a stunning comeback. ♪ for carrie underwood at the acm awards. and a stunning setback for lebron james. his streak snapped. good monday morning, everyone. we begin with former fbi director james comey speaking out about president trump calling him morally unfit for office. >> in his first interview since getting fired, comey suggested the possibility the russians may have dirt on the president of the united states. these two particular exchanges getting a lot of attention this morning. >> you write that president trump is unethical, untethered to the truth. is donald trump unfit to be president? >> yes, but not in the way i often hear people talk about it. i don't buy this stuff about him being mentally incompetent or early stages of dementia. he strikes me as a person of above average intelligence who

out over twitter. slippery james comey, a man who always ends up badly and out of whack will go down as the worst fbi director in history by far. comey also shared how torn he was about informing congress he re-opened the hillary clinton e-mail investigation just 11 days before the 2016 election. clinton argues that move cost her the white house. but comey says he had no choice. >> if you knew that letter would elect donald trump, you'd still send it? >> i would. if i ever start considering whose political fortunes will be affected by a decision, we're done. we're just another player in the tribal battle. >> reporter: and the reaction is already pouring in. the chairwoman of the republican national committee says comey has, quote, no credibility and she adds that he would, quote, say anything to sell a book. she also says that president trump was right to fire comey. diane and kendis, stay tuned on twitter for any possible reaction from the president this morning. >> from the tweet desk, indeed.

all right, arlette saenz, thank you. president trump's personal attorney michael cohen is due in court today one week after the fbi raided his home and office. cohen has been ordered to answer questions about his legal practice and stormy daniels, the porn star he paid to keep quiet about an alleged affair with the president is also expected to b the porn star he paid to keep quiet about an alleged affair with the president is also expected to be in the courtroom. overnight the president's legal team asked a judge to allow them to review the evidence seized in the raid before the government gets a chance to see it. they made that request citing attorney/client privilege. meanwhile, a new report claims cohen orchestrated the killing of a tabloid story about the president's son five years ago. "the wall street journal" reports cohen got "us weekly" to pull a story about donald trump jr.'s alleged affair with aubrey o'day. o'day was a former contestant on "celebrity apprentice." the former first lady, barbara bush is said to be in failing health this morning and has decided not to to seek additional medical treatment. the 92-year-old has been battling heart failure and lung disease. abc's marcus moore is in houston

of homes and businesses and thousands are also without power. that same storm system produced blizzard conditions around the great lakes. the snow was so heavy near green bay, it collapsed the roof of a motel. now let's get a closer look at your monday morning forecast. good morning. stormy conditions along the east coast with this low pressure system that has a history of producing tornadoes and severe thunderstorms. heavy rain in new york up towards boston with ice throughout vermont, new hampshire and maine. for the northwest snow in the upper elevations. heavy showers throughout the northwest and just unsettled in general, and they need more rain in the southwest part of the country because now we have a high fire danger with gusts up to 35 to 55-mile-per-hour winds and rapid-fire growth. i'm accuweather meteorologist paul williams. well, still ahead right here, the growing push to boycott starbucks.

allegiant airlines is denying a new report about safety issues with its planes. "60 minutes" reported overnight that allegiant air is 3 1/2 times more likely to suffer a breakdown in midair than any other airline and says it suffered more than 100 serious mechanical incidents in a two-year period, but the airline says those cases were cherry picked by a disgruntled employee and by people involved in a related lawsuit. the airline strongly denied the suggestion that mechanics may have encouraged pilots not to report safety issues calling the

allegation offensive. the u.s. and russia are facing off after the american-led attack on syria. u.n. ambassador nikki haley says new sanctions against russia being announced today will target russian companies that have worked with syria's chemical weapons program. the syrian regime appears to be brushing off saturday's attack. president bashar al assad was described to be in, quote, absolutely positive spirits, but satellite photos show the damage done to one syrian chemical facility. a new photo shows only rubble where several buildings once stood. well, back in this country, statewide protests over teacher pay now spreading to colorado today. hundreds of educators are taking part in a so-called day of action at the capitol demanding more education funds. colorado has the fifth lowest average teacher salary in this country. and the governor of kentucky is apologizing for saying a teacher strike in his state left children vulnerable to drugs and sexual assault because they weren't in school. governor matt bevin says that he

didn't mean to hurt anyone by saying the walkout put kids in harm's way. kentucky house lawmakers have condemned bevin's remarks. teachers rallied friday to oppose a new pension plan and a call for more funding. a 6,000-acre wildfire near sydney, australia, may have been set on purpose. that's according to investigators who say it's a miracle nobody was injured. firefighters expect to get some help today as the winds finally die down. they did have a special moment, though, on sunday when they saved a little koala. picked the little guy up and wrapped it in a jacket after cleaning it off and giving it some water. >> cutest thing there. when we come back, 200 million eggs recalled. the brands you should look out for. but first starbucks is facing a growing backlash of the arrest of two black men inside a store in philadelphia. what the company's ceo is saying now. and nowhere to hide. how police are secretly cracking down on people who text and drive. drive. igher

[ chanting ] protesters are expected to gather at this philadelphia starbucks this morning as outrage grows from a video showing two black men escorted out by police in handcuffs.

an attorney for the two men say they were simply waiting for someone who was meeting with them at that starbucks. but police say they received a 911 call reporting a trespassing and a disturbance after the men who had not purchased anything asked to use the bathroom and refused to leave. starbucks regional vice president defended the coffee shop's restroom policy saying it's a result of past incidents at the store. >> the noncustomers we've asked to not use our rest rooms and that is for all customers. >> reporter: alyssa depino posted the video which now has millions of views. >> there's nothing more to this story than what you see in the video and when people ask and say there must be more to the story, that's part of the problem in my view. >> reporter: philadelphia's police commissioner says his officers did everything by the book. >> these officers did absolutely nothing wrong. they followed policy. they did what they were supposed to do. >> reporter: but anger is

boiling over on social media with the #boycottstarbucks. comedian kevin hart, a philadelphia native, is blaming the local branch saying this is not a boycott starbucks situation. this is horrible management. the manager on duty was wrong. it's that simple. starbucks is now apologizing saying the video is not representative of our starbucks mission and values. the basis for the call to police was wrong. you can and should expect more from us. and no charges were filed and those two men have been released but starbucks' ceo will meet with the city and community leaders and he'll also be on "good morning america" later this morning for an exclusive interview. an aide selected by vice president mike pence to be his national security adviser has now withdrawn from consideration following a report that president trump actually tried to block him from getting that job. according to axios, the website, the president was furious after finding out that jon lerner had worked with a conservative group that ran anti-trump ads before the 2016 election.

lerner now plans to continue in his current role as deputy to the u.n. ambassador nikki haley. we're learning more about a massive egg recall this morning. over 200 million eggs are being recalled by rose acre farms because of possible salmonella contamination. about two dozen people have gotten sick so far. the eggs were sold under the brand names colburn farms, country daybreak, crystal farms and food lion among others. the plant number on the carton is p-1065. they were sold in nine states from colorado to new york, and you can find more details on our website. returning now to sports and a stunner in the nba playoffs, lebron james' long winning streak in the opening round now over. he and the cavs dropped game one against the pacers from indiana, 98-80. it's lebron's first loss in the opening round of the playoffs since 2012. and the rangers pitcher bartolo colon is the talk of baseball this morning. the 44-year-old known as big

arrived. firefighters said they did not want to remove the car until they got approval from the building inspector. still waiting for him to take a look at give the all-clear. this happened a couple hours ago, about 2:15 this morning. officials are calling this a hit and run. they don't know who was behind the wheel so they don't know why this happened. there was a passenger, she was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. you can see her in the back of the ambulance. she looks okay. significant damage done to the home here. quite an investigation ahead as they look for this driver and try to figure out why this happened and also try to assess if this house can be saved. live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> amy, thank you. we are tracking developing news this morning. former first lady barbara bush is in failing health and will not anymore seek medical treatment. a bush family spokesperson says the decision not to seek
