7. temperatures are about three to eight degrees warmer than this time yesterday. that puts us in the mid to upper 40s at 7:00. by noon we're still mostly cloudy, but you may need the sunglasses from time to time. 55 to 58 degrees. same thing at 4:00. a lot of cloud cover but it might be thin enough that you need the sunglasses. 55 to about 61. temperatures cooler than average but dry. a spotty shower. a little rain around 7:00. back up into the mid to upper 50s. it looks like the rain is coming in after the 7:00 hour. we'll take an hour by hour look coming up. alexis, any other hot spots out there? >> so far so good, aside from the work in the east bay, we're nice and quiet. here is a live look at the south bay, 101 and 880, i believe we have some construction there on the side. that's the bright light you're seeing. i don't have any incidents reported in the area.

drive times looking great, too. tracy to dublin 31 minutes, dublin to mission boulevard 14, 101 to cupertino, 15 minutes. today the usgs is releasing a study saying the hayward fault is dangerous. >> they're presenting findings and grim predictions. abc news reporter amy hollyfield is live in berkley. amy? >> reporter: good morning, matt. that fault runs right underneath the berkeley campus here at uc berkeley. they built a new football stadium and made it seismically safe. these new predictions are pretty dire. they are saying if there was a big earthquake here, they're predicting at least 800 people killed, another 18,000 hurt. they're saying in a magnitude 7 earthquake on the hayward fault. they also pro dikt fires that will destroy homes. the usgs geologist says this is

a tectonic time bomb waiting to go off. the hayward fault runs through some of the most heavily populated sections of the city. they'll do a presentation here at this new football stadium in berkeley. this is a good reminder for all of us to check our earthquake emergency kits. live in berkeley, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> speaking of that, there are things we can do right now to try to get prepared for an earthquake. we're encouraged to have the emergency kits stocked with things such as battery operated radios, flashlights with extra batteries. a minimum of three days of food and water for everyone in the family and a manual can opener and any first aid supplies. in less than an hour t san francisco fire department will commemorate the 112th

anniversary of the great earthquake. the annual event will be held in downtown san francisco. it was a gathering spot in 1906 after the quake and the huge fires that followed. fires destroyed more than 80% of the city. a procession will be made to the infamous gold fire hydrant, said to have been the only source of water during the aftermath of the quake. stay with abc 7 mornings. we'll bring you this morning's event coming up at 5:00 a.m. a blown jet engine of a southwest airlines plane that took off from laguardia airport shows evidence of metal fatigue. the flight originally bound for dallas was forced to make an emergency landing in philadelphia. the left engine exploded, shattering the window in the 14th-year-old. 43-year-old jennifer reardon was

sitting there and was partially sucked out the window. >> negative pressure sucked her out of the window partially. they managed to get her back inside the plane and we lay her down and started cpr. >> after the emergency landing, the mother of two was taken to a hospital where she died. the ntsb is focusing on the engine to determine why it came apart. the investigation is expected to take 12 to 15 months. >> jennifer reiordan worked for wells fargo. she was married and had two children. her family put out a statement last night saying, quote, she is the bedrock of our family. she and mike wrote a love story unlike any other. her beauty and love is evident through her children. this morning a 20-year san francisco police veteran is hospitalized after being hit by a car. police arrested an 18-year-old woman after a traffic stop at 26th avenue and california

street. officers spotted marissa's mercedes in the richmond district and booked her on suspicion of felony hit-and-run. it happened in the tenderloin near eddy and larkin street yesterday afternoon as the plainclothes officer crossed the street. we're told his injuries are not considered life-threatening. a petaluma mother and her friend are expected to face manslaughter charges. police say they did not call for help when her 16-year-old son overdosed on drugs. the teen later died at the hospital. police say when they arrived both suspects were under the influence of narcotics. 4:36. happening today, san francisco officials will unveil plans for 4:20 pot celebration at golden gate park. city officials plan to announce their plans to ensure that this year's 420 festivities are safe for visitors and residents.

last year the event became a city sanctioned event. a new law passed by the board of supervisors requires scooters to be permitted. abc 7 news was in jackson square park yesterday and saw a scooter up in a tree. the scooter operator lime bike will now tell customers they can't ride on side waungs and have to provide a photo showing the scooter is parked safely. the company will also start providing helmets. never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. we start with temperatures in san francisco that go from about 47 in sunny side, sunset, glenn park, to 48 in the castro and the mission. about 50 right now in the financial district and also in lake merced. gorgeous look from the east bay hills above the sparkling lights and the relatively calm weather. commute planner, i'll go good

for everybody. the rain comes in after the evening commute ends. i know some of you that take mass transit into the evening hours, be careful there. that's when it's going to start raining. look at this, from 8:00 to 8:00, no rain in the east bay valleys. a mixture of clouds and sunshine and temperatures below average. 60 at noon, 63 at 4:00. up in the north bay, pretty much the same thing, from 8:00 this morning when there's a possibility of fog for me to just clouds and sunshine and upper 50s from noon through about 5:00. at 51 degrees at 8:00. so here is a look at tonight's temperatures. they'll be a lot like this morning, about two or three degrees cooler with upper 30s developing in the midland valleys. clouds lingering in the south bay. the rain chances you'll notice are down just a little bit from yesterday, about 50% coverage today and tomorrow. the rain is going to come in a little later, too. i'll have that coming up next. that's great for the morning

commute. it's dry out there. >> yeah. it's dry and very quiet so far this morning. we don't have any incidents to worry about, just overnight road work. this is our main concern yesterday, too. nothing here on walnut creek, southbound 680 cruising fine ahead of highway 24. flipping over to our traffic maps, we have a line of red on northbound 880 once again. this is due to the bridge work between 29th an 23rd. all traffic was being diverted to 23rd. i believe that's still the case. we likely will have some lanes closed until a little after 5:00 this morning, possibly as late at 6:00. check that out, down to just two miles an hour. that's adding at least 20, 30 minutes to your drive. do not take northbound 880. your best bet is to use international. if you're not in a big rig, you can use 580 as well. we 50e8 look at live drive times coming up next. san francisco supervisors try to end the controversy over renaming columbus day. the holiday they're creating to honor italian americans.

let's start off by taking a look at what's going on around the state today.

you can see the gray, the clouds overtaking about the fourth earn three-quarters of the state. sunshine in so cal. mid to upper 60s for sacramento and fresno. notice the rain during the daylight. doesn't make it to any of the neighborhoods save of a stray shower around tahoe. tomorrow around 11:00 is when we start getting accumulating snow around kirkwood. that's about it. not a very potent system. let's take a look at my accuweather forecast. a couple inches of snow tomorrow. then we go from 44 to 60 degrees thursday to friday. mid 60s saturday through tuesday, looking more like spring. some breaking news coming in right now from florida where a school bus just overturned, at least six kids are hurt. the bus crashed with a semi truck. it's in a town called brooksville.

that's just north of tampa. the injured children were transported to local hospitals and there are reports that at least two dozen high school students were on board at the time of the crash. that is according to our abc station in tampa. no word yet on a cause. i'll continue watching for any additional details throughout our newscast. i'll let you know if we get any significant updates. back to you. the san francisco board of supervisors is making it official. the second monday in october will be italian american heritage day as well as indigenous peoples day. yesterday board members voted in favor of the shared holiday. italian americans have been pushing for their own day since the city replaced columbus day with indigenous peoples da the home in novato had been on the market for $5,000 a month. after the fires, the california attorney general's office says the owner raised the price to

slide a little farther to the south and maybe a little more offshore. that's what the models picked up on during the overnight hours. that means rain is less likely for some of us. here we are at 9:00, a nice canopy of cloud cover. notice it gets a little thin from time to time. that's why i said grab the sunglasses. during the evening commute, slouds and sunshine. by 9:00 is when we start to get some rain. it's really the coast, the peninsula, the east bay hills and the diablo range that have a chance of wet weather. then by tomorrow morning, it's all gone. i'll show you rain totals in less than seven minutes. tomorrow temperatures jump two to four degrees. the biggest jump will be friday when we go two to ten degree and we see some of the 80s inland for saturday and sunday. quite a change from the last couple weekends. here is alexis. >> looking good, mike. so far traffic is looking good

this morning, too. a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza. a little stackup in the cash lanes as usual. they will open more of those soon. but if you're using fasttrack or car pooling this morning, you'll have no trouble getting through there oochs. i'll prove it with drive times here. southbound 101 golden gate bridge, six minutes. eight minutes westbound on the bay bridge. we have reports of construction cones around the high-rise. no lanes blocked, san mateo bridge is in the green at 12 minutes. google is responding after a recent study found some of its apps are illegally tracking children's behavior. >> here is tech bites. >> in today's tech bites, apps ill lelly tracking kids. >> a new study says 57% of the most popular android apps may be tracking kids' data without their parents' permission. that would violate a federal law. google says it's ready to take
