some time now. now mark zuckerberg will answer to lawmakers this morning. last night a forum was held called how do we know what's true anymore. one of the pammists was a representative from facebook. we talked to users who had mixed feelings about data scandal. >> when i first started seeing these quizzes. i got a funny feeling that was awfully personal information to find out trying to find what animal i was. >> you can't really plame facebook because you have instagram and snapchat. all these different social media platforms. so it's like you can't really just plame facebook itself. everyone should basically delete every account they have. >> it wasn't a third party quiz that led to the data harvest. zuckerberg is set to apologize. in prepared testimony he wrote, quote, we dependent take a broad enough view of our responsibility, an that was a big mistake. it was my mistake, and i'm sorry.

although i should note, reggie and natasha, some experts say it's nearly impossible for mark zuckerberg to take responsibility. this is such a huge corporation headquartered here in menlo mark. a lot of top executives that also need to take responsibility for exactly what happened. as for users, if you're watching this, and you may have been affected, you should notify -- be notified on your facebook feed. it will tell you if you were indeed part of that harvested information from cambridge analytica. there should be something on your feed today. reporting live from menlo park i'm jessica castro, abc 7 news. >> thank you. it's 5:04. san francisco police made arrests in attempted kidnapping of a 17-year-old girl in the mission. it happened 3:00 at at at at capp street. they approached the woman in her car. she complied when she saw one had a gun but was able to escape. a female and male suspect were

arrested. two hours later they approached a woman and damaged her into the car. she was also able to get away. police say the two incidents are not connected. google, youtube and employees are donating nearly $300,000 to fund an initiative aimed at first responders. this comes in the wake of last week's shooting at youtube. the money will go to the san bruno community foundation and will have three main projects. they include emergency shelter supplies, site assessments and police officers mindfulness compassion and resiliency training. >> san francisco attorney looking into legal action to of ect people on city sidewalks those electric scooters that suddenly appeared all over town. it is illegal to ride those scooters on sidewalks. mta working on legislation to regulate these two-wheelers. for now the agencies can't do anything because the scooters are not mentioned in any city ordinances. lime bike, bird own the scooters and lease them to people who unlock them with a mobile phone.

a major new boost to the north bay smart train. the federal government now earmarking $22 million to help pay for textension from san rafael to larkspur. they aim to have trains running on it by next year. the extension will make smart train more useful to commuters and tourists. cleanup on the way as crews try to make headway with mud and debris from the storm. it left much of the beach's parking lot damaged, unrecognizable. people can still get to the beach but have to navigate overflowg cre and a pig mess. >> just the amount o mud and rock and just natural material that has come out of the creek and into the parking lot is a rare event. >> it's crazy. i was just here in january for my mom's birthday. this entire parking lot is perfect. now it's so weird. it looks like a river.

>> she's talking about the north end of the parking lot that collapsed taking picnic tables right with it. the national park service said it has no estimate how long it will take for that lot to be repaired and reopen. national park crews cleaning up after weekend floods brought storms to the valley floor. it reached nearly 14 feet. 12 feet is enough to flood the roads. the park shut down friday afternoon for the safety of visitors. now that water levels are down, park employees are looking at all this damage. the park is fully opened as the cleanup continues. >> it's 5:07 now, finding beauty in destruction. a north bay art is is determined to give trees burned during firestorm a second life. in doing so he says he's healing himself and helping other survivors. katie has the story from santa ro rosa. >> there's potential. >> peter, resident artist at the

drove off a clip of bodega bay. a helicopter captured the scene. the vehicle plunged 100 feet. they found the woman and her dog alive on the beef. they were able to haul her up the side of the cliff. she's in critical condition. investigators said they found no evidence the crash was an accident. the second tile in two weeks chp believed a vehicle was intentionally driven off a cliff. the wreckage of an suv with a family of eight was found at the bottom of highway 1 on mendocino course of the investigators say that crash was intentional. this morning four ministers of germany and sweden calling on russia to use its influence to pressure syria to give up its chemical weapons. the call comes if the wake of gas attack on civilians, at least 40 people died. bashar al assad calls these pictures fabricated. president trump called those

a look at that weak cold front. you don't see many yellows and oranges. no. light showers. about 100 miles away right now. plus the whole thing is moving more north than it is east. here is the timeframe. 9:00 it finally starts to move in to the north bay. notice how thin this line is. it's only maybe 35 to 50 miles wide. by noon through 4:00, it moves through the heart of the bay from 3:00 to 6:00, moves through south bay and east bay. that's it. overnight partly cloudy skies, cooler. as we head to tomorrow better chance. yellows and oranges showing up north bay at 4:00 in the afternoon, heart of the bay at 7:00 in the afternoon, exiting by 9:00 and left over showers duri overnight hours. wake up thursday, most of us partly cloudy skies and cooler. tomorrow morning slight chance of showers across lake, mendocino, naacp and sonopa and thursday. cooler sunday and monday. what do you have, sue.

take a look at san jose, highway 87 past sap center headed to 101. you are moving at the limit. not bad at all both directions of 87 as a matter of fact. checking on the bay bridge looks like metering lights turned on as cars back up towards the mcarthur maze. carpoolers going by, no problems there. fortunately no problems on the span this morning knock on wood we will keep our eye on that. looking at a 33-minute drive from highway 4 hercules all the way into san francisco. that is very moderate, not bad at all. >> thank you, sue. a threat called into 50 bay area school districts has some administrators beefing up security this morning. >> it appears the e-mail sent to schools was a hockax. it left in the position of threat assessment hours before it starts. amy hollyfield live in dublin this morning. amy. >> reporter: hi, natasha, dublin one of 30 in dublin county that

received the hoax. that's just one county in bay area. they will be having school here today. emeryville will have police officers on hand this morning when they have classes starting up this morning. they want everyone to feel safe. they will be reopening. they were shut down yesterday. emeryville saw the e-mails sunday night before it was determined to be a hoax, so it was decided to go ahead and cancel classes monday just to be safe. parents we talked to said they understood the decision. >> it's sad but you have to be vigilant. the one time you decide not to close school down, it can happen. you have to keep your kids safe. >> here is the map to show you how widespread the hoax was around the bay area. schools from sonoma down to south san francisco all received it. police have decided it was not credible, that it was an online challenge to try and get schools canceled. bay area schools say they will be open to date.

>> they broke into the office of one of my personal attorneys. good man. it's a disgraceful situation, a witch hunt. a man facing arraignment. police say he stabbed two passengers at the b.a.r.t. station saturday night. police say the attack was unprovoked. a good samaritan stepped in. he suffered cuts to his hands trying to subdue him. a woman in 60s is out of the hospital but her brother is in critical condition. harris said he didn't hesitate to put his safety at risk. >> i didn't. i just reacted. i ran over. by the time i got they she dropped to the floor. >> harris says he knows how it feels to be the vict of crime. he said he was attacked and stabbed in his 30s. at that time no one came to help. new details concerning a redevelopment project at san francisco's hunter points shipyard. epa found more falsified soil tests from two lots slated for housing. this according to examiner. in february the u.s. navy

admitted its contractor tetra tech did not clean up radioactive waste like it promised. now we know 97% of soil samples taken from one lotd raiseconcns the epa ys nearly all so samples need retesting. developers wanted to build 12,000 housing units at the shipyard. those plans on hold for the next year. >> this morning mayor sam liccardo of san jose is questioning why half of the city council and staff are visiting japan on the taxpayers' dime. it celebrates the anniversary of the sister relationship with okayama. liccardo circulating a memo, which according to mercury news questions the necessity of 34 people going on the trip, 20 of them paid for by the city. in the future the mayor said he would like to see a single member of the council represent san jose on visits like this. metropolitan transportation commission moving ahead with a plan to study a new bridge or tunnel across san francisco bay. it's gotten support of dianne feinstein.

and east bay congressman. they say the so-called southern crossing is badly needed to relief congestion on the bay bridge. this is a map showing what one day could be reality. one proposal calls for new bridge 880 and san leandro and 380 on the peninsula. happening today, a debate about where legal marijuana should be grown in sonoma county. the board of supervisors will discuss rewriting rules for where cannabis can be grown. this comes after some people complain about cannabis cultivation near their homes. they want it shifted out of neighborhoods and into agricultural areas. the board will recommend potential changes for consideration at today's meeting. a teacher's successful legal fight will affect how women across california are paid. eileen sued the department of education after learning she was being paid less than her co-worker. the county claimed it was based on her prior salary. a federal court ruled employers cannot pay women less than men for the same work, based on this previous salaries.
