good morning, bay area. >> let's get up and get going. >> good morning. it is saturday, march 24th. let's start with a quick look at the weather. lisa, we're talking about a one on the storm impact scale. >> that's right. two weak systems will travel through the bay area. one currently pushing through the south bay and another one later on this afternoon. it's a one on our storm impact scale. low snow levels and possibility of isolated thunderstorms. here's live doppler 7. you can see some of the heavier rain around highway 1 east of highway 1 and we'll take you up through 280 and redwood city scattered showers and across the bay and coward concord 680 bay point into antioch. this is a weak system with

visibilities reloduced in the north bay. breezy winds upper elevations. 30 to 50 right now. mostly cloudy skies today. 10:00, upper 40s to near 50. by 2:00, we're dry. the leading edge of the next weak system is on the way and that will provide a few scattered showers throughout the evening hours. so we're talking about just a little bit more rain before a big change in our extended outlook. we'll have the details coming up. >> hundreds of thousands of people are expected for today's march for our lives. marches are planned across the country include here in the bay area. you can see on the map there are several including san francisco, oakland, and san jose. students want lawmakers to address gun laws and school safety. among the people you might see today is warriors coach steve

kerr. >> i think i'm going to stay here in oakland. i haven't quite planned it out yet. i think my family and i will take part in the oakland. >> some of the students and parents flew to washington, d.c. on the new england patriots plane. lyft is providing free rides at 50 of the events. the company is providing $1.5 million worth of rides. each ride has a max cost of $15 a piece which amounts to 100,000 rides. this morning any available ride codes will be posted on lyft's blog page. for a complete list of events in the bay area and heads up about transit impacts where you live, go to abc7news.com. police need your help to find a man they say wanted to buy a gun and threatened to shoot up a school. a customer reported it just before 6:00 last night at the big five sporting goods store. officers arrived minutes later but could not find him. police say witnesses did not

find his statements to be credible but they still want to identify and locate him. he is described as a transient and about 35 years old. tensions escalated late last night in sacramento when protesters pounded on a police car. people had marched peacefully earlier in the night to protest the fatal shooting of police of an unarmed black man. people chanted as they marched along streets of sacramento. this marked the second night of protests after police released video showing police killing clark last weekend. >> we have to be the state that is going to make a stand and actually have police reform. >> former sacramento kings star cousins says he'll pay for clark's funeral. we're now getting a look inside an east bay high school

that went on lockdown after a student was suspected of bringing a gun to campus. you can see students hiding down low yesterday afternoon in a picture shared on twitter. sky 7 flew over san lorenzo after the sheriff arrested a 15-year-old boy. deputies say he had a gun and they credit other students for alerting them. developing news out of out couldn'ta co contra costa county after a car went down an embankment. firefighters say a man was driving with two female passengers. two suffered major injuries and one is in critical condition. it's unclear why the car left the roadway. now to the fiery crash and explosion this week at travis air force base. the fbi revealed the identity of the bay area man who breached security gates and ignited explosives in his vehicle. but they don't know why he did

it. >> cell phone video captured the fiery moments after a black suv breached the main security gate at travis air foce base thursday and exploded and the driver was killed. the fbi in sacramento now searching for a motive. the driver was a civilian with no connection to the base. what investigators found inside his suv was chilling. >> five propane tanks. there was a gym bag with personal effects. three phones. three plastic one gallon gas cans and several lighters. >> that kind of freaks me out. >> ted lives not far from where the man recently lived. the fbi came knocking yesterday. >> he showed me a picture of some guy that i told him i seen him. >> he says he was a limo driver. a neighbor told us he was an old friend who used his address to get a driver's license.

he said he may have suffered with mental health issues but never talked about harming n ii himself or others. >> the investigation we're doing right now is try to piece together his life. trying to piece together what led up to this event. >> the fbi says there is no known threat to the b.a.s.ase o fairfield community. two major injuries to two star players will alter the warriors postseason and the giants regular season. steph curry suffered an mcl sprain in his left knee. curry will have an mri today to determine how severe it is. and giants ace will undergo surgery to insert a pin in his pinky. he said he knew right away it was broken. the pin could come out in four to six weeks. our sister network espn reports

new details in the terror attack in southern france. the police officer who offered himself up in exchange for a hostage has died of his injuries. the officer's mother said she was not surprised by her son's courage. police say yesterday morning the gunman killed four people, then was shot and killed by police. overnight a 17 year old was detained in connectionit the investigation. police say he was a friend of the gunman. isis has claimed responsibility for the attack. this morning south korea says its invitation for high level talks has been accepted by north korea. the talks are set to take place next thursday in the demilitarized zone. they're viewed as a primer for an april summit. it has been three years since matthew muller kidnapped denise huskins. we have covered this story from the beginning and has new

from prison where he's serving 40 years on federal kidnapping charges. he'll be facing robbery and false imprisonment charges. the couple doesn't think he hacke acted alone. >> fears of a tesla battery exploding kept a busy freeway closed for six hours following a deadly crash in mountain view. we were on 101 after a sttesla burst into blames. two other vehicles hit the tesla. the tesla's driver died after being rushed to a trauma center. engineers worked with firefighters to make sure the battery had stopped burning before a tow truck could move the car. in the competitive bay area housing market, money talks. one family says singing set them apart. their bid was 20,000 below the highest bidder yet they have a new home in berkeley.

area winter weather advisory. two to five inches of snow. up to ten inches at the crest. slippery roads through sunday morning. northern lake county we're looking at a winter storm warning and also in the sierra nevada lake tahoe 12 to 16 inches of additional snow. up to 24 inches possible and this is through 9:00 tomorrow morning. so certainly some good news and as we go through the snowfall totals, it's been just an amazing month with an additional foot or so. so as you step outside, it's mild. a lot milder than it was throughout the afternoon. that was chilly. we are starting out with warmer morning and then the cold air moves in with the secondary system. ten degrees warmer in oakland. relative, i know. so three degrees warmer in san francisco. seven degrees warmer on the coast. a live look outside. good visibility here. there's fog in the north bay. scattered showers today. second system moves in late tonight. first system the one i showed

you is exiting this morning. looking at spotty cold showers through tomorrow morning low snow levels. and then sunny and warmer throughout the week ahead. it's a one on our storm impact scale. weak system, scattered showers, a possibility of a thunderstorm. there goes the first system. the bulk of the day today will be mostly cloudy. a few sunny breaks but we could see an afternoon thunderstorm. here comes the next system. it's even weaker. this will fall apart as it pushes through the bay area. here we are tomorrow morning. scattered showers and then by the afternoon, we're into some sun. rainfall totals so far this morning about a tenth of an inch. we add in the rest of today and tomorrow and we're looking at perhaps 0.2 in oakland. a couple hundredths up in napa. if you like warmer weather, look at what's on tap for the week ahead. today in santa rosa 54 degrees. by next thursday, into the 80s. 55 in san francisco. 57 in fremont today.

>> this student continues to work on his speech for the rally and march in san francisco. his goal is to capitalize on the momentum to change gun laws. >> this comes once in a lifetime and it will be -- it's of the essence to capitalize it at this moment and make sure everybody sees it. much of the national spotlight will be on washington where students and supporters are already arriving, the san francisco march will draw 100,000. potential speakers competed by doing video auditions. >> a number of students from across the bay area submitted videos and that's how we were able to choose. we'll hear from, as i said, age range 12 up to 21 years of age. >> both in san jose and san francisco organizers have trained volunteers to handle security. others will handle medical emergencies. about $40,000 has been raised to cover expenses in san jose. david louie, nbc 7 news.

firestation on second street running from 10:00 to 2:00 this afternoon. president trump announced the administration will issue a new rule banning bump stocks making it easier to fire rounds quickly from a semiautomatic weapon. the move came four months after a gunman in las vegas used a bump stock to fire down on concert goers killing 58 people in the deadliest mass shooting in modern american history. president trump has issued an order banning most transgender troops from serving in the military. last year the president called for a total ban but it has been blocked by several legal challenges. the latest order allows for transgender people to serve under "limited" circumstances. history is on the line in oakley. a vineyard surrounded by housing developments is for sale for $5 million. it's been in one family for generations but now two brothers are reluctantly selling.

some wet weather. also around the south end of the bay here from mountain view and as you go toward freem showers. we're looking at cold snow and rain heading our way late tonight into tomorrow and currently blue canyon looking at heavy snow. south lake, it's not snowing. we'll look for the winter weather advisory to continue for the west slopes until 5:00 tomorrow. two to five inches of snow with ten inches near the crest and a winter storm warning for the greater lake tahoe area until 9:00 tomorrow. 12 to 16 inches of snow. possibly up to two feet. if you're planning on going, really going to have to pay close attention to the forecast. maybe wait until later on sunday. anywhere from just a few inches south lake to a foot up in donner. more is coming. this is good news. they did have rain with the system that arrived last week. the forecast snow showers today. 32 tomorrow with snow in the morning. then turning partly cloudy.
