good morning bay area. let's get up and get going. >> this is abc7 mornings. >> it's saturday, march 31st. good morning, and thanks for being us. ill chris nguyen. let's start with a first look at the forecast. here's meteorologist lisa argen tracking live doppler 7 for us. >> good morning to you. we have been admiring all the live cameras this morning. the fog is doing a number on parts of the city. here's a look from our east bay hills camera. you can see the city revealed from this vantage point. 52 downtown. 53 in oakland. 57 in mountain view, san jose. the coast, very limited visibility at 50 degrees. and from mount tam, the fog entering richardson bay there. 47 santa rosa and fairfield with 52 for our friend in concord. livermore checking in at 50. finally from our sutro tower camera you can see the sun and the clouds downtown. so plenty of 50s this morning.

by noontime we will still number the 50s at the coast with the fog. 70 inland. mid 60s around the bay. in the afternoon the fog clears. sunny downtown. cooler in the 60s. mid to upper 70s for above average readings today. sunday and monday we will experience a cooldown and rain for thursday and friday of next week. tesla confirmed a car was in auto pilot when it slammed into a collapsed safety barrier killing an apple employee last week. >> reporter: 38-year-old apple jeer and father of two walter wong died one week ago on his way the work when his tesla medical x slammed into a collapsed cushion that had collapsed in an accident the week before. basically like hitting a brick call. tesla says auto pilot was engaged with the distance set to

minimum. wong's hands were not on the heel for six seconds prior to the collision. the driver had five second and 150 meters of unobstructed view of the concrete divider with the crushed crash attenuator but the vehicle log shows no action was taken. >> the line in the pavement could be a problem. >> a science director and environmental start-up took me in his model x on the same route walter wong took to apple last week. he was heading in the same direction, noticed the break between the asphalt and concrete and those two white lines. the auto pilot guided the suv right into the barrier. >> you have to think like a computer. it didn't know. it has no logic. if there is a line, it sees a line it might think that's the lane. >> reporter: the safety barrier had been crushed in a prior accident. this is how it should be from google maps and its collapsed condition the day before walter wong hit it. that happened as i reported this

week, because an alleged drunk driver in a prius hit the smart cushion at 70 miles an hour. he walked away with mainor injuries. an attorney and consultant from safe dave.org tells me tesla bears responsibility for the failings of its auto pilot and automation poses new challenges for caltrans. >> we can imagine a day when all of our cars are in automated road going down the road and they all fail at the same place on the freeway. that raies the question at what point is caltrans responsible to make the road safe for automation. >> tesla says if you are driving a tesla with auto pilot hardware you are 3.7 times less likely to be involved in a fatal accident. >> walter wong's family has no comment on the release. they are in the process of hiring an attorney and making funeral arrangements. >> the california dmv has

received one application so far to conduct driverless testing. driverless cars becomes legal in california on monday. someone need to be monitoring the vehicle but don't have to be riding inside of it. there is no time line when the dmv will approve a permit after receiving an application. the family of stephon clark has hired a forensic pathologist to investigate. he found police shot clark eight times. six of those bullets hit him in the back. police had said that clark charged at them. he said clark survived several minutes after the shooting but police waited to give him medical aid. hundreds rallied last night. they marched to the golden 1 center downtown where the warriors play the kings tonight. there will be extra security. protesters rallied outside kings games twice already blocking

fans from being able to get in. former warrior matt barnes asked his old teammates to join a rally hours before the game. head coach steve kerr says his players are free to participate. >> i mentioned to our players yesterday that if they wanted to be part of anything that's going on it's something they should discuss. >> the march went on for more than three hours. there were no arrests. now to the news involving the wife of the pulse gun club. she is returning to her east bay home to be ryu united with her son after a jury in florida found her not guilty of aiding in the attack. >> reporter: a florida jury acquitted noor salman the widow of the pulse nightclub shooter. omar mateen killed 49 people and injured 58. >> we knew from day one she was innocent. and thank god it came out.

>> reporter: prosecutors had argued that salman knew about her husband's guns and his obsession with muslim extremist videos. they also toll a jury she was aware of her husband's plan to attack a location but her attorney said she was a simple woman with a low iq who was abused by her husband and knew nothing about his plans. >> this was a case where the more we learned the better noor salman looked. >> reporter: a statement read in part, she may not have known what day or what location but she knew. however, we were not tasked with deciding if she was aware of a potential attack. the charges were aiding and abetting and obstruction of justice. the couple's 5-year-old son has lived with his grandparents since salman's arrest. >> he comes every day and says hi to everybody. >> reporter: family says salman is heading back to the east bay the ryu night with her son.

neighbors hope she can start a new life. in rodeo, abc7 news. a bay area attorney is turning the tables on a law firm known for suing small businesses for veylations of the american with disabilities act. she is basically accusing the law firm of running a criminal enter fries. >> reporter: michele burnel had to make some changes at her mountain view hardware store of a being sued foye violation of the americans with disabilities act. >> we had to lower the signs. >> reporter: randy and tanya moore filed that lawsuit. it was one of five in mountain view, 14 houp across the state. like most burnel settled out of court for $20,000. >> i was thinking it was illegal. >> reporter: this attorney had a similar thought after the moores sued her parents over violations at their restaurant. they fought the case.

they won and she is now suing the moores under the rico act. >> i have never seen it used in this area of the law before. it's primarily used for mafia and drug traffickers. >> reporter: she alleges they lied in the case against her parents. >> mail fraud and wire fraud. >> this is a frivolous case. >> reporter: he is defending the moores. >> congress wants private enforcement of the disability laws. that's what this law firm does. it saves the taxpayers money. we don't have being buildings of enforcement personnel. >> reporter: the moores filed two cases to dismiss the case. the second was rejected earlier this month. so the case is moving into the discovery phase. this is redwood road in march of 2017 after part of it buckled due to the wet winter.

it is a link to the castro valley. the road work is wrapping up. according to the county the repairs cost $1.2 million. the bart simpson tagger has been arrested by san francisco police. 27-year-old tyler ross was taken into custody tuesday after witnesses say he tagged a building near the transamerica pyramid. police say he is responsible for this graffiti that popped up throughout the city. officers say spray cans were foud on him and the paint on his hands matched the paint used in the vandalism. state health officials are warning consumers not to eat mussels clams or scallops recreationally caught. the toxin can cause illness or death from humans and cannot be killed by cooking. eight other counties have warnings. it does not affect seafood bought in stores. time now 8:09 on this saturday morning. lisa argen is tracking the

then it comes back throughout the late afternoon. if you are planning on sun in the city it's going the take a while. but we will have it. by 10:00 you can see it's still cloudy out there. by 2:00, yes, we are sunny downtown. all around the bay with temperatures climbing through the 70s for much of our inland valleys. then tonight it should be a nice evening. still in the 60s at company. maybe a barbecue. and dry weather prevails for most of next week but not all. i'll detail the forecast coming up. chris? >> a, tha. president trump is calling out the oakland mayor for warning residents of an impending i.c.e. raid last month. >> several of the illegal aliens that got away in oakland of a the mayor helped them avoid capture committed new crimes, crimes that could have been prevented if not for oakland's dangerous sanctuary policies. >> in his weekly address the president urged congress to cut

off funds for sanctuary cities in a approximate you are to combat the deadly opioid epidemic. he says sanctuary cities release criminal aliens, including drug traffickers, dealers and gang members. the president announced the steps his administration is taking including drug supply. there is fallout from a twitter war between fox news host laura ingraham and a purr vifr of the parkland school shooting. more than a dozen advertisers pulled out of her show. the host is taking a vacation next week. >> reporter: four days after fox news anchor laura ingraham posted a mocking tweet about david hogg a survivor of the parkland shooting she says she is taking a break from tv. >> i will be off next week for easter break with my kids. we have got a line of hosts to fill in for me. >> reporter: hogg tweeted have healthy reflex this is holy week. ingraham earlier this week

taunted the high school senior who has been calling for tougher gun laws. tweeting david hogg rejected by four colleges to which he applied and whines about it. hogg fired back posting a list of advertisers, asking his nearly 650,000 followers on twitter to boycott all of them. many of the advertisers responded. the list of companies pulling ads now includes names like expedia, hulu, nestle, and johnson & johnson. 15 in total. ingraham, who had the fourth highest rated show on cable news in february issued an apology to hogg saying in the spirit of holy week i apologize for any upset or hurt my tweet caused him or any of the brave survivors of parkland. hogg isn't accepting. >> notice how she only issued the apology after a third of her advertisers dropped out. >> today is rex tillerson's last day as secretary of state. president trump fired him earlier this month citing zpreemts on north korea, the

iran nuclear deal, and ideas on trade. cia director mike pompeo has been nominated to replace tillerson who has said he will make sewer the transition is smooth and orderly. the foreign relations committee expects to start confirmation hearings for pompeo in april. the environmental protection agency is preparing to roll back rules requiring vehicles to be cleaner and efficient. the obama era regulations were put in place in 2009 after the government bailed out the auto industry. cross the country. many are awaiting an announcement from the environmental protection agency that could loosen regulations aimed at requiring automakers to nearly double the average fuel economy of new cars and trucks by 2025. the potential changes which could be announced next week are alarming to some. >> cars are 70% of our unhealthy air. we have got to have cleaner burning cars. and the cost of it is trivial. you know, in a new car, it is

virtually nothing. >> reporter: under the 1970 clean air act, california has special authority to enforce stronger air pollution standards than those set by the federal government because the state set its own regulations before federal rules came into play. but some say the trump administration could eventually take california to court to take away that right. this week the attorney general wrote on facebook, we are prepared to take whatever action, legal or otherwise, that we must to protect our economy, our environment, and the public health of people of california. >> 50% of everyone in the u.s. lives in areas where the levels of air pollution are unhealthful. and 95% of californians live there. so we know that regulation works. >> reporter: but by lifting what some refer to as a regulatory burden the epa is expected to argue that auto makers and consumers both stand to benefit as larger cars and trucks become more popular. in a blog most on medium, the ford executive chairman wrote we want one set of standards nationally along with additional

flexibility to help us provide more affordable options for our customers. and there is growing concern that if the u.s. were to loosen its restrictions, automakers could then push for more lenient standards elsewhere around the world causing more pollution by vehicles. taxi medalions cost a a quarter millions dollars in san francisco. but are they work it. a you uber and lyft take on an increasing share of passengers the taxi medalion's valley is decreasing. wayne freedman has more. >> reporter: owning one of these taxi meldsions use to be a symbol of success. now it's the opposite. >> if i know what's going to happen i never do it. >> reporter: do you feel like a sucker. >> i am. >> reporter: it used to be that taxi medalion were in limited supply a license to run your own business. in 2010 the city decided to raise money by selling 700 meldsions at $250 million each

before uber and lyft flooded the streets worth nothing. >> reporter: he figured he could make money with it. lease it eventually sell it. now he has a payment of $2,000 a it. >> i blame the city and the state, too. >> the hard working blue collar taxi drivers that have served the community here for many years have been left holding the bag. >> reporter: yoes he have represent somebody the san francisco federal credit union which made a deal with the transportation aings to finance those loans. one of sick has foreclosed. this week the credit union filed suit for $125 million. >> no one is suggesting exactly what the mta should have done. just that they needed to have done a whole lot more than they did. >> reporter: the city has no comment on the suit thus far except to say that they are reviewing i. from drivers, the reviews approximate owning a meldsion have been in for a long time. >> nobody will buy.

along theest could. et cetera a foggy along the central coast as well this morning. concord checking in at 52. from mount tam this looks like a familiar sight. the seasons seem to be mixed up with more of a summerlike look to it today. the numbers will slowly try to come down from the above average readings in the days ahead. mild and breezy for easter. rain returns late in the week. that's more like it. with spring showers and temperatures near average. not today. upper 70s from palo alto to fremont. 74 in san mateo. you will feel the breeze. mid 60s in half moon bay. 74 in san rafael. to the south end of the bay it's 81 for san jose. 81 in morgan hill. 78 in livermore. we will be looking at not only the slightly cooler day tomorrow but for easter sunday, san francisco is in the low 60s. here's the oranges, where it is warmer. look what happens on monday. high clouds and the oranges
