celebration. and should you work out now or later? the best time of day to hit the gym. and the new flavor of lipstick that really is an acquired taste. a good tuesday morning, everyone. we begin with the debate over legal immigration and more late night tweets from president trump. >> he says u.s. laws are weak and our country is being stolen. his claims are in response to a caravan of more than 1,000 migrants from central america heading who are now heading towards the united states boa border. overnight we learned that mexico has turned about 400 of those migrants around. but the president is demanding more action. >> he's also raising new questions about the future of undocumented immigrants that arrived in the u.s. as children. abc's janai norman has the latest. good morning, janai. >> reporter: diane and kendis, good morning. president trump is blaming democrats for letting down dreamers and at the same time he's looking to ramp up

efforts to stop illegal immigration. president trump on twitter took aim at democrats declaring daca is dead. >> i can tell you this, and i say this to daca recipients, that the republicans are with you. >> reporter: but it was the president who ended the protections for dreamers and then later rejected a deal from democrats in exchange for billions to build his border wall. >> we had this great opportunity. the democrats have really let them down. it's a shame and now people are taking advantage of daca and that's a shame. >> reporter: now the president is pushing for legislation to crack down on illegal immigration and wanting to make it more difficult to obtain refuge in the united states. the sharp shift in tone coming on the heels of this "fox & friends" segment about a caravan of migrants on their way to the u.s. through mexico planning to seek asylum. >> a lot of people are coming in because they want to take advantage of daca. >> reporter: but the only people eligible for protections under

daca are those who came to the u.s. as children before june 2007. the group organizing the caravan of migrants said in a press release it will continue to stand with displaced people despite the president's, quote, bullying. and overnight word the justice department is imposing new quotas on immigration judges. they'll be required to clear at least 700 cases each year if they want to receive a satisfactory performance rating. diane and kendis, that move is aimed at speeding up deportation decisions. >> janai norman, thank you. the white house meeting may be in the works for russian president vladimir putin. the kremlin announced president trump extended the invitation to putin when they spoke last month but the administration would only say that the white house is among several potential venues being considered. and the white house has launched an investigation into epa administrator scott pruitt's rental agreement for a condo owned by the wife of a lobbyist. pruitt was paying $50 a night to live in the town house near capitol hill.

democrats want to know if there was a conflict of interest. meanwhile "the washington post" reports the epa considered leasing a private jet for pruitt but didn't follow through because of the cost. pruitt has been under fire for lavish spending. we turn now to the volatile markets and this morning stocks in asia were down after big losses on wall street. investors are worried about a possible trade war with china and they're also reacting to president trump as he takes aim at amazon. trump versus the tech titan. according to "vanity fair," sources close to the president say he is discussing ways to escalate his attacks on amazon to further damage the company. he's off the hook one source told "vanity fair" calling it a war on amazon. the president has suggested rate hikes for shipping amazon packages tweeting only fools or worse are saying that our money losing post office makes money with amazon. they lose a fortune and this will be changed. but experts say a rate hike for amazon could do more harm than

good for the post office. abc's rebecca jarvis explains. >> the postal service could charge amazon more to deliver those packages, but keep in mind package delivery is one of the few growing businesses for the postal service and analysts have looked at this and believe that charging amazon more could ultimately lead this major retailer to pursue alternative methods for its delivery service. >> reporter: amazon's stock spiraling, down more than 5% monday which in part fueld losses on wall street and the dow falling nearly 500 points. >> jeff. >> i will be short. >> reporter: jeff bezos who was invited to a tech roundtable last year has lost 16 billion since the president started tweeting about it and he owns "the washington post" which the president often criticizes. but this morning, the newspaper insists bezos has no role in the paper's news coverage. adding to the jitters on wall street, fears of an increasing trade war. china has imposed new tariffs on

u.s. pork, steel pipes and apples which could impact states like iowa. "the des moines registerst newspaper says pork producers have already lost a quarter of a billion dollars since the tariffs. they are retaliation for president trump's own tariffs. more could be on the way as the president promises to crack down on copyright theft by chinese companies. teacher protests in oklahoma will keep many schools across that state closed for a second day today. thousands of educators gathered in oklahoma city demanding more than $6,000 raises they were just offered. teachers are angry about budget cuts that have forced many schools to scale back to four-day weeks. teacher protests are also growing in kentucky and arizona. many of them inspired by the recent strike in west virginia. more april snow is causing problems for the morning commute, this time for the upper midwest and great lakes. let's get a closer look at your forecast for this tuesday.

one part of the storm system that is delivering snow is over the dakotas and nebraska. another is moving across lake michigan right now. areas south of the great lakes will see rain, hail and possibly a few tornadoes and looking at today's temperatures, much of the south will see highs in the 70s and 80s. chicago and detroit will top out at 41, mid-50s for the northwest. still ahead, how a murder trial could be decided based on what's found on an apple watch. but first two planes collide on a runway killing two firefighters. investigators explain what went wrong. and we hear from the boy who was trapped in a los angeles sewer system for 12 hours.

we're back with video from an airport in marion, indiana after a deadly collision between a small plane and a private jet. the plane was taking off at the time when it clipped the tail of the jet which was coming in for a landing. that smaller plane then burst into flames killing two volunteer firefighters who were inside. the two were reportedly planning a leisurely evening flight. the airport does not have an air traffic control system. to georgia now and a truck stuck on the tracks as this freight train comes barreling through. you see the results there. the truck destroyed. the driver was safe. no one on the train was hurt. the crossing has a warning that trucks should not try to cross the tracks. at least 117 lawsuits have been filed against the ohio fertility clinic that lost nearly 4,000 eggs and embryos because of a mistake that left the freezer off. more than 900 patients were affect the. some of them losing their last chance to have a biological child. three cancer survivors said they

had delayed chemotherapy so they could store their eggs with that clinic. >> i'm a woman wounded, robbed of the health i once knew and robbed by university hospital of my future. >> that pittsburgh woman is undergoing chemo for her stage three breast cancer and may no longer be able to extract any viable eggs. her attorney, gloria allred says an apology from the clinic is not enough. if you order online from panera, your personal information may have been taken. a cybersecurity expert says the data was vulnerable for at least eight months until he told panera about it. the restaurant chain says it has fixed the problem and fewer than 10,000 customers are affected. plans to deliver mail via drone in a russian town didn't quite go as planned. >> why not? >> the aircraft's test voyage ended when it smashed into a wall shortly after takeoff. the russian postal officials are blaming the crash on the company that makes the drone.

device to try to track him down. darsha philips from our station in los angeles explains. >> reporter: this is a picture of 13-year-old jesse hernandez right after he was rescued. he will fell more than 25 feet into a toxic sewage pipe at a decommissioned l.a. sanitation facility near griffith park. >> i was thinking like i'm going to die and i would never see my friends again. >> reporter: the 13-year-old was found more than 12 hours later alive. his family relieved along with the many men and women who took part in his search and rescue. >> as every minute passed, as every hour passed, we remained hopeful but we were certainly aware of a narrowing window of survivability. >> reporter: several agencies came together to comb the maze of pipeline underneath the city. >> working diligently for over 12 hours exhaustively systemically mapping this out, putting resources throughout here. over 100 firefighters were on scene. >> reporter: but it was workers with l.a. sanitation that became the unassuming heroes. >> they never gave up hope.

they wanted to bring jesse back to his family. >> reporter: high-tech cameras were put into the sewage system to track jesse's movements within the pipeline. >> hand markings on the sewer itself inside where it appears that he was trying to get out. >> reporter: the team opened up a maintenance hatch near the 134 and 5 freeways and found the teenager and pulled him to safety. >> the tunnel started getting smaller so i stood up fast and i just went up. >> and the first thing they heard is help. they were thrilled. right away they saw jesse and a three-quarter of an inch hose was lowered down, and he caught on. it was reeled back up and he was sat down on the floor. the first thing he wanted was a cell phone to call his family. >> they quickly did give him that phone. he says it was dark in the pipes and the only sound was rushing water. he prayed the whole time he wouldn't die.

agenda saying, quote, it's ironic we would be attacked for messages promoting our journalistic initiative for fair and objective reporting. at least one station has refused to run the promo citing its commitment to local news. president trump has filed court papers seeking private arbitration for his legal battle with that porn star known as stormy daniels. the president and his attorney are hoping to avoid facing a jury in daniels' lawsuit and she wants a nondiclosure agreement to be declared invalid. daniels claims she had an affair with the president. he denies it. in the meantime, the publisher of "national enquirer" is asking a california court to dismiss a lawsuit by former "playboy" model who claimed she too had an extramarital affair with the president. karen mcdougal sold her rights to her story and now accuses the publisher of colluding with the trump campaign to silence her. college basketball has a new champion this morning. villanova won the men's title for the second time in three years beating michigan by 17 points. the hero of the game, donte divincenzo, whose nickname is
