with south korea until an agreement is reached with north korea. he called it a very strong card as he prepares for a meeting with kim jong-un. >> maybe it will be good and maybe it won't. and if it's no good, we're walking and if it's good, we will embrace it. but it's going to be very interesting over the next period of time. >> the president is expected to meet with kim in may about getting rid of the nuclear weapons. no specific date or location has been set. a new legal setback for stormy daniels, the porn star suing president trump. a judge denied her request to expedite the jury trial, saying it's premature. claims the agreement she signed to keep quiet about her alleged affair is invalid. daniels' lawyer says he's encouraged by the language and ruling and plans to refile later on. they're proposing all visa applicants be forced to hand over five years of social media history.

>> reporter: but three of the children are missing, possibly swept out to sea, including 14-year-old davante. you might remember him from this viral photo hugging a police officer during the turmoil of the ferguson, missouri riots. friends describing them as a loving family. as investigators piece together what happened to this eight-member washington state family, we're learning neighbors called child protective services after one child said he was hungry and asked for food. >> was asking us to not tell his mom and hide it and put it by the fence so he could get to it. they were withholding food from him as punishment. >> reporter: police are executing a search warrant inside the home as they try to unravel the mystery of what led the family off the edge. we have also learned one of the parents was convicted of a misdemeanor domestic assault in 2010.

they're concerned because of the nature of the crash, many of their questions will never be answered. >> our thanks to matt there. the brother of the parkland shooter will spend 18 months in prison. he was arrested after they found him skateboarding at stoneman douglas high school. he's been ordered to undergo therapy and wear an ankle monitoring. he was told to never return to the school where his brother is accused of killing 17 students and educators. and the former teacher who sparked a long manhunt of running off with a 15-year-old student last year pled not guilty to charges of transporting a minor across state lines. now his lawyer has filed documents saying he wants to plead guilty. cummings and the girl disappeared from tennessee last march. they were found in california nearly six weeks later. the woman known as the serial stow away has been

>> announcer: from abc news this is "world news now." >> that made me a little hungry. >> a little bit. all right, we begin this half hour with a setback for stormy daniels. the adult film star suing president trump. >> a judge in los angeles denied the request to expedite the jury trial and depose the president and his lawyer, michael cohen, saying the request is premature. the lawsuit claims the agreement she signed to keep quiet with her alleged affair is invalid. daniel's lawyer says he's encouraged by the language in the ruling and plans to refile later on. president trump's inner circle just got a lot smaller. >> hicks was his aide that managed crisis after crisis. white house staffers say she had the ability to anticipate what the president wants, provide affirmation when he needed and have few repercussions. there was no send off for

david shulkin after he was fired by the president in a tweet. he said political appointees used the scandal over travel to limit his effectively. he insisted the trip he was criticized for taking was preapproved. earlier the president told supporters, things at the v.a. weren't moving fast enough. >> i made some changes because i wasn't happy with the speed with which our veterans were taken care of. i wasn't happy with it. we made a lot of progress, but i want to get them choice and they didn't give us choice. >> shulkin says he agrees with the president about the pace but he warned against privatizing the v.a. he says some forces are trying to profit over the care of veterans. jeff sessions will not appoint a second special counsel to investigate concerns by republicans. at least not for now.

the attorney general has been under increasing pressure to look at accusations of bias. the mueller investigation, the clinton foundation dealings and an obama-era uranium deal. instead telling members of congress a senior prosecutor will continue to evaluate whether such an appointment is necessary. now, breaking news from kentucky where an officer was killed by a man pretending to be a cop. hopkinsville, kentucky officer philip meacham was off duty when the suspect pulled him over, pretending to be a fellow officer. he opened fire and killed him. he took off in a stolen pick-up truck. he was located overnight in tennessee and killed by police. officer meacham was 38 years old. he was married with two children. and dozens of protesters marched through the streets of sacramento after the funeral for stephon clark. hundreds attended the funeral where reverend al sharpton gave the eulogy.

demonstrators are demanding charges be brought against the two officers who opened fire on clark. they say they thought he was armed. the sacramento police union is calling the officer's actions justified. a shooting during a traffic stop by a volunteer police officer is facing scrutiny in south carolina. reports say the man who fired the shots used to be a full time police officer two decades ago. authorities are determining whether he'll be charged with a crime. here is abc's steve osunsami. >> are you in a rush? >> no. >> speed limit is 25. i got you going left of center coming on to sunset. >> reporter: south carolina prosecutors poring over these police videos and deciding if someone needs to be charges. >> are there any kind of drugs in the car? >> no, sir. >> okay. i can smell a little bit of weed coming from the car. >> reporter: two of the men with guns seen in this routine traffic stop in south carolina are real police who never fire a single shot. but keep your eyes on this man a state constable who is essentially a volunteer, riding

along. >> i'm not stepping out of my car. for what? >> you want to step out of the car, please. >> what am i going to step out of the car for? >> reporter: the 28-year-old is refusing to get out of the white cadillac. the constable, whose day job is a pharmacist and identified here on a group website is seen here circling the car with his hand on his gun. >> sir, i need you to step out of the car. mr. flood, i need you to step out of the car. stop, stop, stop. stop! [ gun shots] >> flood puts his foot on the gas, mccoachen fires eight shots. three of them hit flood. >> listen. when someone tells you to get out of the car, listen to them because it could have ended worse. >> reporter: he still had a bullet in his chest. >> i deserve to be shot three times and can i have to live it for the rest of my life. >> reporter: they say he shouldn't have run, but a pharmacist shouldn't be pretending to be a cop.

>> this guy overreacted. he wasn't properly trained or supervised. >> reporter: normally, it takes months for the videos to release. the city released this one quickly because they wanted people to know their officers reacted correctly. they are trained not to shoot at moving vehicles. these volunteer programs are under the microscope. steve osunsami, abc news, atlanta. >> quite a powerful video and the officers obviously wrote up a report like they always do. we still have not seen that report. we're tracking a storm system bringing rain to the northeast. the radar shows the storm system slowly chugging its way from the golf coast. that same system spawned at least five tornadoes that tore across louisiana and texas. east texas is drying out after record rainfall hit austin in college station in san antonio. but flooding is a threat around houston area.
