north county driving a honda suv to visit a relative in san jose. it was raining heavily near the town of leggett when they tried to pull into a turnout. >> it was soft there was grass and mud where they went over. >> it was a 150 foot drop to the river below. searchers have gone 12 miles up and down the river and 60 miles by helicopter and found very few clues. >> this river at the flood stage is unforgiving. the search and rescue people on the first day estimated the slowest part of the river moving at 14 miles an hour. >> that was fast enough to move the vehicle to an unknown pot. but chp and the sheriff's office says they will keep searching as long as they have the resources. any say it's the least they can do for the surviving relatives. >> they're a loving, happy family, close-knit in communication at all times actually traveling to visit family in san jose. >> reporter: a trip that will never be completed. eric thomas, abc 7 news.

investigators hoped to determine in the next few day processes the body they recovered today is that of mrs. thoughts a pilly. meanwhile they search for the family's vehicle which is believed to still be under water. and a disturbing update this afternoon on the case of a family of 8 presumed dead after the van drove off a cliff in mendocino county. the chp revealed today that the driver jennifer hart was drunk with a blool level of.102. investigators also revealed her wife and two of their adopted children had taken a significant amount of an ingredient commonly found in ben drill. which can make people sleepy. officials also say it looks like n one in the van was wearing seatbelts. and that this was a deliberate act. the bodies of three other children still not recovered. tesla ceo elon musk is defending his decision to release information on the accident that killed a bay area man. the story is being closely followed by the abc 7 news

199,000. but still more than double the available slots. the trump administration wants to crackdown and fraud and make sure recipients are doing the jobs they were hired for. new at 4:00 now, san francisco crackdown today on the new electric scooters popping up all over town, maybe you've seen them. city officials tell abc 7 news public works seized 66 of the scooters blocking sidewalks. if you're not familiar with the scooters riders use the smartphones to gain access to the shared scooters. but the arrival sparked a slough of complaints about unsafe operation and riders dumping them on sidewalks when they're finished being used. but that's the business model. people drop them off and pick them up that's the point. the city says the company has to pay up to get the scooters back. >> the prices is about $125 that cost is for -- for us picking them up. and administrative fee. the department will keep them for 90 days and after that we will get rid of them.
