crazy is right. hopefully rob could tell us when this weather will finally warm up. >> he is standing by with that. but we also have breaking news this morning. we're going to begin with the dangerous international tensions over that horrific attack in syria and news now on that new strike on syria after the suspected chemical attack killing 40 citizens, including women and children, in the city of douma, that's just outside the capital of damascus and president trump saying president putin, russia and iran are responsible for backing animal assad. big price to pay. russia now firing back this morning calling reports of the attack a hoax and warning of serious consequences. so let's go right to abc's chief global affairs correspondent, martha raddatz, who is with us this morning. good morning, martha. >> reporter: good morning, david. these images are so disturbing the children, the families in such distress and already there are claims of retaliation. overnight, a watchdog group reporting 14 were killed in a missile attack on a syrian air base. pentagon officials say the u.s. is not conducting air strikes in syria. russia and syria claiming israel

is responsible for the strike. this follows that suspected chemical attack in syria on saturday. these chilling images appear to show the aftermath. medical workers washing off young children and infants who are struggling to breathe. many of the images too graphic to show. entire families appear to have been killed by the attack. rebel activists and rescuers say at least 40 are dead. suffocating from an unknown substance. the suspected chemical attack came after a month's long siege on the rebel-held district of douma near damascus. while u.s. intelligence is assessing the strike, president trump called it a mindless chemical attack in a tweet and blamed president putin, russia and iran for backing animal assad. his first denunciation of russian president vladimir putin on twitter. the white house not ruling out a military response.

>> can you rule out taking acti actions? >> reporter: it was just over a year ago when the images from this chemical attack in syria led president trump to order a missile strike on a syrian military airfield in retaliation. >> that crosses many, many lines, beyond a red line. >> reporter: but since that strike, according to human rights watch, there have been at least six other suspected chemical attacks in syria. u.n. ambassador nikki haley saying the u.s. and eight other nations will hold an emergency security counsel meeting today tweeting, strong action is needed. the regime of syrian president bashar al assad denies using chemical weapons saying the videos are fabricated. and russia is still backing assad, warning that any military intervention could lead to the most serious consequences. >> all right, so let's get right back to martha. because, martha, you and i were

on the air just over a week ago when president trump suddenly announced on stage in ohio we'll be coming out of syria. words that surprised the pentagon, the state department and now this, he meets with top military leaders today? >> reporter: he does, david. president trump has a previously scheduled meeting with high-level military leaders at the white house. if the president decides on a military response, it could come quickly. last year the american military response took place less than three days after the chemical attacks. trump's comments last week you were talking about were about the fight against isis. this suspected chemical attack is being blamed on the syrian government and, david, as you know, given what the president has already tweeted, and knowing how he responds to images, i would not be at all surprised if he ordered a missile strike this time as well. >> we're watching this very closely throughout the day. thank you. let's get right to retired marine colonel steve ganyard. colonel ganyard, you heard martha report the last time the american response was just three days after the chemical attack. did the president strike on syria a year ago, in essence, to

set a new red line here? does it rachet up the pressure to respond? >> the last time the u.s. struck the syrians were using chemical weapons. it was a warning. it really wasn't intended to degrade the syrian military. so they have now crossed that line when the president told them, don't do it again. so the president is going to have to, if he takes military action, do something much broader, something much tougher. it will be a strike that will be much larger than we saw a year ago. >> steve, if he does take action what does the u.s. have there ready to go? >> the u.s. keeps a lot of firepower in that part of the world as you can imagine, david. there are ships at sea. there are submarines that are capable of shooting tomahawk missiles. bombers can be moved into the area quite easily so, if the president does order some kind of a military action, there's plenty of firepower on hand to conduct that. >> steve, as you heard at the top assad now saying these videos are fabricated even as the world watches the suffering. you have got rt and russia now reporting that moscow is

calling this fake news. how do you verify that a chemical attack in fact happened and what kind of chemicals? >> it's difficult. a real chemical attack investigation would take weeks because you have to get on the ground and you have to look at the soil. you have to do the chemical analysis. the president has asked the u.s. intelligence community to come up with an answer in 12 hours. that is going to be very difficult to do. >> he wants that answer in 12 hours. steve, our thanks to you as well. amy? with those words from president trump last week saying he wants to pull troops out of syria, let's go right now to abc senior white house correspondent cecilia vega. cecilia, this suspected chemical attack changing his thinking in any way? >> reporter: amy, this is the question for this white house right now. whether he has a change thinking after seeing those images. as we have been saying all morning, this comes just days after the president said he wants to pull all 2,000 american troops out of syria, much to the frustration of his own national security advisers and now some republicans say there is a direct connection between the president telegraphing those plans and what we are seeing on the ground there with those horrific images.

senator lindsey graham says, quote, it is no accident they used chemical weapons but the president can reset the table here. he is calling this a defining moment for this administration and take a look at what senator john mccain has said. he is tweeting, the president's pledge to withdraw from syria has only emboldened assad and he should respond again. the president should respond again and make assad pay a price for his brutality, amy. >> cecilia, we just heard from martha raddatz that president trump will be meeting with his top military advisers today. what can we expect? >> reporter: well, as martha said, this is a previously scheduled meeting but certainly syria is going to be at the top of the agenda. it happens here at the white house this evening and we can tell you there will be cameras at least at this point we expect inside for some of that meeting. today is national security adviser john bolton's first day on the job and as you guys know he has been a known hawk, someone who has advocated for air strikes against syria in the past. amy. >> all right. we know you'll keep us updated. thanks so much.

michael. >> thank you, amy. now to more snow in april. two weeks into spring and winter is still sticking around causing a lot of chaos on the roads. and our senior meteorologist rob marciano is tracking the latest. good morning, rob. >> good morning, michael. another monday, another week closer to summer, and we're still talking about snow. the gray and white, unwanted on the weather map. this is what it looked like yesterday. sioux falls, south dakota, record for the day of five inches of snowfall, across minnesota we saw over 100 accidents. this spinout near i-94. there were some injuries with some of these crashes and the twins game called because of snow and cold on sunday, and this across mason city, iowa, even getting down across parts of the south, louisville saw some snow yesterday. and the cold is stuck up here and very february-like jet stream keeping it across the northern tier, so active pattern there with more disturbances coming through. chicago seeing snow, detroit as well, i mentioned louisville, and gets into the northeast tonight and tomorrow and may get

a coastal low and temperatures are marginal. see a little snow at best but it's still going to be very uncomfortable for the second week of april. temperatures today feeling like they're in the teens and 20s and tomorrow not a whole lot warmer. there is a little bit of hope, michael. a little bit. we'll talk more about that later in the program. >> everyone here at the desk is shaking their head like there is no hope, rob, but we'll hang in there with you, my friend. i believe in you. you'll turn it around at some point. thank you for that. now we go to that facebook privacy scandal. the social media giant says it will begin to alert those 87 million users today whose information was shared with cambridge analytica. abc's chief business correspondent rebecca jarvis joins us and, rebecca, good morning to you. the big question, if you're 1 of those 87 million, how will you be alerted? >> today everyone will see something new at the top of their newsfeed. those who have been impacted are going to see that longer message that you see there on the right that will alert those 87 million people who might have been impacted by this cambridge analytica scandal and then on the left that's what everyone else will see at the top of their newsfeed.

this is something that will allow you to see every app that you've ever given permission to and you can follow the link there. michael, it will allow you to delete those apps if you no longer want them to access your information. >> okay, now we're also hearing that another firm, a second firm has been suspended for using the same tactics, as cambridge analytica? >> eerily similar. this is a company called cubeyou that was giving personality quizzes to its users, things called you are what you like or apply magic sauce. these were personality quizzes that you could access on facebook. all of a sudden over the weekend, it was discovered they might not be what they claimed to be, which was a nonprofit academic research organization. instead, it looks like they might have been a marketer that was collecting this data to then sell it out to advertisers in a similar way that cambridge analytica uncovered their information. since then facebook has suspended cubeyou. they are pursuing a full investigation. they told me overnight that cubeyou has two options at is this point. either they can comply with the

investigation or if they don't, they will be banned from the site. if they comply, and it's found that there is an issue, they will also be banned. >> all of this comes as mark zuckerberg is headed to washington to testify. >> he's going to be in washington this week and you can imagine it's going to be a very sincere grilling from lawmakers this week. >> absolutely. rebecca, thank you so much. amy? turning now to two disturbing crashes, frightening images of a bus crash breaking overnight here in new york. this as officials investigate into that devastating bus disaster in canada carrying a junior hockey team colliding with a tractor-trailer killing 15, including 10 players. abc's senior transportation correspondent david kerley joins us now with the latest on both of these crashes. good morning to you, david. >> reporter: good morning, amy. first, this overnight bus crash. it was a bus full of students returning from a spring break trip to europe. they had landed at jfk and were on their way home to long island. authorities say that the driver apparently wasn't familiar with the low bridges on the southern state parkway on long island.

all 44 on board were hit -- hurt, rather. two seriously as you can see. the large part of that roof just sheared off. but most of the minor injuries were minor. and now to that other crash where a young hockey team lost nearly half of their players in a crash just a couple of days ago. overnight, the canadian prime minister and his son, just two of the thousands who came to remember the 15 hockey players and staff killed in that bus crash. nearly every person in this small town of 6,000 touched in some way by the tragedy. the head coach among the dead. >> he talked about the fact that the humboldt broncos were about not building hockey players but creating amazing young men and that's what we had in our organization was amazing young men. and that was darcy's belief. >> reporter: the bus was heading to a hockey tournament when it was hit in the side by a tractor trailer friday. 14 were injured, 3 critically. a powerful image of some of the

players in the hospital. the cause of the crash is still being determined. among the players killed, jaxon joseph, the 21-year-old son of former penguin, chris joseph. logan schatz was just awarded player of the month and queen elizabeth saying, our thoughts and prayers are with those who have lost so much, with their families and with all canadians who grieve with them at this difficult time. this morning, a gofundme page to help the families and team has surpassed its $4 million goal. >> we're going to need to be there for each other, not just weeks, not months, but it could be longer. >> reporter: the truck driver survived and has been questioned by police. over the weekend, the nhl paying tribute. several teams wearing the jerseys of the broncos. and you can see the players tapping their sticks on the ice as a message to those who were lost. authorities in canada say they are looking at all possible causes, amy, including the weather. no determination yet what caused that accident.

>> all right, david kerley, thanks so much. your heart just breaks for everyone in that community. >> surpassing the $4 million mark. shows that everyone is feeling this for them. all right, amy. thank you. now to a frantic multistate manhunt this morning for a man accused of killing his own mother and a friend sharing chilling details on a now-deleted facebook post. police assuming the suspect is still on the loose armed and dangerous, and abc's steve osunsami joins us from atlanta with the very latest. hey, steve. >> reporter: good morning to you, david, this facebook post is quiet detailed and deeply disturbing. this young man takes full responsibility for his alleged crimes and also says he has been suicidal since high school. authorities across three states, tennessee, mississippi and georgia are desperately searching for this 23-year-old who they believe is armed and dangerous. they say casey lawhorn has already killed, his mother and a friend are dead. he called police himself to report the crimes. >> he is calling in and saying at the john ross road location

about three hours ago he killed two people and is threatening to kill himself. >> reporter: when police raced to this home outside chattanooga, they found two victims with gunshot wounds, but no sign of lawhorn except for what they're calling a digital confession that he left on his facebook page and has since been deleted. most of it is too difficult to share. this morning, at around 1:30, i shot and killed my mother and a close friend of mine with a stolen .22. i had hoped both were going to be quick and efficient. i didn't want my mom to suffer to die in horror, to die with the knowledge that her son did it. >> suspect said that he has left the scene and is mentally unstable and suicidal at this time. >> reporter: late sunday night, police found lawhorn's abandoned car nearly 350 miles away near vosberg, mississippi. at first they thought he had shot himself and was still inside the car. this morning, they're hoping to capture him alive. >> we don't know where he's at. we're going to assume he's armed and dangerous. >> reporter: lawhorn claimed to have written that facebook message from inside this car

movement was swift, nearly 200,000 tweets including actress alyssa milano who wrote, wow, tony robbins, this is appalling. good luck trying to recover from this. >> if that doesn't work try something else. >> reporter: tony robbins is apologizing for these onstage remarks about the me too movement. >> if you use the me too movement to try to get significance and certainty by attacking and destroying someone else you haven't grown an ounce. all you've done is basically used a drug called significance to make yourself feel good. >> reporter: the comments were made last month at one of his unleash the power within events. it quickly went viral after the website now this news posted this video clip of his exchange with audience member nanine mccool. >> so i think you misunderstand the me too movement. i think the me -- >> not for you personally. what you are seeing is people making themselves significant by somebody else wrong and getting certainty and there's nothing wrong with that. it just won't make you happy. i'm not knocking the me too movement. i'm knocking victimhood.

>> reporter: mccool pushes back. >> certainly there are people who are using it for their own personal devices. but there are also a significant number of people who are using it not to re -- to relive whatever may or may have happened to them but to make it safe for the young women. >> his attitude and the things he said in there that he thinks are perfectly okay are exactly what's wrong. >> reporter: at one point, robbins invites mccool to join him. attempting to illustrate his point. >> put out your fist. why are you pushing back? i didn't tell you to push back. why are you pushing back? why are you pushing so hard? when you push someone else it doesn't make you more safe. it just makes them angry. >> reporter: he then shared an example of how he's apparently seen the movement play out in real life. >> i was just with someone the other day, very powerful man who is saying how stressed he is he interviewed three people, two

men and one woman. she was qualified, but she was attractive and he knew i haven't have her around because it's too big a risk. >> i was really shocked by him saying that. it was a terrible example. >> reporter: even the founder of #metoo tarana burke slamming him posting tony robbins, if you talk more to survivors and less sexist businessmen, maybe you'll understand what we want. we want safety, we want healing. we want accountable. robbins is now apologizing, writing on facebook, i watch in awe as more and more women all over the world find their voice and stand up and speak out. all of our growth begins with learning. it is clear that i still have much to learn. i need to get connected to the brave women of #metoo. robbins says that there is more to come and some of his followers are supporting him online saying his comments were simply misunderstood and mccool, the woman who was in the audience, told us she thinks his apology could have been better but called it a good start.

>> thanks so much. larry hackett partner at 10ten media joins us with more. it's one thing to read the comments and another to actually see this video. how bad is this video for tony robbins? >> the optics are terrible. first the comment about significance i don't understand, the vision of him pushing against that woman, he's 6'7" is really kind of frightening and then the idea this anecdote about a guy who he knows that won't hire women because he doesn't want to deal with the hassle. >> it will be worse if you push back. >> empathy, he understands people. this is terrible for that kind of message. the second thing is, his connection to celebrities. they'll be running away, stampeding away from him after what he said here. he needs to connect with people fast if he wants to fix this situation. >> alyssa milano said good luck trying to recover from this. he did apologize. was that enough? >> that wasn't enough. he has to amp it up. he needs to transform what's within him and apologize profusely, continuously and loudly if he hopes to get out of this hole. >> talk about how high the stakes are for someone like tony robbins.

carpet. but i realized on the drive to the premiere that he didn't -- it didn't dawn on him when i said we're going to the premiere that he was going to get to see the movie. he thought it was just like walk down the carpet and he was going to do some interviews. so he got to see the movie and he was vibrating the whole time. his eyes were broken out of his skull. it's a cool movie. and just seeing these monsters and duane come to life and him meeting duane was spectacular too. >> he knows that's a big deal. >> he thinks -- he thought it was a big deal until he met duane, yeah. yeah. that's exactly what happened. the movie. if you see the movie you'll know exactly what i'm talking about. he landed on top of me and i was supposed to be unconscious and it made a sound come out of my body that i didn't know was possible to make like real high, the wind and the ribs cracking. and then he started giggling and i'm like, oh, no, we're going to have to do it again. >> he took you back to his football days at the university of miami if that's exactly right. >> your character, we love to hate you on "the walking dead." >> thank you. yeah. thank you, yeah. >> your character, you do some brutal -- some brutal things. can your character redeem himself? >> oh, well, you know, i think we were making steps at some redemption i think as we find out more of his back story and how he became and i think at this point in the story everybody has made it this far in this apocalypse has done some very horrible things.

>> announcer: this is an abc news special report. now reporting, david muir. good morning and we're coming on the air at this hour because president trump is meetding with his cabinet at the white house right now over the growing crisis in syria. the president discussing how to respond to the suspected chemical attack blamed for killing dozens of civilians in douma, near the capital city of demascus. it is believed the attack was carried out be the syrian regime, and in recent tweets, president trump calling assad an animal, and blaming putin for backing assad, and saying there will be a, quote, big price. let's get to martha raddatz live in washington. the last time, about a year ago, we know it was just three days before the u.s. struck after first evidence of chemical warfare back then. what kind of proof are they

looking for right now and what action could come? >> reporter: what they did the last time they struck, last year, they had satellite imagery and they knew what kind of aircraft dropped those bombs that contained chemicals. this time, they will look and see if they have the same kind of evidence. they will try for tissue samples. they will try for soil samples, but those will be very, very hard to get because this is the assad regime and they will be looking out for that, and they will want to bury that evidence. >> releasing that flight path, and let's get to cecilia vega at the white house. the president creating his own red line a year ago, a new one. >> reporter: yeah. he said he was moved, david, by seeing those horrible foe tes in syria the last time around. moved deeply on a personal level and beswe saw the tomahawk missiles. >> let's listen. >> ban chemical weapons. it was an atrocious attack.

it was horrible. you don't see things like that as bad as the news around the world. you just don't see those images. we are studying that situation extremely closely. we are meeting with our military and everybody else, and we'll be making some major decisions to every the next 24 to 48 hours. we are very concerned. when a thing like that can happen, this is about humanity. we're talking about humanity, and it can't be allowed to happen. so we'll be looking at that barbaric act and studying what's going on. we're trying to get people in there. as you know, it has been surrounded. it's very hard to get people in because not only has it been hit, it's been surrounded. and if they are innocent, why aren't they allowing other

people to go and improve? they are claiming they didn't make the attack. so if it's russia, if it's syria, if it's iran, if it's all of them together, we'll figure it out, and we'll know the answers quite soon. so we're looking at that very, very strongly and very seriously. i would also like to provide an update on trade negotiations. we have a situation with china where we have after very good relationship with china and i think we'll maintain that relationship. i'm very good friends with president xi. i have great respect for president xi, and as you know, i spent two days in china. the president spent two days with us in mar-a-lago in florida, and they were four great days. with that being said, china has been taking advantage of the

united states for many years. really, if you look at it, since the start of the world trade organization, and they have really done a number on this country. and i don't blame china. i blame the people running our country. i blame presidents. i blame representatives, i blame negotiators. we should have been able to do what they did. we didn't do it. they did. and it's the most lopsided set of trade rules, regulations that anybody has ever seen. with that being said, we have many of the horrible deals. we're renegotiating and we'll see what happens. we're strongly renegotiating nafta. if you look at the european union, they have tremendous trade barriers. we essentially have bad deals wi with everyone. we're close to finishing a deal with south korea.

that was going to give us 200,000 jobs. that didn't happen. that gave them 200,000 jobs and we lost jobs. that was a horrible deal and it's being renegotiated. and we have -- we have a long way to go. we have made tremendous progress. we are fairly close on nafta, and if we don't make the right deal, we'll terminate nafta and make the right deal after that. we have a chance to make a deal on nafta, and as i said, the north korea -- south korea situation which complicates it. the deal we have with south korea, i think it's going to be a very fair deal. we want a fair deal and we don't have fair deals. north korea by the way, as you have probably seen, we have been in touch with north korea. we'll be meeting with them some time in may or early june, and i

think there will be great respect paid by both parties and hopefully we will be able to make a deal on the de-nuking of north korea. they have said so. we have said so. hopefully it will be a relationship that's much different than it has been for many, many years. this should have been done by other presidents and they decided they didn't do it. they couldn't have done it, but it would have been a lot easier if it were done five years ago, ten years ago, 20 years ago. a lot easier than now, but we have a meeting that is being set up with north korea, so that will be very exciting, i think for the world. i think it will be an exciting thing for the world. we're going to be talking about opioid today. opioid destruction and drug destruction. as you know, we strengthened up our southern border. last year, we had record low numbers and they have gone up, and the economy, people are

trying to come into our good economy, but we're putting the national guard and military at the border. we're i.c.e. has done a fantastic job. we will take care of that situation. we need a wall. whether you're a republican or democrat, we need a wall. it will stop your drug flow, it will not the hell out of the drug flow. it will stop a lot of people we don't want in this country from coming into our country. but right now we're putting the military and the national guard and we don't have strong borders. we have strong borders now and they're going to be stronger. with that, the cabinet meeting will begin. we'll be discussing a lot of different elements of what's going on. the country is doing very well. we've created 3 million jobs since the election. we have 700,000 jobs in the
