and a community in ohio wants answers after the death of a teenager in the parking lot of his school. >> he was crushed in his car, frantically calling 911 for help. >> on tuesday afternoon, he called 911, panicked, gasping for air, saying he was trapped inside his car in the school parking lot. he said i probably don't have much time left. he said tell my mom i love her if i die. >> we need police and fire to start toward seven hills school at 5400 red bank. >> reporter: police were dispatched, arriving within ten minutes but found nothing. they suspected it might have been a prank. at some point, plush called again, saying this is not a joke. i am trapped inside a gold odyssey van. send officers immediately. i'm almost dead. sheriff's officers responded.

for six hours, no one could find plush. finally at 9:00 p.m., six hours after the 911 call, a family member found him dead inside the car. >> something has gone terribly wrong. >> reporter: the dispatcher did not relay to officers critical information plush provided. >> i'm not certain at this point if we're talking about an equipment malfunction or some type of other user error possibly. but we're going to do an investigation to get those answers. >> reporter: that dispatcher now suspended. so what went wrong inside the car? cincinnati.com created this animation. it is believed plush was leaving over the folding third row bench seat grabbing tennis greer when it flipped and pinned him upside down. in a letter to parents, the school remembered him as a young man of keen intelligence, good humor and great courage.

national security team, the white house declared there's been no decision yet on military action in syria the president said the decision would be coming fairly soon. >> we'll see what happens, folks. we'll see what happens. it's too bad that the world puts us in a position like that. >> reporter: it's a starkly different tone from the president, just 24 hours earlier, he made it sound like an attack on syria was about to happen, tweeting a warning about u.s. missiles to syria's most important ally. get ready, russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and smart. that tweet was widely criticized as directly contradicting the president's repeated insistence that a military strike must be kept secret until it happens. >> militarily, i don't like to say where i'm going and what i'm doing. whatever happened to the element of surprise? >> reporter: the president clarified. he never said when an attack on syria would take place. could be very soon or not so soon at all.

and that was defense secretary mattis' message to congress. but with his national security team focussed on syria, our cameras spotted another guest leaving the white house, deputy attorney general rod rosenstein who oversees the special counsel investigation. turns out he met with president trump too. the white house called it a routine meeting. but rosenstein is increasingly under fire from the president and his allies. former chief white house strategist steve bannon and other trump supporters are leading a public campaign to get rosenstein fired. >> should he fire rosenstein? >> i would fire rosenstein in a new york minute, without any question. >> reporter: there's no doubt the national security team is gearing up for action on syria. the white house says no decision has been made. they continue to assess intelligence and coordinate with america's allies.
