i.c.e. agents aarrested carillo six months ago when he dropped his youngest daughter off at day care in san jose. his family and immigrant rights advocates have been working tirelessly trying to get him released. a judge ruled he should not be deported because it would not be safe for him to return to mexico. his family wants to thank all the community members and everyone else who helped get him home. >> i'm going to take a shower. a real shower. i'm going to put on my pjs. i'm going to have something to eat. and i'm just going to rest and be with my family. >> six months without our girls hold his hand, hug their dad. i mean, you know, it's funny, when you don't realize how

important holding someone's hand, your loved one's hands or giving someone a hug, important that can really be. >> reporter: carillo's wife lourdes told me the first thing they plan to do as a family is go to church. they say their work is not done. they also plan to be advocates for other families whose loved ones have been detained or deported. reporting live in san francisco, elissa harrington, abc7 news news. >> so many watching today. thank you. new this morning, the power is back on for more than 2,000 pg&e customers in east san jose after this police chase ended with a crash into a power pole around 1:15 this morning. police say they were trying to stop a stolen car near allenwood road and the driver crashed into a power pole about two miles away. >> we had just gone to bed. out of nowhere we heard a loud boom and sirens. since it's usual that is it passes by a lot, we thought it was something normal. as soon as we heard the loud

boom, our whole lights went out at home. >> two men were arrested. one taken away in a patrol car, the other in an ambulance. they were eventually both booked into santa clara county jail for stealing the car. new developments following that deadly tesla crash on highway 101. upcoming rain. matt keller live for us in saratoga. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. very peaceful here along saratoga creek but that will soon all change. today crews from the santa clara water district are setting up to take down 30 eucalyptus trees in the area. between cox avenue and prospect road, the problem is drought and insect has done damage to the eucalyptus trees. the big concern are homes that line this creek. some trees are more than 150 feet tall and if they fall they could do damage to people and property. pg&e lines could be knocked down by flooding and falling branches. >> if you have big trees falling down and blocking the creek, that's part of the district's mission, is falling trees and flooding. >> reporter: this comes after high profile incidents of trees falling on people. yesterday firefighters had to

new this morning, mandela has died. her family says her health began to deteriorate earlier this year and she died today in a johan s johannesburg hospital. she was an anti-apartheid activist in her own right. she kept her husband's memory alive while her husband was in prison. she was 81 years old.

this is ethan couch just released from jail. he gained he gained the nick anymore affluenza teen. his attorney said his upbringing made it impossible for him to understand the consequences of his actions. >> reporter: the infamously dubbed affluenza teen is now aid free man. >> glad to be out? >> reporter: ethan couch has been released from this texas jail after spending 720 days behind bars. >> if you do wrong, your punishment is fit for what you did wrong. and this is -- it's not even close. >> reporter: joseph's sister, breanna mitchell, was one of four people killed when couch got behind the wheel of his father's souped up pickup truck drunk. >> oh, lord, there's another child in the ditch. >> reporter: his defense claimed

the 16-year-old was too rich to know right from wrong, calling it affluenza. >> affluenza. >> too rich for jail. >> reporter: he was convicted but did not have to spend a single day in prison. instead, slapped with ten years probation. then in december 2015, couch and his mother disappeared after a video surfaced that allegedly showed couch violating his probation. they were found in mexico. he was extradited back to texas. >> you're not getting out of jail today. >> reporter: this time couch was sent to jail. now two years later a chaplain says couch has changed. >> i think he has made clear to me that he needed time behind bars. just to really if the get him to the place of ownership. >> reporter: couch is on probation until 2026. he's under mandatory curfew and cannot leave the house before 8:00 a.m. and must be home by 9:00 that night. he must consent to mandatory drug and alcohol testing and always wear a gps monitoring

bracelet on his ankle. happening now, thousands of teachers in kentucky and oklahoma are on strike. this is video from earlier this morning. oklahoma teachers protesting in front of the state capital. they are protesting cuts in pay, benefits. they were inspired by west virginia steechers who went on strike earlier this year and got a pay raise. a 13-year-old boy who had been stuck in a maze of drainage pipes for more than 13 hours was found alive this more than. jesse hernandez fell into the drainage easter sunday. that drainage flows into the l.a. miles per hour. dozens of firefighters joined in. they used floating cameras to find hernandez and he's now,ing checked out at a hospital. the war of words between apple ceo cook and facebook co-founder mark zuckerberg.

yankees won't have their home opener against the tampa bay rays. that is yankee stadium, snow covered. that's giancarlo stanton. he was taking it all in. he used to play for the marlins so he's not used to seeing this. the two teams plan to make up the game tomorrow. let's play, too. looks pretty cool. here's a look at the radar from earlier this morning. you can see all the gray and white sitting on top of this. and it did move out as the morning wore on. by then, too late. too much snow falling. it will be cold tomorrow but at least able to play. back at home, watching a dry cold front roll through. you can see the high clouds that are rolling through right now. behind it, just about total sunshine for the rest of the afternoon into the early evening hours. so, that's the biggest game in town for now. if you're heading out, temperatures see the upper 50s to mid-60s out there. very comfortable lunch unfolding under that increasing sunshine as you can see.

mild again today. breezy at the coast. could have gusts up to 30 miles an hour. atmospheric river arrives thursday. hopefully we can get sunday dry if you have plans to be outside this weekend. let's talk about microclimates. 68, milpitas, to 72 in san jose and gilroy. 63 in millbrae. because of the breezes we'll stay in mid to upper 50s at the coast. mid-50s north bay coast. in the valleys, how about low 70s, 70 to 72. east bay shore, hercules the cool spot at 74 keeping the winds off. oakland, 66. not much of an effect the farther south you go. temperatures in the low 70s towards fremont. gorgeous look this morning from emeryville back across alcatraz to the golden gate. that dry cold front comes through and temperatures still reach about 70 around the bay and inland at 4:00.

only 57 at the coast. grab a coat for the evening hours as we go from mid to upper 50s. on our way to mainly 40s. low to mid-40s east bay. here we are at 5:00 thursday evening. first sign of atmospheric river moving into the north bay. friday morning, everybody's dry. look how muc rain falls friday. this is moderate rain. we could have up to an inch in many areas. the heavy rain comes in friday night and saturday morning. the totalings hitting 1.5 inches to 3 inches and possibly 1.5 inches to 3.5 inches by sunday morning. that is an unusually crazy strong storm for april. right now it's a one thursday. only a two friday, which could change. right now the winds look like they'll be low enough and the flood potential looks like it's low enough it will stay a

moderate. saturday as the storm unwinds, it's a one. by sunday, we at least get dry weather. temperature still cooler than average, upper 50s to mid-60s. by the way, did i mention today, tomorrow, wednesday, it will be really nice. >> i know, at least really enjoy it because it's really about to change. i was surprised when you upgraded it to a two overnight. >> yeah, it's really looking impressive. especially friday night into saturday morning. >> we've been warned. maybe one dry weekend day. maybe. >> maybe. but this has got to be one of the last storms of the season. >> we need it. thank you, mike. >> you bet. turning to the economy. happening today, china will impose a tariff on more than 100 american made goods, many from california. the move is in direct retaliation for president donald trump's tariffs on steel and aluminum. it will include fruits, nuts, wine, pork and aluminum. it's expected to hit california companies especially hard since many of those products come from here. happening now, the government is accepting applications for those coveted

h1b visas. a lot in silicon valley use those visa says to atrack tech workers. 35,000 people will be chosen in a lottery style allowing them to live and work in the u.s. for three years. employers must sponsor the applicants. the trump administration says applications will be scrutinized and rejected for even minor prisoners. facebook co-founder mark zuckerberg is hitting back at apple ceo tim cook, responding to cook's criticism about facebook and its handling of cambridge analytica, calling it, quote, extremely glib. last week cook questioned facebook's practice of monetizing user data. during a podcast interview today, zuckerberg defended facebook's way of business saying an advertising supported model was the only way to continue building a service that's free of charge. it appears amazon and google want to listen to your every conversation and track your moods. according to "the new york times," both tech giants have filed patents in hopes of using

its devices including smart home products to pick uch everything you say. amazon and google say right now you have to push a button or say, hey, alexa. we have some new details on an ikea store coming to dublin, releasing new renderings of the shopping center planned for the site. you're looking at the glenn, a shopping center that has room for 92,000 retail in addition to the ikea itself. major design changes announced last year after community protest. it should be open some time in 2020. ikea plans to garner community reaction to the updated plan at a meeting on april 7th. easter may technically be over but the party continued this morning at the white house. the way hundreds of children helped the first family celebrate the holiday. he's feeding the pigeons.
