>> if it can happen in parkland, it can happen anyplace there is the opportunity. >> reporter: it is a possibility that strikes fear in bay area parents. >> as a mother, it breaks my heart that i'm sending my children to school and they have to be afraid. >> reporter: politicians, city leaders and even warriors head coach steve kerr came out for the rallies. there were no signs of any opposition groups. rallies were also held in san jose, pacifica and santa rosa. at many of the events, students urged other teenagers to speak out and to register to vote. organizers say the mission is to demand that congress consider an effective bill that addresses gun violence. we saw the same action by young people all over the nation. abc news reporter david wright has a look at how survivors of the parkland shooting joined others in the nation's capital where organizers say some 800,000 people gathered. >> reporter: this is what

first bona fide well rescue, for sure. >> reporter: fremont battalion chief zbgary ashley's 24 years a drop in the bucket considering the brick-lined well is more than 100 years old, and the man trapped inside, 92 years old. ernest silva says he checked the pump and was dropped 26 feet below. >> i was impressed with his stamina to tread water that long. >> reporter: this is a busy street and there are homes surrounding this one-acre plot. but to give you some perspective, the pump house is behind that garden, so it is unlikely that anybody would have heard him calling for help. >> luckily somebody was home and was sharp enough to recognize that they hadn't heard from him in a while. >> reporter: silva was likely in the cold water for half-an-hour before getting help. a rescuer dropped in with a life jacket. >> this is the type of helmet we give him and life preserver. >> reporter: they cut the roof off the pump house to lower rope from the ladder truck.

anyone with information is asked to contact belmont police. over in the east bay, police are trying to identify a serial bank robber who's been targeting chase bank branches in the east bay. investigators say this man has robbed four banks in ten days. the robberies began march 10th when the chase branch on san pablo and mcdonald avenue in richmond was targeted. in the days that followed, the suspect has hit locations in em emmyville, oakland and berkeley. several landmarks all over the world dimmed their lights after the sunset last night to promote the fight against climate change. you are looking at what happened at one of the iconic structures guide be san francisco's skyline. the tower's brightest lights dimmed when the clock struck 8:30. and abc 7 news was at san francisco city hall which was lit up by orange lights to support yesterday's anti-gun violence marches. city hall also went dark to

support earth hour. this morning a memorial service will be held at golden gate national cemetery to xhom rate the 50th anniversary of san mateo's 101st airborne division of the u.s. army. yesterday abc 7 was on b street in san mateo for a parade honoring all members of america's military. in 1968, san mateo adopted the 101st airborne division at the height of the vietnam war. san mateo happened to be the only u.s. city at the time to embrace a military unit. >> i'm happy to see so many people out here to support these men and women who fight for our freedom every day. >> abc 7 news reporter david louis serves as the master of ceremonies for yesterday's parade. several current members of the 101st airborne flew in to the bay area from their home base. happening today -- if you are heading to oracle arena or

million. facebook ceo mark zuckerberg is apologizing to britons by taking out a full-page ad in british newspapers after a major breach of trust. it reads, in part, we have a responsibility to protect your information. if we can't, we don't deserve it. british investigators are now going through evidence seized from the london offices of cambridge analytica, the firm that is accused of improperly obtaining data from 50 million facebook users to manipulate elections. britain's information regulator received a warrant to carry out a raid at the offices. investigators spent seven hours yesterday leaving with boxes of evidence. the company is under investigation in the uk and the u.s. both cambridge analytica and facebook deny wrongdoing. this morning president trump and his wife, melania, are at mar-a-lago ahead of tonight's "60 minutes" interview with

you're never going to complain too much about winning. >> we'll see you again tonight at 5:00. have a great day. good sunday morning to you. nice to see the sun out there in emeryvil emeryville, we had an earlier shower this morning right about the time of the marathon, the race there in oakland. but right now sunshine is dominating much of the landscape though we've had some showers on the peninsula near burlingame and along the coast. but we are setting our sights on a much warmer and sunnier week ahead. today in concord, upper 50s so cool one. ten degrees warmer tomorrow. look what happens for the middle of the week. numbers climb quickly through the upper 70s. by thursday the warmest day of the week. how about some 80s for our friends in the inland valleys. santa rosa not out of the question, as well as san jose. we get a bit of an onshore push toward the end of the week. as we look outside from our roof came camera, you can see the build-up

of the clouds there. nice looking start to your sunday, though it is certainly on the cool side. live doppler 7, we've had some snow in the higher elevations. also looking at the showers that are over the hills here near the santa cruz mountains. really not a whole lot left of this system. as we go in closer, this was the activity around burlingame and los altos. as we put it into motion, showers will be infrequent as we continue to see this trend throughout the day, but they are not unlikely either. we could see an isolated shower throughout the day. so don't be surprised if you do see that. but most of you won't, and if you do, it won't last too long. it is sunny in the mountains. amounts over the last 24 hours were pretty impressive from squaw. 15 inches. alpine meadows 13 inches. homewood, 10 inches. north star picked up 9. pretty good news for the mountains. the water content is building there.

locally, 50% to 60% of normal for our rain for the season. not great but we did well for march. 45 in san jose and mountain view. this could be the last gasp of winter today. we'll go in the other direction so it is going to be dry the rest of the week with temperatures warming. right now, partly cloudy and a nice view here with low 40s santa rosa. some fog. 47 concord. 43 livermore. in the mountains, by the end of the week, it will be a lot warmer thursday and friday. those pop-up showers and those things that you can't really pinpoint but you see throughout the day there could be some in the santa cruz mountains, north bay hills. but overall it is partly cloudy, more sunshine on wednesday, mid and upper 70s. warmest day of the week should be around thursday. we'll be looking at numbers continuing to climb as we go into thursday afternoon. then a bit of cooling on friday. we're looking at a cool day

>> reporter: he's given ted talks and lit up the dance floor. ♪ all with his five-string electric violins. >> if i was caught in a fire i would make sure i grabbed my kids and then my violins, and that's it. >> reporter: kim had just finished playing the red cross gala here at city hall, sharing the stage with steve aoki. >> he is the biggest deejay in the world. >> reporter: then went to spend the time at a friend's near alamo square. >> came to the car in the morning and my violins were gone. >> reporter: he had a tile in his violin case, a little device that helps you find thing. years ago tile's founders explained what it was for. >> all types of bags, suitcases, musical instruments. >> reporter: with a little patient kim tracked his tile to a convenience store in daley city. he flagged down a passing police car. >> as soon as i saw the violins come out of the building i was literally in tears. >> reporter: police say it is happening more and more often. >> people tracking their iphones. people using the tile device to

track their vehicle or personal items that were stolen. >> reporter: because kim had already filed a police report and had tracked the tile to a specific address, the officers could investigate. they found the man who had the violins wasn't the thief. >> unwittingly people do buy things off the street. they think they found a bargain and more often than not it turns out to be stolen property. >> reporter: he returned the instruments and kim says now he'll put tiles on pretty much everything. >> i felt like my babies came back to me. >> reporter: jonathan bloom, abc 7 news. coming up, in full bloom. macy's annual flower show kicks off at union square. the theme o

happening today -- a spring tradition will be in full bloom at san francisco's union square. it is the official start of macy's 72nd annual flower show. the theme this year is "once upon a springtime." in the aisles you'll find enchanted forests, fairytale castles and mystical creatures. of course, flowers. 130 varieties, in all. next month some of the plants will be on sale with the proceeds benefiting the delancey street foundation. the show runs through april 8th. really beautiful. and it is feeling like spring. >> it is. isn't it? our garden's doing pretty well with all the rain. a chance to dry out later on this week. still a few showers out there today. live doppler 7 pinpointing most of them around the santa cruz
