involved in the shooting. >> the uncertainty and chaos lasted lo eed until after the g ended. police officers with gun drawns were scouring youtube's parking lot. >> investigators say around 1 12:30 afternoon, a woman opened fire before turning the gun on herself. >> four people were injured. here's a live look from sky 7. the police say the motive appears to be a domestic-related situation. after the shooting you talked with evacuated youtube workers? >> reporter: i did. eric, talk about an horrific and chaotic scene today. i did speak to one mother whose son is a 30-year-old software engineer at google. he was texting her from the actual cafeteria where that shooting happened.

he said he heard pop, pop, pop and then decided to run and hide in the bushes. his last text to her was to say that he was safe and that he loved his family, including his wife. just a few moments ago, we had a press conference with san bruno's police chief, along with represe a representative from youtube. >> we searched the building four by four, room by room in a slow, methodical manner to make sure that we located each of the threats and at this point we believe we have. >> we are an incredibly tight knit community at youtube, it feels like a family. today it feels like the community of you tooub and all of the employees were victim it of this crime, our hearts go out to those who suffered in this particular attack and our prayers are with them and their families. >> now speaking of that youtube

community, law enforcement here tell me just about 200 employees or so were evacuated and about an hour ago, so i saw dozens upon dozens of them, just walking down the sidewalk with their heads down, with their computers clutched to their chests, going to various staging areas to be questioned by various law enforcement, including the fbi who are here in san bruno. that is the latest here from the youtube campus. >> and numerous 911 calls were made by youtube employees to report the shooting. >> this is what they told officers as they raced to the scene. >> we have a report of a suspect with a gun, they heard seven to eight shots being fired. this would be from the youtube building. >> many employees called 911 as they barricaded themselves into their offices. >> if you're not familiar with

this area, youtube headquarters is on cherry avenue in san bruno, just off 380 just a couple of miles from sfo. here in the area, many of the workers in the building ran to the shopping center across the street. some of those employees were injured and needed help. >> reporter: as you said, the bay hills shopping center where i am standing is across the street from youtube's campus. now this place, this shopping center, became a safe haven for many of youtube's employees, including some of those who were injured. as the shooter began firing, many of the employees of youtube rushed out of the building, some with their hands up as police instructed, making sure the shooter was not among them. some ran to the bay hills shopping center for cover. this man was at carl's jr. when he helped a woman who was suffered from a leg wound. >> we put her inside the carl's

jr.s, on the side door, we put her in there, grabbe a bunch of and a ha napkins and put them on her leg. there was another woman who was laying in the courtyard and she was dead. >> denny who does not want his last name used works at hashes and brews restaurant. he saw two shooting victims. >> one was bleeding from the face, i told her to come inside the store for safety. the woman who was with her was shot on her lower ankle. i put them in the restaurant and gave them towels, band-aids, tried to calm them down. >> reporter: denny says one of the victims told him that the shooting started in the courtyard area of youtube. >> and sky 7 was overhead as ambulances took the injured to zuckerburg general hospital in san francisco. >> wayne friedman is there with

more on that. wayne? >> reporter: it's been going on all afternoon. we have three victims here at the hospital. the first of them arrived by ambulance a little bit after 1:00 p.m. let's show you that video to begin with. there were two women, onem man, the first was a male victim 36 years old, he was in critical condition when he arrived. he was aware of the women, one aged 32 was in serious condition, another aged 27 was in fair condition. the hospital says each of these victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds and some of the wounds were to their chest or extremities. the doctor who's treating them has some strong opinions about it. >> the reality is to the past w we had a mass casualty situation, i didn't see all these cameras out there last week. so that's the problem, when

something like this happens, which is terribly unfortunate, then you guys come out. the reality is we have to deal with this all the time, we have to deal with the families, the injuries, we have to deal with this constantly. and it's quite unfortunate. everybody gets hurt, it's important that we make sure that we take care of them. we do the best we can for everyone every day. >> words of wisdom from a doctor who has seen far too much of this kind of incident in san francisco. this just happened, he said, he said he's surprised with the press being here, but it was a high profile situation. he said that the victims are in stable condition. and he has -- we're told that we're not getting any information about their names or any indication of what they might have said when they came in, not even any indication of whether family members are here visiting with them. that is the latest from san francisco general hospital to update what is three victims

here, two women and one man is fair, serious and critical condition. >> and as you can imagine, news of this got out pretty quickly on social media, before we knew what the outcome was, california senator dianne feinstein tweeted out, my stomach sinks with yet another active shooter alert. i'm praying for the safety of everyone at youtube headquarters. and at 2:39 this afternoon, president trump tweeted, was just briefed on the shooting at youtube's hq in san bruno, california. our thought and prayers are with everybody involved. thank you to our again nominal law enforcement who were quickly on scene. >> four people were hurt when a woman with a gun opened fire then turned the gun on herself. the shooting happened as many employees were eating lunch. especially many outside on such a lovely day. investigators say the shooting likely resulted from a domestic

situation. police will remain on the scene throughout the night. turning now to other news, a man hunt ended in the east bay with the police takedown. it happened after an officer was injured overnight when he tried to make a traffic stop on a stolen car in hercules. and it's all thanks to a tip from abc news reporter. >> i snapped this picture and moments later police showed up and took the man into custody. the man struggled with officers and yelled profanities. police eventually subdued him by shocking him with a taser. hu hercules police believe these are the two suspects that were responsible for injuring a police officer earlier. >> when the driver put the car in reverse and intentionally backed into the police car, the officer was slightly injured,

with this being called a whiplash type injury. >> reporter: a man says a car broke through his fence on sycamore avenue, the driver tied to make it to highway 4 but the car got stuck. >> they're loose somewhere around here or on the freeway, trying to get out of dodge, get out of town. >> reporter: police are looking for the suspects for ramming the police car. >> we do like knowing that we probably have the suspects in custody and i think the citizens of this city will also feel more comfortable knowing that somebody who would intentionally back into a police car with an officer in it is in custody. >> i notice the suspects when i saw a man and a woman emerge from some shrubbery, walk down a hill and hop a fence near the crash site. the photographer and i drove down there and tried to get a picture, and that's when we called police. >> the city is calling it a nightmare bacteria and they say

june, however one of her opponents and the retired judge who chair the county's blue ribbon commission on jail reform are calling for her to resign. reporter tracey kaplan detailed claims made two decades ago when smith was assistant sheriff, smith took a potentially damaging audio cassette during an internal affairs investigation of which she thought she was the focus. >> whether she thought she was the subject of that investigation or not, to take that tape, view it, listen to it and then intervene. that is totally unethical. >> reporter: the judge also wants sharon smith to resign over a report submitted to the board of supervisors today. a report detailing the progress that's been made. >> i believe this piece is a public piece, it's basically

some publicity for the sheriff's to promote her agenda. we taxpayers paid $75,000 for this report. and it's not worth the paper it's written on. >> reporter: we contacted the sheriff's office, but were told that smith's schedule was too busy to do an on camera interview, abc news asked for a written statement but it was not received. he said if she fails to win re-election, she would still hold the office until the start of nec year. in san jose, david louie, abc7 news. some california lawmakers want to change the way police officers use lethal force. in sacramento, a bill was introduced that drastically changed the guidelines that police officers must follow. it says that police officers can use reasonable force when they're facing a threat. >> the new law says only when necessary, so you have to be able to show that this was the only option you had. >> it's not just a recent thing,

the issue of african-americans being injured and killed by police officers is a long history in this country. and so it's not that the pendulum is just swinging, it's stuck in one spot. what we're trying to do is move it back to where it needs to be. >> law enforcement has often defended lethal force saying that officers' lives were in danger and they just have seconds to decide what to do. a proposed senate bill would make intentionally killing or injuring a police canine an automatic felony. at least 10 police dogs have been killed in the line of duty in california over the past five years. >> they act as a deter rent for a lot of crime, they're not just running around like people have a perception that they're doing. they're there on a daily basis to help protect the community and protect the officers they work for. >> it seems only right that a police dog that's out there saving lives should be given that sort of protection.
