shoulder. san mateo bridge, westbound 92, no gridlock yet at the toll plaza. but we have a disabled vehicle reported blocking one lane near the high-rise. we'll check on drive times at 6:10. thanks, alexis. an unusual situation where a catholic school will be under a shelter in place following the threat of a possible shooting. >> students will only be al to use restroom. mark keller has more. >> reporter: the threat made on friday night is having repercussions here on monday morning in san mateo. the principal at st. gregory catholic cool is having a shelter in place all day because of that threat. it's all because of this guy. look at this picture here. this is the guy that on friday evening san mateo police say a customer inside the big five sporting goods store in el camino real reported hearing this man comment to an employee he wanted to buy a gun. he then threatened to shoot up a

school and asked for a good shirt to wear. he's possibly transient, 35 years old wearing a camo sweatshirt and blue jeans. police arrived in minutes. they searched for the man but couldn't find him. witnesses didn't find the statements to be credible. but police want to talk to him still as a result of the threats. there was a message sent out to parents saying students will not be switching classes. the doors will be locked. she's following suit of the san mateo schools. this may seem extreme but they're doing everything they can to keep the students safe. reporting live in san mateo, matt keller, abc 7 news. thank you, matt. new this morning, a nasty crash in hayward in the area of clay witter road and diablo avenue. it looks like power lines came down on the car. we don't know the condition of the driver. although they said the driver had to be taken out and taken to

the hospital. please avoid the area. an investigation is under way >> students pushing for new gun laws after the school shooting will head back to school today following their historic march for our lives. >> new security measures in place. only clear backpacks will be allowed and armed officers will stand guard at each entrance. supporters and skeptics are discussing what's next. rick santorum stirred up controversy when he suggested that instead of pushing for gun reform, students should learn how to save lives during an emergency. >> how about kids instead of looking to someone else to solve their problem, do something about maybe taking cpr classes. >> organizers of the movement plan to travel the country this summer to register young voters. their policy goals include passing universal background checks and a ban on assault weapons. san francisco mayor mark farrell no longer supports a taser ballot measure supported by the police union. the reason is because the police commission used police use of

activists are calling for criminal charges against the two sacramento police officers involved in the shooting. in this morning, cal trans services back on track following an accident in palo alto. a train struck a vehicle at the railroad crossing on charleston road before 11:00 last night. no one was hurt. the vehicle was unoccupied and the passengers on board the train were okay. the train continued on an hour later. major breaking news to our live desk. the united states is now expelling 60 russian diplomats. also ordering the seattle consulate be shut down in response to u.k. spying case that we've been covering for some time now. the u.s., britain and other nations publicly blamed russia for the poisoning of a former russian spy and his daughter in the u.k. and they have actually taken similar measures expelling russian diplomat. i'm gathering more on this breaking news that just came

welcome back. at least 64 people are dead following a fire at a shopping mall in siberia. we're getting reports from witnesses that alarms did not go off. the fire broke out yesterday at the winter cherry mall in the city of kem row voe. witnesses say staff at the mall didn't arrange for any sort of evacuation. and this was the first weekend of school recess. it's a very popular attraction for families, kids, teens. officials have not said how many of those victims were minor. i've been checking throughout the morning. i can tell you i'm starting to see reports that at least dozens were children. now, the fire is still under investigation this morning. the video is stunning. i will let you know if we get updates. >> thank you, jessica. >> more than a half million dollars in taxpayer funds have been paid to settle sexual harassment complaints against california judges and court employees. that's the news from the judicial council. the policy making body for state

courts which serves as a lawyer for judges and court employees accused of misconduct. three complaints were made against judges, two against court employees. they were from several counties. new developments. south korea is renegotiating the auto trade deal with the u.s. to avoid tariffs on steel and aluminum imports. the u.s. will lift tariffs on south korean made pickup trucks in 2021 and exempt south korea from the steel and aluminum tariffs. in exchange, south korea will ease emissions standards for american vehicles. 25,000 american vehicles exported to south korea will not need to comply with domestic regulations. south korea is the third largest exporter behind brazil for steel. a beeper egg hunt was held in fremont on saturday for blind or visually impaired kids. they have beepers inside of

android users for years. the company says the information comes only from users who allow it. it's not shared with anyone. >> a spokesperson says it's used to improve people's experience when using facebook. the report came as facebook ceo mark zuckerberg apologized for the cambridge analytica scandal. he says we have a responsibility to protect your information. if we can't, we don't deserve it. they're accused of illegally obtaining data from 50 million users to manipulate elections. they raided the london office over the weekend. both facebook and cambridge analytica deny involvement. take a look at 47-year-old timothy cot letter. he tried to lure a young girl into his car on wednesday in larkfield. the girl refused to get in. he drove away. an at&t worker was able to help authorities track down his car. he was found at a local rescue

flashings fla. students know that change won't come easy. a san jose state university professor is encouraging. >> this is the signaling the fact that they're taking ownership. just as we saw in the vietnam war. >> many students say the next step is getting friends and classmates to register to vote. this morning, san francisco police are trying to figure out why a man stabbed a woman to death inside of a church. it happened at a chinese christian church on 19th and chester avenues. witnesses who spoke to us said they recognized the couple as man and wife. one woman who didn't want to give her name told us the attack happened in front of the pastor. >> she was just crying. all she said was that it happened directly right in front of her. it's traumatizingf it would have happened to anyone. that's just sad. >> the man then stabbed himself. he is hospitalized now in unknown condition. police say this could be a case of domestic violence. san francisco police are looking for an arsonist who set

fire to a church basement sunday morning. abc 7 news was at christ church lutheran in the sunset district as parishioners celebrated palm sunday yesterday afternon. their service was held in a building used for social events because the fire damaged the main church. arson investigators say the fire started in the base president and that this was no accident. >> they said that there were accelerant marks on the floor and it looked like the fire was intentionally set. >> flames gutted rooms by a preschool and the church's sunday school. there's no word how much the damage will cost to repair. >> you may want to fill up your gas tanks sooner than later. the a's follow through on its plan to charge giants fans for more. you'll see how it played out. you're looking live at the big board at the new york stock exchange. exchange. up 488 points

statements to be credible but police still want to talk to him. as a result of the threats, st. gregory's principal, laura miller sent out a message to parents telling them students will not be switching classes and classroom doors will remain locked today. the principal says this may seem extreme. but they're doing everything they can to make sure their students are safe. reporting live in san mateo, matt keller, abc 7 news. thank you, matt. the bodies of four americans killed by toxic gas in mexico are expected to be returned to the u.s. by wednesday. the parents and their two children died in their mexican vacation condo. mexican officials ruled that the cause of death was suffocating from inhaling toxic gas. investigators checked the gas stove and hot water heater to identify the gas. the deaths have the markings of carbon monoxide poisoning. no conclusion has been reached. update on two police officers injured in a shooting in austin, texas, overnight. at least one of the officers was

shot. another hurt getting away from gunfire. they remain hospitalized at this hour. they're expected to survive, though. the two were shot responding to a 911 call at a duplex. they knocked on a door. no one answered. as they were leaving, shots were fired at them. s.w.a.t. was then called in and police officers eventually shot and killed the suspect in this case. an investigation is under way right now. thank you, jessica now to your morning money report. one of the biggest gun sellers filed for bankruptcy protection after slow sales and increasing debt. >> remington outdoor has been one of the most famous names for 200 years. they announced the plan to file for bankruptcy last month. they plan to continue operation and reduce debt by $700 million through the chapter 11 process. they plan to stay in business. gas prices climbing towards the $4 a gallon mark. the average price climbed by $.07 a gallon. the bay area has one of the
