at a train crossing in georgia. a semi truck got stuck as a freight train was approaching. that is how that played out. the train plowing right into the truck ripping it apart. the driver wasn't in the cab at the time, so there were no injuries. there is a warning on the pavement that says trucks shouldn't cross at that location. police in southern california chased a guy driving a stolen box truck for 15 miles. the truck slowed down after the driver drove the truck over some spike strips. eventually he pulled over on the freeway and jumped out while the truck was still moving slowly. ran across several lanes of traffic, but finally taken into custody at gunpoint. the stolen truck was empty. >> don't really think of a box truck as a good getaway vehicle. >> yeah, you don't look at that and go yeah, want to get away. >> not very aerodynamic. >> at least he survived that part. that is scary. >> glad to see that one ended

first class flights. an epa ethics official insists pruitt did not violate ethics rules with the condo deal, but even some republicans are skeptical. >> this was a brutally unprofessional transition. this was a transition that didn't vet people for this type of judgment issues. listen, i don't know how you survive this one. if he has to go, it is because he never should have been there in the first place. >> congressional democrats have sent a letter to pruitt demanding more details about the terms of the rental agreement. they say it may constitute a conflict of interest. >> and pruitt is gearing up with a showdown with california as the epa prepares to roll back fuel efficiency rules set by the obama administration. pruitt says it is designed to cut back on greenhouse gas emissions are too high. california can set its own rules which 12 other states traditionally follow. and its officials plan to stick with the tougher regulations, but pruitt intends to make the state fall in line with the trump administration.

asian stock markets are losing ground overnight. >> big losses are being blamed on two factors, those are concerns about a possible trade war with china and the increased scrutiny that some big tech firms are struggling through right now. here is abc's rebecca jarvis. >> reporter: stocks slammed. since hitting a record high in january, the dow now down 11%, meaning in the last two months the typical $100,000 401(k) has wiped out approximately $10,000 in value. behind the drop, the tech tide turning. amazon down more than 5% on the heels of a new twitter attack. the president writing only fools are worse, are saying that our money losing post office makes money with amazon. they lose a fortune and this will be changed. on its own website, the u.s. postal service says that by law it cannot lose money on deliveries. including amazon packages.

facebook down again in the wake of the privacy scandal. adding to the selloff? fears of a trade war. china announcing new tariffs of $3 billion in u.s. goods hitting 128 products including pork, steel pipes and apples. retaliation for the trump administration's tariffs on steel and aluminum. >> the american steel and aluminum industry has been ravaged by aggressive foreign trade practices. it is really an assault on our country. >> reporter: the postal service could ultimately start charging amazon more to ship those packages, but keep in mind package delivery is one of the few growing businesses for the postal service and analysts believe that charging amazon more could lead the retail giant to pursue an alternative delivery service. >> thanks to rebecca jarvis. a new set of production quotas for immigration judges are being criticized. the justice department new standards say judges must complete 700 cases per year to

earn a satisfactory grade. those who decide fewer than 560 cases will be labeled unsatisfactory, the quotas were seen as the trump administration's attempt to speed up deportations and reduce court backlogs. the judges' union strongly opposes the measures and will explore legal options. so we've learned of a possible meeting between president trump and vladimir putin. that word came from the kremlin announcing that the president invited putin to the white house when they spoke last month. the administration would only say that the white house was among a number of potential venues being considered. many are concerned that a visit will take place without president trump confronting putin about election meddling or the recent poisoning of a former russian spy in the uk. and just as he did with president putin, trump also called the egyptian president to congratulate him on his heavily criticized re-election victory.

in fact he won with 97% of the vote. he faced no serious challengers after a string of candidates were either arrested or withdrew from the race. the state department offered no congratulations of their own. the statement also noted reports about constrained freedoms of expression. we're getting a new look at the moment that police vehicle hit a woman during a stephon clark protest. the sheriff's department has released dash cam video of the suv knocking over that grandmother saturday night. the vehicle then drove off. sacramento sheriff says he hasn't spoken with the driver, but he believes it is likely the driver did not see the woman. the sheriff blamed paid protesters for causing chaos before the woman was hit. >> there are professional protesters and professional instigators that infiltrate the protests for their own purposes as well as participants from out of the region that inflame and

antagonize the event. >> the woman was treated for head and arm injuries. her lawyer says she is considering her legal options. two new studies find a drop in opoid use may be connected to marijuana. researchers in two states found medical marijuana may reduce patients' needs for prescription opoids. it looked at senior citizens and found opoid use dropped in 14% with marijuana dispensaries. doctors caution that marijuana should not be the first line of treatment. another rising snowstorm is coming this way even though it is spring. the storm is coming out of the northern rockies, it will bring snow to minneapolis this morning. some areas could see as much as a foot of snow. it will then make its way to new england. it will also deliver storms from indianapolis to cincinnati and new orleans. tornadoes are possible from memphis to cincinnati. hail likely. anything else? the storm is bringing a little bit of everything to just about everybody. >> locusts?
