it's tough going in the north bay tonight. roads are flooded in west marin and sonoma, motorists are doing the best they can to get where they need to go. >> even the chp needed a helping hand. this patrol car landed in a ditch. the driver is okay. and this tree came down on the front of a courtesy van, there are no injuries reported. a look now at the golden gate bridge, drivers heading north need to be careful. as you go north, that's where some of the heaviest rainfall is expected. and in san jose, wet weather is slowing down drivers, roadways are slick and dangerous. >> this atmospheric river is soaking the bay area and it's not finished with us yet. >> let's get right to weather. >> it was a strong storm, the first half of it has come

through, the second half is coming late tonight through tomorrow morning. take a look at live doppler 7, the atmospheric river is late in the season but it has soaked the bay area, north bay, 2 to almost 5 inches of rain. right now it is light around mill valley. oakland it's light, macarthur boulevard, heading eastward, around concord, antioch, livermore, 580, san francisco it's been steady a heading into the peninsula, we are concerned about flooding potential, especially in the north bay where we have already seen it. now the flood advisory has been extended to 10:00 p.m. for sonoma county. this is a strong level 3 storm through tomorrow morning, downpours, flooding, wind gusts 30 to 40 miles an hour and there is a chance of thunder. your weekend is not a washout,

i'll be back with the timeline coming right now. here's a live look at sfo, it's been a rough day with more than 100 flights cancelled due to the weather. for some it's getting worse. alaska airlines is now rerouting some sfo arrivals across oakland. more cancellations are expected tomorrow. eric thomas is live at sfo with reaction. >> reporter: the most affected flights are those short haul flights up and down the west coast. and alaska has had some flights diverted to oakland and ferrying those passengers by bus to sfo. we're still working on confirming that. we don't have 100% confirmation on that. but the bottom line is if you're flying out of sfo or waiting for a flight here, the most you can hope for is it's only been delayed. >> i'm like on the verge of tears. >> reporter: if you were having

lydia smith's day you might be on the verge of tears too, her flight to her friend's baby shower was cancelled. and to top it all off. >> the best they could do was to get me a flight with virgin from san jose tonight at 7:00. >> reporter: >> we have seen 147 flight cancellations today, that's about 10% of our flight schedule. >> reporter: this family is in a quandary, they're from bolivia, they're trying to catch flight to hawaii. today in addition to the typical rains, there's another weather problem. >> the system is coming out of the south so the winds are opposite of how we operate. >> reporter: so instead of making a landing approach from north to south over the san mateo bridge, they're landing north to south. that's the most efficient

pattern for landings and takeoffs. >> and delays are running about 50 to 60 minutes longer than average. >> reporter: we did run into one traveler who was taking it all in stride. around miller was in town for a conference, now that it's over, her husband is flying in from colorado for a get away weekend. his flight was delayed more than an hour. >> i planned to be here and just wait for him. so what's another hour? it doesn't bother me. >> reporter: if the rain continues into tomorrow morning, sfo will start the day with delays, but should improve as the day wears on. >> not just in the air, there have been a lot of problems on the roads today, several drivers lost control on rain slickened highway 17 in the santa cruz mountains. >> david louie is live at lexington where there's been a tough afternoon there. >> reporter: you won't believe it, the highway patrol and fire crews responded not once but

four times to separate accidents on both sides of this divided highway. fortunately no one was seriously injured but the accidents do underscore how really slippery road conditions can get in this rain. this pupick-up truck was headin southbound on highway 17 when the passengers say they encountered slippery pavement. they began to fish tail and the car flipped on its side. the driver told abc7 news that they were okay, however the i e single injury accident caused traffic to get backed up. this shows how the flatbed tow truck had to maneuver through the traffic to get to the wreckage. near summit road, a vehicle lost control and went down on embankment. the driver suffered no significant injuries. bill murphy said that rain made the highway slippery. a total of four accidents

happened within a three-hour span. >> right here at the highest flood point last year. >> reporter: meira is now worried about potential flooding or slides based on the level of the san lorenzo river. so this to you looks very tame? >> very tame right now. >> reporter: so you cross your fingers and hope for the best? >> it takes a lot to worry me. >> we have trees that come down and stuff like that, those are our real hazards in this type of weather, when that happens you start the chain saws and tractor and go to work. new at 5:00, mill valley police just issued a flood warning. they're telling people who live in the sycamore park area to move your vehicles tonight to the mill valley community center. that's right off miller avenue. as you can see on the map. police warn that vehicles in that area could be flooded.

the arroyo presidio stream runs through that area. the game for tonight has been rained out. the team has also pushed back the start of saturday's game by two hours to 3:05 p.m. that's tomorrow. this is only the sixth rainout in the 18-year history of at&t park. the yosemite valley is closed tonight due to the storm. all reservations for today and tomorrow have been cancelled. and you can track the incoming rain where you live with the abc7 news app. it has live doppler 7, so you can get hour by hour conditions in your neighborhood. an unsolved mystery off grizzly peak road in the oakland hills, that's where the car of a missing person was recovered today and a body was found nearby.

leslie brinkley is live with more. >> reporter: i can tell you that police are not yet ready to confirm that the car is that of the missing person and they are not confirming that the body they just recovered is that of the missing person. that is still in the hands of the coroner's office. >> you know that grizzly peak, she may have gone off a cliff. >> reporter: this woman says her son's girlfriend was reported missing this week and she drove a white prius, the same kind that went off grizzly peak and down 100 feet into the ravine. >> he saw her on sunday night, and i don't know when he called me, but maybe it was tuesday or wednesday and said would you go on over there and see if she's been there. it because he lives right up the road here. >> reporter: her son was gone in hawaii this week and is cutting his vacation short to return to the bay area.

the police were investigating her disappearance. >> today our officers are out in the area checking for a missing person and they located a vehicle down the embankment here. >> reporter: fog, rain and wind hampered the rescue efforts but they eventually confirmed there was no one inside the vehicle. this afternoon as the vehicle was towed up the muddy hillside, cadaver dogs located a body near the prius. that body was taken off this hillside just about an hour ago. grizzly peak was closed for most of the day, and police say an investigation into what happened here is still under way. a big bang on gang busts today announced by san francisco police and homeland security. officials claim they took some extremely violate people off the street and solved several cold

cases dating all the way back to 2006. >> reporter: the ten people indicted are alleged members of the 19th street 16th street gangs accused of committing several murders along with roches roche robberies to protect their turf. one of the homicides occurred 12 years ago. >> the people in this room that investigated these cases never gave up. >> reporter: homeland security investigations is an arm of immigration and customs enforcement zplc enforcement. >> we do not initiate because of someone's immigration status. it's because of their criminal activities. >> these individuals that were arrested are very violent individuals. >> reporter: a seventh defendant was taken into custody from

now to an abc news exclusive. inside the home of the woman police say opened fire at the youtube headquarters in san bruno shooting three people before turning the gun ultimately on herself. the family of that seem aghdam says she became something of a youtube sensation in the market. would you say she was obsessed with youtube? >> that's all she was doing, making the videos. she never would hurt an aunt, how could she shoot people? >> aghdam's parents said they had no idea their daughter was capable of such a shooting.

in wake of what's been happening, school employees and administrators across the bay area got some intense training today, training they hope they'll never have to use. >> my daughter just texted me from school, she's at stoneman douglas, she says there's an active shooter. >> reporter: stunning 911 calls from a florida high school with an active shooter ill canning 17 people, and a shooter at youtube with a gun shoots three employees before taking her own life. the four our seminar was for bay area school administrators hoping to arm themselves with information. >> knowledge is power. >> reporter: anna coval just learned a disturbing statistic. >> there's no trend except that the trend is upticking. this is the reality and we have to be prepared for it.

to a break in call are on the loose. >> the suspects took off from the silver terrace neighborhood in a car that later crashed at the intersection of topeka and bridge view drive. one suspect was caught and an undetermined number of others are still being sought. university police hope people recognize this suv spinning doughnuts. it lasted a few seconds over by regents boulevard. police pointed out this is not a side show, it is illegal and considered reckless driving. oakland police are looking for up to eight suspects who they say robbed a majung restaurant. they took money and other items from the victims. no one was hurt. a man jumped out of a second-story window to escape this fire in east san jose overnight. it was intense as you can see. he did so after going back into his house to rescue his parents. a working smoke detector alerted

the family to the fire. the house was severely damaged, six people and three pets escaped. the man who jumped out of the window hurt his ankle, but otherwise he's okay. a new proposal would take us one step closer to having people riding in self-driven vehicles. the plan would allow transportation companies to provide free autonomous rides to the public as part of a testing program. a first program would require drivers to be in vehicles. the puc will vote on the proposal next week. plans to revitalize the old candlestick park. the developer of a planned shopping mall has put the project on hold. the ceo of five point holdings tells abc7 news, they're still discussing the plan, because of the instability of retail it

wants to ensure the project will work for the future. hi there, everyone. it is a soggy friday, take a look at live doppler 7, i want to show you where it's raining and it's pretty much raining across most of the bay area, moderate pockets right around mill beach, larks spur. san francisco pretty light to steady rain from dalai city to san francisco. from the peninsula, half moon bay heading into san mateo, you will notice around east palo alto, go into mountain view it is wet. moderate rainfall in freed mont. all the way to 680. the evening rush is not going to be exactly an easy one for obvious reasons. the santa cruz mountains, they are picking up the rain, you will notice it's pretty widespread. here's the rainfall totals.

the wettest spots on the north bay that are not on this map, anywhere from 2 to now over 5 inches of rain. .75 inch in san jose. over an inch in san francisco, oakland out towards concord, .75 inch rain and we're still counting. here's a look at the everyone theeveryone -- temperatures, really mild, we are watching the storm reports. we have had over 30 storm reports, a flood warning is up for navarro river mendocino county. listen to the officials if you're in the area and stay alert. for the russian river at hopland, with ee do have a floo warning. and speaking of rain, the rain is falling on top of the snow in tahoe which is going to lead to

some major issues, it has been raining all day long, snow levels up above 10,000 feet. rock and mudslides a big issue as well. i would not advise traveling up there. from our kgo roof camera, soggy, gusty tonight, storm winds down by tomorrow afternoon and it's going to be drying out sunday and monday. current storm is a strong level 3 storm, through tomorrow morning. flood watch covering all areas that are in green until 11:00 a.m. tomorrow. flooding risk continues, mud and rockslides are possible in the burn scar areas. hour by hour, by 7:00 tonight, some rain in the north bay. by 9:00 p.m., downpours across the north bay, big concern here that flooding will get exacerbat exacerbated. 10:00 p.m., pretty widespread.

and then the storm starts to move out of the picture early tomorrow morning. but as we head into the early afternoon, still an isolated shower or two can't be ruled out. a little bit of green showing up around noontime. the worst of it will be over by late tomorrow morning. in terms of our rainfall totals. these are additional totals. aywhere from about a half an inch of rain in some of the south bay locations, up to two inches of rain. temperatures in the 50s, pretty mild, tomorrow afternoon you're looking at breezy conditions, temperatures in the 60s with that storm winding down. here's the 7-day forecast, it's a level 3, wet and windy, sunday, breezy, dry and much warmer. as we head into monday, level 1, a much lighter system. tuesday going into wednesday, we'll be seeing some potential for some showers, but this storm, you can download the accuweather app and track with live doppler 7. it's been a strong one for this
