at youtube who spoke with witnesses. >> reporter: larry, you'll have to forgive me, this is such a fluid situation, details are coming in minute by minute, still a very active scene, with law enforcement cordoning off the area right here before the youtube campus along bay hill drive in san bruno. details of what we know as a youtube employee tells me earlier this afternoon that they heard gunshots in the patio area. i even spoke to a software engineer's mother who said her son hid in the bush after he heard those gunshots but he is safe. more than 400 employees have been evacuated and the victims include two women and a man, and a female who was dead after a self-inflicted gunshot wound. let's take a look at what police said at their press conference

this afternoon. >> numerous employees fled from the building. we did encounter one victim with a pair of gunshot wounds at the front of the business. after conducting a search of the premises, our officers located a second individual with a gunshot wound that may have been self-inflicted. two additional victims were located, several minutes later, at an adjacent business. >> as you can imagine, with so many people at this youtube campus, we are just getting new information on the victims' injuries that range from serious to fair and critical. we are contacting other hospitals in the area to see if there are more victims. >> dion thank you so much, we'll take a live look right now at the scene at the youtube campus in san bruno and you can see the police presence still there,

those streets, those blocks are quiet, as the police continue to investigate what led to this shooting today. >> now many of the workers at youtube ran to a shopping center across the street, and some of those people were injured and they needed help. abc news reporter vic lee who spoke to people who helped the victims. >> reporter: this is the bay hills shopping center, and right across the street over here, is the youtube campus. as you said, many of the youtube employees rushed over here to escape from the shootings. let's go to the cell phone video that was provided to us by a viewer, steve hall, steve, thank you very much, the best interviews we had here were with customers and restaurant owners who helped the injured youtube workers. you' you'll hear from two of them, customers at a carls jr. who helped an injured youtube

worker. and the second is with an owner or one of the partners at denny's who did not want his last name used, he works at a restaurant here. >> the girl, we put her inside the carl's jr.s, we put her in there, we grabbed a bunch of napkins, we put the napkins on her leg. there was another woman, there was a courtyard and she was laying over here and she was dead. she got shot like a lot of times, nonstop. >> i saw one bleeding in the face, i told them to come inside the store for safety. >> reporter:s you can see behind me, there's still fire trucks

and police cars and police investigators are mopping up at youtube's campus, they're trying of course to put all the piecess of the puzzle together. that's the very latest from bay hills shopping center. the injured victims were taken to zuckerburg general hospital. >> wayne freedman is there. wayne? >> a full update at least as full as i can make it from one of the surgeons. let's go to video from earlier today, there are three victims, two women, one man, the man is the most critical. he's 36 years old, from what we can tell from the video, he was on oxygen. there's no way to tell the nature of his wounds. but the doctors told us he was conscious. the most seriously injured is 32

years old. the other woman is in fair condition is 27. the hospital says they must protect their information. we do know that none of the patients have gone into surgery yet. we heard from dr. andre campb l campbell, he is a trauma surgeon here, and here's what he told us. >> i can't tell you all the specific injuries, but i can tell you one thing, is that when people are shot in the extremities or in the chest, they have significant injuries from gunshots. we have seen injuries from handguns, we have seen injuries from ak-47s and but what happens when they get shot, it creates a major crisis. >> reporter: that was dr. andre campbell who works in traum pla at the zuckerberg hospital in san francisco. that is a live picture there. he cannot tell us specifics about the patients, again,

because there are privacy laws involved. but what is interesting is that the hospital said today there will be no more updates about these patients today. not until tomorrow morning, unless their conditions change. that would indicate that they are at this point stable. but as dr. campbell said, when you're a trauma patient and start bleeding, anything can happen. at this point they have not gone into surgery and he said as of now that is not necessary. when we have more information, we'll have more information from zuckerburg and from that news conference. >> police radio communications from the first officers who responded to the shooting, give us a first look at the timeline of how this shooting unfolded, within minutes of their arrival on the youtube campus, they encountered the suspect. >> we see one of the witnesses coming in, they identified a female in a white shirt, that's the one we have down in the center court area.

bruno, california, our thoughts and prayers are with those victims at the scene. >> you can see police activity still there to the left, you're just -- just saw that courtyard area where people were eating, that we had heard, where people started hearing shot s >> we're about 3 1/2 hours from the initial reports. this was just before 1:00, and police got reports of shot fires, and they rushed to the scene. you can see officers at the top of the screen there, this is a vast campus, app app app app app employees work there every day. you want to go from room to room and search methodically in all

areas, a person could still be hiding. they believe the one person who is deceased was the only person who was really firing shots at this point. there's been some reports that there may have been a domestic dispute involved, at least that's what a lot of people, the premise that many are going on. so it takes time to run down all of these leads, try to get the identities. it will be a while before police wrap that part of the investigation up and start to release detailed information. they'll go through social media accounts, facebook, twitter, try to find out what was going on with all of these people, and how they're all connected with this tragedy that took place. >> and of course we have our crews on the scene and they're continuing to gather information as authorities give us info on what they know, what they have learned and what they are willing to release to us, and we are also keeping an eye on all the victims at the hospitals. we know that one woman is dead from an apparent self-inflicted

>> it appeared as though there was mostly mopup activity going on, following the gunshots that took place just before 1:00 today, but these six law enforcement officers are not taking any chances, but we don't know, with these situations, you know, you get reports and people could spot something and they want to be sure that there's nobody hiding in this parking structure, this parking area that might be a threat. they are very heavily armed and going up and down that parking lot to make sure there's nobody

are looking for specifically. now they're going down the steps. >> we're trying to figure out how the shooter logistically came out of campus. there are a lot of questions at this point as they're still trying to figure out what led up to it. >> they're looking for somebody they must have gotten word of something from somebody, you've got all sorts of surveillance going on in the area right now above and at the ground level. they seem to be looking for something in particular, we don't know what. just to back up to 12:46 is when we got the initial call over the police radios that shots were fired at youtube in san bruno, at that point, you really don't know what to expect if you're a member of law enforcement, given the way things are going throughout the country, you don't know if it's a terror

attack, you don't know if it's a domestic dispute. you don't know what's going on. terror would seem to be ruled out at this point, se. it seems like it was a domestic-related situation. b but this activity from law enforcement suggests that there may be something else. you don't know what kind of a plot could be unfolding. >> if they left some sort of note. >> note of a potential device that they could be looking for. but these guys clearly are taking whatever threat that might be out there quite seriously. when you see the guns raised like that, and lined up. >> and advancing methodically. >> i don't know who they're looking for or what they're looking for, but they have serious intentions right now. we have to keep an eye on this for sure.

as the investigation continues in san bruno after the shooting today that left one victim dead and several others hospitalized at san francisco general. we'll keep it right here and we'll see where this ends up. >> at this point, we can't really see the wide screen. okay, they're pointing at something. they're walking toward the youtube campus. they were at the back end of the parking lot. the youtube campus is ahead of them, just so you kind of know where things are logistically. >> you wonder if they believe somebody may be hiding in one of these vehicles. you just don't know. >> there's just so many possibilities at this point. but that's kind of area where people were having lunch, where you see all those red umbrellas, we heard from one witness who heard the shots, somebody started running, somebody hid in a bush, one gentleman who we heard from who was taking off on a case board, he said he saw the shooter with one of the victims just about 20, 25 feet away, so

very intense situation there, one person dead, the shooter believed to be dead, but police are not taking any chances. >> we thought this had kind of calmed down from the standpoint of any real activity, it really transitioned into more of an investigation and just trying to backtrack and reverse engineer what happened with all of the employees and there's a lot of people that work there. the posture that we saw by those six, if they were all s.w.a.t. team members, i'm sure, if there's some kind of threat there. they're going to take every precaution, there may not be anybody there, but there may be investigation throughout the afternoon. we just got word, they're just trying to clear the parking lot. and their definition of clearing the parking lot is very serious, they're not just strolling around looking for shell casings or anything like that. >> we don't know if somebody got injured and tried to run to

their car, there's so much going on. >> when you see guns up like that, they're taking it very seriously. >> definitely. >> we're keeping a close eye on that, and we'll keep you posted on any developments. we' an officer was injured overnight when he tried to pull over a stolen car in huk hercules. >> i snapped this picture of a man and a woman hopping a fence in res ranch in police eventually subdued him by shocking him a taser. hercules police believe these are the two suspects that were involved in an early morning chase that injured an officer. the man and the woman were in a

stolen car and they intentionally rammed the police car. >> the officer was slightly injured, this time being called a whiplash type injury. >> reporter: a rancher says the car broke through his fence on sycamore avenue. >> they're loose in the hills here somewhere, or on the freeway, trying to get out of dodge, you know, get out of town. >> reporter: the suspects are facing multiple charges, including assault with a deadly weapon for ramming the police car. >> we really do like knowing that we probably do have the suspects in custody and i think the citizens of this city will also feel more comfortable knowing that somebody who would intentionally back into a police car with an officer in it, is in custody. >> i noticed the suspects when i saw a man and a woman emerge from somatie shrubbery. we noticed they were covered in

looking at the western sky, current temperature readings 71. napa 67, low to mid 70s in novato and fairfield. and the view that we have from our rooftop here at abc7 looking out over the embarcadero. sclouds will increase, the rain arrives in the north bay late thursday, it intensifies overnight, turns into a stronger storm with rainy and windy conditions likely on friday and saturday. now over at lowe's, with a little bit of fog approaching. it will be a seasonably cool overnight period, and tomorrow's highs on the mild side. mid to upper 60s near the bay. and low to mid 70s inland. but the stormy weather, the rainfall totals from the first

first -- then the storm intensifies to a level 2 on our storm impact scale on friday and saturday. wettest areas will be the north bay and the mountains. we'll feel wind gusts from 30 to 45 miles an hour. here's a little forecast animation, starting at 6:00 friday morning, at which point rain will already have spread to virtually all parts of the bay area. notice the darker greens indicating the heavier, steadier rainfall. overnight tonight into saturday morning, we'll see those areas of yellow developing indicating much heavier rain. so there will be periods of heavy rain overnight into saturday morning. by friday night at 10:00, at that point, rain will still be falling, but we'll see three-quarters of an inch to an inch and a half across most of the bay area. and it continues into saturday, as you see here on the accuweather 7-day forecast. rain will start to taper off

we have more developments about the shooting in san bruno at the youtube campus. we saw officers searching the parking lot. three victims are receiving care at the trauma ward at zuckerberg san francisco general hospital. another person was also hurt. the female suspect was found dead on the youtube campus. abc news tweets the suspect died from what appears to be a

self-inflicted gunshot wound. police radio traffic by abc7 news indicated the first officers on the scene found a handgun 20 feet away from her. president trump has been briefed on the shooting at youtube. he sent this tweet this afternoon, president trump said his thoughts and prayers are with those victims of the tragedy. let's go back to the live view from sky 7. this is the scene in san bruno, where the shootings took place. and four victims have been hospitalized, one person is dead and that person is a female, believed to be the active shooter that police were responding to. at 12:46 p.m., the buildings and numerous buildings on the camp in san bruno. as we orient the camera around here, you can see the

neighborhood of police searching each and every employee that came out of that building, and part of the reason for that is because it's a hectic situation police, you're not sure who the threat might be, so we want to make sure that in the case of the parkland shooting, where the shooter was able to walk out in the chaos of the moment, so police want to make sure they search everybody to make sure there is no active threat. this is a much more casual scene nearby than what we saw a few minutes ago, with the s.w.a.t. team clearing the parking lot. we thought that they had word of perhaps another threat or at least were on the lookout for somebody, something, perhaps an accomplice, what have you, we're told that they were merely clearing the parking lot, but that looked to be a very serious situation, and what appeared to be investigators going up the step to gather more evidence, we presume.

politicians for offering thoughts and prayers after a situation but little else, so you can see the politicians from the bay area are going a little farther in their statements today. a little background, youtube was founded in 2005 by chad hurley and steve chatten. >> it was located in san mateo above a pizza restaurant. google then bought the company in 2006 when it only had 65 employees. >> the current san bruno location has 1,100 staff members. before they were there were five deadly has shootings in the bay area in the last 30 years. in 1988, gunman richard wade farley farley killed 7 people and 4 were wounded. in 19 -- this shooting with us

the catalyst for the 1994 assault weapons ban that was offered by senator dianne feinstein. >> in october of 2011, three people were killed and six wounded. the shooter opened fire with a handgun during a meeting at the plant. a few months later, april 2, 2012, a gunman shot seven people at the oikos university in oakland, seven were killed and three others wounded. now president trump says he's considering sending the military to the border. today's comments follow an administration effort to craft a legislature package aimed at closing legislation loopholes. >> without his promised border wall, the president, frustrated. >> we don't have laws, we have catch and release. >> during the press conference with baltic leaders, he was

a vehicle slid off the road and slammed into the side of the road. >> here's the bizarre story from hadward. >> reporter: residents in this hay beyond a reasonable doubt neighborhood woke up to this, after slamming into a home after going airborne. >> didn't even know it happened. >> reporter: not only did the homeowners sleep through the crash, they left their home this morning not realizing a car wass in their family room. >> reporter: the c hrk p said the crash happened around 2:00 this morning but was not reported by neighbors until daybreak. investigators say the driver was going down fairview avenue when he lost control, hit this

guardrail and then flew 30 feet into the air, landing on to the roof. >> hit the guardrail, at high speed, caused the vehicle to kind of catapult going down the hill, and kind of landed right there. so must have been going pretty fast. >> the driver left the scene so investigators are treating the crash as a hit and run. the maurys are grateful nobody was injured. >> if it was easter sunday it would have been a problem, because we had kids out here playing ping-pong and watching tv, that sort of thing, but normally we don't have too many people out here. >> reporter: now the insurance will help cover the cost to rebuild their family game room. we're starting with live doppler 7, showing sunny skies all across the bay area, tonight it will be seasonably cool. overnight lows will be mainly in the mid to upper 40s.

tomorrow clouds will increase a bit. high also range from low 60s at the coast, to upper 60s right around the bay, and low to mid 70s inland once again. then on thursday, our next storm comes in, it comes in as a light storm but will intensify and on friday, a 2 on our storm impact scale, we'll see periods of heavy rainfall. the wettest areas will be the north bay and the bay area mountains. and it will be gusty, winds gusting 30 to 45 miles an hour at times, that's on friday, and early saturday. so as you can see here on the accuweather 7-day forecast, we're posting rankings of 2 on our storm impact scale friday and saturday. sunday we start to dry out the afternoon and on monday we expect dry conditions. what if there was a nuclear war? what would you do?

[ inaudible ] >> the coroner is still processing that, we have no idea what they have done with the suspect. >> was the suspect an employee? >> we don't know that. we have not confirmed that. >> three shooting victims and one was the person with the self-inflicted gunshot? >> there were three victims of the shooting, and that does not include the shooter that was the self-inflicted wound. >> it's been a very short time and we had to and we had to work with the

coroner to id this person, we know very, very little right now and we probably won't know more until tomorrow. [ inaudible ] >> i don't have any information. i don't know. [ inaudible ] >> there were people fleeing from outside the building, so my understanding is those doors were open because of people exiting the building, so i don't think that was an issue going in. [ inaudible ] >> i don't have any information regarding that at all. >> how long did it take to evacuate the people? >> we just finished the slow methodical search just about a half hour ago. our first priority is to address the threat. so the first officers on scene immediately entered the building to identify and stop the threat or address the threat. after we do that, we make a cursory search to make sure

there's no obvious threats there. what's taken so long is we developed search teams to search the building room by room in a slow, methodical manner to make sure that we have identified each of the threats and at this point we believe we have. [ inaudible ] >> i believe it was in a courtyard area of the building. as far as how she entered, i don't have that, or through which door, i don't have that specific information. >> do you know what time this happened and what your officers saw when they arrived? >> we got calls of shots being fired at 12:46 this afternoon. we had three officers arrive within two minutes, so i think we were on scene at 12:48. they entered the rebuildibuild obviously saw a large number of people fleeing the building. they identified one victim at the front door, main entrance to the building. they checked on that person and youtube employees to their

credit helped us by standing by with that person so the officers could immediately enter to go search for the threat, and then within minutes, because it's a very large building, we found what we found after that. [ inaudible ] >> i don't have any information -- i don't know that at all. we're not even close to that at all. >> do you know what kind of weapon was used and the name of the shooter? >> i don't know the name of the shooter, but it was a handgun, i don't know the specific make or model. >> the shooter, was she found outside or inside? >> it was inside the complex, there's an open area inside the complex where this took place and she was in that vicinity. >> so the courtyard? >> yes, she was in the courtyard area. [ inaudible ] >> i haven't been told that. [ inaudible ] >> we transported four people to the hospital, one of those that were transported had a nongunshot related injury.

so they were fleeing from the scene, and we believe they twisted or broke their ankle, i don't know that for a fact, but there were three gunshot injuries that were transported to the hospital in addition to the suspect that we believe hadh a self-inflicted gunshot. >> was she deceased before officers arrived? >> that's my understanding, but the coroner is working all that up. i don't have any of that information. [ inaudible ] >> there's a courtyard open area in the building. it's inside the complex. i'll take one more and then i'm going to sneak out if here. [ inaudible ] >> i'm sorry? [ inaudible ] >> it depends on where you're parked. youtube's been great with helping us, as far as providing services for the employees dollar kind of stranded. some of those cars are located within a crime scene, so we're working on transportation and how we can help them out.

we're hoping to scale earning down progressively through the night. so i can't give you specific information, because a lot of it will depend on where those cars are located because it's a specifically large complex. >> we're working with youtube to provide transportation and other services to those folks. [ inaudible ] >> the building is completely secure. there's no threat to any type of public safety. the onus now is on us as law enforcement, we have our crime lab folks out here and we have the coroner out here and it will be a long night for those folks. we'll be out here all night and it will be a long processing of the scene. i'm just going to issue a short statement and i'm not going to be taking any questions. but i will say this, we are an incredibly tight knit community, within youtube. a where it feels like a family. and today the entire community of youtube and all of the employees were victimed es in crime. our hearts go out to those who suffered in this particular attack and our prayers are with them and their families. i also wanted to acknowledge a debt of gratitude to the police chief and the rest of the san bruno police department, they were incredibly fast and their rapid response worked very well. and so we deeply appreciate them, along with the mayor's office and congresswoman jackie spears's office. and that's all i'm going to saying. >> what is your name again? >> chris dale.
