degrees warmer around the bay and inland. by 7:00, 61 at the coast. 71 to 73, great evening coming at you. how about the commute this morning, sue? >> a problem at the bay bridge toll plaza. it's on the right-hand side. you can see the big rig there, just clearing the tow truck that's on that right-hand side. a couple of cars got into it in the commuter lane, in the car pool lane. otherwise just a minor delay at the cash paying tolls. give yourself a little extra time if you're headed to the bay bridge. no metering lights. we have an accident on the san mateo bridge about halfway up on your screen blocking the left-hand shoulder. it was a motorcycle involved. so far just some minor slowing past that scene there. both bay bridge and san mateo bridge have issues this morning. >> police are thanking a couple of total strangers who intervened in a knife attack at a b.a.r.t. station. >> the stabbing appears to be random. abc news reporting amy hollyfield live in walnut creek.

good morning, amy. >> reporter: good morning, natasha. this is not the story commuters want to hear this morning. police say it does appear these two people who were on b.a.r.t. were randomly attacked. police arrested this man. he is 32-year-old robert dolph of san francisco. witnesses say he had been muttering to himself on the train and shouting out random things. this is at the coliseum station that he followed two people off the train and started stabbing them near the fare gates. that's when a brave stranger stepped in and may have saved their lives. >> there was an individual, a third party that wasn't involved in a courageous and selfless act intervened and grabbed the knife from the suspect and in the process his hands were cut, but he was able to get the knife away from the suspect and then he was able to tackle the

suspect to the ground and hold him there until the officers arrived a short time later. >> reporter: the victim are siblings, a 50-year-old man in critical condition and a woman in her 60s who is in fair condition. police say the suspect confessed to the attacks but did not give a motive. reporting live from the b.a.r.t. station in walnut creek, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. it's 5:03 now. a man suspected of sexually assaulting a jogger in palo alto is off the streets. he was arrested at his home in richmond. the attack happened in march 28th and led to a large manhunt. a jogger told police she was attacked on a trail, held at gunpoint and assaulted in broad daylight. evidence led police to identify the suspect as shef var yeah diaz. palo alto police say he's linked to a similar attack in oakland. san francisco police investigating gunfire that sent

people ducking for cover on geary boulevard. according to police, two men were shooting at two other men near baker street. it doesn't appear anyone got hit by the gunfire. several people saw the shooting happen and called 911. >> they were running. they ducked in between -- first there was the first set and then once t once the second ones started, they were running. >> 911 reports were around ten shots or so. i believe we've located around that number of shale casings. >> the nearby keiser permanente meddle center went into lockdown. no arrests have been made. facebook has lost apple co-founder steve wozniak says he left facebook because of growing concern over the way the menlo park company treats the private information of his users. he said he'd rather pay for facebook than have personal information exploited for advertising. >> my sidewalks are covered with

these electric scooters. now the companies in san francisco have until the end of the day to apply for permits to operate their businesses. abc 7 news reporter kate larson has the story. >> there's a new way to get around town. you just stand on it. >> reporter: electric scooters with a max speed of 15 miles per hour have been popping up on san francisco street corners for the past three weeks. >> we wanted to experience the city. this was the easiest way to cover the most ground we possibly can. >> reporter: three companies, lime bike, bird and spin have lined up scooters you rent through an app. city rules have not caught up with the technology. sfmda asked all three companies to submit operation planned by friday. lime bike sent me their plan which details how they educate their riders on the rules of the road. lime bike says they want their riders to obey state laws like wearing helmets. as you can see, none of the

scooters come equipped with helmets. nobody we spoke to today broke their own. >> i don't normally have a helmet on me, for obvious reasons. i think either they should provide one or maybe it should be enforced a little more. >> reporter: one lime user did show us where you can collect a free helmet. but that's only available in union city and san diego. not everyone is the fan. >> i've seen them in the most wild places. in trash they're strewn about all over the embarcadero. i'm concerned i'll accidentally one run over and endanger my passengers. >> reporter: more and more seem to scoot down city streets. kate larson, abc 7 news. >> it's 5:06 now. the san francisco sheriff's office wants to expand the body camera program in city jails.

according to the examiner, the sheriff is looking for 400,000 dollars to pay for 400 more devices. it would go to deputies at jail and at san francisco general hospital. body cameras were given to 40 deputies in august, following at least two alleged instances where deputies forced inmates to fight one another. three deputies face criminal charges in connection to those fights. myrrh rag ga police are warning folks about credit card fraud due to skimming. people's numbers have been taken and used illegally in southern california. police say gas pumps are easy targets because they're unattended and accessed easily. let's take a look at the temperatures now that you're only seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. half moon bay is one of the cooler spots. most of us two to three degrees cooler. nothing too extreme there. let's check out temperatures in

fire is suspicious in nature. it started late yesterday afternoon in an open space near granger's wharf. the weekend rain left grass wet and green which is why they think someone set the fire. this video shows the remnants of the burnt shuttle bus on 880. the fire closed two lanes. dispatchers across the south bay will be celebrated all week as part of national public safety telecommunicators week. thousands of people who dispatch emergency responders will be honored for their work. there will be awards including dispachler of the year. the week-long event started in 1981 by the contra costa sheriff's office to thank those who dedicate their lives serving the public. today is the last day to take advantage of a unique estate sale. there's a lot more than just

give yourself a little extra time. the big problem spot, look at this, the san mateo bridge. we had a motorcycle accident. emergency crews are blocking a couple of lanes of traffic. it was pushed to the left-hand shoulder. apparently those emergency crews needed to take up a lane or two. so that is why you are just bumper-to-bumper, even from before the toll plaza. dumbarton may be your good alternate or the bay bridge toll plaza. bay bridge we had a couple of problems there. we'll collect on that in a couple minutes to see if the metering lights are on and if that earlier problem at the toll plaza has been cleared. we'll be back in a couple. abc late night star jimmy came mel has apologized to sean hannity. earlier he mocked melania trump's accent. kimmel intimated that hannity's support for president trump has a sexual overtone. yesterday he tweeted that while

de la vega live in menlo park. janine? >> reporter: reggie, the hits keep coming. if you have an effected account you'll get a message at the top of your news feed letting you know if your information was improperly shared. now, that detailed message, as i mentioned, will appear at the top of your news feed. facebook says most of the roughly 70 million affected users are in the u.s. this all comes as facebook has suspended another data firm for harvesting information from users. the company says cube you is now being investigated after allegations surfaced it was misleading users. cnbc reported data was being collected through personality quizzes that cube you build as academic research. cnbc claims they were sharing the information with markers. cambridge analytical was accused of collecting the personal information of up to 87 million facebook users. that company worked for the

rainfall totals are about 10% to 15% of that atmospheric river we had. i'll give you an hour by hour look on how this unfolds tuesday and wednesday. a man in custody after climbing a construction crane in hollywood. he had an american flag wrapped around him. 200 feet above the ground. police officers and firefighters tried to convince him to come down. after about three hours the man was finally safely in custody. police say he was very apologetic. paramedics brought him to the hospital to be evaluated. it's still unclear why he did this. 5:53. a husband and wife who nearly lost their home in this year's montecito mudslides has been
