i've got two 9-year-old boys that look just like this and i fear for them. >> a former star athlete makes a pledge to put change in motion following a man's shootig death by sacramento police. hello, i'm eric thomas, thank you for joining us. demonstrators held a peaceful rally in sacramento today in honor of stephon clark, the unarmed man killed by police earlier this month. tonight there were concerns things might not be so calm as the kings host the golden state warriors. katie is live for us there tonight.

katie? >> reporter: eric, there's a large police presence around the golden one center. i'll show you some of the barricades that have been set up behind me. that is normally not part of the setup here. obviously the sacramento kings trying to prevent the shutdown of the entrances, which protesters have done successfully several times since the deadly police shooting. however, there are not any protests scheduled for tonight. earlier today, retired golden state warrior and sacramento native matt barnes held a rally for police accountability. this follows the deadly shooting of stephon clark back on march 18th. two officers searching for someone who is breaking car windows encountered clark in his grandmother's backyard. he was unarmed, only holding a cell phone, and independent autopsy report released yesterday showed officers shot clark eight times, six of which were in his back. the news sparked fresh protests last night. today barnes called for open dialogue between police and the community. at the rally he held clark's

sons, ages 3 and 1 onstage, as he announced a scholarship effort. >> we're going to get some accountability for the stuff that continues to go on and we're doing it for the kids right here. i'm in the process of starting a clark boys college scholarship fund to make sure these boys go to college. >> i think it's good. i think it's good that he's voicing his opinion and getting his word out there. anyone that wanted to join him the chance to join him and spread their word, so -- >> reporter: back at the golden one center, the recent protests certainly on everyone's mind but everything has been calm here today. earlier this week coach steve kerr said warriors players could join barnes if they wanted to participate. to be fair, it is important to note that warriors players on gameday are laser focused on the game, the task at hand. we have heard reports on social media that there may be a police support protest here tonight. however, that has not materialized. >> all right, katie, thank you very much.

other news now, today tesla drivers are telling us how they feel about the company's admission that one of its model x cars was on auto pilot during a fatal crash on highway 101 eight days ago. abc 7 news reporter alyssa harrington has the story. >> reporter: tesla drivers and passengers at a charging station in mountain view tell me they still feel safe in their cars, despite last friday's deadly crash involving a model x. >> that accident that happened is just beyond me as to how it could have happened because the car alerts you to everything. when we back up, it tells you. when you get too close, it tells you. when we're making a turn, it tells you. >> reporter: tesla revealed the car was on auto pilot when it crashed. a statement released late friday said the driver had received several visual and one audible hands-on warning earlier in the drive and the driver's hands were not tee tektd on tdetected for six seconds prior to the collision. >> usually the way it's

i-team. you'll find several stories as dan noyes takes a closer look at issues involving tesla's auto pilot feature. new developments tonight. a san jose father who's facing deportation has been granted a reprieve. we learned today for fernando carrillo will be released monday after months of detention. he won his freedom after an immigration judge ruled it would not be safe for him to return to mexico. immigrant rights activists will hold a rally on monday to celebrate. president trump criticized california's governor for pardoning five action-convicts who faced deportation. he referred to the governor as jerry "moonbeam" brown and said the charges included kidnapping, robbery, domestic violence and drug dealing. the president also called out oakland mayor libby schaaf again for warning residents of an impending i.c.e. raid last month. >> several of the criminal aliens who got away in oakland

after the mayor helped them evade capture have already committed new crimes. crimes that could have been easily prevented if not for oakland's dangerous sanctuary policies. >> in his weekly address, the president urged congress to cut off funding for sanctuary cities in a push to combat the deadly opioid epidemic. he says sanctuary cities releas% criminal aliens, including drug traffickers, dealers and gang members. the president announced steps that his administration is taking, including reducing drug demand and supply and increasing drug treatment programs. today was rex tillerson's last day as secretary of state. the president fired him earlier this month citing disagreements on north korea, the iran nuclear deal and ideas on trade. cia director mike pompeo has been nominated to replace tillerson who has said he'll make sure the transition is smooth and orderly. the senate foreign relations committee expects to start hearings for pompeo next month.

developing news here. arnold schwarzenegger is said to be doing well as he recovers from emergency open heart surgery. the unexpected operation game after schwarzenegger was due to have a less invasive procedure. marci gonzalez tells us more. >> reporter: after emergency open heart surgery, arnold schwarzenegger's spokesperson says the first words out of the former california governor and hollywood superstar's mouth -- >> i'm back. >> reporter: back on the mend after what was supposed to be a less invasive procedure to replace a valve put in back in 1997 because of a congenital heart defect. schwarzenegger opening up to barbara walters about complications that followed that surgery. >> it was a year unlike any other year i've ever had because there was great success with the movies and great success with the business but all of a sudden there was this time when i was lying in the hospital with a heart operation. >> you could have died. were you scared?

>> i was very scared. you're right, i could have died. >> reporter: more than two decades later, the now 70-year-old spokesperson said o schwarzenegger d its life chose to replace it, making a last-minute decision to cancel a trip to washington, d.c. >> i'm sorry i cannot be with you today. >> reporter: to undergo surgery. his spokesperson writing during that procedure, an open heart surgery team was prepared in case the catheter procedure was unable to be performed, which is what happened. the medical team calling the operation a success. marci gonzalez, abc news. more than 100 workers are suing two companies claiming they failed to pay them properly for cleanup work firing last fall's tubbs fire in sonoma county. attorneys for the workers claim they were cheated out of half their pay and not paid overtime. some of the workers say they were harassed and their bosses were racist. both of the companies are based outside california. they said they won't comment on the lawsuit until they reviewed

scientists say it's hard to know where a chinese space station will land when it falls back to earth but they have an estimate of when it will land. the european space agency believes the satellite will fall sometime tomorrow afternoon give or take a few hours. it will likely land in one of the earth's oceans, probably the pacific. >> parts of it will hit the earth. most of it will burn up in re-entry. some will make it through the atmosphere and strike the earth. the chance of anyone getting hit is really very, very remote. >> the chinese space station is not the only human-made object in space. you're looking at a map experts built showing the tens of thousands of pieces of space junk that surround the earth. we have an early easter bunny sighting to report today in the east bay. the bunny was busy making an appearance at the annual iron

making their presence known. our temperatures have just plummeted in several spots. look at san francisco and hayward, both 18 degrees cooler right now than we were this time yesterday. 13 degrees cooler in half moon bay, 15 degrees cooler in santa rosa and san jose 8 degrees cooler right now. so noticeably cooler, but location is key. our microclimates are in full effect right now. along the coast you need that jacket. we're holding in the 50s. 54 half moon bay, 56 in san francisco. to jump inland and we have a ton of sunshine and warmer air. 80 in concord, 80 in antioch. san jose checking in with a mild temperature, even though cooler than yesterday at 72 degrees. take a look, future tracker temperatures and fog, later on tonight we'll see the fog expanding. by 9:00 tonight we do expect fog over san francisco jumping into the east bay. so oakland, san leandro and hayward have patchy fog later on tonight. first thing tomorrow morning we have that patchy fog through the

delta. parts of the east bay as well. but it doesn't linger all that long. by 9:00, 10:00 in the morning the sun gets up, burns off the fog and we have a lot of sunshine to finish off on sunday afternoon. overnight tonight patchy fog, especially right along the coast, spilling into the bay through the delta and parts of the east bay as well. so temperatures tonight over the next 12 hours mainly dropping into the 40s from the coast to the bay and inland. so your easter planner tomorrow will have that early morning patchy fog in spots. temperatures starting out in the 40s. get that fog out of here. and a lot of sunshine. by 4:00 away from the coast, those temperatures once again will feel mild for this time of the year on april 1st, going into the 70s. so hi of 75 in san jose. 65 for redwood city, 68 for mountain view but breezy and cooler on the coast. half moon bay only 58 degrees. downtown san francisco morning fog, afternoon sunshine. it will be breezy, a cool 62. 57 for daly city. into the north bay away from the coast, you're into the 70s.
