and natasha. we'll start with a storm impact scale. give you an idea of what to expect. periods of showers with local breezes. local downpours. even lightning and hail possible today and tomorrow. here's our current look at live doppler 7 next to the storm on mt. st. helena. it's moving off to the east. the north bay will be wet during the morning commute especially from petaluma northward. the rest of us, check it out on the east bay hills cameras. pretty quiet out there. it's much colder. our coldest morning with mid-30s to low 40s. we'll stay in the low to mid-50s until the afternoon hours with more showers spreading down to the south bay. they'll hang around during the evening commute which will be a little wetter than this morning. speaking of the commute, let's go to alexis. >> this is in point reyes station area. it's fully closed. it was tdue to stay fatal crash. chp is saying it should be

another hour before they have everything back open. so if you are heading through that area, you will have to use a detour. in the meantime, everybody else pretty quiet this morning. very few incidents and we're looking at a typical commute for drivers trying to get through the bay bridge toll plaza. metering lights on. -- no other issues into san francisco. now, breaking news from the abc 7 live desk. >> more on the breaking news we've been tracking. will a car chase that ended in this. excuse me. it's a giant mess there on the streets. you can see a fire hydrant spilling water on to the streets in san pablo. this was about half an hour ago at san pablo and kirk lane. the water is shut off. still cleanup under way. we've learned a few details, specifically about the driver. this is through officers in oakland where the car chase began. chp is saying the driver was a 24-year-old man. he was driving erratically, hit numerous cars before hitting this hydrant.

a light pole also has been knocked down there. the driver of the car was hospitalized with injuries. no word on if there were any other injuries or exactly how otny property, how many othe crhear hit. how much damage there is. this is stillopg story. 6:02 now. developing news from san jose state. they're looking for more possible victims other tha n a assaults. >> matt keller is live on campus with information about the st pteneicolarrested. matt? >> reporter: reggie, obviously, disturbing. especially since all of the crimes allegedly took place here in campus housing. the suspect in this case is now being held in santa clara county jail. 21-year-old luis -- he's being held on -- he lived in campus village a. the investigation started on march 3rd when contacted by one of the survivors. police eventually learned of two additional victims in this case.

investigators say the victims knew each other. he was arrested march 5th. he was charged with sexual assault, false i mprisonment an sexual battery. other potential witnesses and survivors. matt keller, abc 7 news. >> thank you, matt. thousands of young building on the momentum of a protest against gun violence. >> started with the student -- >> yesterday classes stopped across the country as high school students walked in solidarity against violence one month after the parkland, florida, shooting rampage. another one is scheduled in washington on march 24th. organizers say it's expected to draw hundreds of thousands of people. another school walkout is planned to mark next month's anniversary of the columbine high school shooting nearly 20 years ago. a handful of students in san francisco were blocked from

leaving campus during the walkout. according to the examiner, while the school held a 17-minute vigil to honor the florida shooting victims, four students were not allowed to take part in that 10:00 a.m. walkout by the principal of the school. the district confirms the incident saying the principal and assistant principal simply persuaded the students to come back. one parent says their kids should have been allowed to walk out. in washington, the house of representatives passed the first school safety measure since the parkland massacre. lawmakers overwhelmingly approved it by a vote of it's to fund security training and purchasing items like metal detectors, stronger locks and new communication technology for campuses. about 100 people yountville with pun purpose. >> they greeted each other hugs.

one woman carried a bouquet of flowers and balloons. >> i bought three red balloons because they're for love. the three women who passed away. i brought a little pink one for the unborn baby that passed way with the mother. of course, the white roses are for innocence. >> there's no schedule or agenda. it was just people talking trying to understand why veteran albert wong killed three women at a veterans home. all three victims worked at the home called the pathway house, which is now closed indefinitely. a public memorial for the three victims will take place monday, march 19th beginning at 6:00 p.m. at napa valley performing arts center at lincoln theater. a study backed by the san francisco firefighters union is examining blood samples from 180 responders. they're looking for dangerous metals and potentially cancer-causing kem rals that fire crews may have ingested from the smoke. in part, because their equipment

38 menlo park. everybody else 40 to 46 degrees. definitely cooler than yesterday. low to mid-40s on the east bay shore. 36 in los gatos and san ramon. napa 34 degrees from the cool spots. here's a look at the drive. 101 and 880. now the roads more likely going to be wet for the evening commute. it's cool this morning. dry for mass transit. wet and chilly this evening. around the bay, it's going to be rainy at times. highs today, mainly around 54 to 58 degrees. near 50 up around lakeport. tonight, not quite as cold. still a chill in the air. north bay, upper 30s in the low to mid-40s. notice the rain continues in the overnight hours. more on that coming up. first alex problem? >> a minor collision east of the tollbooths on westbound 80. if you look up on the far right, i think we see a tow truck backing up there. it sounds like a semi and smaller vehicle were involved.

updating you on breaking news out of oakland. there's a search going on for a

woman who may have gone missing in lake merritt. sky 7 over the scene showing you where this is happening. near hanover and lakeshore avenue where a search and rescue crew is out there diving into the water to find this missing person. oakland fire officials say witnesses heard a woman's voice calling for help. about 4:30 this morning. about an hour and a half ago. when police arrived, they found a man in the water. that man was pulled out and rushed to a hospital. at this point, police are not sure if a woman was really inside the water, but they're conducting a very thorough search just in case there's still someone out there. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield arrived on the scene. she's working to get an update. we'll have a live report at 6:30. navy investigators are trying to determine the cause of a jet crash that killed two crew members on board. this happened yesterday afternoon off the coast of key west. an fa-18 super hosh et wa e

set to land and it crashed a mile east of the runway. the pilot and weapons system officer ejected and were recovered but both later died. president trump has tweeted his condolences. several automakers are being sued over allegations that they knew about problems with takata airbags but waited years to issue recalls. documents from previous legal actions against general motors, volkswagen, fiat and mer aids and chrysler. they say they knew about it but didn't take action. they claim the car owners paid higher prices for the vehicles than if the deficit was closed. at least 22 people have died from the exploding airbags with another 200 people hurt. some injured veterans are hitting the slopes thanks to a program called military to the mountains. the organization september us this video. 22 veterans are currently in the middle of a trip to ski and stay at squaw valley, alpine meadows.

the timing is pretty good. it's to provide vets who suffered severe injuries to take part in outdoor sports. >> it's wonderful. want to get to alexis with a check of traffic. >> we have a lot of snow in the sierra right now. i'll have more on the toyota tahoe report momentarily. if you're beginning your commute, we're looking at smooth driving conditions. no major issues with the exception of this spot in point reyes station. it was closed for a fatal crash and investigation. they were saying likely 7:00 a.m. until it can get state route 1 open. it did cancel the sig-alert. i did see some flashing lights here on westbound 80 just before you get to the bay bridge toll plaza. but it does not look like any lanes are blocked. if you look to the right of the toll plaza approaching the tollbooths, this was a minor crash. shouldn't have a major delay. let's check in with mike nicco with a look at the forecast. hey, mike.

>> thanks, alexis. we'll start by looking at live doppler 7. zoomed in on the north bay, that's where we have light raining falling right now. this is going to be the best area for light rain during the morning commute. as you can see, not much going on south of that. that will change as we get deeper into the forecast as this cold core low will pump in this unstable air. thunderstorms likely today and tomorrow. here's a look at a dry golden gate bridge. much different from last time. showers through saturday. my highlights, chance of thunderstorms spreads more so tomorrow and dry weather for at least sunday and monday. here's a look at how today unfolds. 7:00 this morning, mainly the north bay. but easily after the 9:00 hour through noon, you can see showers spreading all the way down into the south bay and the monterey bay. it just continues. the yellow signifies brief downpours, locally gusty winds and small hail mixing in. it continues during the evening commute. even during the overnight hours. that will keep temperatures milder than what we're dealing

with this morning. noon tomorrow, yeah, isolated. same thing during the evening hours friday. as we head overnight saturday there's one last push before some clearing starts saturday afternoon. now, let's head up to the sierra. it will be terrible for traveling tomorrow evening through 5:00 saturday morning with two to three feet of snow possible around 3500 feet. up to 6 feet in past levels. 5 to 6 feet. you can see it's kind of quiet now. easier to get up there today than later on in the week. we've got a 1 today, tomorrow and saturday. nothing for sunday and monday. a warmer system with just rain tuesday and wednesday. that's my accuweather seven-day forecast. how about my toyota tahoe report. alexis? >> it's not going to be good late tomorrow into the following day for travel. it's not great now. we have chain requirements for all of our routes to get into the sierra. squaw alpine about 4.5 hours. a little less than that at north

quarter or half inch for most of us. >> thank you, mike. three armed robbery suspects after this wild pursuit that had san francisco police driving on the sidewalks near at&t park. police cruisers drove around the ballpark and along the embarcadero. they searched the area around delancey streets and were able to arrest three suspects. more and more bay residents are moving to the sacramento area looking to get more bang for their buck. >> realtors boarded a bus to see why the homes there are a bargain. the median price in san francisco is a million bucks. but $440,000 in eldorado county. many of their clients are moving there to retire. >> you get twice the house for the house we're selling in the bay area. why not retire here. >> if you're around a million dollarp probably get an offer

meteorologist mike nicco is here to track rain later. >> quiet in the weather center. a lot going on elsewhere. let's look at live doppler 7 in santa rosa northward. that's where we have the light rain right now. it will spread through the rest of the neighborhoods today. get ready for waves of showers. locally breezy conditions with small downpours and hail and even a chance of lightning. this is not only a 1, light for today, but it's also for tomorrow. here's a quick look at my accuweather 12-hour planner. you can see it's much colder this morning. we each have mid-30s in the inland neighborhoods and mid-40s on the coast. the showers spread. keep an umbrella handy at 7:00. here's alexis. good morning, mike. want to take you back live to sky 7 where they're over the scene. they have sky mat 7 on top of this for us. it's san pablo avenue, just over from san pablo dam road. this start add the 3:30 this morning. chp initiated a pursuit and it

ended here in the richmond area. right on the line with san pablo. we've got a fire hydrant that was hit. it was shooting up into the air. this was from an hour ago. crews have made progress getting the streets cleaned up. they just towed that vehicle away. the driver was transported with some major injuries. we have san pablo avenue partially closed for morning commute. it looks like it's close to being reopened. i'll have an update as soon as i have more information. we also want to get to an update on breaking news tracking in oakland. police searching for a woman who may be missing in lake merritt. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live on lakeshore avenue. amy? >> reporter: jessica, the san francisco fire department dive team just went into the water. you can see the spotters here on the shore keeping an eye on them and making sure they're okay. there's a diver right there who

also looks like he's about to go in. i also have a shot for you to see from up above. this is sky 7 showing you they have a boat out on the water looking at well. they're attacking this from as many angles as they can. here's what they know. at 4:30 this morning, they got a call from a witness who heard two people arguing and thrashing in the water. when officers arrived, one officer went in and was able to pull a man out of lake merritt. he was given cpr on his way to the hospital. he was unconscious. so they have not opinion abbeen talk to him to get further information. they are still looking for a woman who is possibly in this water. >> we don't have clear confirmation if there were actually two people. but the 911 caller is pretty confident that there was. that being said, we have to take the precautions and err on the side that there potentially might be another person in

there. >> again, this is happening in lake merritt and oakland. we're at lakeshore in hanover avenue. a lot of people coming out for morning jogs and seeing this huge emergency happening. blocked off area here at the lake with the crime tape. they don't know how long they'll be out here. it's a large body of water. it's very deep in some parts. it's obviously still dark. a lot of challenges for this dive team. but they're going to stay here as long as they can looking for what possibly could be a woman in lake merritt. live in oakland, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> amy -- classes canceled at san leandro high school because of a shooting threat on campus. it was found scrawled on the boys' bathroom. the school was put on lockdown for three hours while police secured the campus. police say the message said i'm shooting the school tomorrow,

i'm sick of this. better not come. a homeless man who could not afford his bail has been released from the san francisco jail on order of a federal judge. 53-year-old james reason was arrested on theft charges in july. his bail was set at $330,000. on tuesday, a district court judge ruled that ream was not given a constitutionally adequate bail hearing. the judge said the bail amount violated the constitution's guarantee of equal protection. two undocumented farm workers are dead after trying to escape immigration agents in kern county. they crashed into a utility pole in delano. the man matched the description of a wanted suspect. turns out he was not the wanted person. the l.a. times reports that the chase started when deportation officers tried to contact the driver and he sped off. officials say the man was convicted of driving under the influence. the woman had no prior encounters with i.c.e. and they

leave behind six children. fremont police shot and killed a pregnant 16-year-old girl one year ago. now her family is filing a federal lawsuit against the city and the officers involved. the family of monday dragon says she was leaving a swimming pool when undercover officers opened fire on at car she was riding in. the lawsuit claims police were attempting to arrest the driver of the car. when the driver tried to get away, the police shot at the car hitting her four times and killing her. the district attorney recently freed the officers and charged the driver with her death. a man suspected of being a peeping tom. the victim reported seeing her peeping into her window two weeks ago. after the incident. she installed a security camera in the yard. police say he returned a week later and captured on video this time. yesterday morning the victim reported seeing him again. police are able to arrest thim

near his home sdpliefr. a san francisco jury is expected -- christopher coors is charmed in a 015 hit-and-run crash in north beach. two men were seriously hurt in the crash. he says he ran because a mob gathered who recognized him. prosecutors contend he ran to avoid a blood alcohol test. r.i.p. jeffrey the giraffe. toys "r" us has officially told its employees it's closing or selling all 800 stores in the u.s. that means potentially 30,000 jobs. the store at the plant in san jose was one of 180 already marked for closure in january. news that all of the stores will be closing was a lot to take for parents who wanted their children to grow up as toys "r" us kids like they did. >> i wanted to pass on that tradition of bringing my son to the toy store so he can play with the toys and now he can't do that sdpliefrmt actually

actually a surprise. going there as a kid. every gift came from toys "r" us pretty much. >> retail experts say the toy industry will struggle in the short-term. but mom and pop toy shops will ultimately fill the void. no word from toys "r" us as to when the closures will happen. let's get an update at lake merit from amy hollyfield. >> reporter: wanted to let you guys know it appears that they have found possibly a body. they ran over to their fire truck to grab a stretcher. they put up this blue tarp for privacy as they do their work. we did want to give you that update. it does look like the dive team was successful. the dive team just recently went into lake merritt and already a lot of activity here. it does appear that they have found possibly the woman that they were looking for. they got the call at 4:30 this morning from a witness who heard two people, a man and a woman arguing and thrashing in the water. when police arrived, they did find a man. they pulled him out of water. they had to administer cpr to him on the way to the hospital

and don't know his condition at this time. they searched the lake based on the report that there were two voices heard and now it looks like they have possibly found someone. we'll keep you posted when we get that confirmed. reporting live in oakland, amy hollyfield. >> certainly a sad situation. we appreciate the update. thank you, amy. uc regents are expected to vote to increase tuition for thousands of out of state students. the 3.5% hike would add about a thousand dollars to the tuition they pay. it would bring out of state tuition to more than $41,000 a year. an increase is expected to raise nearly $35 million. the regents say they may also raise tuition for california residents if state lawmakers don't give the university more money. never more than seven minutes away from your accuweather forecast. as we come up on 6:39. welcome to the coldest morning this week. 5 to 10 degrees colder than this time yesterday. let's head to the south bay. 36 in los gatos, in the upper

that is snow above 4,000 feet around lakeport and ukiah as your temperatures will be around 50. look at this. temperatures in the upper 30s. mid to upper 30s. lakeport, santa rosa and cloverdale. the rest of us in the low to mid-40s until you get to san jose and san francisco. unlike this morning, we could wake up to wet weather tomorrow will. which means the compute, tomorrow morning's commute could be two of the wettest. this morning, thankfully, it's been pretty dry out there. i want to bring in alexis and talk about the morning commute. i saw a lot of green on the map but you have a few hotspots. >> we do. we've been following this issue in san pablo area. sky 7 went home. it looks like things are wrapping up san pablo avenue at kirk lane. we have the end of a commute -- hit several property items. street lamp, we had a fire hydrant hit. water was spraying up into the air. a tree was taken out and the
