to earth overnight. a camera is rolling as a protective goose is attacking soldiers. and see what "roseanne" will not be mentioning as her sitcom reboot enters week two. and we do say good morning, everybody. it may be april, for tens of millions of americans, it doesn't look or feel like it this morning. >> this is no day after april fool's joke. we're expecting snow for the morning commute in the big cities of the northeast. it comes after parts of the midwest had one of the coldest easter holidays in a decade. near st. louis, this car lost control in the icy conditions on interstate 70, this car slid and crashed into the barrier. >> abc's janai norman joins us now from washington where they should be talking about cherry blossoms. instead, they're talking about snow and sleet. she's smart. she's indoors. >> reporter: absolutely, guys. can you believe it? it's april 2nd. and here we are talking about snow. and lots of it. in places like nebraska and minnesota.

here on the east coast, as you both know, we're facing the fifth major storm in as many weeks. it's a double dose of winter weather. a spring storm packing bitter cold and heavy, wet snow. >> so it's mother nature's april fool's to us. >> reporter: on easter sunday, snow blowers and slick roads across the plains and great lakes. chicago had its coldest easter in easily a decade. that spring system dumping nearly a dozen inches of snow and causing more than 300 car accidents in minnesota. the storm brought black ice to parts of wisconsin and created whiteout conditions along i-80 in nebraska. >> this time of year, we're pretty much sick of it. >> reporter: the northeast bracing for another round of spring snow. this, following four nor'easters in the last month. >> i was excited for spring. i had hope. >> reporter: despite a few nice, spring-like days, it's not spring yet for much of the country. diane and kendis?

>> we have the big easter egg roll in d.c. where the temperatures will be in the 40s. thank you. >> chilly one out there. >> yep. and now to the other big headline in washington. president trump declared no deal for undocumented immigrants brought to the u.s. as children. that message came on twitter, where he slammed democrats and mexico for not doing enough to stop illegal immigration. and threatened to end the nafta trade deal. abc's richard cantu has more. >> reporter: a rare easter sunday appearance from president trump. and with it, a message slamming the door shut on dreamers. >> a lot of people are coming in because they want to take advantage of daca. and we're going to have to really see. they had a great chance. the democrats blew it. >> reporter: those comments hours after the president tweeted about security on the mexican border. tweeting, caravans coming. republicans must go to nuclear option to pass now. no more daca deal. roughly an hour before that tweet, a story appeared on fox

news about central americans marching through mexico to the u.s. border. to shed light on migrants and poverty. >> it's illegal to go from one country to another. which is a clear standoff with this president, who thinks otherwise. >> reporter: the president connecting that march to daca, the 2012 program created by president obama to protect some 700,000 immigrants. who came to the u.s. as kids. new arrivals can't apply for protection under daca. the president ended the program last year but gave congress six months to come up with a solution. the issue is now tied up in the courts. as a candidate, he was strongly against daca. >> we will immediately terminate president obama's two illegal executive amnesties. >> reporter: but as president. >> we're going to deal with daca with heart. truly, a bill of love. >> reporter: he wanted funding in exchange for a solution. he couldn't reach a deal with the democrats. >> build that wall. build that wall. who's going to pay for the wall? >> all: mexico! >> 100%. >> reporter: the president's

>> reporter: he's accused of lavish spending on travel and a secure phone booth for his office. more rallies expected in sacramento this week amid protests over the fatal police shooting of stephon clark. a 61-year-old grandmother was struck by a police vehicle during a vigil for clark. her family says she suffered a concussion and fractured ribs. the incident now under investigation. this was the second weekend of protests after clark's death. an autopsy requested by the family found the unarmed black man was shot eight times. mostly in his back. a tragic update about a family car crash. that left at least five people dead, including several children. their suv drove off a cliff on the pacific coast highway last week in california. authorities now say it appears the crash was indeed intentional. they say the electronic data from the vehicle shows it came to a stop and then accelerated off the cliff. jennifer and sara hart were a married couple living in oregon. three of their six adopted children remain unaccounted for

and may have been swept out to sea. the harts had faced a recent investigation into possible abuse and neglect. a chinese space station the size of a school bus has crashed back to earth. what was left of the nine-ton station crashed into the south pacific near tahiti today. china did not immediately give an exact location. most of the station is thought to have burned up in the atmosphere. hitting speeds of about 17,000 miles per hour before disintegrating. >> no falling debris. but lots of falling precipitation this morning, as we take a look at your monday forecast. ♪ good morning. as we take a look at a low pressure system that will continue to leave off the east coast, eerily similar placement of some nor'easters that we have dealt with. look for morning snow along the southern new england states. new york changing over to a mix in the morning time. but then, quick-hitting snow from kansas city through the ohio valley. cincinnati, through philadelphia. up towards boston. highest totals on grass.

hackers have stolen 5 million debit and credit card numbers used at saks fifth avenue and lord & taylor. the breach apparently started in may of last year, hitting more than 130 stores. experts say it likely started with a so-called phishing e-mail that targeted company employees. when they opened the e-mails, hackers secretly installed software at registers to steal the data. so far, 125,000 card numbers have reportedly been put up for sale on the black market. the stores say they'll notify affected customers. and offer free credit monitoring. shoppers are urged to check your statements for strange activity. the pastor of a houston megachurch who served as an adviser to former presidents bush and obama, expected to today to surrender to authorities this week over a bond scheme. pastor kirby john caldwell delivered an easter sermon and denied scamming investors out of $3.5 million. he insists the bonds from china are legitimate and calls the charges frivolous. jury selection begins today for bill cosby's sexual assault retrial. the first trial ended in a hung jury.

dozens of women have accused the comedian of sexual misconduct. unlike the first trial, some accusers will take the stand. new concerns about self-driving cars. after a crash with the tesla in autopilot mode. tesla says the car sent the driver several warnings to put his hands on the wheel before crashing into a highway barrier, in california, killing the driver. according to his brother, the driver complained several times that the car would turn toward that barrier. but the dealership could not replicate the issue. the ntsb is investigating. and says it's not happy that tesla has disclosed details of the case. and a close call near dallas. a motorcycle driver's helmet recorded this three-vehicle crash. he was thrown off his bike. he is okay. nobody else was seriously hurt. police say one of the vehicles ran a red light. okay, of course, you know, soldiers at u.s. army posts in oklahoma came face to face with an aggressive threat. but they could take it, right?

>> we heard a loud boom and sirens and it passes by a lot, we thought it was something normal. as soon as we heard the loud boom, our whole lights burned out at home. >> it appears two men are handcuffed, one on a gurney and one into the ambulance. firefighters and police were on the seen in san jose at about 1:15 this morning. it's near story road. that car suffered serious damage. p gchlg&e is hoping to have all lights on soon. a driver charged in a deadly hit-and-run accident in san francisco is set to be arraigned. 33-year-old mark dennis faces one count of murder, four counts of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. police say dennis got into a physical altercation with the five victims on wednesday. he drove on to the sidewalk and plowed into them at 24th and illinois streets. one of the men later died at the hospital. it's 4:29 now.
