i've seen a couple glows with people checking a text message or e-mail. officers will be cracking down and you will get a ticket. california office of traffic safety launched a new campaign this month. it's called just drive. the goal is to educate drivers about the dangers of distracted driving. people can expect to incase in enforcement. the police is one of the agencies cracking down. officers will be looking for people talking, texting or using apps while driving. the penalty for a first-ti $16m. the hands-free law has been in effect in california for ten years. since then, the ots has done several studies and did find a decrease in people talking and texting on phones. there are still tens of thousands of distracted driving collisions every year. police say if you really need to use your phone, pull over. this is just one of two designated days this month for this crackdown. the next one will be next

friday. april 13th. reporting live at the bay bridge toll plaza, alyssa harrington, abc 7 news. alyssa, thank you. now to the latest on the shooting at the youtube campus in san bruno. the. >> the employees are recovering. two women, a 32-year-old and 27-year-old were released and sent home. a 36-year-old man has been upgraded from critical to serious condition. it is still unclear what the extent of his injuries are from the gunshot wounds. >> youtube is encouraging employees to take time off and work from phone. they want to make sure wellness services are available. >> it will tighten security as a result of the shooting at the offices worldwide. >> silicon valley are looking at whether the buildings are vulnerable. many tech companies are known for having sprawling campuses. they're wide open. outdoor areas. meant to be relaxing for employees. security experts say tech companies need to rethink this approach to security. the santa clara county sheriff's

uc berkeley employee with ammonia is on the loose. it happened at wheeler hall at 1:35 in the morning. the woman entered a restroom and found the man inside. she told him to leave because the building was closed. that's when he followed her as she left. >> she had entered a restroom and asked the individual to leave. he didn't. so he assaulted her with a caustic chemical. >> the victim suffered burns from the ammonia and was taken to a local emergency room. cal police sent out a campuswide alert to warn students and staff about the attack. police aren't saying how he got in or why he attacked. happening today, cal train officials will hold a meeting to discuss a budget shortfall. forecasting a $25.4 million budget gap. be here's the proposal they're considering. san francisco bo need to pay an additional $7 million. san mateo, $7.6 million and vta

$10.7 million. happening today, a rally against a proposed ban on tobacco products in san francisco. people representing dozens of community groups and businesses will be picketing outside of city hall at 11:00 a.m. they want voters to say no to proposition e, banning the sale of cigarettes, tobacco and baking products. it would force many small businesses to close and create an underground market for tobacco. voters will decide on prop e in june. cloud cover, kept temperatures about 1 to 2 degrees, maybe even 3 milder than what we felt yesterday at this time. that means mid-40s around rohnert park. 44. you're kind of the exception. everybody else upper 40s low 50s. we've got low to mid-50s pretty much everywhere else. daly city at 49. kuhner continue owe at 48. -- cupertino at 48. let's look at the embarcadero,

richmond-san rafael bridge towards the toll plaza and towards san rafael. about an 8-minute drive. not bad at all. no delays. the cash-paying lanes are looking good as well with the fastrakers. this is 280 by the 880 over crossing. the headlights are headed in the northbound direction towards cupertino. it's a good drive from the san jose valley to the northbound direction. some slowing through tracy and getting over the altamont pass. it's fairly typical. we had an earlier accident that slowed things up a bit. that's been cleared. very slow through oakland due to late roadwork being picked up and so give yourself plenty of time southbound on 880. now a live desk update. new at this year, it looks like u.s. diplomats are leaving russia. look at this. russia state news agency says that these buses you see here were carrying the expelled diplomats and that it left the u.s. embassy in moscow early

this morning. the russian news agency citing eyewitnesses. we have this video. you can see the convoy there leaving the embassy. although it's unclear from the video if diplomats were on board those. regardless, we know that russia has asked diplomats to leave and it's also closing the st. petersburg consulate. it appears it's happening this morning. all of this is after the u.s. announced last week it was expelling 60 russian staffers and their families in response to that recent poisoning of a former russian spy and his daughter in britain. >> yes, sir k-- jessica, thank . there's no timetable as to when the troops will come home. >> sarah sanders said the trump administration is consulting with allies about future plans. they discussed syria in a meeting with his team this week. he said he wants to bring the troops home to rebuild the u.s. a potentially dangerous

minutes away from your accuweather forecast. you are going to have to get ready for rain over the next few days. >> the key is get ready for it. when it comes in, it's going to be too late to try to stop it ordeal with it. let's talk about what's going on as far as the wet weather. it's all to our north right now from about, say, medford to vancouver. we're looking at walnut creek. south on 680 this morning. gray, yeah it's going to be a cloudy day. pretty mild. evening rain develops. tonight the rain spreads and becomes moderate to heavy. i have a couple of dry days in my extended sunday and monday. that means there's five days of wet weather in april? pretty impressive. let's take a look at what's going on. we've got mid to upper 60s in the north bay and east bay valleys. mid to upper 60s in the bay itself and low to mid-60s along the coast and into san francisco. let's jump into what's going to happen tomorrow through saturday morning.

drenching rain. highest totals. up to 6 inches possible in the north bay hills and the santa cruz mountains. winds will gust to about 30 to 45 miles per hour. there is that potential for some wind damage and some power outages. we start the evening commute. everything is find except for north of cloverdale. notice by 4:00 in the morning, everything is wet. you need to maybe get up earlier tomorrow. you know the commute will be slower. there will be solo spinouts. that's going to gum up traffic. this is just in the five hours from 4:00 to 9:00. we go from barely a tenth to a quarter of an coming in. already up to an inch and a half to 2 inches in most areas by 7:00 friday evening. notice the rain shadow around mountain view, san jose and livermore. you'll eventually start to catch up. everybody else is going to out-pace you. when you get to that nearly inch of totals, everybody else around 2 to 3 inches of rain. here's a look at my accuweather

concord to walnut creek. thank you, sue. the iteam has identified a tesla crash from september that experts say shows similarities to the fatal crash in mountain view. a driver who does not want to be identified told dan noyes he was using autopilot in his tesla near the 880 merge when the sun got in his eyes and the car slammed into the safety barrier. one of the pioneers of self-driving technology says drivers have to pay close attention to the road even when using driver assist. >> we have to recognize, we've got to crawl before we walk, we got to walk before we run. we're still at the crawling stage with this technology. >> the driver in the september crash walked away uninjured. his safety barrier was in working order. that wasn't the case for apple engineer walter wong's tesla. it hit a barrier that had been collapsed by an earlier crash. that killed him. a tesla spokesperson tells us that autopilot is intended for a fully attentive driver and
