so that is quickly backing up with the typical delays getting out of the tracy area for folks heading towards altamont pass. the drive time should be in the red. westbound 580 tracy to dublin, 1 hour two minutes. probably going to get worse before it gets better. antioch to concord in the yellow at 21 minutes. no delays san rafael to san francisco. still tracking this breaking news. a fire in hayward at the america's best value hotel mere whipple road and the nimitz. we got this video about an hour ago. the flames should be out now. but you can see the fire trucks there, the firefighters on top of the roof. battling on the fire reportedly -- you can see plenty of people evacuate frd the hotel. take a listen to what this witness saw. >> so i got up and i looked. i looked out the window. the building was -- smoke coming

out the window. >> he's saying that smoke was coming out the window. the same witness saying that there was a large bang when some of the windows in the hotel were blown out. our team in the newsroom calling the hayward fire department for more information. i'll let you know as soon as we get more details. avoid the area if you live nearby. back to you. >> thank you, jessica. an investigation under way after a deadly crash at the sonoma raceway. a 75-year-old man died in an accident on the quarter mile drag stip. >> it happened during the night drag programs. people bring their own cars to the track and allowed to race after staff inspects each car. the man who died was driving a 1976 ford pinto and was going at least 100 miles per hour when he hit a wall. a raceway manager said that he was the only driver on the track at the time. >> this particular participant had a full roll cage. had all the proper harnesses and proper helmets and all the safety gear appropriate for his class. i think our safety record speaks

for itself as a tragic, tragic accident. we're grieved by it. >> the sonoma raceway says this is the first time in 30 years someone has died. three children from washington state are officially missing still after a crash that killed their parents and three siblings in mendocino county. the chp says the bodies of two women and three children were found monday after their suv went off a cliff over highway 1 north of ft. bragg. the sheriff calls the scene confusing, saying there were no skid marks and any indication why the vehicle ended up in the ocean. investigators believe all six children of the family were in the vehicle. one of the missing children has been identified as this boy. 15-year-old devante hart. a photo of him from 2014 went viral after a protest in portland, oregon. he was holding a sign offering free hugs. just days before the crash, washington authorities tried to visit the boy's home to investigate complaints of child neglect. angry parents at fremont are

making frustration with a sex ed curriculum loud and clear. they say possible lessons are too graphic for young students. it includes discussion about sexual orientation and hiv in fifth grade. the school board could make a decision on the curriculum next month. yesterday, parents protested before the school board meeting. >> very sexually explicit allot of them. especially since the curriculum is taught for fourth grade and up through ninth grade. >> supporters say the curriculum is vetted by experts and more information will help kids make happier, healthier choices in the future. parents would have the option to opt out. united states has a new ambassador to austria and he's from san francisco. the u.s. senate confirmed 49-year-old trevor traina this week. he graduated from princeton and has a masters degree from uc berkeley. his grandfather was ambassador to ausry i can't from 1975 to

welcome back. there's new video into the live desk this morning of malala yoe self-sigh. she returned to pakistan for the first time since she was nearly killed. she met with the prime minister and other government officials. she's been living in england since she was shot in the head by militants in the year 2012. malala has become an activist for girls' education rights. she's expected to spend four days in pakistan, but details of her schedule are being kept private. more armed security officers are patrolling u.s. public schools. the national center of educational statistics released a new study. >> found armed officers presents at least once a week in 43% of public schools during the

bay and inland neighborhoods. looks great. alexis, how is the traffic? >> not so great. things are starting to slightly improve here if you're going to be traveling out of the central valley into the livermore area. we had a sig-alert. only one lane getting by near greenville road due to a crash that cleared about ten minutes ago. boy, here's the bad news. jammed solid for 11 miles. 8 miles an hour on 205. 3 miles an hour heading through altamont pass. i did double-check all the nas. to the north of 580, it looks terrible. do not take that. patterson south of 580, looks decent. you have a chance to catch ace 5 or 7 out of tracy. either that or delay your trip. this is going to take a long time to recover. next traffic update at 6:40. thank you, alexis. palo alto police stepped up patrols looking for a man accused of attacking a young jogger. >> the attacker pointed a gun at the girl, pulled her off the bath and sexually assaulted her. matt keller is live in palo

alto. matt? >> reporter: natasha, what a horrible crime. a high schooler out for a jog on this path when a man pulled a gun, pointed it at her head, pulled her off the path and sexually assaulted her. he still hasn't been caught. this happened in broad daylight around 1:45 yesterday afternoon. this is a trail along deer creek road near tesla headquarters in palo alto. a passerby called 9-1-1 after the teen flagged them down. police searched the area for two hours but couldn't find him. he was wearing a black sweatshirt with a bear logo on it. he's about in his 30s. they're asking you to keep your eyes out for anyone acting suspiciously. >> we're following up on leads and asking if anyone has any information whatsoever, or if anyone saw somebody lurking in the bushes in that area at any point, please call us on 911 right away. >> reporter: the girl was treated at a local hospital.

police say she's in stable physical condition. it's unknown if she'll be able to help detectives make a sketch of the suspect. they're going to increase patrols in this area. reporting live in palo alto, matt keller, abc 7 news. matt, thank you. 6:32 now. happening today, the reverend al sharpton will deliver the eulogy for the african american man shot and killed by police. a wake was held yesterday. they claim that the shooting came at the end of a foot pursuit, that he was a suspect in several car break-ins. all officers apparently thought he had a gun when he was cornered in his grandmother's backyard. it turned out to be a cell phone. >> he's a good child. he wasn't a bad person at all. he didn't deserve this, i'm going to say it again. he did not deserve it. >> there have been protests almost every day since his death. the kings have warned there will be a significant amount of police in and around the center to keep protesters from reaching

the area for a third time. only on abc 7 news, a startling claim from the family of the man who died when his tesla crashed into a barrier on 101 in mountain view last friday. >> 38-year-old walter wong left behind a wife and two children. his brother tells the iteam's dan noyes that walter complained to tesla that his model x veered toward the same barrier on seven to ten occasions while on autopilot. the dealer was unable to duplicate the problem. dan noyes spoke with the ntsb from their washington headquarters. >> the family is telling me they provided an invoice to investigators that the victim took the car in because it kept veering to that exact same barrier. how important is that information? >> that information has been received by the chp. they've been acting on it for some time now. >> tesla tells the iteam they can only find a complaint from walter wong about the suv's navigation. the company says that's unrelated to the autopilot

system a that allows the vehicle to drive itself. you can see more of our exclusive investigation at abc7news.com. this morning, a man who plowed through five pedestrians and drove away from the scene is in police custody. one of the men struck in the hit and run has died. mark dennis was arrested. it happened in a dog patch neighborhood at 24th street and illinois. it's unclear what triggered the incident. but witnesses say dennis was acting erratically before he struck the men down. banging on his windows, throwing things, even getting out of the van and chasing them with an ax. >> he backed up really fast, the van driver, turned around and just went head on through the men like they were bowling pins. >> dennis has been booked on suspicion of murder and assault with a deadly weapon. happening today, san francisco police will hold a town hall meeting to answer questions following a deadly shooting involving an officer. a man was shot and killed and an officer shot in the leg when

gunfire erupted inside a barbershop last week. you can see him crawling away there in the video. >> police were checkin out reports of a man with a gurn. officers ended up shooting and killing that man. four others were wounded in the gunfire. abc 7 news learned that the officer will be okay. tonight's meeting begins at 6:00 at balboa high school. happening today, a man who drove his suv into several people at oakland international airport is expected in court. juan pablo of oakland faces felony reckless driving charges. investigators say he didn't have a license and told them he didn't really know how to drive. police say pablo's vehicle jumped a curb and crashed into terminal 1 on tuesday. four people were hurt. pablo got his foot stuck on the accelerator. the crash backed up traffic headed to the airport for several miles. 6:35 now. b.a.r.t. wrestling with a new problem. shared bikes left on sidewalks or platform, it's creating hazards and eyesores. look at this. rental bikes scattered on the

ground at the south san francisco b.a.r.t. station. this has been a problem since lime bike rolled out in several bay area cities. because they self-lock, the idea is you can leave them anywhere. the lime bike released this video based on the matrix to discuss on parking etiquette. it's working on an agreement with b.a.r.t. to clean up stations. all right. never more than seven minutes away from your accuweather forecast. the latest drought monitor data just came out a little over an hour ago. you can see the eastern third of the bay area still in the beginning stages of the drought. let's see how the rest of the state fared. we'll compare it from last week to this week. so last week, you can see we had red around the l.a. basin which is an extreme drought. that's moved a little farther to the south and east since they had so much rain while we did. the rain we had didn't do much for us. it did take away a little bit of the drought. here's temperatures out in san francisco.

the heater, we turned it off in my house. we're going to enjoy this weather for a while. looks like a pattern going. nothing going on in traffic until we get to about 5:45, 6:00. then everybody is waking late, heading in. >> we have a pretty significant issue. sky 7, you're showing pretty colors. i had to try to one-up you. >> you did. >> heading to livermore, we're showing you the pretty stuff before the ugly stuff. just a major crash that we had on westbound 580. right around greenville road. you can see a peek at the backup here. about 11 solid miles of gridlock as you leave the tracy area and head towards livermore. all lanes are back open as of 15 minutes ago. traffic is starting to pick up here. but a little bit further out in the central valley, it's really bad. i'll show you what that looks like on the traffic map. the closer you get to that crash, obviously, it's starting to get better. on 205 and 580 in tracy, you're

moving along at three to five miles an hour. that will take a while to recover. one other problem. i quickly ranted to mention. the richmond side of the bridge, on 580, we have a signal issue. stoplights out on richmond parkway. if you're trying to use richmond parkway to get to the bridge, don't do it. there's major delays through those intersections as well. next traffic update in less than ten minutes. just coming in from florida, zachary cruz, the brother of the suspected florida high school begun man pleaded no contest to a trespassing charge and he's been sentenced to time served and six months probation. this trespassing charge comes after he was caught on the stoneman douglas high school campus after being told not to kb there. he pleaded no contest and the judge ordered him enrolled in therapy as well as wearing an ankle bracelet. she also says he cannot possess
