valley, westbound 580, dublin up to 39 minutes. we'll check on a minor crash in antioch up next. now breaking news. that breaking news in the last few minutes, facebook announced it's giving privacy tools a makeover. this comes after a lot of criticism over data practices. let me show you on my computer much here's a change to the account settings page. the before is on the left. and on the right is the way you'll now see it. facebook says it's trying to make the controls easier to find. when you finally get to the privacy settings, this is what you will see. to be clear, these changes won't affect facebook's privacy policies or the type of data it gathers from users. but the company is hoping its 2.2 billion users will have an easier time navigating the confusing privacy and security settings. reggie, we were playing around with this prior to the change. it was very difficult. >> it was. it was definitely not intuitive.

i'll be curious to play with this later and see if this helps. arrests on b.a.r.t. are up by 40%. there was a jump in theft and violent crimes. amy hollyfield is covering this live for us. good morning, amy. >> reporter: hi. good morning. kind of a mixed bag of news for b.a.r.t. let look at some of the numbers. first of all, let's look at the arrests. they say 1,730 arrests made by transit police last year. so that is a 40% increase from the year before. but people are still stealing electronics at a high rate. electronic thefts jumped 52%. there were 417 cases reported last year. we asked b.a.r.t. riders about the news. they tell us they're worried about more than just people's stealing on the trains. >> there's a lot of homelessness and everything else. the people they let on the

train. i don't like it. but it's the only way to get to work. >> do you feel you would like to see more officers? >> oh, yeah. i'd like to see a lot more officers on the trains. >> reporter: b.a.r.t. says it will be hiring more officers. they also have to deal with this spike. take a look at this one. 24% increase in violent crimes. they had 347 of those incidents reported last year. b.a.r.t. did see one crime, though, go down. there were fewer bike and cars stolen last year than the year before. the chief thinks making their officers more visible at the stations has helped to make a difference. they say they'll be hiring more officers and plan to use the new security cameras to help them spot the criminals, hopefully right after the crimes are committed. reporting live from the dublin pleasanton station, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. forethe second time in a

week, protesters blocked the entrance of golden one center before the sacramento kings game. they're demanding justice for stephon clark who was shot to death two police officers ten days ago. clark was suspected of breaking into cars. they thought he had a gun. it turned out, cell phone. >> you can hear the chants from protesters outside and inside of city hall including clark's brother. after several shouting matches and breaks, the council ended the meeting early. mayor steinberg tweeted that the council will not reconvene today as planned to honor clark's wake scheduled from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. attorney general becerra announced that the department of justice will join the investigation. counselors on hand at oakland tech high school after the sudden death of a student. >> 16-year-old junior jeremiah joyner died at his home last

thursday. he felt sick, went home, went to bed and never woke up. there was a notification letter sent to students and parents. a meeting was heated in santa clara over the soccer match at levi's stadium. some say it was out of control. the police department is calling it a success. katie marzullo has that. >> reporter: caught on video, a fight in the stands that almost ended with a fan being thrown over the edge. there were several fights in a short period of time which led to the decision to call in extra officers. that decision known as a code 20, was a first for an event at levi stadium. some members of the stadium authority voiced serious concerns about that. >> it was chaotic. people were scared. they called this 20. so it made a lot of people nervous. >> the police chief said there were 24 arrests and 50 people ejected. four people went to the hospital with minor injuries. for an event of more than 64,000 people, that's a win. >> i stand behind the decisions made to bring in the extra resources to make it a safe

event. >> a lot of the blame was aimed at the 49ers organization, not the police. >> they have a handful of bad actors. we addressed it. >> it was little consolation for people who live near the stadium. >> this group described as 150 drunken people. most were well-behaved, a few weren't. there were reports of people jumping on cars. >> they're looking at limiting drinking in the parking lot before an event. gates opened five hours before the mexico lsh iceland match. katie marzullo. a surprise decision about the controversial urban shield exercise after a long and contentious discussion, they approved it for in year. after that, no more. the debates centered around -- the exercise attracts local, national and sometimes international police every september in a two-day exercise. police agencies insist that it's all about learning to work together in unique

they spun out and sitting the wrong way on the right-hand shoulder. they believe someone else clipped them while spinning or caused them to spin out. chp on the way to the scene. no lanes are blocked and everything looking okay in that stretch. another check of the bay bridge toll plaza. stack-up in the cash lanes on the right-hand side. everyone else looking good. the metering lights should flip on in ten minutes. as we wait to hear the fate of hundreds of patients who had eggs and embryos compromised, in ohio, they say human error caused the failure. this happened an more 4th a pacific fertility center as well as the ohio clinic. in ohio, an alarm that should have alerted staff was turned off. more than 4,000 eggs and embryos were lost and patients say they feel betrayed. >> you know, we left our kids or our most precious part of ourselves with somebody and they promised to watch over them. >> again, no update on pacific

it's 5:13 on the dot. time to talk about the lack of rain. today all the way through next tuesday, not a single drop. with temperatures nearing record highs. i'll show you the numbers coming up in the accuweather seven-day forecast. here's reggie with more news. thank you, mike. new developments in a high-profile copyright case. a federal appeals court reversed a lower court's's ruling in this battle between google and oracle. it's a loss for google who tried to argue they used the -- to create the android system was protected under fair use copyright law. a judge in san francisco will determine how much google owes. oracle previously sought $9 billion in damages. a google spokesperson tells c c cnbc, this will make apps and online experiences more expensive for all of us. cook county, illinois, is suing the company for consumer

fraud. the county claims that cambridge analytica used illinois resident data to manipulate voters and they failed to stop it. this may have influenced voters during the 2016 presidential election. as president trump considers border wall prototypes, he's now suggesting the military should foot the bill for his project. sources say that behind closed doors, the president broached this idea with house speaker paul ryan. congress would need to sign off on this. senate minority leader chuck schumer called the plan a blatant misuse of military funds. uber ending testing on roads after arizona baber banned -- >> in the gma first look, this uber accident, the death of a woman in tempe could be putting the brakes on self-driving car development. testing in arizona for uber on hold now. this morning, uber won't renew

cars. >> it's humbling to make sure that the technology is moving at the right pace and not cutting corners. >> they told reuters that we should give uber a chance to explain exactly what happened. new details on plans to extend b.a.r.t. to san jose. time is running out for b.a.r.t. and the santa clara valley transportation authority to agree on building a tunnel that connects four new stations. vta has to make a decision by next thursday and b.a.r.t. has to approve it by april 26th to get about $1.5 billion in federal grant money. bta wants to build a single tunnel underground. officials say that wa fast track the project by ten months and not disrupt businesses. b.a.r.t. prefers a twin tunnel design kite citing safety concerns. backers of the he effort to repeal required thousands of voter signatures to get rid of

roads this morning. taking advantage of the nice weather and not heading into work or school today. here's a quick check of the north bay on the traffic maps. a little bit of fog on the visibility layer between santa rosa and san rafael. oh, about 45 minutes ago. but that really has thinned out. we are down to 3 miles of visibili for some points. we could see it at some point this morning. it looks like it's cleared out. a quick check of the richmond side of the san rafael bridge. no delays. a few vehicles keeping you company. mass transit looks great this morning too. ace rail 1 and 3 out on time. they're having an issue with gps train tracker for ace 1. it looks like it's not running but it is. it is on time. 43 b.a.r.t. trains in service and no delays. a heart stopping moment on a utah highway. so hard to watch. a car hit the highway patrolman on the side of the road as he was trying to help a driver.

he suffered broken rinbs and broken shoulder blade. the fact he's alive was in hysterics. that sergeant now talking about the incident. >> she came up while i was laying on the road and was kind of in hysterics and very apologetic. she's not to be vilified. she did make a mistake. i think she's learned from it. >> the trooper says the cars should have been traveling a lot slower on that snowy road. unbelievable to see him talking and looking great. >> i know. happening today, new environmentally friendly vans hit the streets of san francisco. >> they're fully electric. zero emission delivery vans. a full fleet is coming to san francisco today to begin a month long pilot test. they will welcome the cargo vans with a drive and ride event.

barrier may be to blame. matt keller has more in mountain view. >> reporter: good morning. the loss of live in this crash has been very tes tesla. overnight, they posted a blog on the website. they say one of the reasons this crash was so severe is the safety barrier known as a crash attenuator was not there when the crash happened this past friday. they say this image shows what the barrier on southbound 101 at the 85 carpool flyover in mountain view looked like when the crash attenuator was in proper condition. this is what it looked like the day prior to the crash. they say these pictures come from a witness of the crash who commutes daily past this location. tesla believes it was either removed or crushed in a prior crash without being replaced. tesla says they've never seen this level of damage to a model x in any other crash. the driver, 38-year-old way hong

charges to be filed against two police officers who shot and killed an unarmed african american man. >> thank you. >> tensions were high at the sacramento city council meeting after stephon clark's brother interrupted. it was supposed to be dedicated to the public and their response to the killing of the 22-year-old a week and a half ago. they believed he had a gun. he was holding a cell phone. he was shot in his grandmother's backyard. >> don't need no training. make them available for what they do. that's the kind of training you need. >> for people and communities of color, the legal and political system is unjust. >> sacramento's mayor says the council will not meet today out of respect for clark's family. they will be holding a wake today. >> new this morning, stormy daniels' attorney is looking to

depose president trump. a motion was filed in u.s. district court here in california by daniels' lawyer. according to paperwork, the deposition of president trump would be, quote, no greater than two hours. you'll remember daniels, whose real name is stephanie clifford, is a porn star alleging an affair with president trump in the year 2006. the white house repeatedly denied the pair's involvement. stormy daniels' lawyer want to depose michael cohen, president trump's long time personal a attorney. he's also the man who allegedly paid daniels to stay silent over the affair. this man who drove his suv into several people at the airport is facing felony reckless driving charges. the driver hit the gas and skipped the curb at oakland airport. the suv hit three pedestrians on the sidewalk outside terminal 1 and flying luggage from the crash injured a fourth person. officials say the 54-year-old man who was driving is unlicensed. >> able to quickly determine it

was an accident and that it wasn't something more sinister like a suspect trying to run people over intentionally. >> sky 7 is overhead as cars lined up on roads leading into the airport closed to traffic for more than an hour after the wreck while deputies processed the scene. the first trial following the north bay wildfires is set to begin on august 3rd. the lawsuit was filed by seniors who lived at the oakmont assisted living facility. seniors say they were abandoned by the staff as flames approach. melanie woodrow broke the story last year. the press democrat reports that the judge expedited the date of the lawsuit because of the advanced age. plaintiffs. a marin county judge tentatively lifted an order blocking the state from carrying out executions by lethal injection. in 2012, he ruled that officials failed to follow proper procedures in using a combination of three drugs to execute inmates. california now plans to use a single dose of powerful

barbiturates which a judge said -- nearly 750 inmates are on death row at san quentin. the last execution in california was in 2006. uber is paying $10 million to settle a discrimination suit. two women engineers claim that uber favored white men and asian employees over females and men of color. uber also agreed to reform its system for compensation, reviews and promotions. it will submit regular reports to the court on its progress. happening today, ac transit board of directors holding a pair of meeting on proposed changes as the agency prepares to launch service from the transbay transit center. >> it will begin double decker bus operations later this year. the first meeting in san francisco at the golden gate university, the second one in oakland at the offices at 6:00 p.m. never more than seven

a 72-year-old hiker who injured his leg is recovering after a dramatic helicopter rescue. the chp posted this video on facebook showing the tourist from new york city being hoisted 100 feet from the trail in napa county. he fell about 3/4 of a mile from the trail head at 11:30 yesterday morning. the rescue in gusty wind was necessary because the location was difficult to get to. the man's injuries are nonlife-threatening and should fully recover. driverless car programs are backing off from testing. one company is taking steps to advance its program. we've all probably returned we've all probably returned items after buy

"the new york times" released these satellite images supposedly showing a new nuclear

reactor in use. they say it produces electricity. but the times reports it could also be used to make plutonium, a fuel used in nuclear arms. a bay area sheriff is apologizing for breaching policies. lori smith admits i.c.e. agents interviewed four inmates in violation of county rules. smith says it happened earlier this month and was a mistake. the agents did not detain any of the inmates. smith says we value the trust and support we've earned with the local immigrant community and will not break that trust. san francisco sheriff apologized for a similar breach of policy. despite a deadly crash involving a self-driving uber, waymo is planning to launch a self-driving taxi service in phoenix. the company announced it will buy up to 20,000 electric cars from jaguar land rover, waymo says the engineers have been fine tuning the robotic technology and they've traveled more than 5 million miles on

public roads. at 5:45. stanford is asking for human volunteers to test a medical treatment for forms of cancer. it is part of a new wave of therapies that uses your own body to fight the disease without chemotherapy. there are two drugs used to attack tumors. it has cured tumors in 97% of mice in initial tests. researchers emphasize that it's not a cancer vaccine, it's not effective for all forms of cancer. stanford is planning to run two trials by the end of the year. a total of 35 test patients. children with cancer can become movers, shakers and makers. abc 7 news was at the children's hospital on the stanford campus for the unveil of what they're calling maker space. it's a high tech therapy unit giving inventive patients to use devices like a 3d printer. it's so engaging that they forget for a moment they're in a hospital. one of the inventions they've
