valley, westbound 580, dublin up to 39 minutes. we'll check on a minor crash in antioch up next. now breaking news. that breaking news in the last few minutes, facebook announced it's giving privacy tools a makeover. this comes after a lot of criticism over data practices. let me show you on my computer much here's a change to the account settings page. the before is on the left. and on the right is the way you'll now see it. facebook says it's trying to make the controls easier to find. when you finally get to the privacy settings, this is what you will see. to be clear, these changes won't affect facebook's privacy policies or the type of data it gathers from users. but the company is hoping its 2.2 billion users will have an easier time navigating the confusing privacy and security settings. reggie, we were playing around with this prior to the change. it was very difficult. >> it was. it was definitely not intuitive.

i'll be curious to play with this later and see if this helps. arrests on b.a.r.t. are up by 40%. there was a jump in theft and violent crimes. amy hollyfield is covering this live for us. good morning, amy. >> reporter: hi. good morning. kind of a mixed bag of news for b.a.r.t. let look at some of the numbers. first of all, let's look at the arrests. they say 1,730 arrests made by transit police last year. so that is a 40% increase from the year before. but people are still stealing electronics at a high rate. electronic thefts jumped 52%. there were 417 cases reported last year. we asked b.a.r.t. riders about the news. they tell us they're worried about more than just people's stealing on the trains. >> there's a lot of homelessness and everything else. the people they let on the

train. i don't like it. but it's the only way to get to work. >> do you feel you would like to see more officers? >> oh, yeah. i'd like to see a lot more officers on the trains. >> reporter: b.a.r.t. says it will be hiring more officers. they also have to deal with this spike. take a look at this one. 24% increase in violent crimes. they had 347 of those incidents reported last year. b.a.r.t. did see one crime, though, go down. there were fewer bike and cars stolen last year than the year before. the chief thinks making their officers more visible at the stations has helped to make a difference. they say they'll be hiring more officers and plan to use the new security cameras to help them spot the criminals, hopefully right after the crimes are committed. reporting live from the dublin pleasanton station, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. forethe second time in a

week, protesters blocked the entrance of golden one center before the sacramento kings game. they're demanding justice for stephon clark who was shot to death two police officers ten days ago. clark was suspected of breaking into cars. they thought he had a gun. it turned out, cell phone. >> you can hear the chants from protesters outside and inside of city hall including clark's brother. after several shouting matches and breaks, the council ended the meeting early. mayor steinberg tweeted that the council will not reconvene today as planned to honor clark's wake scheduled from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. attorney general becerra announced that the department of justice will join the investigation. counselors on hand at oakland tech high school after the sudden death of a student. >> 16-year-old junior jeremiah joyner died at his home last

thursday. he felt sick, went home, went to bed and never woke up. there was a notification letter sent to students and parents. a meeting was heated in santa clara over the soccer match at levi's stadium. some say it was out of control. the police department is calling it a success. katie marzullo has that. >> reporter: caught on video, a fight in the stands that almost ended with a fan being thrown over the edge. there were several fights in a short period of time which led to the decision to call in extra officers. that decision known as a code 20, was a first for an event at levi stadium. some members of the stadium authority voiced serious concerns about that. >> it was chaotic. people were scared. they called this 20. so it made a lot of people nervous. >> the police chief said there were 24 arrests and 50 people ejected. four people went to the hospital with minor injuries. for an event of more than 64,000 people, that's a win. >> i stand behind the decisions made to bring in the extra resources to make it a safe

barrier may be to blame. matt keller has more in mountain view. >> reporter: good morning. the loss of live in this crash has been very tes tesla. overnight, they posted a blog on the website. they say one of the reasons this crash was so severe is the safety barrier known as a crash attenuator was not there when the crash happened this past friday. they say this image shows what the barrier on southbound 101 at the 85 carpool flyover in mountain view looked like when the crash attenuator was in proper condition. this is what it looked like the day prior to the crash. they say these pictures come from a witness of the crash who commutes daily past this location. tesla believes it was either removed or crushed in a prior crash without being replaced. tesla says they've never seen this level of damage to a model x in any other crash. the driver, 38-year-old way hong

was an accident and that it wasn't something more sinister like a suspect trying to run people over intentionally. >> sky 7 is overhead as cars lined up on roads leading into the airport closed to traffic for more than an hour after the wreck while deputies processed the scene. the first trial following the north bay wildfires is set to begin on august 3rd. the lawsuit was filed by seniors who lived at the oakmont assisted living facility. seniors say they were abandoned by the staff as flames approach. melanie woodrow broke the story last year. the press democrat reports that the judge expedited the date of the lawsuit because of the advanced age. plaintiffs. a marin county judge tentatively lifted an order blocking the state from carrying out executions by lethal injection. in 2012, he ruled that officials failed to follow proper procedures in using a combination of three drugs to execute inmates. california now plans to use a single dose of powerful

a 72-year-old hiker who injured his leg is recovering after a dramatic helicopter rescue. the chp posted this video on facebook showing the tourist from new york city being hoisted 100 feet from the trail in napa county. he fell about 3/4 of a mile from the trail head at 11:30 yesterday morning. the rescue in gusty wind was necessary because the location was difficult to get to. the man's injuries are nonlife-threatening and should fully recover. driverless car programs are backing off from testing. one company is taking steps to advance its program. we've all probably returned we've all probably returned items after buy

public roads. at 5:45. stanford is asking for human volunteers to test a medical treatment for forms of cancer. it is part of a new wave of therapies that uses your own body to fight the disease without chemotherapy. there are two drugs used to attack tumors. it has cured tumors in 97% of mice in initial tests. researchers emphasize that it's not a cancer vaccine, it's not effective for all forms of cancer. stanford is planning to run two trials by the end of the year. a total of 35 test patients. children with cancer can become movers, shakers and makers. abc 7 news was at the children's hospital on the stanford campus for the unveil of what they're calling maker space. it's a high tech therapy unit giving inventive patients to use devices like a 3d printer. it's so engaging that they forget for a moment they're in a hospital. one of the inventions they've
