stay with us for "good morning america." making news in america this morning -- another explosion. in austin, texas, after a string of deadly package bombs left outside homes. >> i've been here my whole life. and -- i think i'm just in a state of shock and disbelief right now. >> neighbors ordered to stay indoors, as police work overnight to clear the scene. the city on edge with a potential serial bomber on the loose. what's different about this explosion? president trump steps up his attack on robert mueller's russia investigation. prompting a new statement from the white house this morning. this, as facebook responds to a bomb shell report that political clients exploited the data of 50 million facebook users.

a star acrobat fell to his death in front of fans of cirque du soleil. millions of dollars in missing gold. is it here in pennsylvania? plus more bracket-busting results in the march madness tournament. and the chick-fil-a worker who went above and beyond after a customer forgot something at the drive through. a good monday morning. to you all. we begin with breaking news. parts of austin, texas, are on lockdown after the city's fourth bombing in 17 days. >> the latest explosion came in the southwest section of the city, leaving two men injured. it came just six days after a package bomb killed a teenager. the previous explosions involved packages rigged with improvised explosive devices. in this case, police where are investigating where the device was triggered by a trip wire. a witness says the wire was tied

between two real estate signs. police are urgently combing the area to make sure there are no other devices. residents within half mile radius are being told to stay indoors. >> we're asking you to stay in your residence until we have had the opportunity to ensure this neighborhood is safe. if you have an emergency, call 911, give us the address so we can come in and safely escort you out. >> i don't know if it was malicious on or just an accident. i'm scared it's related to what's been happening. >> if we're all more aware, hopefully, we will catch them. we're going to stress it more to our child, too. anything you see out of the ordinary, just instantly report it. >> that entire city of 2 million people on edge this morning. two men injured in last night's explosion are in good condition. so far, police have not linked this bombing to the three earlier explosions that left two people dead. the victims in those cases were people of color. the reward has been raised to $115,000.

now to the other big story. that we're following overnight. president trump ramping up his attack on special counsel robert mueller's russia investigation. >> the president fired off a series of tweets this morning. now a white house lawyer is trying to clarify. arlette saenz has more. arlette, good morning. >> reporter: diane and kendis, good morning. president trump spent the weekend out of the public eye but fuming over twitter. his latest attacks on the russia investigation are entering new territory. he's steering his fury in a new direction. his latest target, special counsel robert mueller. calling him out for the first time by name. the president tweeted the mueller probe should never have been started. in that there was no collusion and there was no crime. witch hunt. the fresh attack came after his personal lawyer called for the justice department to end the special counsel's probe. lawmakers on both sides of the

aisle are issuing a warning, don't fire mueller. >> if he tried to do that, that would be the beginning of the end of his presidency. we're a rule of law nation. >> this would end in a constitutional crisis. and i think democrats and republicans need to speak out about this right now. >> reporter: a white house lawyer tried to ease concerns. the white house yet again confirms that the president is not considering or discussing the firing of the special counsel. on fox news, one republican urged the president to exercise restraint. >> if you have done nothing wrong, you should want the investigation to be as fulsome and thorough as possible. >> reporter: the president took aim at deputy fbi director andrew pk kab, who was fired on friday, days before his retirement. mccabe denies any wrongdoing. but the president tweeted his ouster was a great day for democracy. sources tell abc news mccabe was interviewed by mueller's team and gave investigators personal memos of his interactions with the president. similar to memos written by his boss and former fbi director

james comey. the president tweeted he spent very little time with mccabe and never saw him taking any notes. he's calling the documents by mccabe and comey quote fake memos. kendis and diane? >> all right, arlette saenz, live from d.c. for us. thank you. president trump is set to roll out his plan to fight the opioid crisis today. it calls for the death penalty for drug traffickers. it calls for mandatory minimum penalties for dealers who distribute certain illegal opioids. he'll unveil more details today in new hampshire, a state hard hit by the opioid crisis. facebook is under more scrutiny this morning as we learn more about information about how a political consulting firm was able to collect the personal data of 50 million facebook users without their knowledge. that firm went on to work for the trump campaign. the man who blew the whistle on the data grab is now speaking to

abc news. our molly hunter is joining us from london with this story. good morning, molly. >> reporter: kendis, diane, good morning. that's right. this story is causing outrage on both sides of the atlantic, british and american politicians are threatening to haul in mark zuckerberg to testify and explain how this happened. a data company tied to president trump's 2016 campaign is under investigation by facebook, accused of mishandling millions of americans' personal information. >> if you're looking at trying to create information weapons, the battle space you operate in is social media. that is where the fight happens. >> reporter: in 2014, chris wylie worked for cambridge analytica. the organization helps political candidates better target voters online. speaking for the first time on american tv since blowing the whistle, he claims cambridge analytica, using a third party, took data from the facebook accounts of up to 50 million americans. cambridge analytica would create

online quizzes. when facebook users filled out the tests, they were giving the firm access to their data and the data of their friends as well. >> when you like things, you reveal all these little clues. if we have enough of those clues, we can start to develop a portrait of who you are. >> reporter: armed with that info, wylie says they had a questionable power. >> cambridge analytica will pick at whatever weakness of vulnerability we think you have. >> reporter: the firm went on to work for the trump campaign. which denies using their data. wylie says some of the familiar phrases heard on the campaign trail were tested years earlier by the firm. >> we tested things like drain the swamp. a lot of the narratives of the alt right, we started testing before really they gained prominence in american political discourse. >> reporter: now, chris wylie says he's coming out now because

he feels bad about the impact after the 2016 election. facebook has now banned him, that third paert, and cambridge analytica. the firm denied any wrong doing. kendis and diane? >> molly hunter, thank you. >> and one more note from overseas. vladimir putin has crushed the competition, easily winning re-election. as president of russia. putin joined cheering fans who braved the minus 10-degree weather. thanking them for their support. the election results are expected to be validated despite this widespread stuffing of ballot boxes caught on camera across the country. back in this country, time for a look at your weather this monday morning. ♪ a storm front stretching from north dakota to florida is on the move at this hour. pushing severe weather into the tennessee valley.

and there it goes. all it took was about 300 pounds of dynamite to bring down this old building in ft. worth, texas. >> very effective. >> implosion took ten seconds, turning the 12-story building into rubble. it appears there was yet another missed warning sign about the florida school shooting suspect. court documents reveal school officials tried to have the alleged shooter committed in 2016 for a psychiatric evaluation. he had allegedly indicated he wanted to harm others and himself. and he even admitted to drinking gasoline. if he had been committed, he likely would not have been able to buy a firearm legally. one of the people making the recommendation was the sheriff's deputy accused of doing nothing when that shooting happened at stoneman dough last high school. an unsung hero from 9/11 has passed away from cancer at the young age of 45. firefighter thomas phelan evacuated hundreds of people

from lower manhattan while working as a ferry captain. officials say his cancer results from the fumes around ground zero. the mayor tweeted overnight -- in our city's darkest hour, firefighter thomas phelan's heroism saved countless lives. we'll never forget his service and sacrifice. the international search for a missing pennsylvania teenager is over. 16-year-old amy yu, who allegedly ran away with 45-year-old kevin esterly were found in mexico. esterly who is married father of four is in custody. he is awaiting extradition to pennsylvania. there's a new legal battle in the online dating world. the parent company of tinder and match.com is suing bumble. the lawsuit is claiming patent infringement, saying the co-creators of bumble are former tinder employees who set up a virtually identical service. just last november, bumble reportedly turned down a

witnesses say he appeared to simply lose his grip. >> yeah, the whole thing happened as the audience watched. abc's daria albinger has more. >> reporter: acrobats swing overhead in tampa, florida. at a cirque du soleil performance. then, horror. >> they had a performer that fell from an unknown height. >> reporter: one of the acrobats plunging 20 feet. >> we -- we experienced him literally fall in front of us. >> that was the shocker point for everyone, i think. >> reporter: cell phone video capturing the moments after the fall. >> we wanted the guy to get up. he was unresponsive. >> reporter: the tragedy happening saturday night. 38-year-old yann arnaud was taken to the hospital. a veteran aerial strap artist. on his instagram page, he posted video of his solo act. he'd been a cirque du soleil performer for 15 years.

the company released a statement saying the entire cirque du soleil family is in shock and devastated by this tragedy. the circus canceled the remaining two performances in tampa. police are investigating. daria albinger, abc news, new york. >> this is not the first deadly fall. during circumstance cirque du soleil shows. a performer was killed in 2013 after falling about 50 feet at a show in las vegas. students at florida international university return to school today for first classes since the tragic bridge collapse. a memorial at the bridge is growing. it includes six crosses, honoring the six people killed when the span collapsed. the final victim, brandon brownfield, was identified sunday. today, the university community and the public are being asked to pause at 1 dln 47 p.m. to mark the moment the bridge came down. for now, the street will remain closed. stephen hawking left us one more thing to think about before
