weather. moving through the diablo range. more weather posed to move into south san francisco from half moon bay and the santa cruz mountains. in the mountains, still snow going on in the mountains. but this winter storm warning expires right now at 5:00. 46 in hayward. 38 in morgan hill. so we've got the rain to talk about this morning. and some more heavy rain as we get into next week. chris? >> lisa, thanks. breaking news out of san francisco. one person is dead after a one alarm fire broke out at an adult video and bookstore in the south of market district. it started just after 2:00 this morning on 6th street between mission and mena. firefighters believe the business was open at the time, saying it may be a store. it's unclear what sparked the

flames, crews say 6th treat between mission and fulsome closed while they investigate. there is the threat of of a lamps in the sierra where a hiker were richmond has been lost since wednesday. tom mu lrky disappeared near bear valley. he is one of nine siblings, we are told 30 members of his family are helping with the search. they are holding out hope that his outdoor experience will keep him alive. >> reporter: at an impromptu family gathering in albany family members cling to each facebook update and the each other for support. >> he loves the outdoors. hiking, catching, skiing, he has been doing it for decades. >> reporter: even for the most skilled outdoorsman, a mighty challenge, mother nature. tom was reported missing by his wife after a day of skiing at bear valley at alpine county. >> that's the biggest problem is the weather. makes it hard for him to be

member christopher zanetis left an impression on classmates and professors. katie marzullo has the story. >> he was such a vibrant presence. i have difficulty speaking of him in the past tense. >> reporter: this stanford law professor is still in shock over the debt of christopher tripp zanetis. he called him a brilliant lawyer and a wonderful human being snoots' hard to believe how much he did in his life. >> reporter: he was searching with with the new york air national guard. he and six others were killed when their helicopter hit a power line and crashed in iraq. in addition, he was a fire marshal. he joined the fire department after the 9/11 attacks. he was also an intelligence consultant for nato. >> he will say i have to miss class i have been summoned to peru to to an earthquake helicopter rescue. or, sir, i will have to be a day

finding he allowed fbi officials to speak with a reporter about the clinton foundation probe and misled investigators who asked him about it. mccabe came to the department of justice to plead with an official not the fire him before his retirement day sunday. suddenly becoming the acting director of the fbi he denied a white house claim that because of james comey the morale of the fbi was low. >> the majority of employees enjoyed a deep and positive connection to director komi. >> reporter: for months he was faced with the president's wrath. fbi deputy director andrew mccabe was racing the clock the retire with full benefits. 90 days to go, the white house replied, his pension stripped away. >> in a statement, mccabe said

he called for my firing, called for me to be stripped of my pension after more than 20 years of service and all along we have said nothing never wanting to distract from the mission of the fbi by addressing the lies told and repeated about us. no more. the president responded last night saying andrew mccabe fired. a great day for the hard working men and women of the fbi. a great day for democracy. sanity moanious james comey was his boss and made mccabe look like a choir boy. he knew about all the corruption going on at the highest levels of the fbi. michael flynn spoke publicly for the first time since he pleaded guilty for lying in the russia investigation. >> what i'm not here to do is i'm not here to complain about who has done me wrong or how unfair i've been treated or how unfair the entire process has been. >> that was flynn's only comment about the guilty plea during a

campaign event in riverside con. a bay area congresswoman is giving president trump some credit when it comes to the topic of international trade. peninsula lawmaker jackie speier stopped by the abc7 broadcast center yesterday. she said the president raised an important issue about how her current trade agreements with china impact our national economy. >> we to need to hold them accountable more. we have like a 2.5% tariff for automobiles come from china. they have a 25% tariff for automobiles going from the united states. so there needs to be greater fairness there. >> congresswoman spehr is a founder of the professional business woman's conference. abc7 is a proud of that event which will be at the moss coney center on april 24th. new details about the fed streen bridge collapse in florida that killed six.

an engineer working on the project left a voice mail with the florida department of transportation on tuesday saying there were cracks found on the north end. crews were working on that section when it buckled. here is part of the voice mail. >> oblsly the cracking is not good and something needs to be done to repair that. from a safety issue, we tonight see there is any issue there. call me back when you can. thank you. >> the fbi employee was on assignment and missed the voice mail. gain, crews were working on the north end when it collapsed. a break in caught on camera. both cats that got away have now been found. katie utehs has the story. >> reporter: a hair raising break in at oakland's cat town n adoption center is shown on this

footage. >> when i saw the person and the indifference to the cats i was enraged. >> reporter: the executive director anne dunn says two cats were gone when she got in. one of the escaped cats ran down the block to this construction site and when workers started their equipment in the morning it startled her out of her height hiding spot and they caught her. >> i heard my whole life that the construction industry can be like herding cats and today it definitely was. >> the intruder tried to get into the cafe awe but it was locked. >> shocking that somebody would break into a cat cafe. >> reporter: they are fund-raising for security window to prevent future break ins so the felines don't flee until they are adopted. get your green ready for the largest st. patrick's day event west of the mississippi. the parade in san francisco starts at 11:30 this morning at

only on abc7 news, the couple at the center of the kidnapping case that voyage police called a hoax are finally speaking out about the ordeal. three years ago denise huskins was abducted from her boyfriend aaron quinn's home and raped twice. in an interview with "good morning america" husk ins describes what she thought while being dragged blindfolded by matthew muller. >> i'm going to hear a gun shot and that's it or i'm going to get pushed of a cliff. >> muller a serving a 40 year sentence for kidnapping. this week, the d.a. added new charges including forcible rape

and false imprisonment. voyage is paying the company $2.5 million to settle a defamation lawsuit. you can see the entire exclusively interview monday morning on "good morning america." new video show students posing with a gun that was accidentally discharged by a teacher in a classroom. there is also a picture showing the student pointing the gun at a camera. this teacher was giving a gun safety demonstration when a semiautomatic gun was discharged one student was hurt. he has a wall of pictures and a rack of medals. james smith ran ever los angeles marathon ever held held. tomorrow will be no different. >> reporter: when it comes to the l.a. marathon, not much has changed over the years. it's still 26.2 miles of it's still open to anybody who pays the entry fee. and it's still the place you

more showers are offshore poised to move into highway 101 and 280 from menlo park down through palo alto and sunny veil. boulder creek and the santa cruz mountains also looking at wet weather of the this the mid 30s. and 38 in morgan hill. forecast today calls for some showers this morning. possibility of a thunderstorm later on with peeks of sun. in the mid 50s. it will be a cool afternoon. by tonight the showers wind down and we will see a dry evening if you have saturday night plans. chris? lisa thanks. pg&e and responding to several lawsuits filed against the utility after the north bay wildfires. according to the press democrat the company is challenging the claim of the lawsuits noting that the official cause hasn't been determined. pg&e says the fires were the result of unprecedented weather events including drought heavy rain and a high wind events.

survivors of the fires accuse the utility of not maintaining power lines and not preparing for high wind. thieves hit the victoria's secret store four times in just one week. on thursday works women grabbed merchandise is got away in a waiting car. last friday, it was hit again, but this time the speeding getaway car hit another car and flipped over. palo alto police arrested a man and a woman from oakland. then on sunday three women in their 20s stole 100 bras worth more than $6,000. and on monday, 50 bras were taken, worth $1400. pressure is growing to raise pay for low wage workers in order to recruit them if businesses don't, some are finding themselves short staffed. abc7 news reporter david louie look at a dilemma created by a strong economy. >> reporter: silicon valley's red hot job market means people are working but it's taking higher wages to fill some jobs. >> we have a de facto minimum of $15s an hour just to get even

unskilled labor to commit to showing up for work and continuing with the job. >> reporter: bill new felled and his wife linda own and operate express employment a staffing agency in san jose. they told abc7 news it takes two to three weeks to fill some jobs when it used to take 24 hours. but the pay has to be higher than san jose's minimum wage of $13.50 because of the region's high cost of living, especially rent. >> it's going to be very difficult for low wage workers. and it's going to be very difficult for businesses that rely on low wage porkers. >> reporter: piology abrptly closed three of his restaurants in san jose but owners did not respond to our requests to confirm it did so because of staffing shortages. there is concern the south bay ay have reached a point where some traditionally low wage businesses can't afford or aren't willing to way wages that cover the region's cost of

living. >> we are proo probably going to see a migration of certain businesses out of the bay area. hopefully not a huge my fwrags but it could happen. >> reporter: jamie underwood is starting a new job after having a child. she is getting paid more than she expected. >> i exceeded my expect aces. i thought i would be starting at 13 or 15, and they got me up to 17. >> reporter: it trickles down to the consumer level. customers who go to stores or restaurants where they have cut back on staffing or can't fill positions will find service slower. in san jose, david louie, abc7 news. bart says it has no power to do anything about controversial ads placed at several of its stations a. group called problemives for immigration reform have posted ads th. they call on the visa program to be recalled. bart issued a statement saying

improve them. gerald believes the latter. do you believe anything that h said today? >> i wasn't listening to everything he said. i heard him speak before. >> reporter: the depot is owned by the city of mill vaechl it's the only building the city leases out as a private business. it's historical. do you see that sign up there? it says northwestern pacific. it is the old railroad that crisscrossed the north bay long before the golden gate bridge. commuters used to board trains right here. the depot today is an old building needing upgrades. the concern among longtime locals that after the investment in those changes they will be priced out. >> the issue is turning a community center into a building for maximum profit. >> reporter: can a cafe and a community center coexist? >> yes. >> reporter: can you make that promise? >> it's all over italy. that's what all their cafes are. >> reporter: but this isn't italy, it's marin county, where

those opposed to the chain signed a petition and will ask the city council to act on it in a meeting april 2nd. in appears that san francisco's grub steak restaurant will cease to exist as we currently know it. the restaurant in a rail car has been around since 1967 in the poke gulch neighborhood. it's particularly popular with the late night crowd. according to the chronicle the owner filed a permit to demolish it. the rail car was once part of the east bay rail system. the mercury news reports the social media giant filed for building permits for a 465,000 square foot building and bridge in menlo park. facebook could employ more than 2,000 people in the building once it's complete. this is the next part of a two-phase project. the first phase, building 21, is scheduled to be built later this year. on word on when the second

phase, building 22, will start. a high school student in san jose is about to have a piece of his hard work put into use on the international space. abc7 news reporter jonathan blume has more on the winner of a contest that encouraged young engineers to reach for the stars. >> reporter: it may be the most unusual wrench you have ever seen. its designer is happy. >> i just found out i won the future engineers competition. >> he just learned his tool will be 3d printed aboard the international space. >> i think it's functional enough they could use it. >> reporter: the competition encouraged students to make one tool that does two things. >> in space everything is about saving every gram or every space that you can. >> reporter: his tool combines a ramp wet a set of wrenches. he started with the shape. >> i pickeding in up and observed how my finners fell

by 11:00, 12:00, they are widely scattered. even a little sunshine could provide a thunderstorm. but the evening looks dry. amounts? look at the north bay. really nothing there. anywhere from a couple of hundredths to .2. as we go through tuesday, check it out, 3:00, here's some rain. it continues into wednesday morning. and then comes a heavier rain wednesday night into thursday. again we are looking at the low snow levels and more activity for much of the middle of next week. so the amounts -- this is preliminary but boy is the interesting as we go through wednesday and thursday. check it out. we could see another 3/4 of an inch in san francisco. highs today, 55 on the peninsula as well as richmond. 54 san francisco. the accuweather seven-day forecast, scattered showers today, maybe a winnie mix for st. patrick's day. sunday and monday dry. our heaviest rain looks to be the middle of next week.
