this is abc 7 news. and good morning everyone. i'm carolyn tyler. thanks for joining us on this sunday, april 15th. let's start with a quick look at the weather with our meteorologist lisa argen. >> good morning, carolyn. i told you it wasn't going to last. clouds are moving in and rain arriving. here's a look at live doppler 7. you can see the clouds out there. 6:35 is the sunrise. and rain well to the north. the bulk of the day will be dry. san francisco, oakland, a 1 on the storm impact scale. afternoon showers less than a half inch, maybe .1 to .2 inch.. a live look, you can see the clouds. 7:00 through the noon hour, we're mainly dry. maybe a renegade shower in the north bay. then the rain moves in 2:00

north and spreading south throughout the bay area. colder air behind it. we'll talk about some thunderstorm potential for tomorrow coming up. carolyn? >> thank you, lisa. the united states, france and great britain are pushing an end to end syria's chemical weapons program. the move comes following missile strikes as syria was suspected of using chemical weapons. molly hunter has new pictures of the sites that were targeted. >> new satellite images released showing the before and after of the target. >> the government research facility near damascus. this storage facility and the chemical weapons bunker. >> the pentagon releasing this video, a u.s. missile emerging from the water blasting into the sky. at a brief yesterday, the pentagon claimed success. >> we're confident we've significantly degraded his ability to ever use chemical weapons again.

>> but it's not clear that the material used in the douk a attack specifically came from one of these facilities. u.s. officials without with a five-page report concluding that the government used chlorine and sarin in douma. the french putting out a report pointing the finger at >> all nato allies expressed a full support for last night's actions, which was intended to degrade the syrian regime's chemical weapons capability. >> and administration officials in d.c. and new york made clear that the u.s., u.k. and france all agree this is the start of a sustained effort. >> the syrian regime uses this poisonous gas again, the united states is locked and loaded. >> president trump has now spoken with british prime minister theresa may and emanuel macron, the french president,

about how they will collectively react going forward. molly hunter, abc news. london. anti-war demonstrators gathered to speak out against the missile strikes in syria. news reporter lisa amin gulezian has more. >> reporter: dozens gathered on market street to take a unified public stand. against u.s. military involvement in syria. >> the u.s. has no right to attack syria, a sovereign nation. we want to stop the bombing. >> friday night the united states and its allies launched more than 100 missiles at three chemical weapons storage and research sites, retaliation after a suspected chemical attack on civilians a week ago. >> why we would actually send these huge missiles into a country that's suffering. it hurts me inside this is what my country does.

>> meantime, maya listened to a voice mail message from her cousin soon after the bombs landed in syria. though all of her relatives are safe, she admits they all want more action from the u.s. >> it's not enough. it's not sufficient. it's not going to make an impact on the ground. people will feel empty. >> according to a senior fellow at the hoover institution, more missiles could launch in a matter of weeks. >> it's not a one and done. because i think there's a distinct possibility that united states will repeat it. the idea was a good idea. i do think it was a good idea. >> currently, there are 2,000 u.s. troops stationed in syria. lisa amin gulezian, abc 7 news. happening today with tax day just about here, democrats remain focused on the tax plan recently passed by congress. leaders have been touring the country, pointing out the impact the plan is going to have on middle class families.

congresswoman, nancy pelosi has been hosting halls highlighting who is benefiting and who is seeing their taxes rise. the tour wraps up this afternoon in san francisco. pelosi will be among the featured speakers at the san francisco labor council. developing news now, the chp is searching for clues after someone fired shots near where an officer made a traffic stop in richmond. it happened last night around 7:00 on eastbound interstate 580 near central avenue. the chp does not believe the officer was targeted. one woman heard the shots and saw what happened next. >> suddenly, i heard a noise. at least 20 shots and then happened to be there was one police car parked there with another truck and then i saw the police jump into his car and chasing down the road. >> this could be where it ended

up. abc 7 news was in berkeley after police received calls about a car with several bullet holes. officers found the car at mable and haskell streets and are trying to see if it is linked to that shooting in richmond. abc 7 news was in downtown walnut creek when a fire broke out inside a restaurant called sauce, barbecue and spirits. flames started just after 6:00 and firefighters kept them from spreading to nearby businesses along locust street. fire officials say it was likely an accident caused by a malfunctioning light fixture. bay area college and high school students along with other activists for gun control gathered outside the palace protesting one of the country's biggest gun shows. abc 7 news was in daly city where a small group of demonstrators showed up at the crossroads of the west gun show. the group is calling for stronger gun control laws. >> not saying i'm against guns. i'm saying i'm against gun

violence and i want to do everything i can and i want legislation to do everything they can to ensure that guns are distributed in a way which is considering the safety of the american public as their first and primary concern. >> one gun show attendee said he did not have a problem with people pushing for stronger gun control but believes current background checks are enough. starbucks is apologizing after accusations of racial discrimination. bob brooks from our sister station in philadelphia shows us the video that's gone viral. >> it was early thursday afternoon. cell phone video captures the moment two men sitting inside the starbucks on 18th and spruce were asked to leave. the reason why? that depends on who you ask. the manager at starbucks called the police, saying that the two men were trespassing because they had not purchased anything. >> what did they do? what did they do? tell me what they did. >> they didn't do anything. i saw the entire thing. >> when they didn't leave, they were arrested and jailed. you can hear patrons inside are

as puzzled as the two men who spoke with their attorney, lauren wimmer. she says her clients were waiting for a third person to conduct a business meeting. >> thousands of people do it every single day across the country. starbucks cultivated this community where you can meet there whether you enjoy coffee or not. >> she also believes they were targeted because they were black. >> in the end, this is a case about race and in the age of social media, companies will have to be held accountable for discriminatory practices. >> wimmer says her clients were released by 2:00 a.m. friday morning from jail. the story started to go viral and philadelphia police commissioner richards-ross weighed in. >> according to employees, they had seen the two males come in, they sat down and after being seated, they decided that they needed to use the restroom. starbucks said that, according to their company policy, they do not allow nonpaying members or nonpaying people of the public

to come in and use the restroom. >> he also says when the officers arrived, the two men were asked several times to leave but didn't. and he says that's when they were justly arrested. >> these officers did absolutely nothing wrong. they followed policy. they did what they were supposed to do. >> starbucks says it's investigating the incident and sent out an apology. we apologize to the two individuals and our customers and are disappointed this led to an arrest. >> that was bob brooks reporting. that video was posted to twitter. perhaps you've seen it. it has more than 2 million views now. it has also prompted an internal investigation within the philadelphia police department. well, back to average i guess is what you would say. >> that's right. we had some above average weather yesterday. a lot of sunshine. numbers coming down today. but we will be going below average when a cold front sweeps through the bay area.

a russian-built rocket blasted off last night carrying a saturdellite from the u.s. ai force along with another spacecraft conducting multiple experiments. it will help upgrade global communications. a lost piece of bay area history unearthed at a flea market and shown for the first time this weekend to the public. the rare footage much san francisco following the 1906 earthquake will end up in the library of congress. abc 7 news reporter katie utehs shows it to you first. >> i knew this was going to be special. >> reporter: david keen threads the projector.

>> this is the way they done it since the 1890s really. >> reporter: he restores the films. the edison theater in niles is a historic gem in and of itself. built in 1913. charlie chaplin used to watch movies here. this premiere is of a film nearly lost to history. >> this is, he know, the missing niles brother's film. it's been missing for 100 years. until now, we've not known where >> the niles brother shot trip down market street in the days before the earthquake and fire. >> they shot almost two hours of film after the earthquake and very little of it survives. this is one of the longest surviving pieces. >> reporter: the lost footage was discovered last year at the alameda flea market in fragile condition. >> i set up a digital camera that would take a single frame for each frame of the film.

so 8,655 frames of film later, i was able to put it on the computer. >> descendants of the brothers are seeing a public debut. >> it's blowing my mind. this whole part of my family history that i grew up not knowing about. >> it's like a book end to the trip down market street. >> it will be converted back to film so it will last another 100 years. >> it's scary to think there's something out there that we almost missed. makes you wonder, what else is out there? >> after being shown in june, it will be posted online for everyone to see. >> it really is priceless. >> in niles, katie utehs, abc 7 news. veterans and gold star families unveiled a new monument to honor america's fallen warriors in san jose. abc 7 news was at oak hill

memorial park for the ceremony honoring the parents, the gold star moms and dads as well. they are the ones who have lost children defending our country. one of the speakers lost his son who served in iraq. >> we always want our family to be remembered and always want our children to make a difference in this world. i'm more than confident adam did through his service and through the wonderful stories of his fellow servicemen. >> god bless america ♪ >> the park provided the space for the monument and santa clara county paid for part of the building costs. the los angeles police department has confiscated $700,000 worth of counterfeit makeup that tested positive for human waste. they raided 21 businesses in the fashion district in l.a. following customer complaints of makeup causing skin problems. police posted photos of the bust on twitter. quoting the best price is not

always the best deal. some of the seized fakes included mack, urban decay and others. some were had trademark violations. today is day three of the first weekend of the coachella valley music and arts festival. at least a dozen people are missing out because of an online ticket scam. one of the victims from san francisco says she bought opening weekend tickets for $700 frchlt hdttixx. she got an information e-mail to pick them up in indio. at fantasy resort springs casino. >> there are a couple of people out there and they looked really confused. there wasn't anyone who had our tickets. they said that the man who had our tickets checked out yesterday. and that he was gone. >> that htdtixx is no longer replying to e-mails. nobody picks up the customer service line. at least three deaths are

being blamed on a storm that hit several states with heavy rain. even snow. you can see the conditions drivers faced near minneapolis. 50 mile per hour winds made visibility worse by blowing snow all over roads around the great lakes. while snow fell across the upper midwest, hail fell on texas. at least one tornado hit arkansas. thousands of people lost power because of the storm system. >> now your accuweather forecast with lisa argen. good morning. sunday. a lot of cloud cover here. temperatures down to near typical readings. live doppler 7 showing you what's on the way. it's a cold front with colder air associated with it for tomorrow. it could bring isolated thunderstorms. today, this slides down into the bay area. right now, a live look outside from mt. tam. you can see the increasing clouds and a bit of sun out there. rain should move in before 3:00 here. 51 in san francisco. 53 in oakland and san jose.

43 in half moon bay. 48 in gilroy. from the exploratorium camera, san francisco, it will be afternoon when you get wet and the south bay by the evening hours. 42 up in the north bay with 45 in napa. 54 in concord. livermore at 50 degrees. so the winds, 20 to 30 miles an hour in the upper elevations. right now, not bad out there. anywhere from 2 to 5 degrees warmer. we had all that warmth yesterday well into the upper 70s from concord to the san jose airport. today, we should see highs anywhere between the low 60s to upper 60s, which is about normal. so from suit rsutro, it looks cooler out there with rain developing. isolated thunderstorms tomorrow and the cold sector of the system and looking at the sunny and mildest weather. in fact, pretty warm as we end the week. it's a 1 on the storm impact scale for today with afternoon showers. rainfall amounts less than a half inch. the winds gusting up to 30 miles an hour and it's also going to

bring sierra snow. today, at 2:00, we should be getting wet in santa rosa. point reyes. some of the heavier rain in the north bay. as the system slips to the south, the heavy rain will be confined to where it fell in the north. lighter rains from vallejo, san francisco, half moon bay and scattered showers by 6:00 in the south bay. tomorrow, we will see an increase of shower coverage even the colder air with the isolated thunderstorm could see the downpours and some hail. snow levels down to 3,000 feet. here we go again. we've had several system like this over the winter time. we add up the rainfall from sunday into monday, could be a third of an inch in oakland, a quarter of an inch from san francisco to -- ben low man, winter weather advisory for the tahoe area. 3 to 6 inches of snow. upwards of a foot above 7,000 feet. you can see the snowfall amounts

more than 53,000 members asking them to rate their most recent economy flight experiences. >> one of the things that stood out is how satisfied people are with the service that they receive by the airlines. >> there were note alex sepgss. discount carriers, spirit and frontier received low marks across the board, including flight status updates, wi-fi connectivity and food selection. rising to the top, southwest, alaska, jetblue, virgin america and hawaiian led the way with economy flights. >> southwest really stood out, especially for their price transparency. they were the only one that received such high marks in terms of just how well they explain all of the fees that get added on to passengers' tickets when booking. >> all 11 of the airlines receive low marks for seat

welcome back everyone. we're starting this half hour with a look at the weather with our meteorologist lisa argen. carolyn, good morning to you. it's certainly a great start for most of you. but a dry one. we'll be looking at rain arriving later on this afternoon. you can see from this vantage point, looks dark in san francisco. but it is mild around the bay. 51 downtown. 52 in mountain view. 43 on the coast. from the golden gate bridge, look at that. not as much cloud cover. the winds still light there.

mid-40s novato and 50 in livermore. concord, 54. a 1 on the storm impact scale today. it's a cold front that will slide south of the bay area by this afternoon. by 10:00 in the morning, in the upper 50s with clouds in the north bay. 2:00, the rain starts in santa rosa. 54 degrees. the 60s where we have a little more sun. by 7:00, the front is pushing through the south bay. the santa cruz mountains and we'll be looking at pockets of dry air but also colder air and thunderstorm potential arriving tomorrow. i'll time it out for you in a few minutes. carolyn? lisa, thank you. this morning, we have a new excerpt from abc's tell-all interview with former fbi director james comey. he reveals why he made one of the most controversial decisions of his career. going public with the reopened investigation into hillary clinton just days before the election. here's abc news reporter david wright. >> it was the october surprise

win. >> i don't remember spelling it out. but it had to have been that she's going to be elected president and if i hide this from the american people, she'll be illegitimate the moment she's elected. >> it took guts for director comey to make the move that he made. >> now, president trump calls comey a weak and untruthful slime ball. quote, his handling of the crooked hillary clinton case and the events surrounding it will go down as one of the worst botched jobs of history. >> comey will be forever known as a disgraced partisan hack that broke his sacred trust with the president of the united states. >> but comey tells george, he's not sure what other choice he had. >> as i say in the book, i think i did it the way that it should have been done. i'm not certain of that. other people might have had a different view. i pray to god no future fbi director ever has to find out. >> david wright, abc news, washington.

investigation for months. attorneys for both the president and cohen in federal court on friday fighting to keep seized documents and recording swept up in an fbi raid this week out of prosecutors' hands. the lawyers arguing attorney-client privilege. >> why do you think they raided your office and the hotel room? >> federal investigators looking into possible secret deals that he made to protect then candidate donald trump in 2016. including the $130,000 paid to adult film star stormy daniels. just before the election to keep quiet about the alleged affair with trump. sources say the president is angrier than ever. then the probe by special counsel robert mueller. the president even called cohen friday to check in. the judge is now ordering cohen's attorneys to hand over a list of clients to help determine what's privileged and what's not. that judge appeared to be frustrated cohen wasn't in court. she ordered that he be there monday before she decides

on the coast, in the 40s. 47 in gilroy. outside our doors here, you can see the filtered sun. numbers in the 40s. 50 in livermore and fairfield. 54 in concord. the winds have kicked up in the upper elevations already. then with the passage of the cold front, the southwesterly winds accompany it later on today getting breezy. we'll look for the winds also to be with us tomorrow. and that sector of cold air with isolated thunderstorms, the low snow levels, maybe heavy downpours and then sunny and warmer by the end of the week. our storm impact scale with us for two days this week. it's a 1 today with the afternoon showers. most likely .1 to .2 inches. perhaps up to a half inch in the wettest locations with the breezy winds. here's the timeline. sunday morning, we're dry. sunday afternoon, 2:00 the rain is falling from sonoma to marin. after 2:00, it pushes through san francisco. the east bay. the east bay valleys later in the afternoon and the evening hours in the south bay.

happening today, cars are being banned in one san francisco neighborhood. it's just a temporary thing. sunday streets will take over the bay view dog patch neighborhood. that means third street from 22nd street to carroll avenue is going to be car-free and filled with family entertainment instead. there will be live music as well as interactive art activities and zumba classes. there will be a q and a session with mayoral candidate mark leno. it runs from 11:00 this morning until 4:00 this afternoon. they won't have to worry about rain, right? >> well, before 3:00. we're going to have the dry conditions. after that, the rain moves in. we're already looking at the clouds. so your forecast today calls for the rain developing in the north bay before 3:00, about 1:00, 2:00, 60 in richmond, 63 in palo alto. breezy along the coast. a 1 on the storm impact scale for the afternoon showers.
