good morning. it is saturday, march 24th. let's start with a quick look at the forecast. here's meteorologist lisa argen. a little rain out there. it's not too much. >> that's right. good morning. we're talking a few scattered showers mainly in the south bay and the east bay it's a 1 on our storm impact scale. weak system sliding through the bay area right now. another one tonight into tomorrow morning with scattered showers, low snow levels through tomorrow and the possibility of an isolated thunderstorm. so for mountain view over to fremont and 880 into the santa cruz mountains, that's where we have some of the activity. highway 84 across the south end of the bay 880 and 680 around warm springs boulevard and through mill creek road visibility in the north bay behind the system is certainly impacted. a quarter mile to a half mile. 30s from cloverdale and 47 in livermore and we're looking at

temperatures today to stay well below average. 10:00, 40s and 50s. by 2:00, we're in the mid 50s and here comes that next system. it's certainly a weak one. if you're heading out tonight, you could get your head wet and as we go through your sunday, things do brighten up. we won't warm up until later on in the upcoming workweek. alexis? >> thank you, lisa. hundreds of thousands of people are expected for today's march for our lives. marches are planned across the country including here in the bay area. you can see on the map there are several including san francisco, oakland, and san jose. the event is in response to the deadly mass shooting last month at marjory stoneman douglas high school in parkland, florida. students want lawmakers to address gun laws and school safety. among the people you might see is warriors coach steve kerr. he was asked before last night's game if he was going to attend one of the marches. >> i think i'll stay right here in oakland and i haven't quite planned it out yet. i think my family and i will take part in the oakland.

>> some of the students and parents from stoneman douglas high school flew to washington, d.c. on the new england patriots plane. lyft is providing free rides at 50 of the events including san francisco, san jose and oakland. the company is providing $1.5 million worth of rides. each ride has a max cost of $15 which amounts to 100,000 rides. this morning any available ride codes will be listed on lyft's vied page. for a heads-up about transit impacts where you live, go to abc7news.com. san mateo police need your help to find man who wanted to buy a gun and shoot up a school. it was r was r was could not find him. witnesses did not find his statements to be credible but they want to identify and locate him. he's described as a transient and about 35 years old.

tensions escalated until sacramento when protesters pounded on a police car. people marched peacefully earlier in the night to protest the fatal shoot are by police of an unarmed black man. >> this marked the second night of protests after police released body camera video showing officers killing clark last weekend. one man called for changes in how police deal with citizens while marching toward the state capit capitol. >> we have to be the state that will stake a stand and have police reform. >> demarcus cousins says he'll pay for clark's funeral. we're now getting a look inside an east bay high school that went on lockdown after a student was suspected of bringing a gun to campus. you can see students hiding down low yesterday afternoon in a picture shared on twitter.

sky 7 flew over san lorenzo after the sheriff arrested a 15-year-old boy. deputies say he had a gun and they credit other students for alerting them. developing news out of contra costa county. three people in the hospital this morning after the car they were in went down an embankment. it happened around 11:45 last night on highway 4 in bay point near willow pass road. firefighters say a man was driving with two female passengers, two suffered major injuries and one is in critical condition. it is unclear why the car left the roadway. now to the fiery crash and explosion this week at travis air force base. the fbi revealed the identity of the bay area man who breached security gates and ignited explosives in his vehicle. but they don't know why he did it. abc 7 news reporter cornell barnard has the details. >> cell phone video captured the fiery moments after black suv breached the main security gate at travis air force base wednesday and exploded.

the driver was killed. >> now the question is why? why was he there? >> the fbi in sacramento searching for a motive. the driver identified as 51-year-old hafiz kazi, a civilian with no connection to the base. what investigators found inside his suv was chilling. >> five propane tanks, there was a gym bag with personal effects, three phones, three plastic one gallon gas cans and several lighters. >> that kind of freaks me out. >> teddy lives not far from where hafiz kazi recently lived. the fbi came knocking yesterday. >> he showed me a picture of some guy. i told him i've seen him. >> kazi was a limo driver. a neighbor told us off camera that kazi was an old friend who used his address to get a driver's license. he said that suffered with mental health issues but never talked of

harming hiharm ing himself or others. >> we're trying to piece together his life and what led up to this event. >> the fbi says there was no known threat to the base or the fairfield community. cornell barnard, abc 7 news. two major injuries to two star players. yeah. it may alter the warriors postseason and the giants regular season. steph curry suffered an mcl sprain in his left knee after mcgee fell into him. curry will have an mri today to determine how severe it is. he had just returned to the court after missing six games with an ankle injury. and giants ace madison bumgarner will undergo surgery today to insert a pin in his fractured pinky. he was hit by a line drive in his pitching hand during the giant's final preseason training game yesterday. the pin could come out in four to six weeks. our sister

south korea's president. it's been three years since matthew muller kidnapped denise huskins. huskins and her fiance aaron quinn were on "20/20" last night for an exclusive interview. >> for three years, denise huskins says she was the woman behind the blindfold, the woman the vallejo police department accused of making up her own abduction. in march of 2015, matthew muller broke into her now fiance's home. >> i remember thinking this is a really bad nightmare. he spoke to me a lot. he shared with me that he just had a difficult time in his life and so i kind of shared with him something that happened when i was younger hoping maybe that knowing that i've already been assaulted that he won't want to

table next thanksgiving. in santa rosa, wayne freedman, abc 7 news. happening today, a home coming parade and festival honoring the u.s. army. the city of san mateo adopted the division 50 years ago during the vietnam war when anti-war protests were prevalent. about 50 members from the division are in the bay area this weekend for several events. the parade starts at 11:00 this morning followed by a festival at noon in central park. good morning, everyone. a weak system pushing through the bay area this morning while you were sleeping dropping some rain from the north bay now its exiting the south bay. really not much left of it. as we go in for a closer look, you can see just random shower here by paige mill road and east bay sprinkles pushing out of mi milpitas and fremont. elsewhere yet to arrive and

that's why we have in greater lake tahoe area a wind weather advisory. anywhere from two to five inches of snow until tomorrow morning. in lake tahoe, a winter storm warning with 12 to 16 inches of snow to come. looking at up to two feet possible. we are looking at some more snow and with it it's a cold system. that's good. we had the rain. we had snow. then snow. now back to snow. so certainly some difficult conditions but as you get through the rest of the weekend, it should be pretty good out there. two to nine inches for many locations. so today snow showers, 35. it's 30 right now. 32 tomorrow with morning snow and then partly cloudy in the afternoon. monday should be a nice day in the mid 30s. upper 40s for you in oakland, fremont. 42 in napa with colder conditions up toward ukiah. we're two to about eight degrees warmer this morning with the cloud cover and that weak system pushing through the bay area

keeping us slightly milder so scattered showers mainly a cloudy day today but then by late in the afternoon today some spotty showers north. the snow levels lower. and we're looking at a wet start to your sunday but partly cloudy in the afternoon. one on the storm impact scale for today and into tomorrow and that will allow for not only that weak system but behind it the low snow levels, 2,500 to 3,000 feet and isolated thunderstorm is possible. so here we go with this system. forecast models pretty much on the money with that one. and then as we go through the afternoon, here comes the second system. really falls apart as it pushes through the bay area. tonight i wouldn't be surprised if you see a few sprinkles in the city in the south bay and then toward the morning hours as the colder air moves in behind, yes, still the opportunity for some rain and then by 11:00, it still is a chilly day but at least we get some sun. so far we have seen since yesterday about a tenth of an inch and then going through

i'll feel safe anywhere. >> his friend was one of the victims of last month's shooting. >> it's so frustrating because he should still be here. they should all still be here. >> reporter: the sadness and anger shared by demitri, a senior at marjory stoneman douglas high school who told lawmakers -- >> i say enough is enough. >> our voice are loud, our voice are clear and our voice is about to change history. >> reporter: the students are not fighting for change alone. from the new england patriots lending their plane to victims and their families to lyft giving out free rides. the event itself three hours with featured musical acts including this song inspired by the movement. ♪ tomorrow they'll are more of us telling the story of tonight

♪ >> that's what this is about that nobody forgets his or the other 16 people's names. >> reporter: marching along pennsylvania avenue with a powerful message to the nation. the official start time is still about 2 1/2 hours away but thousands have already gathered here this morning and they are making sure their message is heard by lawmakers and that they are not going to be going away quietly. they expect about half a million here in d.c. and there are going to be 800 sister marches across the nation. live in washington, serena marshall, abc 7 news. alexis? >> david louie spoke to students in the bay area about their plans. >> reporter: this is where from 10,000 to 30,000 people are expected to turn out for san jose's march. they've been raising money to rent a stage, a sound system and barricades by selling t-shirts and accepting online donations. a congresswoman will be one of a dozen speakers. >> we want each speaker to come and give us their take on the gun violence issue and make this

event platform for those who have different ideas about how to go about it because we know this issue is divisive. >> reporter: with only a few hours to go, this 21 year old continues to work on his speech. his goal is to capitalize on the momentum to change gun laws. >> this comes once in a lifetime. it will be -- it's of essence to capitalize it at this moment and make sure that everyone sees it. >> much of the national spotlight will be on washington where students and supporters are already arriving, the san francisco march is expected to draw 100,000. potential speakers competed by doing video auditions. >> a number of students from all across the bay area submitted videos and that's how we were able to choose. we'll be hearing from, as i said, age range 12 all of the way up to 21 years of age. >> reporter: both in san jose and san francisco, organizers have trained volunteers to handle security.

they'll be called global ambassadors. still, others will handle medical emergencies. about $40,000 has been raised to cover expenses in san jose. david louie, abc 7 news. in san jose, marchers will gather at 11:00 a.m. at city hall. at 11:30 they'll begin marching to arena green where there will be a rally. at san francisco, people will gather at 1:00 p.m. at civic center plaza and march down market street and in oakland people will gather at 10:00 a.m. at noon they'll march along 14th street to lake merritt and around the lake and you are encouraged to take part. for a complete list and heads-up about possible traffic and transit impacts where you live, go to abc7news.com. happening today, santa cruz county will hold a gun buyback program. $50 will be offered in exchange for rifles and shotguns. $100 for handguns and $200 for assault weapons. there will also be two buyback

locations. one at the sheriff's office and another at the south county watsonville firestation on second street. it runs from 10:00 until 2:00 this afternoon. history is on the line in oakley. a vineyard surrounded by housing developments is for sale for $5 million. it's been in one family for generations but now two brothers are reluctantly selling. abc 7 news reporter leslie brinkley has the story you'll only see on 7. >> reporter: joe and his wife arrived in oakley from italy in 1911 and promptly bought land. >> it was ten acres with two barns and a house and they purchased it for $10 in gold. >> reporter: in 1930, frank says they bought this ten acre parcel with vines for just $4,000 and six generations have lived off the land ever since. the grapes are still bought up by wine makers.

there's a cell tower disguised as a water tower and the house he grew up in. >> it's a small farm anymore. you can't really make a living on it. >> the vineyard is surrounded by tracks of homes, commercial and retail. the commute traffic starts early and runs late. the new generation doesn't want to farm and a farm doesn't seem to fit in. >> you're surrounded by people that do not understand what farming does and now we're getting restricted on when you can burn your brush, what time you can start your tractor up. a lot of kids nowadays don't know where their food comes from. >> i can't work the ranch no more. and he's getting to where it's getting harder for him, so we thought it best thing to do was to sell it. >> it's been in the family for, like, 90 years. i mean, that's history. he told me he's ready to move on. >> reporter: the asking price is $5 million. so far it looks like the grapes are going to go with buyers

mcgee falls into curry and his left leg. you can hear the crowd grown. curry in a lot of pain. he left the game. the team announced he sustained an mcl sprain. warriors win 106-94 and steve kerr is remaining optimistic. >> i definitely do not have an ominous feeling. i feel disappointed for steph mostly tonight. you know, we'll see how long he has to be out. >> bruce bochy said losing madison bumgarner is horrible news for us. he'll have a pin inserted in his fractured pinky. the giant's ace broke the finger in the third inning of the final spring game when he took a comebacker off his pitching hand. less than a week away from the season opener, the giants are now without two of their top three starters. they lost one wednesday due to a

pectoral sprain. bumgarner believes he'll return before the all-star break but doesn't believe the injury was avoidable. >> it's hard to control your reactions when something is happening that fast. obviously i wish i wouldn't have. i rather have taken it off the chest or most anywhere else. you know, that's what happened. >> and this is exactly how we felt about the sweet 16 game between cardinal and top seed louisville. eight consecutive misses on one possession. they could not get the ball in the bucket. williams had been so strong all tournament but only 3 for 11. cardinal 5 of 16 from range. late in the third quarter, swatted away and stanford's season is over. louisville goes on to the elite eight, 86-59 the final. stay tuned to abc 7 sports

today. mike will have updates and all of your sports highlights. until then, have great day. hi there, everyone. good saturday morning. you can see we have a good deal of cloud cover behind us. a system moving through while you were sleeping. you can see the clouds a little bit left of it. we're setting our eyes on another system that moves in late today into tomorrow bringing cold showers, low snow levels. look at the temperatures today in san jose. just in the upper 50s. average high is 66. we'll slowly get there the beginning of the week. even sunshine tomorrow. but not a lot to warm us up. look at what happens wednesday, thursday, friday. north end of the by a aay and s end in the 80s. can we get anything right? we look outside and we see partly cloudy skies, some fog,

some damp pavement. and we're looking at mild temperatures. here's the system already rapidly pushing through the bay area. you can see a few scattered showers from the peninsula, san francisco, over toward liverm e livermore. the cold system on the way. it's mild in the mountains. in the 30s right now. but we have a winter weather advisory for the greater lake tahoe area from south lake two to five inches of snow and through tomorrow morning 9:00 we're looking at maybe a foot to foot and a half in some spots. more snow late tonight into tomorrow. so if you're planning on going into the mountains, looks like the afternoon on sunday to monday some pretty good skiing with 9 to 12 inches of fresh, dry powder. it's been wet. it's been rainy and finally some pretty good snow arriving on top of what we already had. this is santa cruz where you can see the clouds 48. san francisco, oakl

a neat looking shot to the north in santa rosa. 39 in napa. here's a look at the mountains where we're looking at some pretty good conditions for once. it's been a long winter for folks. scattered showers today. spotty cold showers through tomorrow morning and then looking at sunny and warmer weather as we get into the latter part of the week. it's a 1 on our storm impact scale today through tomorrow morning. snow levels 2,500 to 3,000 feet. isolated thunderstorm possible today into tomorrow. there's the first system. so bit of a break with the clouds mixed with sun. here's the next system late today pushing to the south. it does fall apart as it pushes through but cold air behind it allows for more showers perhaps into early tomorrow ending by about noontime so we add in today's totals, tomorrow's totals and they're not a lot but anywhere from a couple hundredths two 0.2. a scattered shower in fremonfre.

>> there's this thing scanning the aisle. >> reporter: using technology similar to a self-driving vehicle, robots have been deployed to scan aisles for out of stock items and mislabeled merchandise and incorrect prices at nearly 50 walmart stores across the country. the realtime data is passed along to employees who stock the shelves. >> it's arming our associates so they have information to do their jobs better. >> reporter: the robe iots are produced in san francisco which is currently working with three other national retailers in addition to walmart. >> if i can take images of these shelves, can you mine those images to figure out the task? six years later we're successful. >> reporter: out of stock items are an issue for retailers since they miss out on sales but some customers expressed concern about the role of automation and the possibility of jobs eventually being eliminated. >> everything is an automated service so i don't know. it's starting to be a little bit scary. are machines taking over?
