thursday, march 15th. thanks for making time for us. >> we're glad you're waking up with us. we're pretty quiet right now. nice to see, mike. >> it's going to be a nice commute. still a few damp spots. but for the most part, a pretty dry morning. that will change throughout the day. hi everybody. let's start with the storm impact scale and give you an idea of what to expect today and tomorrow. waves of showers and breezy at times. snow is possible down to 3500 feet and a chance of lightning and hail across the north bay much the rest of us tomorrow.

you can see storms starting to encroach upon the north bay. that's where they'll mainly be throughout the hours. they'll be widespread by noon into the evening hours keeping us in the 50s once again after starting chilly in the 30s and 40s. here's someone who knows how to use a heater. >> i did. i cranked it up at home and in my car. extra chilly. likely you're going to have more of the same. we don't have issues on the roads. checking on an incident. westbound 580 before eden canyon road, a semi and sedan collided about 30 minutes ago. that smaller vehicle went up on the shoulder. i am keeping an eye on that. a quick check of the south bay. san jose, highway 87 around the airport, we're looking at dry pavement and no issues. thank you, alexis. developing news from san jose state.

police are looking for more victims of a man accused of multiple sexual assaults. >> matt keller is live on campus with information about the student police arrested. matt? >> reporter: good morning, reggie and natasha. university police say the suspect lived here at campus village a on campus at san jose state and the crimes were committed here as well. we're waiting to see approximate there are more witnesses or possibly more survivors related to this investigation. the suspect is 21-year-old luis -- a fourth year san jose state student. the investigation started on march 3rd when they were contacted by one of the survivors. police learned of one or two additional survivors. they say he and the victims knew each other. he was charged with sexual assault, assault with the intent to commit sex crimes, false imprisonment and sexual battery. he's in jail on $210,000 bail. he's scheduled for a court appearance later this morning. reporting live at san jose

state, matt keller, abc 7 news. >> thanks, matt. thousands of young people vowing to build on the gun violence. >> yesterday classes stopped across the country as high school students walked out in solidarity against violence one month after the parkland, florida, school shooting rampage. another protest is scheduled in washington on march 24th. organizers say it's expected to draw hundreds of thousands of people. another school walkout is planned to mark next month's anniversary of the columbine high school shooting nearly 20 years ago. >> in washington, the house of representatives passed the first school safety measure since the parkland massacre. lawmakers approved of the stop school violence act by a vote of 407-10 yesterday. that bill authorizes $75 million a year to fund security training and purchase items like metal detectors, stronger locks and

new communication technology for campuses. navy investigators are trying to determine the cause of a jet crash that killed two crew members on board. it happened off the coast of key west. an f-18 -- was on approach to land and crashed into the water about a mile east of the runway. the pilot and the weapons systems officer managed to eject. they were recovered by later died. president trump has tweeted his condolences. president trump apparently lied during a recent meeting with canadian prime minister justin trudeau. an audio obtained by the "washington post," the president boasted that he made up facts about a trade deficit. he said the u.s. runs a deficit without knowing if it was true. trade officials say the u.s. has a trade surplus with canada. the president also bragged about his decision to meet with north korean leader kim jong-un saying, quote, nobody would have done what i did. in yountville, a community

finding strength together. it's been a week since -- abc news reporter kate larsen has details. >> reporter: in yountville, the community greeted each other with hugs. some came with friends and families. others came alone with a bouquet of flowers and balloons. >> i brought balloons, i brought three red balloons because they're for love. the three women who passed away. i brought a pink one for the unborn baby that passed away with the mother and the white roses are for insurance. >> >> reporter: with no schedule or agenda, about 100 people gathered just to talk and heal. >> i think there's a real mixture of feelings. >> dick tiff lives at the veterans home and came hoping to get more information about the shooting committed by albert wong who was recently removed from a ptsd program. >> the more people talk, the more rumors get started. the rumors are pretty rampant.

>> napa county sheriff john robertson was here and he told me he hopes the empathy and compassion from the community continues. local firefighters also joined the meeting. >> that's the number one thing we're trying to do, get everything back to normal. we don't want to forget the three ladies that lost their lives. >> christine loeber, jennifer gonzalez shushereba and jennifer golick were killed where they were trying to help. now pathway home is closed indefinite indefinitely. in youptville, kate larsen. beginning at 6:00 p.m. at napa valley performing arts center at lincoln theater. crews who fought the fire -- a study by the firefighters union is examining blood samples from nearly 180 responders. they're looking for dangerous metals and potentially cancer causing chemicals that fire crews may have ingested from the smoke. in part, because their equipment

was geared for wildfires instead of burning buildings. >> these firefighters are exposed to the same contaminants that urban structural firefighters are exposed to but with a lower level of personal protective equipment. >> researchers at the university of california are helping with the analysis. the union told a meeting at the fire commission that it expects to have preliminary results to present by the middle of next month. neighbors in berkeley could weigh in on the prospect of building housing at the b.a.r.t. system. there's been a push lately to use that space near transit centers for affordable housing. what has not been addressed is where the cars go that currently use that lot to park. let's talk about temperatures. look at mt. diablo at 3800 feet. it's 29 degrees. that says a couple of things. if any showers develop before the sun comes up, may dust it

with some snow. i think they're going to stay to the north bay. it's cold enough in the middle parts of the atmosphere for hail again today. let's look at temperatures. look at the san ramon valley from 36 in danville. we've got san ramon, dublin, pleasanton. pleasant hill at 37. livermore at 39. concord out to brentwood, around 42 to 44 degrees. anybody else that cool? up in the north bay. we've got mid to upper 30s santa rosa. novato, napa. 36 in vallejo. san francisco 45. san carlos and hayward at 41. here's a look at 87 near mineta san jose international. this evening, get ready for bet commute. cool this morning but wet likely if you're taking mass transit in the afternoon and evening hours. rainy at times on the bay. highs today range from about 49 lakeport, 51 in ukiah. the cool spots there. 54 to 58 degrees for the rest of us. here's a look at the north bay.

starting at 8:00, all the way through 8:00, my 12-hour planner, you have a chance of rain. temperatures in the 40s until noon. barely in the 50s this afternoon. back in the 40s by 8:00. san francisco 48 with scattered showers at 8:00. off and on showers and low 50s through the evening hours. tomorrow morning, not as cold as this morning. still a chill out there. upper 30s in the north bay. taking a look at the accuweather seven day forecast, find a dry day. that's coming up. it's quiet this morning, too, mike. here's a live look at golden gate bridge. we had a couple problems yesterday from the north bay. today we're incident-free for that commute. southbound across gold ep gate bridge, you should not have any trouble over slowdowns through that stretch. bay bridge toll plaza starting to fill in. we've got, give or take ten minutes until the metering lights flip on and things back up into the maze.

there on to the streets. and amy hollyfield, our reporter is on the scene gathering more details. we'll check in with her shortly. back to you. >> thank you, jessica. three armed robbery suspects are in custody after a wild pursuit that had san francisco police cars driving on sidewalks near at&t park. here's the video. police cruisers drove around the ballpark and on the promenade along the embarcadero yesterday. officers searched the area around delancey street. they captured three suspects. investigators believe there are no other suspects on the loose. it's 5:14 now. in gma first look, the family of a former dnc staffer is suing fox news because of a discredited report about his death. >> they intentionally inflicted emotional distress on the family. >> fox is responsible for the hell they've created. >> for the first time joel and mary rich sharing their story,

we'll play it in slow motion and shame you. >> there's more chances to do dumb things in the snow as a winter storm warning begins at 5:00 this evening through 5:00 saturday morning and up to 6 feet of snow possible. we're seeing the first signs of that storm come ashore. you can see around sea ranch ft. ross, cloverdale, ukiah and guerneville and heelsburg. in the next half hour, you'll be wet before everybody else. few storms off the coast. there's a slight chance we could have some across the north bay today. here's a look at the big picture. the low spinning up to the north yanking down all that cold air. this is a cold core system. that's why we're likely to have hail again. very pea-sized hail and thunderstorms more likely tomorrow. 680 as we look south from walnut creek, periods of showers through at least saturday. chance of thunderstorms, that spreads tomorrow. dry weather for sure sunday and

valley boulevard, we had a three-car collision, a semi involved and a couple smaller vehicles. sounds like they have cleared that semi out of the area. just ran up on the hillside. it never was blocking any lanes. it's something to keep an eye on this morning. richmond side of the richmond-san rafael bridge. you're looking great. overall, drive times looking good too. highway 4 to the maze. another ten into san francisco and no delays if you head out of the city and towards the airport today. alexis, thanks. 5:20 now. in a galaxy not far away, george lucas broke ground for his long awaited museum. the museum of narrative art. the $1.5 billion project is being built in los angeles at exposition park next to his film school and alma mater, usc. lucas and his wife originally planned to build it in san francisco. we almost had it. and they committed to economy at one point. the couple could not reach an

morning. now breaking news. we continue tracking breaking news of a chp chase that ended in a crash in san pablo right along the border of the richmond city limits. a car actually took out a fire hydrant. we saw that water gush into the air for quite a long time. abc news reporter amy hollyfield is on the scene. amy, things look better now. >> the water just stopped spewing jessica, but it was such a sight. we have to show it to you. let's roll the video when we pulled up in san pablo. just a huge tower of water shooting into the air. it caused a lot of flooding out here. it's quite a mess actually. there's flooding in the food max parking lot and san pablo avenue. water is not the only issue either. there's a light pole that came down. a tree came down. we have crashed cars here in the road. so they've got a lot to clean up. the chp tells us this started as

a pursuit on the freeway in the oakland area and then ended here. san pablo police are on the scene but they refuse to give any details. the sergeant says they captain tell us if anyone is hurt. any details about this water. although they did just get it shut down. if any arrests were made. all we know is san pablo avenue is closed. you want to avoid this area in front of the casino. food max on the other side of the street. this is shut down. they have crews working on the situation. getting it cleaned up. looks like this could be shut down for a while. still a wrecked car here and downed light pole. quite an explosive wreck that happened here. hard to tell what hit first. but boy whrks it hit that high drapt, is set off a chain of events and a huge mess. reporting live in san pablo, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. thank you, amy. classes are canceled at san leandro high school because of a

shooting threat on campus. the message was scrawled on the bathroom wall yesterday. students and parents panicked as the school was put on lockdown for three hours. san leandro police secured the campus. police say the message said i'm shooting the school tomorrow. i'm sick of this. better not come. >> it's 5:33 now. a criminal investigation has been launched into the death of a dog on a united airlines flight. that investigation coming as we're learning of another incident. united accidentally shipping a woman's dog to japan instead of kansas. >> he's probably so scared and freaked out. probably hurting too because he doesn't have his medicine now either. >> passenger says she was given a great dane instead of her dog. the german shepherd. united said the dogs were accidentally put into the wrong kennels. it comes hours after the death of a french bulldog. the bag that he was in had to be stowed in the overhead bin. >> she took him out and opened

the thing and got the dog. animal cruelty task force could file charges based on the findings of the investigation. meantime, united says it will begin issuing brightly colored tags to customers. so that flight attendants could easily recognize the pets. >> r.i.p. toys "r" us has officially told employees it is closing or selling all 800 stores in the u.s. the store at the plant in san jose was one of 180 marked for closure in january. news that all of the stores will be closing was almost too much to bear for parents who wanted their kids to grow up as toys "r" us kids like we did. >> i wanted that tradition of bringing my son to the toy store to play with the toys. now he can't do that. >> actually the surprise. going there my whole life as a kid and every gift you wanted came from toys "r" us pretty much. >> retail experts say the toy

industry will struggle in the short-term. but mom and pop toy shops will ultimately fill the void. there's no word from toys "r" us as to when the closures will happen. we're talking about 0,000 jobs nationwide. >> uc regents expected to increase tuition for thousands of out of state students. the 3.5% hike would add thousand dollars to the tuition that is paid and bring tuition and fees to $40,000 a year. it's expected to raise nearly $35 million. the regents say they may raise tuition for california residents if state lawmakers don't give the university more money. two undocumented farm workers are dead after their car overturned trying to escape immigration agents in kern county. the man and woman were killed when the suv crashed into a utility pole in delano tuesday morning. the man matched the skpripgs de of a wanted person. turns out he was not the warranted person. >> the chase started when they

tried to contact the driver and he sped off. officials say the man was convicted in 2014 of driving under the influence. the woman had no prior encounters with i.c.e. they leave behind six children. happening today, a san francisco jury is expected to begin deliberations in the case of a police officer known as the hot cop of the castro. christopher coors is charged in a hit-and-run crash in north beach. two men were seriously hurt in the crash. his lawyer argued that coors ran because he was in danger from a mob that had gathered to recognized him. prosecutors contend he ran to avoid a blood alcohol test. a vote to ban fur sales in fran is set to happen next week. the examiner says the supervisor's committee is moving the legislation forward despite opposition from stores. business leaders say it could lead to job and tax revenue loss because shoppers will go outside the city. officials say the attorney's office suggested the ban would each apply to online purchases for delivery to san francisco addresses.

the trump organization and trying to silence stormy daniels. daniels has called the $130,000 nondisclosure agreement she signed for her silence hush money. the white house and trump's personal attorney michael cohen have tried to distance the president from the pact signed days before the election. cohen said he used his personal funds to pay daniels. a restraining order against daniels for breaking her agreement draws another line to the president because it's signed by trump organization lawyer jill martin. earlier this week, daniels said she would wire the $130,000 back to the president to break the nondisclosure agreement. the president had one day to accept the offer. she's called it null and void because then candidate donald trump never signed it. >> why is that so important? is she trying to sell her story? >> she's not trying to sell her story. she wants to set the record straight. it's about the truth, about a search for the truth. >> this could be a very long battle.
