look at our bay and inland temperatures, upper 60s, already average highs at noon and a little above average by 4:00. low to mid 70s. delightful evening for out and about, maybe getting a bite to eat. mid 60s at 7:00. looks great from here. how about you, sue? >> looks great from my vantage point here. fog free on southbound 101. taillights headed past the north gate mall, i should say down toward central san rafael. in the golden gate bridge commute two lanes in the northbound direction, four lanes in the southbound. a little haze over the waldo. that was a couple hours ago when i came through. you're slow and go out of the central valley for about a 35-minute drive. it looks like they may have just picked up that 880 road work southbound. they closed it overnight over bridge construction. 23rd to 29th. we'll check back there, the sensors have just flipped to green. that's good news. breaking news from the abc 7

live desk. that breaking news is that a ten-hour standoff just ended in san jose. police were able to take three suspects into custody a short while ago. i want to show you this video from the scene. you can see how many people were out there. this is brand new into our live desk. it's in the area of sierra road near monakia lane. the suspects went into a home, were barricaded inside for a staggering ten hours. police say everyone wanted in this case is now in custody and there is no further danger to the public. it just ended as i've been saying. we expect more information on this story throughout the day. i'll let you know if we get updates throughout our newscast. happening today, protests planned in the bay area, california and across the nation demanding action be taken to end school shootings. >> this comes on the 19th anniversary of columbine.

elissa harrington live at dome notre dame high school. >> reporter: a rally on the steps of city hall. this protest is to protest gun violence and to call for stricter gun control. you're looking at video of students in menlo park who took part in a similar walkout last month inspired by the parkland students. this one today is to mark the 19th anniversary of the columbine high school shooting that happened in colorado in 19 1989. they will hold a moment of silence and make speeches. today's event is part of a national movement and the students here at notre dame plan to leave their classes at 10:00 a.m. reporting live in san jose, elissa harrington, abc 7 news. a man who spent nearly 25 years on death rojas been set free from san quentin.

he's sentenced to be put to death for sexually assaulting and killing a toddler who was his girlfriend's daughter. kate larsen explains why he was freed. >> reporter: after 25 years on death row, ben vee tez walked into the arms of waiting friends and family outside san quentin. he told reporters in spanish he was very happy. his attorney didn't say much more. >> of course we are elated by the fact he's released today. he was wrongfully convicted over 25 years ago, and we are very grateful that this day finally has come. >> reporter: cook county district lisa green decided not to refile charges against him after medical testimony about the toddler's injuries and whether she was sexually assaulted fell apart. she still thinks ben vee tez is guilty of murder. >> i believe that he did kill kl this child, inflicted blunt force trauma on this child.

wednesday. a record crowd is to descend on goll ten gate park. >> expectations at robin williams me dough will draw even more participants because it comes on a friday and it's the first time recreational pot smoking will be illegal. last year's event drew more than 10,000 festival goers. thousands of people expected to light up for 4/20. city officials say they neither condone or sanction the holiday. the city is working with a private sponsor for fencing, security and park maintenance. san francisco police tweet out there reminder, don't drink and drive, smoke and drive or text and drive. a controversial statue will remain in san francisco's civic center. a city board voted to overturn the decision to move the early

day statue into storage. it shows a native american man at the feet of a cowboy and missionary. last month the historic preservation commission sided with people asking for it to be removed. 5:07. some 25,000 union workers in the university of california system are ready to walk off the job. the union that represents them says 97% of its members have voted to authorize a strike. the union claims it has reached an impasse in contract negotiations after a year of bargaining. union leaders are calling on speakers to boycott upcoming uc events including graduations until the dispute is resolved. >> a federal judge will hold a hearing to decide whether stormy daniels's lawsuit against michael cohen and president trump will be delayed. the adult film star is asking that the agreement be dissolved. daniels argues the agreement is void because he never signed it. attorneys for the president and

the evening commute spills into neighborhood streets and reaches all the way to highway 101 so this third lane is needed. the lane has been three years in the making. it will open at 2:00. it will shut down at 7:00. so just a little window when you can use it. they want to keep it open when they can and clear for emergencies and just have a shoulder when they can. people who are in the lane when they shouldn't be will be subject to getting a ticket. so keep that in mind. you only have from 2:00 to 7:00 every day to use this eastbound lane. live in san rafael, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. right now richmond police investigating a deadly shooting outside a convenience store. police were on scene outside the stop & shop on carlson boulevard. we were able to windows shattered there on site.

they have released very few details at this point. we're checking for updates. this is pretty important because nearly five months without a homicide and now richmond -- police have been investigating four in just the last month new details about the judge in the brock turner case. judge aaron persky is speaking for the first time about the campaign to recall him. persky spoke with the mercury news andports the movement to improve how the criminal justice system treats sexual assault victims. campaign has been moving to remove persky after handing down a six-month sentence to brock turner. the measure to recall persky will be on the june ballot. persky says if the recall is successful, don't cry for me or the judges of sclount, but cry for the judge judge judge judg s

a fine against wells fargo for a variety of problems including forcing customers to buy insurance policies they didn't need. this comes as wells fargo extended the deadline. the bank is paying out $142 million related to the opening of unauthorized accounts at the bank. the deadline to submit a claim is july 7th. a bay area first, a cannabis crawl is set to happen in oakland in honor of 4/20. oaksterdam university is organizing the event. in january, california legalized recreational adult use of marijuana without a medical card. back in 2012, dea agents raided oaksterdam and temporarily shut it down. cannacrawl is a way to celebrate progress. all kinds of businesses around telegraph avenue are getting involved. >> we've decriminalized it in that sense. that gives the people an

you know those early april springs we had? they actually helped hold the drought at bay. they did during the rain season, actually expand. this is the beginning of the rain season and this is what we have this weeb. the drought monitor comes out every thursday. you can see how southern california is not looking very good. let's talk about the beaches. you can see the cloud cover and some of the fog in santa cruz this morning. it's going to be the beaches that are the slowest to warm. san francisco, redwood city and oakland one degree warmer than average. even some areas above average. san jose, santa rosa and livermore, four to six degrees warmer. your destination, the mid 80s this weekend. san francisco flower mart will temporarily will be moving to an industrial area instead of the embarcadero. vendors opposed being housed in piers 19 through 23 while the
