a piece of good news, positive news for the commute. we have about 20 minutes until the metering lights flip on. we'll check drive times up next. and we are staying on top of our breaking news in san francisco. a woman rescued by firefighters at a fire overnight. amy hollyfield is live. amy? >> reporter: yeah, polk and jackson. you can see they still have a huge ladder extended. you don't see any more water being sprayed. the fire is out. the emergency of this is over. they did get the woman out okay. she's described as being older, maybe possibly in her 70s and she lives alone and firefighters took her down that ladder, but she made it. she got out okay. the fire was in her unit. quite a terrifying few moments for her no doubt. everybody was asleep.

we've talked to residents about the panic of waking up and knowing that there was a fire. they did hear alarms. what was scary they also heard her. listen to what her neighbors right above her had to say. >> we heard pat on her deck screaming, fire, help, help, fire. she was on her deck screaming out here on polk street. i went out to the deck and i asked her if she was okay, and she said, i'm fine but i can't get out because the fire's inside. so until they brought the ladder, she couldn't get out of her own apartment. >> reporter: you see all her neighbors out here on the corner waiting to hear when they can go back inside. you can see some of them even have their pets in carriers. firefighters said they pulled one cat out themselves. looks like everybody else got their pets out. that woman is okay this one had a pretty good ending.

they don't know what started the fire. they do believe it started in her unit and they do think that it looks like it was accidental. the firefighters are feeling good this is out. looks like they're putting up the hoses so looks like they're start to go wrap up at the scene. they don't know yet, though, when they will be allowed back in. oh, one more thing i wanted to point out to you was the struggle in the long hallways. they had to make entrance from the outside and interior and they were struggling with the long hallway to get everything they needed to her apartment, all the hoses. interesting little struggle they had here in san francisco. live in the city, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> certainly glad they got to that woman. developing news out of fremont. police are searching for a missing teenager. 14-year-old marco gamboa did not go to school. he was last seen at 5:00 p.m. he's 5'5" and 130 pounds. please call police if you've

seen him. a disturbing discovery in the basement of a san jose home. live grenades. >> police had to shut down the area near the san jose country club. sky 7 watched as a bomb squad came in and took care of the explosives. abc 7 news reporter katie marzullo has more. >> reporter: sky 7 captured the moment the incident came to an end. the bomb squad detonated live grenades in the backyard of a home on gordon avenue. the homeowner found the devices while getting ready for an estate sale. >> there were five grenades. two were smoke. we didn't know that. >> reporter: this woman said she was organizing the estate sale for the homeowner. >> she was shaking like crazy thinking they were real. i almost fell over because i -- we handled them. put them down just in case. >> reporter: they called authorities and sheriff's deputies responded a little after 4:00 in the afternoon. they closed down streets and evacuated ten homes. >> it's scary to know that

someone has that kind of stuff in their home. >> maybe they're just memorabilia or something like that. there's still concern with what's going on in the world today. >> reporter: the detonation came shortly after 7:00 p.m. and people were allowed to return home. the estate sale organizer said the homeowner has not lived in the house for two years and has no idea how the grenades came to be in her basement. the sheriff's office is investigating. in san jose, katie marzullo, abc 7 news. it's 5:06. happening today san francisco poised to become the first major american city to ban the sale of fur. despite criticism from stores it's estimated between 30 and 50 retailers in san francisco sell fur and the big ones are macy's, neiman marcus and saks. a measure to keep retailers from selling in stores and online. >> these are animals not raised for any other purpose other than

incredibly sad news. we're thinking of the victim's family as we work with local law enforcement to understand what happened. and coming up at 7:00 a.m. we'll have more on this investigation. with your "gma first look," abc news, new york. it's 5:15. history is set to be made tomorrow in california. state senator toni atkins will be sworn in tomorrow. when she is, she'll become the first woman as well as the first lesbian to hold that position. she is taking over for kevin deleon. representation matters especially when it comes to breaking gender stereotypes. >> five decades worth of drawings done by kids asked to draw a scientist. 5,000 kids participated and less than 1% drew a female scientist. times have changed.

nowadays kids who are younger than 6 years old are just as likely to draw female scientists as male. it changes as they get older. they're more likely to draw male scientists once they reach grade school because male scientists, researchers say, had more exposure. women are still under represented in some fields so the stereotypes still exist. more work to be done. a man caught bragging about drug sales on facebook is facing some consequences. >> the marin ij reports he was arrested yesterday. he was already on probation for drug trafficking allegations. what a probation officer looked at social media, yeah, you're into the drugs again. investigators searched his car during his next probation check and found this, $15,000 worth of drugs including marijuana, mushrooms, and ecstasy. the countdown is on. there's less than a week until opening day and "forbes" is releasing its rankings of all 30

7:00, that's when some of the moisture will start coming ashore. you can see some yellows in there through the morning and into the afternoon hours. we'll have periods of light rain with periods of moderate rain embedded in that through the evening hours, early overnight. by tomorrow morning you can see it tapers. we'll still wake up with wet streets and then rain continues on a lighter scale tomorrow with pockets. you can see yellow of moderate. through the morning commute, just about all of us will be dry. the closer you are to the coast, the more likely you'll be wet and also in the north bay. and then by 7:00 this evening, looks like all of us will be wet and then it will increase for tomorrow's morning commute. so get ready to drive on some slick streets. it hammers the mountains tomorrow. remember, we still have thursday, friday, and saturday to get through. thursday could be the heaviest for us as that river bumps up towards us.

we could have a chance of thunder, also. that is our day with our fastest winds. saturday, sunday and monday, increasing sunshine and warmth. we have four tough days, alexis. okay. so far it hasn't been too tough for the tuesday morning commute. however, i am just hearing about a new issue with b.a.r.t. 24th street and mission, delays due to debris on the tracks. the roadways are looking okay from the north bay. southbound 101 through san rafael. we have that dry pavement this morning. enjoying that and some relatively light drive times, too. westbound 80 to the maze, in the green, 17 minutes. we don't have any metering lights on yet. should be another nine minutes into the city. southbound 101, san francisco to sfo looks great, in the green at nine minutes. >> thank you, alexis. businesses are going to get some help in taking on amazon and that help comes from google. retailers will be allowed to list products across a variety of platforms.

number four, a little more information on that b.a.r.t. delay developing at 24th street mission station. some smoldering debris on the tracks. we did talk to b.a.r.t. they are saying it should clear quickly. san francisco fire department is already on the scene and that delay is in all directions. i will keep a close eye on that. number five, facebook is holding an emergency meeting with employees to talk about cambridge analytica. the political data firm with ties to the trump campaign is accused of accessing 50 million facebook profiles. police in tempe, arizona, say uber is likely not at fault for a deadly crash involving its self-driving suv and a woman. the police chief says the woman was pushing her bicycle sunday night when she abruptly walked in a lane of traffic. and, number seven, remember that terrifying robot dog that can open doors? well, amazon ceo has one. he posted this picture on twitter saying he was taking his dog for a walk. >> i think this was at a conference. i don't know if he has one at his house. >> he was being jokey and having

ladder. she's an elderly woman. they got her down the ladder okay. she got out safely. all of her neighbors were able to get themselves out okay. >> right down the fire, boom, boom, boom, all five floors down to the bottom, yeah. the police were walking up the the police were walking up the stairs. >> reporter: the building is still evacuated. the only damage is to her unit. they don't know the fire's cause. they're still working on that. everyone, including all the pets, got out safely. live, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> amy, thank you. i do want to get to more breaking news i'm tracking at the live desk. another bombing in texas overnight. this time near san antonio at a fedex facility.

one person was hurt. authorities do think it was linked to a string of bombings in austin as well and that's because a package that exploded was headed to austin. fbi and atf are on scene right now. the entire building is being treated as a crime scene in case there are any other explosive packages. developing news about-face book controversy that has its stock taking a beating and has some users deleting their accounts. >> this morning the company is calling an emergency meeting for its employees. and this all goes back to the way a political firm was able to access 50 million accounts. abc 7 news reporter matt keller is live in menlo park. matt? >> reporter: facebook says its investigation into what happened is just getting started. >> we are unbelievably outraged and beyond disturbed at the allegations that data was misused or our policies had been violated. >> reporter: the center of the scandal is cambridge analytica,

a political data firm with ties to the trump campaign. they're accused of accessing without consent the profiles of up to 50 million facebook users and using that information to try to sway your vote. new video from britain's channel 4 shows the political data firm giving an undercover reporter a sales pitch and promising ways to trap rival candidates. now facebook has banned cambridge analytica which says it never used the data and deleted it. facebook is not sure how it will notify the 50 million users that were affected as they continue their investigation. reporting live in menlo park, matt keller, abc 7 news. thank you, matt. #deletefacebook began trending after news became public. people are upset their profiles were sold to a company that helped the trump campaign. some of their anger targeted at facebook's mark zuckerberg. we have not seen mark make a public statement yet. we do have information on our website abc7news.com.

police make an arrest after several freeway shootings. that arrest helped in marin county late last night. a victim said he honked at a driver. that person pulled out a gun. police arrested a suspect identified as an 18-year-old named christian torres perez of san rafael. police found a bb gun in his car. a look at the three total shootings in the past few days. one in marin and then another shooting happened on 580 in oakland around 8:30 last night. a driver was shot in the finger there. and a shooting on interstate 80 and hercules on saturday as well. no word on if all of these are connected. a celebration of life held in wine country last night for the three women who dedicated their lives to helping veterans. >> live here on abc 7. we heard many people paying tribute to the victims. >> we all loved christine and jennifer and jen. this is their gift, and it's their legacy that we keep this

this montgomery train, unusual in the morning, pulled up and we all got on that. we will be able to get as far as the financial district in san francisco but not on to the mission or sfo this morning. hundreds of people were stranded at the 19th street station, people wondering what's happening. we are hearing these announcements coming over the loudspeaker. okay. they're now saying the train will go on to civic center and 12th street. so trains are moving now into the city after they were halted for about 10 or 15 minutes. it's going to be anything but the normal commute this morning going into the city. >> definitely slow. reggie, you were looking at statistics. the 24th street station has the most number of people who rely on public transit and within

walking dw ining distance, righ? >> they're not driving to a station. so they're kind of -- they don't have a lot of options once they get to the trains so they'll have to take a bus, i guess. jim, that is good news you're able to get into the city. but the problem is there are no trains currently that are able to go through the 24th street station. so this is going to end up having a domino effect, i can only imagine. going to go to 16th street, is that right? >> right. when we got on it the sign was flashing montgomery. in a couple minutes on the phone they're saying now it will go as far as the civic center and then the next stop past that into the mission but not as far as 24th street. if you're planning to take b.a.r.t. to the san francisco airport you may want to make alternative plans. the fremont line is running

the ground as we head to the end of the commute and then you can see some yellow pop in there. we're going to go from sprinkles to steady, light rain to embedded small areas of moderate rain as we head from noon into the evening commute. and then overnight it will continue all the way through 7:00 tomorrow morning and look at that, just that moist flow continues to bring us light rain tomorrow with small areas of moderate rain. there's a slight chance we could have a thunderstorm tomorrow evening. let's take a look at the rain totals heading through the morning commute. near the coast you're going to get wet. it's the evening commute where everybody is going to have to drive on wet conditions. and during the overnight hours they'll continue to stay wet. so here's a look at my accuweather seven-day forecast. going to get a quarter inch out of this initial push, up to a half inch, and then about another quarter inch to a half inch for wednesday. the strongest part of the storm, the moderate storm when it gets wet and windy and a better chance of thunderstorms rolls in thursday, it will taper.

sunday and monday looking dry. alexis, how about an update? >> we'll take you back to our commuter alert if you're riding b.a.r.t. some smoldering debris. san francisco fire department is on the scene. now their concern is there may be some damage to the tracks there. you see some wiring so no trains are moving through. we spoke with our colleague coming from the east bay on b.a.r.t. a few minutes ago. he says he has limited service now in to san francisco. he was going to get off at the montgomery street station. he was able to make it in. it does not sound like they were going further than 16th. if you're trying to get to the airport or vice versa, could be tough here this morning. we also have a couple issues on the roadways. this one start to go improve, westbound 580 at the 680 merge in dublin. a crash in the three right lanes down to just the far right lane. and then eastbound near vasco road still in the cleanup stages. no major delays. new at 6:00, trying to stay

area b.a.r.t. is now recommending other means of transportation. they are saying extremely limited service from the east bay to montgomery due to smoldering debris at 24th street station and no trains are moving through the area. we do have amy hollyfield on the way to the scene. we'll have the latest in the 6:00 hour. you're never more than seven minutes away from the accuweather forecast. let's start at 10:00 wednesday evening. all that rain coming in thursday. we're right on the northern edge of that atmospheric river which means the south bay and the inland east bay usually our two drier areas. once that pushes through thursday at 4:00 in the afternoon hours we'll turn to this storm. that will come down from alaska and bring us more chances of thunderstorms and small hail for friday into saturday morning. planning a weekend getaway to lake tahoe. there are new rules to consider if you rent a vacation home.
