a and android devices. 65-year-old tom mullarkey was reported missing by his wife a week ago today, after a day of skiing in bear valley ski resort. today she said that officials have transitioned their efforts from a rescue to a recovery effort. this means that the sheriff's department will no longer be actively looking for mullarkey. they will be providing ground and air support once the weather improves. an oakland student is is isi jail now as he's brought a gun to school. >> reporter: at least on the surface, things had settled down by the time the school day was over at freemont high. it was a totally different scene this morning. >> i told the kids to stay

inside, and they wouldn't listen. when the police came on the campus. >> oakland unified school district's -- administrators and a school resource officer. >> if a student starts acting somewhat suspiciously, the police officer asks if this student has any weapons and apparently somehow figured out that there indeed was a weapon on this student's person. >> reporter: it was a loaded gun in the student's waistband, the officer called for backup and that's when oakland police arrived on campus. the student was taken into custody. parents and guardians did get a robo call telling them what happened. >> lynette was one of them. she's talking about the deadly shooting last month at a deadly shooting in parkland, florida.

battle over mayor in san francisco. the city's naacp chapter has filed a complaint with the da's office alleging that the board of supervisors violated a state law by appointing interim mark r ferrell mayor. >> reverend amos brown claims that the plot was hatched by the board of supervisors to london breed as existing mayor, instead, six supervisors voeed in january to remove breed from the temporary position, and instead appoint their colleague mark ferrell. ferrell was turned down as supervisor and he chose not to run for mayor. brown alleges the six supervisors met secretly to make their plans. >> there were several meetings, a certain restaurant in this

jim albright, the last guard off the island. and jim is here with me to talk about the experience on the walk. you were the last guard to leave the island? that w that is amazing. what was it like? >> it was kind of lonely. >> i bet. >> i remember one thing that they run a cable from the city over to power the light house. >> okay. >> and of course i was running around at night checking the island. and we had a power failure and the only light on the whole island was my flashlight that night. >> you're kidding me. that must have been spooky. >> it was different, yeah. >> you're saying you lived on alcatraz for four years? that was your home and your livelihood? >> correct. >> so on that last day, that was it for you, right? >> no job and no home. yes. and i might say that both our daughters were born while we

lived out there and now they were borned at kaiser hospital, but we lived on the island. so on their birth certificate as place of resident is alcatraz island, california. >> what? there can't be many people who can say that. all the people there, you could leave any time you wanted to. what was the experience like? describe back in the day what alcatraz was, we see it in the movies, we see it depicted certain ways, what was it like? >> it was another job. i went there for a job, you know, and it progressed into now part of history and it wasn't a planned thing, it just happened. but we had our own boat on the island and it had about 12 boats a day scheduled and each person carried a boat schedule in their purse or their wallet and you could go to town any time the boat ran. and the only thing is, you planned your trip to town around

gusting from 15 to 30 miles a hour. the temperature will be in the mid to upper 50s, and that brings us to our next storm which will come in late tonight and continue through at least the morning hours tomorrow, a stronger storm ranking 2 on the storm impact scale, we'll see hours and pockets of heavy rain, stronger storms are possible, wind gusts 15 to 45 miles an hour. and you can see at 1:00 a.m., rain still falling over the east bay, and heavy rain and strong gusty winds through the morning commute. then the front will sweep on thursday by the midday hours, early afternoon, we'll begin to see a little bit of partial clearing into the late afternoon and early evening hours tomorrow. we estimate it will range from half-inch to three-quarters inch

in many locations. before i get to the sierra, we have a thunderstorm chance, i mentioned that, the best chances over in the east bay and in the south bay, and there might even be some small hailstones mixed in. high temperatures tomorrow will range from upper 50s at the coast, to upper 50s to near 60 around the bay, and maybe a couple of inland locations will reach into the low 50s. now to the sierra, where the storm warning is in effect for areas above 6,500 feet until 11:00 tomorrow night and snowfall totals will probably range from about 2 to 3 feet in most locations and now back to the bay area and our accuweather 7-day forecast, after tomorrow's stronger storm, which will be mainly a morning and midday event, we'll see scattered showers on friday, saturday and sunday. each of those days the stormy weather will rank only 1 on the storm impact scale. and finally beginning early next week, sunnier, milder, drier spring like conditions, by wednesday we'll see high temperatures in the low 70s.

confessing. he said the motive was personal life challenges. live in texas with the latest. >> reporter: we have just learned from a news conference from austin's police chief that they say that the suspect left a 25-minute confessional record on his phone, they say on that recording he describes the six bombs he constructed and describes the difference between each bomb. the information that led police to marc anthony condit seen here on his mother's facebook page came together in the last 24 to 36 hours. initially condit was tied to a cell phone in a hotel parking lot where he found him inside his vehicle. >> as members of the police department s.w.a.t. team approached the vehicle, the suspect detonated a bomb

to help junior women through mentorship has tripledthrou thr the leaning. so there's sort of a backlash. >> because without the men mentoring women and they occupy most leadership positions now, how will women get the opportunity to advance? should we say, hey, can we come to the golf course with you? what could women do? >> there are three important things women can do. number one, women need to seize the opportunities, there are wonderful opportunities following the me too campaign. it's important to be very focused on your goals, where are you trying to advance yourself and who are the people that help you get there, that's number one, number two, women need to help each other through that difficulty of trying to trying to find the mentor that will be comfortable enough to help and not be reluctant to help, help open doors, help seize

opportunities. >> i thiraditionally that has bn difficult because you feel like you want to open the door wider for the next generation, but you've got to and we need to not look at it that way. >> sisterhood, we need to help each other. and the third thing we also need to be aware as women as sensitivities on the end of the male mentor. >> because they're worried right now? >> absolutely worried because they feel that maybe it's not a good idea for them to mentor another female, maybe it's easier to men for another male. and we want to make sure that we are aware of those sensitivities in terms of how we handle that relationship. and sometimes to talk about it also helps. >> if you feel like you're being passed over for a promotion, or your pay is not equal, doing equal work. what can you do, how go you express your case? >> i think it's very important to focus on relationships and people around you that can help advance you and advance your career. i think that people like to help
