it's round two. facebook versus the nation's lawmakers. ceo mark zuckerberg is answering question after question for the last four hours. live look at that hearing. thank you for joining us here on abc7 news midday. i'm jessica castro. this is zuckerberg's second day of testimony. he's now before the house energy and commerce committee facing many of the same questions he did yesterday and here's a live look. he's answering questions about alleged russian election interference and the cambridge analytica breach. he's apologized saying facebook didn't take a broad enough view of its responsibilities.

late-breaking details. good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning, jessica. that's right speaker paul ryan sent a jolt through washington announcing that he was retiring. he said he wants to spend more time with his family but many other republicans are saying we need him now before this tough election. in a surprise announcement, speaker paul ryan said he's done with congress. >> this year will be my last one as a member of the house. >> reporter: this ahead of a tough midterm election that could have landed him the title minority leader. he'll retire in january. analysts say the wisconsin congressional seat isn't necessarily safe for republicans. reminding that he never sought the title that placed him third in line to the president. >> thank you, nancy. you all know i didn't seek this job. i took it reluctantlctantlctancy no regrets whatsoever for having accepted this responsibility. >> reporter: trump tweeting he's a good man and will leave a

wandering in a confused state. this is the near that nursing and emt students faced at the community college in an emergency drill this morning. >> no. >> reporter: the students eventually jumped into action. although one supervisor thought they were a bit too slow and cautious at first. >> looked like a bunch of terrified faces but that's what we want, right? in real life that's what's going to happen and they're going to understand that timing is everything. as fast as we can get out to a scene it's a good thing. >> reporter: this is the third and largest drill they have done here at the college with more victims this time. and fewer resources. >> i'm stressed right now. it's kind of like where does everybody go? so many patients being transported at the moment. >> reporter: not only discover the victims and move them, the drill continued in a set-up hospital emergency room and

giggles as they hammed up the parts and say it doesn't mean they're not focused. >> this is exactly what we need to train us for the real world and this is a great opportunity for us. >> reporter: about 100 students participated today. this is the third one they have done and they say other colleges are starting to pay attention and inquiries of other colleges how to conduct their own drills. reporting live, amy hollyfield. >> thank you. new this morning, a man was killed in a crash in san jose. officials say just before 1:30 this morning, the driver of a stolen car lost control as it crossed the creek overpass. the car slid into the eastbound lanes, hit a curb, flipped down the embankment and burst into flames. and the driver of that car was killed. two juvenile passengers also have life threatening injuries. >> so there were witnesses that did help the two passengers get out of the vehicle when it was engulfed in flames. unfortunately, they were not

able to extract the driver out at that time. so there were some good samaritans that did assist the passengers in this case. >> no word yet on what caused the driver to lose control. today a search is continuing where the highway patrol fears a southern california family of four may have crashed into the eel river. officials say the family has not been seen for a week. they were road tripping from portland to san jose when they disappeared. their neighbors gathered for a prayer vigil in front of the family's home yesterday. >> great family. the kids, we don't have kids here. the kids are always out riding their bikes and playing and always friendly. >> a witness reported seeing a maroon vehicle driving off an embankment and the chp may have found parts belonging to the family's suv. we have new details this morning about a double stabbing at an east bay bart station. the suspect is a convicted felon

charged with attempted murder. robert dolph was charged. police say he stabbed two people saturday night and has two prior drug convictions. the victims in the case were a brother and sister. the brother is said to be a man in the 50s who remains in critical condition. his sister is out of the hospital. sacramento police plan to release more video of the stephon clark police shooting. the announcement came from the chief in a special meeting last night. the brother of stephon clark was seen speaking with the chief in the meeting and shaking hands with the city's mayor. police say they have a 30-day deadline from the time of the shooting to release all remaining video and audio recordings. happening today, former 49er and raider alden smith due in court after the third arrest in two months and booked in jail on friday for violating a condition of his electronic monitoring while on bail.

he has pleaded not guilty to domestic violence and other charges. there's a significant step forward in the effort to build a new ballpark for the oakland a's. alameda county is ready to sell its share to the city of oakland. the county says since the city controls how the land is used t it's best to sell the portion and then negotiate a sale to the a's easier. new at 11:00, it's still 271 days away and learning about the events of the college football national championship game to be held at levi stadium. the game is expected to provide a significant economic impact to the bay area. one of the main events outside the game is playoff fan central which will be held at the san jose convention center. >> come, play, have fun, eat. listen to the music.

welcome back. this morning, algeria, still no mention of what may have caused a horrific plane crash that killed 257 people. witnesses say they saw flames coming from the wing of the soviet-made military transport plane before going down. the plane crashed in the northern part of the nation. soldiers and family me believes are said to have been on the aircraft. authorities say it was on the way to the moroccan border with hundreds of refugee camps. this morning, president trump is taunting russia tweeting that moscow should get ready for the u.s. missile striking syria in response to an alleged gas attack. the tweet comes after russia said it would shoot down any american missiles in syria. russia has been syrian president bashir al assad's biggest and most reliable ally and the

president did something he vowed never to do, announcing the military plan to the world. new details of the fbi raids on the office, home and hotel room of the president's personal lawyer michael cohen. he says the fbi did not storm into his room and instead agents simply knocked on the door. he says they were courteous and respectful and they seized phones and financial documents. cohen is under investigation for possible bank and wire fraud. investigators are also focusing on a $130,000 payment cohen made to stormy daniels. daniels is adult film star who claims to have had an affair with president trump. one of the world's biggest pop stars is coming clean. the real reason mariah carey say that is she's been living in isolation. before you grab that umbrella grab a coat. temperatures cooler before the rain arrives and the slide started yesterday. today about four to eight

12:45 first pitch. dress for temperatures 57. warming up to 59 degrees. all right. out and about, san jose is one of the last areas to get the rain and by the time it get there is it could have thund enand lightning in it. rain in the north bay at 4:00. about 58 to 61. about the same. 52 to 55 with just about all of us receiving rain by 8:00 and then starts to clear out. by midnight, maybe a few sthohos out there. tomorrow morning pretty quiet and maybe a stray shower in the coast. temperatures cooler than this morning with upper 30s in the north bay and inland east bay. the deeper valleys low to mid-40s and then mid to upper 40s around the bay and the coast. here we are from noon to 4:00. just clouds getting thicker. you can see light rain green. moderate rain in yellow moving to the north bay and by 7:00 already down to the dunbarton

bridge and then heavier in the north bay and central bay. to 10:00 turning over already to scattered showers and slight chance of a thunderstorm and snow down to around 4,000 feet in the north bay. notice the green dots are near the coast tomorrow morning and the north bay and that will continue through about 4:00. and then, that's it for this particular system. so let's see where the rain is during the evening commute. by 7:00 you can see it's all the way down to the san mateo bridge and then everybody else gets it in the overnight hours. a tenth to possibly .4 of an inch from the north bay to south bay. the winds pushing you to the east and then pick up around 2:00 getting up to around the 30 to 40-mile-per-hour threshold and stay 20 to 25 tomorrow and then usher in the coolest day temperatures in the mid-50s to low 60s. once that passes the sun comes out and the winds calm down and we see some 70s friday inland.

nearly 80 there and the rest of us in the mid to upper 60s and then a light system on the storm impact scale. it is a one with even less rain than what we're getting out of this system. >> we have been kind of in a nice pattern. little bit of rain and 70s. >> it's a typical spring seesaw. rain and cold and sun comes out and hot again. >> mike, thank you. >> you bet. okay. there are thousands of clips online of parents punishing kids and now sparking debate of tactics. for instance, there's this video of a 10-year-old running a mile to school in the rain followed by his father in the car and the punishment was for being suspended from school for misbehaving on the school bus and then another shows a 13-year-old shopping at goodwill because his mom said he was developing a sense of entitlement. >> feeling like he's better than the other kids at school because he gets name brand things and just making, like, snarky, rude

remarks. >> both parents in the cases say that those posts online were not part of the punishment. they weren't made to humiliate their kids and that is leading many to ask why post them in the first place and questioning whether sharing the moments online can hurt a child's self esteem. mariah carey says she is not living in isolation after she's seeking treatment for a bipolar disorder. the disorder involves periods of depression, hype mania and the singer says she didn't believe it in 2001. the 48 yeerd says she lived in denial and isolation fearing someone would expose her. carey is currently in therapy and taking medication. my colleague reggie spoke to the star of one of abc's hottest shows. here's zach's metta explanation of how
