quite breezy. 66 to 68 to 4:00, near 60 by 7:00. quiet here. how about the roads, alexis? >> overall, a fairly quiet start to the commute. we are not complaining. we're looking live at the bay bridge toll plaza. the metering lights have been on for nearly 40 minutes, but that is about it. those typical backups into the maze. southbound 101 looking good. in the green at just about 15 minutes. westbound 580 castro valley to the maze, also in the green at 13. northbound 101, i'm really impressed by how quickly this drive time has improved between 280, 680 and highway 85. had a crash north of alum rock involving a motorcycle. they cleared that quickly. all lanes are back open. back in the green. that's coming in at 15 minutes. developing news, new inspections have been ordered for airplane engines like the one that blew apart on a southwest plane tuesday. abc 7 reporter amy

hollyfield joins us live with what's being done. >> reporter: good morning, natasha. unclear how many planes this will impact. the faa says about 220 need to be inspected. the airlines say it's going to be a lot more than that. they're responding to the plane on tuesday that had the engine failure. this was southwest airlines flight, that engine failure, the fan blade that failed sent shrapnel flying scattering a window and killing one passenger. investigators san jose that's because a fan blade snapped off. that's what they want the airlines to inspect. taking a look at those blades isn't easy. it's going to require ultra sonic inspection. >> the pilots walk around and they're looking for big damage, did we hit a bird on the last flight, do we see chips on the flight. these problems are occurring and they're invisible to the naked eye. it requires a special inspection in the maintenance facilities. >> reporter: southwest airlines says it is now inspecting

similar engines that it has in service and they expect that to take about a month. this is the second time that kind of engine has failed on a southwest jet in the last two years. the faa order is expected to be issued in about two weeks. it's expected to require that inspections of these fan blades be done in the last six months. live in sfo, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. pg&e says it's working with the oakland fire department to determine the cause of a gas leak and a possible fire. one person was hurt during the incident. we're waiting for an update on their condition. it happened on shaddock avenue near 60th street near 6:30 last night. investigators say there was a third party contractor working on the house when something went wrong. mountain view police are looking for this missing girl. her name is diana florez leva. police say the last seen yesterday.

abc7news.com. silicon valley tech companies are facing another data collection scandal. a washington state data firm exposed the personal information of 48 million people. local blocks takes data that from facebook, zillow and linkedin to collect data to sell to businesses. the firm left that data on a public online storage space available for anyone to see. >> one of the techniques that was apparently used in gathering this data, just one of the techniques, involved a function on facebook that facebook last week disabled because they finally -- i believe they finally believed people were taking advantage of it. >> victory says you can find up to 100 data breaches a day and calls it an epidemic. rich mopped police issued a $1 million arrest warrant for this man, 40-year-old vernon lamont dowell, wanted in connection to the murder of mark

johnson, junior. witnesses say johnson was shot and killed following an argument with another man on south 15th street and main avenue last thursday. it was richmond's third homicide of the week. police say dowell is extremely dangerous. if anyone spots him, they're asked to call 911 right away. happening to i darks minnesota prosecutors will announce if anyone will face charges in the death of prince. >> the pop icon was found alone and unresponsive in his elevator two years ago. an autopsy found he died from an accidental overdose of fentanyl. they found several containers of pills around the pop star's home, inud clooing some containing fentanyl. construction begins on the northbound i 680 sunol express lane. the first phase spans nine miles between 84 and 262. the northbound express lane will eventually stretch 14 miles between 84 and 237. transportation officials say the adjacent southbound express lanes will also be upgraded.

for most of the afternoon hours. an update on that accuweather forecast next. i'm going to take a live look at walnut creek on our traffic cameras. southbound 680 seeing brake lights filling in approaching highway 24. nothing major in the area, but details from chp we have debris in the roadway. a bumper and someone lost a ladder. unfortunately at least one driver got a flat tire from that debris. they made it off to the shoulder and chp en route to get that cleaned up. be on the lookout if you're heading that way. we'll look at drive times at 6:20. happening today in the south bay, the vta will have five newly purchased battery powered electric buses on display at a news conference, expected to be in service within a month. new 40-foot flier trolley buses are in service to replace the older fleet. this is video posted by muni on youtube. the first went into service on the 3 jackson line. the bus haves the ability to

travel off wire for greater distances. tammie jo shults is trained for this kind of emergency. >> part of the aircraft, they said there is a hole and someone went out. >> i'm sorry. there was a hole and somebody went out? >> can you imagine? she landed the plane even as it was at a 45-degree angle and went back into the cabin afterwards to comfort the frightened passengers. her ability to remain calm under pressure was first tested in the navy. she was one of the first women to fly navy fighter jets and became lieutenant commander at a time that female pilots were extremely rare. >> teaching bible classes and coaching volleyball and hosting tea parties.

questions about his case. he wants the fine reduced because most calls went unanswered and resulted in a quick hangup. he says he is not the kingpin of robo calling. a company celebrating the completion of a 60 acre solar farm in richmond. the farm built for not for profit mce should produce 22,000 mega watt hours of pollution-free electricity. that means that the farm can power nearly 4,000 homes a year. we can wrap our minds around that. the team had a celebration yesterday. the project started producing electricity back in december. officials wanted to wait for better weather to hold the event. we turn to you for that, mike. they appreciate the good weather. >> i love having solar panels on a day like today, absolutely. gorgeous sunshine. this weekend we'll maybe have a few more high clouds. that's when the 80s roll into

still cleaning up debris westbound 24 and 280. westbound 80 highway 4 to the maze, 20 minutes. 11 across the bay bridge. southbound 101, san francisco to sfo, looking good at nine minutes. five people managed to escape this burning fishing boat on humboldt bay. a good samaritan rescued all five after they abandoned ship yesterday. the coast guard is monitoring the area for pollution. police in fairfax say discarded burrito wrapper helped lead them to a man suspected of stealing a $30,000 gun. >> 46-year-old michael kitly broke into two vehicles and stole a set of golf clubs and a custom long gun. police checked surveillance video at a nearby 7 eleven and saw a man buying a burrito right

we'll blow through average with those 80s coming this weekend. elon musk's boring tunnel in los angeles may be built sooner than previously thought. the city's public works committee approved an environmental review exemption last night. if the full city council approves, it may fast track construction by months or even years. this video shows the plan to build an underground tunnel for high-speed transit. some people fear the city is rushing through the exemption process for new technology. some chevy owners can soon pull up to the pump and pay for gas without getting out of their car. the new feature uses a tool that acts like a dashboard shopping console. the vehicles will be equipped with marketplace technology. you will still have to get out to actually pump your gas after you pay, but the main good thing about this, chevy says, is it will prevent customers from getting ripped off by credit

card skimmers. shake shack has settled on a san francisco site. >> the chronicle reports the owners at the building on the corner of fillmore and fill bert have filed an application to break up the 12,000 square foot property. the property has been vacant since 2016 when the food market closed after the 19 years. shake shack plans to open its first bay area restaurants in the fall. you'll notice less scooters on bay area sidewalks this morning. the drastic change and what it means for the fut tour of rental services. new video of another plane that had to make an emergency landing because of an engine issue. it took five minutes from you could save energy by living off the grid. completely. or... just set the washing machine to cold. do your thing. with energy upgrade california.

back out on the streets looking for scooters blocking the sidewalk. >> the department of public works confiscated dozens of them just yesterday. our abc 7 news colleague jessica castro live in mission bay. good morning, jessica. >> reporter: natasha and matt, good morning. the crackdown is definitely in full swing. this morning we looked for some of those dockless scooters you can find using apps on your phone. it was hard to find any overnight. they're usually charging overnight or they have been scooped up by the city. the city is really cracking down on folks leaving those scooters on the sidewalks illegally. many people have been complaining about them. a department spokesperson yesterday said it was a flagrant disregard for the rules to even have those things parked on the sidewalk. san francisco department of public works confiscated 61 scooters off the streets yesterday, 66 last week. people are complaining. we even saw some stuck in a tree

in jackson square. the board of supervisors then voted to require the scooter share programs to seek permits for their vehicles. earlier this week lime bike issued a statement saying that they plan to comply and implement new initiatives. also said in part, quote, we recognize we can't fix every concern overnight, but as a bay area company we want to be lasting partners with the city and county of san francisco. so that change, it may not come overnight, but the city certainly wants the change to happen quickly. reporting live in san francisco, jessica castro, abc 7 news. new at 6:00, video from inside a delta flight after an emergency landing. it was forced to turn around and land in atlanta after the engine started smoking. crews quickly put it out. this happened yesterday. the plane was heading to london heathrow. the airbus jet was towed back to the concourse where passengers were let off. no one was hurt and the passengers were put on other flights. this happened one day after the southwest engine blast.

we'll have more on the reaction from the faa. the wife of san antonio head coach gregg popovich passed away. erin popovich was 67 and had been battling an illness for some time. the couple had been married for four decades, had four children and two grandchildren. >> it's about the brotherhood we built as nba players, everybody in the nba family. feel so bad for the popovich family. that's tough to hear about. >> it's not known where gregg popovich will be with the team tonight. he did run the team's practice yesterday. last night steph curry tweeted, i can't imagine what coach popovich is going through. but i am lifting up prayers for you and your family. >> we'll have continuing coverage of the warriors and spurs playoff series. mike shumann will bring us reports in later editions of abc

7 news. b.a.r.t. police looking for a man captured on cell phone video committing lewd acts on a pittsburg bay point bound train. a rider tells us he propositioned her and touched himself last friday. the victim called b.a.r.t. police but officers couldn't find him. last seen leaving the train at the daly city b.a.r.t. station. a filipino peace activist denied entry to the u.s. should be back on a plane to the philippines. jerome aba was not let through customs on tuesday. a source with bus toms and border control say it's not about politics, it was about how his visa was obtained. >> his flight arrived. he didn't come out. two hours later he didn't come out. four hours later we were asking where is he. >> they kept telling him he had no business on u.s. soil which is very confusing because he was

granted a u.s. visa. >> aba was scheduled to tour the u.s. and speak about a humanitarian crisis growing in the philippines. an oakland chef accused of sexual harassment will sell three restaurants. more than 30 former employees accused him of sexual harassment starting late last night. he acknowledged his behavior was inappropriate and was taking a leave of absence. the new owner previously managed one of his other rest raunts. she will take over in two months and plans to keep the restaurant's nation. new developments in the ghost ship fire lawsuit. abc 7 news reports lawyers were going through debris, looking at the cause and origin. the fire in december 2016 killed 36 people. the two men charged in the fire are due back in court tomorrow for a hearing to reduce their bail. coming up tonight, dan will have an exclusive interview

during the evening hours. a quick look at the weekend forecast. we've got 80s on the way for saturday and sunday. we'll talk more about that coming up in the accuweather forecast. a couple days ago it looked like this morning was going to be a real bear, that it was going to rain a lot. things change. that's why you should watch us or use our app. hopefully things are better on the roads because of that. >> no major issues so far this morning. keeping an eye on what could potentially turn into a big deal. if you're going to try to get out of the central valley, westbound 580 before north flynn roads. a couple reports about very large potholes. route, this certainly is not the first time that has happened. they often have to do emergency pothole repair through this area. we're hearing there's two of them. about six inches deep in the right lane. not great. they know about it at chp. i'm not sure how much they'll be able to do about it at rush hour, i'll keep an eye on that. 11 miles an hour on 205.

you're right around an hour with bound 580 tracy into dublin. heavier traffic approaching 24. they are, woulding on removing some debris on westbound 24 just past '680. that's likely the cause for that slowdown. we'll check on drive times coming up next. some relief for drivers in san jose. the city is getting part of the state's gas tax funding to fix potholes. >> $87.5 million allocated for repairs over the next two years. transportation officials plan to seal or resurface dozens of roads. >> we know there are many ways in which this costs motorists. it's much better for the city to be paying for it with taxpayer dollars than for each of our motorists to be paying for it out of their wallets. >> repairs are already under way. this week crews finishing bayshore highway near 101. next week they move to rogers road in north san jose. city council has approved a list of streets to repair next year.

two weeks after the mass shooting at youtube headquarters, san bruno police are investigating another threat. police found an instagram page called youtube shooters. these are posted in the bio, sorry, we had to do it. join the movement. more to come on april 18. police traced the page to a juvenile suspect in pennsylvania and they're deciding whether or not to press charges. former playboy model karen mcdougal has been freed from a contract that prevented her from talking about an alleged affair with donald trump. it agreed to release mcdougal from a 2016 agreement. she claims she was misled into signing the contract for her story in exchange for $150,000. she claims she and mr. trump had a ten-month affair that started in 2006, shortly after melania gave birth. a major retailer has a trade-in for you on our morning money report. the two african-american men

here is a look at your california forecast. the rain is going to be hitting l.a. and san diego for the better part of today, mid 60s windy in the high desert. 76 in palm springs. upper 60s, low 70s, breezy through the central valley. we have valley rain and mountain snow in the sierra. let's take a look at this seven-day forecast. that should actually be lake tahoe. what you're going to see are temperatures that will jump so much more above average that it just might be time to put the old seven-day forecast to rest for tahoe. no snow is coming after today. developing news, federal regulators are ordering new inspections of airplane engines similar to the one that blew apart on a southwest plane on tuesday. abc 7's amy hollyfield live at sfo with what's being done. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, natasha. the faa wants airlines to inspect their engine fan blades. these engines power about 7,000

737s around the world. this is in response to southwest airlines planes that had the engine that exploded killing a passenger who was partially sucked out of the window. that happened on tuesday. aviation expert steve gan yard explained how intricate these new inspecions will be. >> those blades are connected to a central spindle. where that connection occurs is where these cracks are occurring but they're behind the blade. they're so fine, so thin, you can't really see them. you have to get in with an ultrasound, really the same technology that you look at a baby in utero with. you have to get back there and do this inspection because you can't see it with your eye. >> reporter: this is the second engine to fail like this for southwest airlines in the past two years. aviation officials have debated this directive since then. now in two weeks they will make it an official order. southwest airlines says it has already started accelerating the
