>> reporter: facebook has its fans evidenced as you can see, people are posing in front of the thumb's up sign. sometime today, users find out if their information was improperly shared. facebook knows it owes an explanation to the users. the social media giant says a message will appear in the news feed if the information was given to cambridge analytica without your consent. >> of course i'd like to know. it's our privacy, and i guess we're all entitled to that and expect to have it private when we sign up. >> reporter: facebook came under fire learning a third party app collected information from facebook accounts and shared it with cambridge analytica, a firm that worked for donald trump's 2016 presidential election campaign. it's accused of collecting personal information of 87 million users. >> i think politically it's not a good thing, especially in the way they've used it now. and i think that hopefully, you

know, they'll be grounds to punish the people that, ewe know, took advantage of that. >> zuckerberg is testifying on capitol hill tuesday and wednesday about the data privacy scandal and will also talk about russian election interference. in prepared remarks today, zuckerberg said, quote, there's no question that we shouldn't have spotted russian interference earlier and are working hard to make sure it doesn't happen again. >> reporter: zuckerberg says he's forming an independent commission and that commission will end up studying the effects of social media on elections. now, the goal of that is so that leading academics will will do some research and they're going to make sure that facebook can be held accountable for the integrity of elections on facebook. reporting live from menlo park, abc 7 news. >> if you go to abc7news.com right now, we have the full prepared statement from mark zuckerberg on the website, and

we'll stream his testimony live on our website and news app tomorrow morning and again, of course, on wednesday when he testifies in front of the house. facebook has lost a famous user this morning. apple cofounder says he's left facebook because of growing concern over the way the menlo park company treats the private information of its users. he says he'd rather pay for facebook than have personal information exploited for advertising. this morning, youtube is accused of illegally collecting data from the youngest users. a group of child advocates filed a complaint complaining the company profits off young viewers by collecting data and targeting ads to them. youtube's terms of service says it's not for kids under the age of 13. in a statement, youtube says, quote, protecting kids and families has always been a top priority

the complaint thoroughly and evalua evaluate improvements. >> reporter: a bust in a robbery spree tied to as many as 60 break-ins across the city. amy hollyfield is live for us at sfpd headquarters. >> reporter: a lot of details to share, but, first, we get straight to the surveillance video of startled burglars trying to escape. watch this video. the san francisco homeowner, you see her opening the garage door, and the burglars inside her home were clearly not expecting her trying to figure out how to slip out. police did not say what neighborhood this is in, but they did say they arrested one of the people that you do see in this video. notice they had a car parked right in front of the home. this was in the daytime when they say most of the burglaries happened, and most of the cars have tinted windows and paper plates. we have a look at who they arrested. ten people so far, the ages range from 23-64. police say they were all very

organized, working together on the burglaries. many of them were arrested in multiple locations including brentwood and las vegas, and they are not finished looking for up to 20 more people. >> we have arrested ten. there are at least four more that are inmat for arrest, and the other 16 we'll continue to investigate to what level they were involved in. some we may not be able to make arrests on, even though we know they are involved, but we'll continue to investigate that as we further gain evidence. >> reporter: now here's a look at where this was happening in san francisco this winter. the bay view, taraville, and engleside districts, as many as 60 home burglaries. there's been a drop in burglaries since arrests have been made. here's a look at the stolen items that they have recovered. jewelry. guns. cash. they say valued at $3 million. police do think the chinese community was targeted because it was the lunar new year and a

time when cash and jewelry is prevalent in the home. during some of the arrests, some of the suspects put up a fight. there was some resistant, but no one was injured, nothing alarming, and no one was injured in any of the robberies. live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> that clear video is amazing. thank you so much. palo alto police arrest information how they arrested a man suspected of sexual assaulting a teenager at gunpoint. the 29-year-old was arrested yesterday in his home in richmond. the police say detectives found evidence linking him to the march 28th attack on a trail. the investigators say he's suspected of another attack earlier last month. >> there was another sexual assault that occurred on march 4th in the jurisdiction of the east bay police department in oakland, and investigators believe he's connected to that crime also. >> police say diaz could be

linked to other crimes as you heard. nip with information is asked to call police. in developing news, robert dahl, the man police say tried to kill two people in the bart station is scheduled for arraignment. he was muttering and yelling on a bart train and followed a brother and sister off the train and then started stabbing them near the fare gates according to the police. apparently, he did not know the two victims at all. officers say a good samaritan may have saved their lives. dalph faces 9:00 a.m. arraignment tomorrow in oakland on attempted murder charges. another suspected chemical weapons attack on civilians in syria brought a warning from president trump saying assad could pay a big price for the latest aggression. we are joined now live from washington with details on that. >> reporter: well, reggie, this morning, president trump spoke from the cabinet meeting calling that attack an atrocity. he says the u.s. will make a decision about any action in the

next 24-48 hours, and he says nothing is off the table. horrifying pictures, too graphic to show. women and children among the victims of a suspected chemical weapons attack in syria. young children and infants struggling to breathe, choking on a substance as medical workers rush to help. 40 people killed in the attack on the rebel held district of douma. >> we're talking about humanity. this is about humanity. it can't be allowed to happen. >> reporter: this attack comes over a year after a suspected seran gas attack prompted president trump to order military strikes on the military airfield as a warning to assad. it did not have a lasting effect. >> it was not intended to degrade the syria military, so they now crossed the line when the president said don't do it again. >> reporter: president trump

two of the challenges john bolton faces today taking over as president trump's new national security adviser. the national security council met this morning to discuss syria. bolton has a reputation for taking an aggressive stance in defending america overseas making cases for military strikes against north korea and iran to stop their nuclear programs. developing news, an autopsy scheduled for tomorrow on a body found saturday for a crash killing a family of five. a vacationing company saw the body saturday. it appears to be that of an african-american female, the age and identity undetermined. nearly two weeks ago, an suv went over a cliff and crashed. five bodies recovered. authorities say three children were missing. at least six different crashes motorcycles slowed the drive in the east bay. here's one in hayward, freemont,

with pg&e in the sierras. and i'm an arborist since the onset of the drought, more than 129 million trees have died in california. pg&e prunes and removes over a million trees every year to ensure that hazardous trees can't impact power lines. and since the onset of the drought we've doubled our efforts. i grew up in the forests out in this area and honestly it's heartbreaking to see all these trees dying. what guides me is ensuring that the public is going to be safer and that these forests can be sustained and enjoyed by the community in the future.

happening today, 500 members of the national guard deployed immediately along the southwest u.s.-mexico border to five sectors along the border. as many as 4,000 troops will be sent to the entire border over the next few months. last week, president trump said that he wants to send national guard members to the border to help fight illegal immigration and drug trafficking. governor brown has not yet made a decision on whether to deploy the guard. bill cosby's spokesman is

calling for increased security after this topless protester hopped a barricade today. sheriff deputies stopped the woman who had the words "cosby" and rapist" painted on her back. she's an actress who wa on the cosby show. the incident happened as cosby walked into a suburban courthouse for a sexual assault retrial. he's charged with drugging and molesting a woman in 2004. opening statements are expected to begin today. happening today, the deadline for property owners to clear away debris from the north bay wildfires applies to fire victims no sonoma county and santa rosa who opted out of the removal program. the county says getting rid of the debris is essential because it's hazardous. property owners who did not meet the deadline face penalties from the city and county. police warn residents about credit card fraud because of skimming. they received reports about people's numbers taken and used illegally in southern

smoothies... only from tums hi, there. we're taking another look at the bay area, another gorgeous picture, too. this one from the tower on to downtown san francisco where we're hazy today. you can see the high clouds taking thebly away from our sky, but it's still going to be warmer today, even with that dimmer sunshine. today, milder, thanks to a mostly cloudy sky, and chances of rain? spring seesaw. temperatures change 15-20 degrees in the next week or so. wi already at our average highs for the day. mid to upper 60s. here's the destination. upper 60s to 70 in half moon bay at 68, 70 in san francisco and richmond and in santa cruz and

71-76 in the bay and 76-80 degrees inland. we have two and a half, three hours of warming to go. it's not a day game, but a beautiful sight i wanted to show you at&t park where today the diamondbacks take on the giants. cooling down to about 59 degrees, but no winds and no fog to contend with. you can see a little bit of haze, but, still, there is the golden gate bridge off in the distance. look at this, 67-71. even the coast is getting a little warm today. you'll be at 67 at 4:00 and rest at 76-77 well above average. 58 at the coast. not bad. look at the temperatures today, inlands and around the bay, upper 60s, comfortable for plans this evening and 60 degrees by midnight. on the way to upper 40s in santa rosa, half moon bay and redwood city, everyone else at 50-54 degrees. a look at the plume of moisture, but no atmospheric river. two chunks of energy roll in

tuesday and wednesday. 9:00 tuesday morning, light showers and rain up in the north bay. by noon, it's trying to move into the bay. by the time we get through the afternoon hours, it's in the south bay, but is this one holding out? by the evening hours, it's gone. leaving wetness behind, but it's not raining during any commute. now, that will change wednesday. look at that. 4:00 in the morning. i should say -- in the afternoon and through the evening hours, a chance of heavier rain, but look at the rainfall totals, oh, they are just not impressive from .15 to .33 inches with the heavier rain with the wednesday event. here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. notice the temperatures by thursday. we're anywhere from about 15-20 degrees cooler than today. another warming trend is friday and saturday with a nice warm sunny day, but a dry cold front drops temperatures to average sunday, not bad in the upper 60s. >> i mentally delete monday

the company's already opened up a wait list for users looking to be notified when a jump bike is available in their city. u.s. airlines are getting better at many things expect getting you to your destination on time. a new probation report from the transportation department says airlines were about 80% on time last year. that's actually a tiny bit worse than 2016. airlines are losing fewer bags. they are bumping fewer passengers. overall complaints are down. when you look at the whole report, it says alaska and delta came in with the best scores, spirit and frontier with the worst. don't move, a sneak peek at the traveling the world to meet her family. >> whoa. that would be weird. >> next "right this minute."
