again for the southeast, windchills in some areas below freezing in the west, storms moving into the sierra mountains bringing potentially severe storms across the south ahead of another western system that could eventually turn into the fourth storm for the northeast. coming up, the breaking news overnight about toys "r" us. but first a new revelation about the $31,000 dining room set that housing secretary ben carson wanted for his office as new e-mails come to light. and later, another mishap if for united airlines just a day after a dog died on a flight. the airline mistakenly sent another dog to japan. we hav

we're back with new video of a navy fighter jet crash off key west. two crew members managed to eject but did not survive. they were on a training mission and navy investigators are now there on the scene trying to figure out exactly what caused that crash. we're also getting a look at a rescue operation that played out in vermont for six soldiers hit by an avalanche. the national guard says the soldiers were taking part in a training mission at the time. rescue crews worked for more than an hour to bring them to safety. well, it's official. toys "r" us is shutting down its u.s. operations. overnight they filed a plan to liquidate its inventory and close all 735 stores. some of its international operations may survive, however. but most of the 33,000 employees will soon being looking for new

jobs. the woman once called the golden girl of silicon valley is paying up after being accused in a massive fraud. elizabeth holmes once billed as is the next steve jobs started the blood testing company theranos but she's accused of defrauding investors out of more than $700,000 by lying about the company's technology and now settled with regulators for half a million dollars. we're hearing some new details about the $31,000 dining set for the office of housing secretary ben carson. documents obtained by a watchdog group seem to contradict claims by carson that the decision to purchase the dining table was handled by his subordinates. in a message last summer hud's administrative officer referred to, quoting here, printouts of the furniture the secretary and mrs. carson picked out. meanwhile, there's word this morning that the special phone booth built for epa administrator scott pruitt cost more than first disclosed. documents show it cost $43,000 to build that soundproof phone

after it mistakenly put this dog irgo on a 12-hour flight to japan. cara swindell was with her family but when she got to the cargo facility to pick up her german shepherd, she was given a great dane instead. >> he was probably so scared and freaked out. >> reporter: she says the airline said the dogs were accidentally put into the wrong travel kennels. irgo will fly back first class to kansas. united's apology for this mistake comes after the tragic death of this puppy kokito on a flight from houston to new york on monday. >> he is a member of our family. >> reporter: the family and other passengers said the flight attendant demanded the puppy's carry-on case be moved from under the seat in front of them into the overhead bin. >> we're like it's a dog, it's a dog and she's like, it doesn't matter. you still have to put it up this there. she took him out andpened the thing and got the dog, and he was dead. >> reporter: united says their flight attendant, quote, did not hear or understand there was a

dog in the bag and did not knowingly place the dog in the overhead bin. united airlines says they'll start issuing bright colored bag tags for customers who are traveling with a pet inside the cabin. that way as soon as a flight attendant sees the tag, they're going to know an animal is inside that bag. we've also just heard from united airlines. they say they have fully refunded the family's plane tickets as well as the pet fees. it's not clear if that's going to be enough. linsey davis, abc news, laguardia. the parents of a worker at the democratic national committee who was killed in 2016 are now accusing fox news of exploiting their son's murder. joel and mary rich are suing fox, a reporter and a republican donor who they say were behind a false story. the article claimed their son seth had leaked dnc e-mails to wikileaks during the presidential campaign. >> i want the people who started the lies who are responsible for the lies held accountable. this has got to stop.

>> now, fox news did eventually retract the story about a week later, but the rich family says fox never apologized, and their son's reputation has been tarnished forever. a pennsylvania man is charged with murdering his wife after making a confession to a priest. police say john grazioli admitted to the crime while speaking with reverend michael polinek inside a cathedral inin erie. the reverend then locked down the church and called 911. the roman catholic law forbids priests from telling authorities about the content of a confession but the reverend says he did not feel that it was a formal confession. it took place in the rectory, not in a confessional and did not formally ask for the sacrament. many a photo admitted being doctored that showed retired pope benedict's letter sent to pope francis. the vatican claimed it praised a new volume of books about

francis and his theology but a vatican official now admits they blurred the two final lines of the first page where benedict explains he didn't actually read the books. in medical news some encouraging research in the fight against dementia. a new study found women who are highly fit in middle age are 90% less likely to develop dementia in later life. researchers say the small study could not prove exercise prevents dementia but does show that excellent cardiovascular health can lower the risk. all right, so you only have a matter of hours to fill in your march madness bracket before the action tips off around midday today. syracuse became the last team to qualify for the field of 64 last night by winning a thriller against arizona state. the cameras caught people trying to comfort this young arizona state fan. >> oh. >> yeah. not happy with the results. so he's like the flute girl this year. up next in "the pulse" netflix is under fire this morning for a mow prognosis targeting kids who binge. also ahead, why miley cyrus is facing a $300 million copyright suit.

on surface streets. san pablo at kirk lane. report of a two-car crash. one of the vehicles flipped over. it's not really impacting a main interstate. it is a ways off interstate 80. but i will keep an eye on that. hopefully traffic is moving through okay. they have dispatched emergency crews to the scene. we'll look at light drive times coming up next. >> thank you, alexis. the san francisco police commission approved guidelines for police taser use. it is more restrictive than what the officers' association was hoping for. >> amy hollyfield is live for us at sfpd headquarters with next. >> reporter: as a taser device or weapon, the police commission voted that it is a weapon. the commission also changed some language on when an officer can use a taser. they can use it when a person is violently resisting arrest instead of actively. these changes are important.

the school tomorrow. i'm sick of this. better not come. >> 4:29 now. let's get an update on weather and traffic starting with meteorologist mike nicco. hey, mike. >> hey guys. never more than seven minutes away from your accuweather forecast. let's start with the storm impact scale today and tomorrow. waves of showers and snow possible down to 3500 feet and a chance of lightning and hail. here's a look at what's going on again. you can see right up in mendocino county and parts north, rain to snow already. as far as our accuweather 12-hour planner, our best chance of being wet will be across the north bay. driest. heading towards noon, the showers spread, become widespread from noon to 4:00. by 7:00, you'll need an umbrella. temperatures still below average today after starting in the 30s and 40s. barely low to mid-50s most of the afternoon. temperatures in the 40s by 7:00. let get another update on that commute. here's
