this morning. only two cities in the 40s. woo we've got 49 in cloverdale. the rest of us in the low to mid-50s until antioch. temperatures are steady through 7:00. gray at noon. don't need to have an umbrella. sprinkles will break out at 4:00. temperatures in the mid-60s. upper 50s at the coast. light rain in the north bay. then at 7:00 it starts to spread towards the rest of our neighborhoods and gets heavy during the overnight hours. more on that next. let's see what else sue is watching. >> we'll head to the altamont pass. first, san rafael. the taillights are headed in the southbound direction. everybody is at the limit. about a 20-minute drive from san francisco from the novato side of things. let's check our traffic maps. we have an accident reported on the altamont. it's just been cleared to the right shoulder. that is the better news. but you are seeing slow traffic from tracy up and over the altamont pass 205 to the scene.

then things pick up through livermore. >> thank you, sue. governor brown has a choice to make this morning. should he give the okay for the national guard to be deployed at the mexico border. >> president trump says the guard is necessary because the situation at the border reached a quote, crisis point. we're joined live from washington with the details. good morning arlette. >> natasha and reggie, good morning. president trump signed that order authorizing the national guard to assist the border patrol last night. the trump administration is now working with border state governors on their deployment. >> president trump is making a surprise announcement official. >> we're going to be guarding our border with the military. >> signing a proclamation for the national guard to head to the border. >> we hope that the deployment begins immediately. >> the trump administration provided little detail, no word on the cost, how many troops they'll send or for how long. the national guard won't act as law enforcement. they can't attain illegal border

officer will sent several month behind bars for a hit-and-run crash. he was sentenced to nine months in the county jail yesterday. he's better -- he's known in better times as the hot cop of the castro left the scene after an accident. two men were seriously injured. one of them said it's altered his life. he'll likely serve half his sentence. crews in san francisco preparing for the big storm that's expected to start late tonight. this morning, public works crews putting out temporary barriers at 17th and folsom, a notoriously low-lying area. be had the interlocking plastic barriers will remain in place until the rains sub died owe subside. it's going to keep going through saturday morning. nowhere in the bay area is under a flood watch. that could change as we head towards tomorrow.

if you're traveling around the state today, watch out for rain up north of, say, ukiah through eureka, chico. sprinkles in tahoe. 79 in fresno. more sunshine there. mid to upper 60s in san diego and los angeles. let's look at what's going to happen up in tahoe where the snow level is going to be around 10,000 feet. that's why it's mainly falling as rain. light. but then heavy rain and flooding possible tomorrow. saturday, the snow level drops down to about 5500 feet. maybe a couple of inches of wet snow. then the sunshine returns for sunday. natasha? >> mike, thank you. san francisco's municipal transportation agency is ignoring a call by the mayor's office and will add 227

positions in the coming years. the $1.2 billion budget passed earlier in the week. last year the mayor called for no new positions. muni officials say the subway requires staffing. the board of supervisors must give final approval to the muni budget. san francisco businesses wiped out by a fire in north beach will get a helping hand from neighbors. abc 7 news was at powell and union streets where a pop-up restaurant to raise money for the fire victims is set to open in two weeks. this is what it looked like on st. patrick's day when the block went up in flames. it started in a ground floor restaurant. firefighters say one of the businesses that burned had a sprinkler system. student took this photo after others used desk chairs to barricade doors after a lockdown.

atherton called the school around noon saying it faced a possible unspecified threat. officers searched the school, found no threat and lifted the lockdown before 2:00 p.m. federal agents seized 100 homes in sacramento county to crackdown on marijuana growing -- they descended on the properties and seized more than 61,000 marijuana plants worth up to $100 million in pot on the street. thousands of google employees signed a letter protesting the company's participation in a pentagon artificial intelligence project. "the new york times" says it was sent to ceo sundar pichai. the letter says google should not be in the business of war and should pull out of the program. the project is using a.i. to improve visual recognition as part of a drone program. google says its involvement is limited and the software is available to anyone. sue was talking about this

linger through next week. let's jump into our temperatures. 70 in san jose and morgan hill. those will be the warm spots. most of us in the mid to upper 60s. along the coast into san francisco, 61 at half moon bay. 62 at san francisco. lakeport and ukiah in the low 60s. here's a look at that atmospheric river. look it stretches across the entire map. north of hawaii all the way to just a couple of hundred miles off the coast. let's see what it's going to do. at 5:00, you can see we start the evening commute. nobody is wet. but as we head towards 4:00, friday morning, getting out for that commute, everybody is wet. but notice, the rainfall amounts. couple of hundredths in the south bay. quarter of an inch around the bay. almost a half nfrp in the north bay. look how heavy from 4:00 to 9:00. we jump to a third in the south bay. an inch in the bay and more than an inch in the north bay. it's going to be coming down really hard during the morning commute. it will continue. by 7:00 in the evening, we're
