well, mild. 9:00, a clear night ahead. we have cooler temperatures in store for us tomorrow morning. but then a big warm up. i'll tell you more about that coming up, carolyn. >> thank you, frances. developing news out of contra costa county. police are investigating a shooting that's left a man dead in pleasant hill. it happened at 11:15 last night inside a home at norse drive near viking drive. police say a man was shot multiple times in connection with a marijuana robbery. officers have released no details about a suspect. developing news out of the south bay. police are investigating an early morning shooting that has left a man injured in san jose around 1:00 this morning on claudia drive. police say witnesses reported the shots were fired from a car, a car that left the area after the shooting. the victim has been taken to the hospital. he is expected to survive his injuries. investigators are piecing together what went wrong when a

small plane crashed near the petaluma airport friday night. the pilot, a retired marine, was killed. now colleagues are saying goodbye to the respected member of california's civil air patrol. abc 7 news reporter katie utehs has the story. >> reporter: the first sonoma county deputy to search for the distressed plane describes drenching rain and thick fog as the conditions friday night. >> it's likely he prior to 86 >> reporter: the in the transportation safety board is expected to arrive sunday. deputies started looking about a half mile north of this location. that's why it took them a while to find the wreckage. >> took us about 3 1/2 hours. as you can see, the plane is down in a mustard field. deputies spotted a small fire. >> reporter: deputies say the pilot likely died on impact. family identify him as

75-year-old carl morrison, a san diego resident whose legacy spans the state. >> he's an outstanding airman and we'll all miss him. >> reporter: region vice commander morrison was influential. >> he'll be remembered for passing legislation in california that gets our members recognized by their employers for their time off. >> reporter: civil air members do search and rescue, mentor young pilots, and aerospace education. >> if there was a free saturday and the cadet needed a ride, he was always out at the airport flying with them. >> reporter: the vietnam veteran retired from the united states marine corps after 20 years of service. he ran a private legal firm and was in petaluma consulting for the sonoma county water agency. >> he was instrumented rated, which meant he could fly when you can't see the ground. >> reporter: the ntsb will investigate the cause of the crash. katie utehs, abc 7 news.

alton smith, the former 49er, is back in jail. according to tmz, he violated a condition of his bail. he was booked into san francisco county jail. he appeared in court just one day earlier for allegedly violating a restraining order in a domestic violence case. he was ordered to wear an ankle bracelet. his bail is set at half a million dollars . smith is due back in court wednesday afternoon. a man is under arrest and three people are hurt following a stabbing at the coliseum b.a.r.t. station in oakland. >> 245, a knife, it looks like it's a four to five inch knife, male stabbing another male. >> adam 10, i've got a stab victim. a lot of blood. >> police say it happened around 3:00 yesterday afternoon right near the fare gates. two of the victims were taken to the hospital. their conditions are not known at this time. the third person's injuries were minor.

the suspect's name has not been released. it's not clear exactly what led up to that stabbing. b.a.r.t. closed the station as well as the connector to oakland international airport for two hours. it reopened at 5:00 p.m., just 30 minutes before the warriors game tipped off at oracle arena. both stinson and mirror beach are closed to cars because of damage from the storm. that deluge of rain friday night into yesterday morning really wreaked half on on stinson beach. we look at a parking lot that now looks more like a river. >> reporter: the heavy rain friday night caused a small creek that normally runs through and underneath a parking lot to flood. it washed away the structures around it that normally contain it. >> we just got so much rain. you know, within a short period of time. we got about eight inches of rain. >> reporter: and then this. a water fall left behind from where the parking lot collapsed,

close to where it meets stinson beach. 40 parking spaces were washed out to sea. >> this is crazy. i'm always going boogie boarding down here, down at the beach. i've never seen anything like it, never seen this much water. it's all washed out. unbelievable. >> oh, it's a huge amount of water. i've any seen it like this. we didn't think we could get to the beach. but we did, we found a way. >> reporter: official word from golden gate national park service is that both stinson and mural woods are closed to the public because of the storm damage. people here at stinson beach are definitely not steering clear of this place. >> we're going to have an adventure. we decided to have it no matter what. so we had to cross the river into the beach. >> reporter: at nearby parkside, the damage is adding up. the market and snack bar are closed because of it, but the cafe is still open. the last time water rushed in like this was 36 years ago. at stinson beach, lisa aminute

gulezian, abc 7 news. >> reporter: the atmospheric river lived up to its name. the ground so saturated, it caused this 50-foot tree to fall onto bigelow avenue at 6:00 a.m. got your attention? association it w . >> oh, it was huge. >> having experienced the north bay fires, we were quite alarmed. we called 911. we thought we saw what could be a spark. >> reporter: pg&e crews removed dangerous live wires and worked to restore power to the neighborhood. >> it lasted a hundred years, they come down. no one got hurt, nothing was damaged. >> reporter: another tree fell, this one on to oakdale avenue.

some of the branches now resting on this garage. and across the street, narrowly missed damaging the garage right here. >> there are some risks, more of a wilderness setting. >> reporter: this large sinkhole could take days to repair. many ranchers like alfred piazza are stuck. >> my wife is sick, i've got to take care of her. if something happens, how will i get around it? >> reporter: highway 1 and western sonoma county looks more like a rain. the storm left this stretch underwater. the driver of the pickup truck taking a chance and plowing through. cornell barnard, abc 7 news. >> yosemite valley will likely reopen at noon today, following the merced river overflowing it's not banks from rainwater and melting snow. between two and four feet of water covered some roadways. visitors needed to leave yosemite valley by 5:00 friday

has been recovered near the site where a family's suv plunged into the water. it was found yesterday afternoon floating in the surf. the sheriff's office is working on the identity. at this time they know it's an african-american female, which means it could be one of the two missing girls from the crash. sheriff's officials say they'll need dna to make a positive i.d. that crash happened after washington state authorities began investigating the parents, sarah and jennifer hart, for possible child neglect. the couple's six adopted children were believed to be in the suv. the bodies of the parents and three children have been found. the bodies of the three other children were not immediately recovered. this morning, we know the name of the woman found dead off grizzly peak in the oakland hills. she's a 53-year-old resident of san pablo. her prius had gone over a cliff. the crash is under an

investigation. she had been reported missing by her boyfriend earlier in the week. he was in hawaii and is now cutting his vacation short to return to the bay area. an investigation continues this morning in new york city after a man died after being rescued from a burning high-rise apartment at trump tower. cellphone video captured all the smoke and the flames rising from windows on the 50th floor of the midtown manhattan high-rise yesterday evening. more than 200 firefighters raced to the scene. four suffered minor injuries while battling intense flames inside that burning apartment. >> it was extremely hot in the apartment. units pushing in are in great danger. but they do nonetheless. the apartment, they tell me, was quite large. >> fire marshals are investigating the cause of the fire. officials have issued a partial

vacate order to two of the residences there. no members of the first family were at trump tower at the time. trump tower includes luxury apartments, offices, and a shopping center. you're looking at what happened after an suv sheared off a fire hydrant in santa cruz yesterday morning. that jeep ended up on one side, leaning against a power pole. santa cruz firefighters tell us the driver is okay after they spent about ten minutes freeing him from his suv. pg&e shut off power in the nearby area so a tow truck could remove the jeep and part of socal avenue remained closed for cleanup after the crash. canada is mourning and condolences are pouring in from all over the globe after a deadly crash involving a popular youth hockey team. 15 people, many of them teenagers, were killed when a tractor trailer collided with their bus. abc 7 news reporter ron claiborne has the details.

>> reporter: this morning a nation grieving the loss of 15 people, many of them teenagers, after this devastating crash. >> we will never forget april 6th, 2018. >> reporter: it happened friday evening. a bus carrying the canadian junior hockey leagues broncos and the tractor trailer colliding. >> the hockey community has strong roots in our province. the sudden loss of so many lives will be felt not only in saskatchewan but across the country. >> reporter: on impact, the bus ripped apart, the wreck an strewn onto the rural highway. >> we will never forget the members of our broncos family who were taken from us. >> reporter: 14 on the bus injured. this heartbreaking photo showing three of the players holding hands in the hospital. among the dead, broncos head coach darcy hogan. >> those are his boys. i know he would, and he did, lay down his life for any of them. >> reporter: the players, who ranged in age from the teens to

20, were on their way to a semifinals match. the chicago back hawks and winnipeg jets wore jerseys with "broncos" on the back. ron claiborne, abc 7 news, new york. >> as you just heard and can imagine, that crash has hit close to home for many nhl teams. before last night's game at s.a.p. center, the sharks held a moment of silence for the victims. it was a similar scene before every game played yesterday in the nhl. sharks' head coach says taking the bus is a way of life for those who want to make it to the professional ranks. >> anybody that's got to this level has been on those buses at different points. and so it really hits close to home on a lot of different fronts. >> he has two sons playing

hockey right now and he says much like the junior hockey league players, they too ride the bus. an elderly couple married for 75 years died together in the north bay wildfires. the only thing to survive, the bills that kept on coming. >> i really couldn't even think about it. other people had already told me this. you should call michael finney. >> a special 7 on your side, tonight at 11:00. now an accuweather update from abc 7 mornings. here is live doppler 7 with a satellite image overlaid. it's clearing around the bay and san francisco. here's a live shot right now. as we look towards the golden gate bridge, temperatures in the 50s. san francisco, 54. oakland, 55. san jose, 56. this time we're looking from the north bay hills. there are some clouds out there.

again, we'll get lots of sunshine fairly soon. santa rosa and napa, 51. novato, 5, as well as fairfield. concord warm at 57 as well. santa cruz beach boardwalk area, it's blue. here is what you can expect for today. a few low clouds this morning. we'll see lots of sunshine this afternoon. and then get ready for much warmer weather tomorrow. t-shirt and shorts day. and then a chance of showers. that moves back into the forecast tuesday through thursday. so here is what's going on the last 24 hours with the satellite/radar image. the area of low pressure has moved in. the rain moved east as well. so we have high pressure building over the pacific. and as this moves east, that's going to warm up temperatures even more tomorrow. highs today will still be cool at the coast with an onshore flow. we'll get a breeze of about 10 to 20 miles per hour this afternoon. half moon bay, 60. san francisco, 61. oakland, 65. san jose, 69. and check out a few of the 70s

we might see later on. fairfield and antioch. and look for upper 60s through santa rosa and napa at 68. if you're headed to the giants game today, grab a light jacket. even though temperatures will be near 60 degrees, it will be breezy there as well. but lots of sunshine, so bring the sunscreen and sunglasses as well. overnight lows will be dropping into the 40s for most areas with mostly clear skies except along the coast, we could see some clouds there. ukiah cool at 40. san francisco mild at 42. upper 40s around the bay. here is what you can expect for the next seven days in terms of temperature. for today, we're right around average for san jose, 69. check out tomorrow, we'll be near 80 degrees. we're coming up by about 10 degrees. and then we have a couple of cold fronts moving through, and we drop down to 60 degrees on thursday. so it's a bit of a roller coaster ride in terms of temperatures. and that's because of the storm coming in. there's one on tuesday, a front comes in as well wednesday into

thursday. but for tuesday, we're expecting light showers. the best chances in the afternoon. and very little rainfall, maybe a quarter of an inch, that moves through the bay area. here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. so enjoy the mostly sunny sunday, inland areas near 70. mid-60s around the bay. at the coast, some areas still in the upper 50s to near 60. we have that one-day warm-up tomorrow. carolyn says try to play hooky if you can, because it will be near 80 inland, mid-70s around the bay. then some light rain on tuesday. then mostly dry through wednesday, but wednesday evening into thursday morning we get another front that passes through, bringing us some very chilly showers into thursday. >> i'm not encouraging anyone to play hooky. i'm just saying it's that kind of day. >> yes, it is that kind of day, let's be clear. >> thanks, frances. just ahead, an unusual visitor on a roof. and that's not the only surprising place goats have ended up in the last week.

on her way to volunteer for habitat for humanity in vietnam, marianne hickey's lyft driver had been forced to move. she did not have many things to fill her new home. >> i don't have to stress over trying to make enough money for a bed today, make enough money for my son's bed next week. >> people have been so generous, incredible, with their time. people have come to help me pack the truck, bringing things, dropping them off at my garage. i'm just a bit overwhelmed. >> more than 50 people responded to hickey's post to help kanisha paterson. okay, even goats need a little rest and relaxation. a man noticed this strange sight, yep, that is a goat on the roof of a dollar home in one of perth's prestigious suburbs.

the goat finally jumped off after several hours. last week in pennsylvania, a pair of goats got stuck in this precarious situation. thankfully local authorities were able to get them both to safety. nobody is sure how these guys ended up there. still to come here on abc 7 morning, alarmig new numbers about the growing tab of epa chief scott pruitt and what it's costing taxpayers. also bill cosby's retrial on sexual assault charges is slated to begin tomorrow. why the start may be delayed.

clouds out there. a live shot in san jose. temperatures in the 50s right now. sunny by lunchtime. and then this afternoon, we'll see temperatures in the 60s. in fact, during the mid-afternoon, we'll warm up to near 70 inland, mid-60s around the bay and at the coast, upper 50s. it will be a clear night tonight. we'll cool down further tomorrow morning. but another warm-up on the way. i'll have details coming up. >> thank you, frances. the san francisco sheriff's office wants to expand the body camera program in city jails. according to "the examiner," they're looking for $400,000 to pay for 400 more devices. the cameras would go to deputies at each of the city's jails and to deputies on patrol at zuckerberg san francisco general hospital. body cameras where given to 40 deputies back in august as part of a pilot program. that was the result of at least two alleged instances where deputies forced inmates to fight each other. three deputies face criminal

charges in connection with those fights. developing news, more than 40 people including children may be dead, many more injured in a possible chemical attack near syria's capital. a warning now, this video may be difficult to watch. the poison gas attack happened late last night when toxic gas inside barrels was dropped by helicopters. families were found suv indicated in their homes and in their shelters. president trump responded on twitter, saying, quote, president putin, russia and iran are responsible for backing animal assad. big price to pay, another humanitarian disaster for no reason whatsoever. president trump is reiterating his support for his embattled epa chief. scott pruitt is facing a series of ethical questions from his security and travel expenses to his housing situation. abc 7 news reporter tara palmieri has more.

>> reporter: president trump standing by yet another cabinet member under fire. the president out for dinner in washington saturday night showed his continued support for embattled epa administrator scott pruitt, tweeting, while security spending was somewhat more than his predecessor, scott pruitt has received death threats because of his bold actions at epa. this coming hours after new documents show that pruitt's 20-member full time security detail has cost taxpayers close to $3 million. >> scott has done a fantastic job. i think he's a fantastic person. >> reporter: the president meanwhile not losing sight of the border wall he promised. these are the first of 4,000 national guard troops he authorized to protect the mexican border. >> we're going to be guarding our border with the military. >> reporter: trump responding to an uptick in illegal bordering crossings in march. >> we don't know if they're murderers, if they're killers,

if they're ms-13. >> reporter: despite the quakes in the stock market this week, the president is not softening his tone on china, after announcing $50 billion with tariffs on chinese goods, after beijing announced $50 billion in tariffs on u.s. goods. president trump said, china must end unfair trade. tara palmieri, abc 7 news, washington. >> as tara just mentioned, the first national guard troops are now on their way to secure the u.s. border with mexico, after a new effort that president trump announced last week. texas will send the first 250 troops. arizona plans to deploy another 150 guardsmen to the border sometime next week. california governor jerry brown and new mexico's governor have not said whether they'll send guard members to their borders with mexico. german police do not believe an islamic extremist group was behind yesterday's deadly van

attack that killed two people. the driver shot himself to death after plowing into a crowd outside a popular bar in muenster, near germany's western border with the netherlands. the crash injured 20 people, six still in critical condition. investigators say the driver was a german citizen. they're trying to learn more about his background. >> when you throw in mental health possibilities, it still could be an extremist group like isis or al qaeda. but it also could be a person who is just paranoid, delusional. >> witnesses telling police other people may have run from the van after it crashed into the crowd. police are trying to verify if that is what actually happened. bill cosby's retrial on sexual assault charges is set to begin tomorrow. but a potential issue with a juror could cause a delay. cosby's attorneys want that juror booted.

>> reporter: bill cosby flashing that familiar smile and waving to fans as he entered a pennsylvania courthouse on friday. drama in the courtroom days before argopening arguments, hi defense team urging the judge to oust a male juror after a woman juror claimed in an affidavit the man said, "i just think he's guilty so we can all be done and get out of here." but a possible inconsistency. the woman describing him as in his mid-20s. reports say that 11th juror in question appears to be middle-aged. it comes after cosby's lawyers accused the judge of discrimination for removing a woman from the jury. the judge ultimately upholding her dismissal. the volley over jurors beginning

the mt. st. helena golf course in calistoga is expected to reopen next week, three weeks after its original opening date. the course was scheduled to open a week ago. crews were working to clean up significant tree damage left behind by the october wildfires. but because of all the recent heavy rain and cold temperatures, officials were forced to push the opening back

i'm meteorologist frances dinglasan. we're starting off with live doppler 7 and the satellite image. look how quickly the clouds have cleared. lots of sunny conditions around the bay area. some clouds hovering over the north bay and along the coast. a live shot as we look towards downtown san francisco. and temperatures are in the 50s for the most part. san francisco, 54. oakland, 55. san jose, 56. mid-50s for gilroy and half moon bay. this time we're looking from the east bay hills towards downtown oakland and across the bay. there's still a few clouds out there. some cooler numbers in santa rosa and napa, 51 degrees. we also had some fog in napa this morning. more mid-50s, upper 50s, livermore currently at 55 degrees. santa cruz beach boardwalk, notice the winds are blowing but the skies are clear. we do have a few low clouds. that's going to clear very quickly. a sunny afternoon. and then, get ready for much warmer temperatures tomorrow. by as much as 10 degrees warmer than average, compared to today.

and then we have a chance of showers tuesday, wednesday, and thursday. and i'll show you how the timing of that plays out. highs today will mainly be in the 60s. look for 61 in san francisco. some mid-60s around the bay. so oakland, 65. fremont, 67. our warmest spots will be in some inland areas like fairfield and antioch, hitting 70. some upper 60s in the north bay. napa, 68. and 69 in san jose. lows tonight will be cooler because of the clearer skies. so lots of 40s out there. milder, though, in san francisco at 52. check out ukiah, 40 degrees overnight. it will be chilly when you wake up tomorrow morning. now, one of our models for tomorrow shows some 80s out there. i wanted to just show you that, to give you a preview. 80 in cloverdale and san jose. around the bay we're seeing lots of 70s as well. it's going to be sunny and warm tomorrow. but then that all changes on tuesday, when abc 7 news' storm

impact scale. this next system ranks a light 1. we'll see light showers, best chances in the afternoon. we're talking very little rainfall. less than a quarter of an inch. it might even be a lot less than that. here is the forecast animation on tuesday. we'll start to see increasing clouds. and then this front moves through very quickly on tuesday. but you notice it's light green. it's very light rain. and then it's gone. most of the day wednesday will be dry. we'll start to see increasing clouds and then a chance of rain wednesday night into thursday. and very little moisture with the system. so even on thursday, we are not going to get much rain. but it will bring us some chilly temperatures. so here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. mostly sunny today, inland near 70. around the bay, mid-60s. then we have our one day warm-up. t-shirt and shorts weather. get out the sunglasses and the sunscreen. near 80 inland. mid-70s around the bay. mid-60s at the coast. we have some light rain possibly on tuesday. and then another frontal system

moves in wednesday night, late showers, into thursday. snow levels may drop down to 3,500 feet. so it's going to be really cool. not much moisture, so we're not expecting a lot of rain. then warmer into next weekend. >> so sunglasses, sunscreen one day, and umbrella the next. >> then jackets on thursday. >> thank you, frances. the massive effort to complete san francisco's central subway has just reached a major milestone. a handful of reporters toured the underground cave that's soon to become the chinatown central subway station. abc 7 news reporter jonathan bloom has a look at what's taking shape. >> reporter: you see that orange box dangling from a crane? that's where we're going. down we go into the massive hole that's been taking shape more than 100 feet below san francisco's chinatown. if it looks like a mine shaft, that's for good reason. the contractors say this is the first transit station in the

country built by mining underground rather than digging an open hole and then covering it up. >> because we want to protect the street above and all the environment around it. >> reporter: this is what they call the platform cavern. it's 54 feet wide and 42 feet high. mayor mark farrell is seeing it for the first time. >> this is awe inspiring to me. >> reporter: he's long been a champion of the project that's seen more than its share of controversy. >> the more we can put traffic underground, the better it will be. >> reporter: but that's a big job. one that's just hit a milestone. >> we've completed what we would consider the biggest obstacle, the mining operation. that's why you see all the finished work, no more dirt except for the concrete. >> reporter: this spot will be filled in with concrete by the time the station is complete. a couple of feet above my head is where people will stand as they wait for the train. >> i was down in this station a year ago when it was pretty much a dirt pit. >> reporter: she says now the subway is on track to take paying customers by december 2019. that's a year later than originally planned, and still badly needed.

happening now, thousands of runners are hitting the streets of san francisco for the annual rock and roll half marathon. earlier this morning our golden gate bridge cam shows participants running across the span. both the east and west sidewalks are temporarily closed on the bridge to bicyclists and pedestrians. they'll be closed until 10:30, another half hour. the 13.1 mile course started at pier 39 at 6:15 this morning. the course will also take runners past marina green and ft. mason. they'll finish up next to gear
