no radar returns. a lot of gray out there. that means cloudy and milder this morning. as we look from the roof camera, here is my 12-hour day planner. temperatures in the mid to upper 40s this morning, 55 to 58 with a little sunshine at noon. 55 to about 60 at 4:00. 7:00, mid to upper 50s. here is alexis. >> not too much going on in the traffic center this morning, mike. here is a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza. we can always count on tha metering lights on for about half an hour. nothing out of the ordinary. southbound 880 traveling from san lorenzo and down to the san mateo bridge, down to about 25 and 19 miles an hour. we'll take a look at drive times coming up next. >> we begin at 6:00 a.m., still following breaking news from san

jose. i want to get you an update here here. you can see a little smoke there. looks like they're getting a handle on this fire compared to what we saw only ten or 15 minutes ago. this is near the intersection of croply and piedmont. we know five people have been displaced because of the fire. crews are still working from the ground as well as the ladder truck. there are several fire units that have responded to this fire. a lot of people outside their homes looking at what firefighters are starting to do, getting a handle on this fire. a startling morning for a lot of folks in the neighborhood, not only the folks in the home. as we zoom out you see what a large respond it is, kind of on that round-about part of the street there. a lot of activity going on in san jose. i'll continue to monitor this.

five people displaced. as soon as we get more information, i'll pass it along. >> thank you, jessica. happening now, san francisco is marking the anniversary of one of its darkest days. 112 years ago a massive earthquake devastated the city. >> abc 7 reporter elissa harrington has more. >> reporter: i'm at the golden fire hydrant which as you can see is surrounded by police officers, firefighters, members of the public, some of them in period ot tire and there's the number 112 on the fire hydrant. that's because this is the 112th anniversary of the great earthquake and fire of 1906. legend has it that this fire hydrant was said to be the only source of water in the city to help fight the fires. this crew gathered at 5:12 this morning, the exact time the

quake shoot the city. [ sire wrens ]. >> this is to honor the thousands killed and the survivors. this year they took a moment to honor late mayor ed lee, laying a wreath on the fountain in his honor. >> there's no way for this city to thank ed lee except every time we pause just at the time the bell starts to ring, we must remember the water was flowing because of ed lee. >> reporter: a lot of people who come to this annual event, they like to dress up and wear period attire. they also took a moment of silence to honor all those victims. back at the golden hydrant, you can see people are taking turns spraying it gold. some are making speeches. we have seen a few people who say some of their grandparents,

aunts or uncles were actually alive during that earthquake of 1906. reporting live in san francisco, elissa harrington, abc 7 news. >> 6:04 now. there are new developments in the san francisco hunter point shipyard cleanup. last week we told you the epa found tetra tech falsified nearly all of its soil tests on land slated for housing. developers were planning on building more than 12,000 housing units at the shipyard. plans are on hold until next year. this is new video into the abc 7 newsroom showing the scene in nashville international airport. are we sure that's the right video there? that looks like the video yesterday from philadelphia. obviously the wrong video there. that is not what's happening right now in tennessee. why don't we get the right video so we don't cause any confusion.

let's talk about the one that happened yesterday. the southwest incident comes one day after an engine on that southwest flight broke apart 32,000 feet in the air. safety officials say the engine showed metal fatigue. that is from yesterday's story. now back to the one in nashville, if this isn't confusing enough, we'll try to make this make sense. in nashville, tennessee, a bird strike forced a southwest airlines jet to make an emergency landing, flight 577 on its way from nashville to phoenix. that plane returned safely to the airport. that aircraft is out of service and no injuries are reported. now we'll talk about the incident that took place yesterday. you've seen that video at the philadelphia airport where that southwest flight saw that engine explode in the air according to passengers there. safety officials say that engine shows metal fatigue. one woman died and passengers on other southwest flights here in the bay area are reacting to the

news of that in-flight emergency. abc 7 news was at oakland international airport where southwest airlines is the largest carrier. some passengers said they felt a bit conflicted about flying. >> a little uneasy. i think everybody would be hearing this situation. you get on the flight and you hope that the airlines is taking care of what they need to take care of. >> southwest has 500 737-700s in its fleet. >> passengers on the flight are calling the pilot a true american hero. she kept her cool during the landing while talking with the tower. she has an incredible background. the "kansas city star" reports she's one of the first female fighter pilots in the u.s. navy, the first to fly an f 18 hornet. she faced resistance because of her gender but went on to train in the military before becoming

a pilot for southwest. first lady barbara bush died by her family yesterday. she'll lie in repose at the george lewis funeral home in houston. the private service will happen saturday in texas. 28 years ago while she was first lady, bush gave the commencement speech at wellesley college. >> at the end of your life you will never regret not having passed one more test, winning one more verdict or not closing one more deal. you will regret time not spent with a husband, a child, a friend or a parent. >> good advice. you can express your condolences by sharing this badge we created on our facebook page. barbara bush was 92 years old. your commute from the east bay to marin is about to get a little faster. third lane eastbound on the richmond-san rafael bridge is set to open friday. according to our news partner, the lane will open at 2:00 p.m. in time for the afternoon commute. officials say it will greatly improve traffic flow. a new proposal can make it easier for pg&e to raise your

let's jump in with those temperatures. mid to upper 40s for most of the peninsula. we have a warmer spot, san bruno about 51 degrees. look at these 49s, concord, san francisco, oakland, fremont, san jose. here is an area that's more likely to get rain than the rest of us tonight. that's santa cruz where it's just overcast right now. if you're going to be on the bay today, it's going to be quiet again. exercising dry during the day. a light jacket if you're going to be out and about. especially in san francisco, only mid 50s as we head through the afternoon hours. as we look at the south bay, 50 this morning to near 60 at noon to low 60s this afternoon. grab the sunglasses. you'll need them more than

anybody. taking a live look at side at the north bay, the dry pavement this morning. looks like our camera just froze up. traffic moving along fine along southbound 101. no major issues to report. all clear basically for almost two hours. 11 minutes across the bay bridge once you make it past the metering lights. westbound 92, san mateo bridge, you're in the green at 17 minutes. new details. google is responding to a new report that says thousands of android apps for children might be tracking them illegally. first told you about this yesterday. researchers at the international computer science institute in berkeley analyzed 5800 android children's apps. they found 57% of those apps were tracking kids without their parents' consent. a violation of federal law. google says it takes the privacy of users very seriously and will take action to remove apps that violate safety policies. a grandma on the run.

investigators say video of lois reese after the second killing. the video shows the suspect with the car she's accused of stealing from one of the alleged victims. she's accused of shooting her husband last month in minnesota before taking off to ft. myers, florida. >> our main fear is once she diminishes all her resources, that she will be desperate and will commit another act of violence. >> "good morning america" will have more of this grandma on the run coming up at 7:00 a.m. state legislation that might project pg&e and other major utilities from an array of liabilities just gained initial approval. senate bill 1088 comes months after the devastating north bay fires. according to the mercury news, the bill would require utility companies to file updates with the state including plans to mitigate risk of wildfires.

critics argue it paves a p pavev for higher utility bills. santa rosa high school students are on the verge of a dream come true, playing at carnegie hall. some of these students lost their homes during the north bay wildfires, but they still have their voices. the concert choir applied and earned an invitation last year. then when the fires hit, the group didn't have the $100,000 they needed to attend. that's when a billionaire philanthropist stepped in with a challenge. last month he offered $15,000 and promised to match the amount students managed to raise. >> when people see other people are willing to support them, they work harder, get motivated and do much better. >> the students met the challenge. now their flights and hotel are all booked. they will perform in new york city on april 29th.

mike. so far our quiet morning continues here on the roads. if you want to head to the central valley where we've got heavy traffic on been 205 and 580, seven miles an hour and 22 miles an hour respectively. we have a crash on surface streets, too. if you're thinking of taking grant line road as an alternate to 205 or 580, we have a four-car crash. ambulance on the way so we possibly have injuries there. i'm seeing red in the area. maybe avoid that for now. you'll probably move a bit faster on 205. the south bay has been quiet. we've remained mostly incident-free today. 280 and 17, volumes moving fine. no issues in santa rosa, pet lumina, castro valley to the maze. northbound 280, 680, slight delay there. sweden is taking electric vehicles to the next level.

they just completed an electrified road that can charge your car as you're driving. the project is part of the swedish government's plans to eliminate fossil fuels from transportation by 2030. san diego county is backing a lawsuit against california sanctuary law. san diego now joins orange county and nine cities that have passed anti sanctuary resolutions. the sanctuary law limits state and local authorities cooperation with federal immigration officials. the san diego county sheriff says since january the law led to the release of nearly 300 criminal suspects who would have been turned over to immigration authorities. natasha, let me show you the president's tweet this morning. he wrote about that saying there is a revolution going on in california. so many sanctuary areas want out of this ridiculous crime infested and breeding concept. speaking about california's governor, jerry brown, trying to back out of the national guard at the border, be u the people of the state are not happy.

here is a look at what is possible. one on the storm impact scale for mainly light showers, a slight chance of lightning and thunder. snow level down to 3,500 feet. mainly gray out there. so dry at 8,000 feet that any radar you see, whether looking here or on our app is not going to make it to the ground until well after the sun sets. you can see my 12-hour planner, pretty dry. mainly cloudy with peeks of sunshine and temperatures in the mid to upper 40s at 7:00. 55 to 58 at noon. still in the 50s at the coast. the rest of us hover around 60 at 4:00. mid 50s at 7:00. how traffic this morning, alexis? >> so far a pretty light commute. here is a live look outside at the bay bridge toll plaza. not exactly light here. those metering lights on for just about an hour here. we had a hit-and-run crash reported in the toll plaza, it was so minor, the person that was hit kept driving to work. that's not aing bloing issue

this morning. drive times looking good. westbound 80 highway 4 to the maze, 27 minutes. 13 once you make it past the metering lights into san francisco. san francisco to sfo, in the green at ten minutes. back to the central valley coming up next. i am still following breaking news in san jose. a fire at a home and at least five people displaced this morning. right now sky 7 is live over that house fire. it is seemingly out. there's a little bit of smoke still coming from the home. this is at half pence way at berryessa creek park. the fire reported just after 4:30 this morning. tracking it at the live desk for quite some time. a vast improvement as i just mentioned. we saw a lot of smoke earlier, about 40 minutes ago where we were still seeing flames coming from this area. now that's gone. you can see a lot of extensive damage to the roof and to this home. we're still working on finding

out more information. we're unclear how this fire began or if anyone was hurt. we'll have updates when they're available on our news app and on our website. >> we often hear about the san andreas fault, today the usgs releasing a new study that says the hayward fault is much more dangerous. >> today they're presenting findings and grim predictions. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield live in berkeley. >> reporter: good morning, natasha. that fault runs right underneath this berkeley campus. they built a brand new football stadium here to prepare for the next big quake. it is supposed to shift and move with it when things start shaking. the predictions in this new report are pretty dire. the usgs playing out if there was a 7 magnitude quake on the hayward fault. geologists are predicting that at least 800 people could be killed and another 18,000 hurt. they also predict there would be fires that would destroy thousands of homes.

and former first lady will take place this saturday in texas. >> here is a picture from the white house where flags are flying at half staff. a family spokeswoman said the 92-year-old was in failing health and decided additional medical treatment. abc's cokie roberts shared her thoughts this morning on gma. >> she understood that as first lady she had a pulpit and she used it and continues to use it even after her passing. >> former president h.w. bush said to be broken hearted after losing his wife of 73 years. in a statement his chief of staff revealing, quote, he held her hand all day and was at her side when she left this good earth. we spoke with one of barbara bush's close friends, san francisco chief of protocol charlotte schultz. >> she said the first lady always felt welcome in the bay area. >> she did fit in. people weren't afraid of her.

she put children into her lap, hold their hands, clap with them, just engaged and people felt very comfortable with her. >> schultz says mrs. bush had a sharp wit and wonderful sense of humor. they'd have girl chat on the phone talking about clothes and, of course pearls. >> she came to the bay area four times, campaigned here in 1988. two years later she was back stumping for former governor pete rosen. in 1991 she visited with children at lucile packard children's hospital. in 1992 mrs. bush was back in san francisco where she made a then controversial statement that family values are shared by gay and straight people alike. >> the ntsb says the blown jet engine of a southwest airlines plane that took off from new york's laguardia airport shows evidence of metal fatigue. the flight originally bound for dallas was forced to make an emergency landing in philadelphia. it's believed the plane's left engine exploded.

43-year-old jennifer riordan was partially sucked out of the plane. one passenger talked to "good morning america." marty martinez says he reached for his laptop to communicate with his loved ones on facebook live. >> i didn't know how many minutes i had left. i didn't know whether it would work. it's frantically looking for my credit card and trying to punch in the number so i could speak to the outside world. then i came to the moment where i had wi-fi, and then to be put in that position where i had to figure out what loved once i was going to reach out to. >> the ntsb is focusing on the engine to determine why it came apart. the investigation is expected to take 12 to 15 months. more on the woman who died. jennifer riordan worked for wells fargo in albuquerque, new mexico, as vice president of communications. she was married with two children. her family put out a statement saying she is a bed rom of our

family. she and mike wrote her love story unlike any other. her beauty and love is evident through her children. san francisco police are looking for a man suspected of animal abuse. police released video from a store on turk street on saturday. it shows a man and woman having an argument. he grabs the woman's 4-month-old cocker spaniel, slamming it to the floor. the dog did die. the suspect is identified as delos pierre gallon. he's wanted on felony animal cruelty and other charges. you're never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. check it out. the warm weather we talked about, how about milder. four to ten degrees milder this morning an yesterday morning. in the south bay, upper 40s in a lot of neighborhoods. one 50 out there at mon tan view, and 42 in los gatos. you can see mid to upper 40s for most of the peninsula. pretty much the same thing

inland. 44 in lafayette, danville and livermore, 45. same thing at napa, novato and bodega bay. here is a look at sfo. the clouds are too high in the sky to cause any delays. not seeing any wriright now. roads remain dry during both commutes. same thing for the ferry. if you're a mass transit rider during the evening hours, maybe work second shift or something, definitely be prepared for that. here we are for the kids, not as chilly this morning. 11:00 mid to upper 50s. 3:00, mid 50s to 60. a little sunshine here and there. definitely not wet during the school day. up near 50 for the better part of the afternoon hours with the clouds dancing with the sunshine. same thing in the peninsula. 51 this morning to 57 at noon to near 60 at 4:00, back to 54 at 8:00. tonight's temperatures in the north bay back in the 30s.

you clear out first while the clouds linger elsewhere, keeping us in the low to upper 40s. some good news that the commute will be dry. how about today's dry commute? >> so far it's been fairly quiet. we have a few issues that have popped up. few and far between here this morning. we are certainly not complaining. we, of course, have heavier traffic for about eight miles there getting out of tracy. that is the norm unfortunately, if that's your route you already know this. we have a slight delay for ace 1 this morning, but 3, 5 and 7 should all be on time. keeping an eye on that, but that's an alternate for you. if you're planning on taking grant line road for an alternate to 205, we have a four-car crash around midway. possibly injuries with that one as well. sounds like it's all pushed off to the side. definitely not all clear through that area. a quick check of the westbound side of the richmond-san rafael bridge, this is 580 heading

towards the toll plaza. i have a disabled vehicle reported around the midspan on the eastbound side. we'll take a closer look at that coming up next. happening today, a petaluma mother and her friend are expected to face manslaughter charges in court. police say the two didn't call for help when the woman's 16-year-old son overdosed on drugs. the teen later died at the hospital. police say when they arrived both suspects were under the influence of drugs. happening today, san francisco will unveil plans for friday's annual 4/20 pot celebration. city officials plan to announce their plans to ensure this year's festivities are safe for visitors and residents. fencing will be going up and security will be checking ids to make sure people are over the age of 18. last year the event became a city sanctioned event. >> there's still challenges with congestion. so we are going to make sure that we notify drivers much

we have to wait until tomorrow morning to see any snowfall accumulate in the sierra. here is a look at what's going on. plenty of snow to ski in many of the resorts. this won't add much. in fact, more will melt as the 60s return by friday. >> now a live desk update from abc 7 mornings. historic wildfires are raging in the western half of oklahoma. firefighters confirmed only moments ago these fires actually grew overnight. i want to show you these images into our live desk this morning. these wildfires have been deadly. the fires have killed at least two people and injured nine others since they began. there are evacuation orders for several towns. firefighters battling this on the ground but also in the air. they're being very cautious because of the casualties. 52 of the state's 77 counties are under a state of emergency right now. back to you. >> wow. all right, thank you, jessica. happening now, san francisco is marking the anniversary of the 1906 earthquake. the massive quake devastated the
